Review

Having helped establish Assemble as a label with his Personal Dancefloor EP back in 2012, it seems right for St. Joseph to deliver the Lisbon operation's first full artist album in the shape of Simple Things, which represents the Cologne-based producer's own debut long player. This eight track set follows swiftly after David Joseph's excellent Everything Is Okay 12" for the Lize label and we are happy to report it's every bit as good as that record, offering a more conclusive display of his talent for mixing dusty samples with pristine programming. Opening track "The Good Shit" sets the tone, offering some up and down the scale melodic touches and is reminiscent of classic Isolee or Recloose, whilst Joseph's clear love for Detroit's house masters is evident on cuts like "MFB1". After a few listens it's been decided the all too appropriately named "Raw Jam" is our favourite cut here, but house heads will find plenty to get to grips with throughout.
