After the opening release from Itchy Bugger, London's Low Company unit comes through with an EP from Special Occasion, a project made up of duo David C. Gray and Guy Gormley, specializing in all sorts of dystopian sonics. This album, The Word, is actually a reissue of a cassette that was put out last year through Jolly Discs, but that somehow was too versatile to leave on tape format. Credits to LC, then! 8 tracks long, this album is not what you may expect at first, and actually spreads out across different styles and aesthetics. Led by a perceptible cold-wave sound, the LP strays off into unchartered territories, from the jazz nuances of "Duet", to the indie pop of "The Hours I Wait", or even subtle house waves of "Visions", making it an unmissable option for anyone who is as artistically diverse as these guys. Given what the label has come up with so far, we're interested to see where the small London shop will head to next.
