Blumoog Music likes to do things a little differently when it comes to house and techno. By that, we mean that the new label doesn't care much for passing trends or the next biggest hype and, rather than follow the masses, they've started their journey by recruiting one of techno's most underrated stars. Steve Stoll has been on the scene for around twenty-five years, first appearing on Richie Hawtin's early Probe label, before starting what turned out to be a stunning career in music. The man collaborates with the mysterious MREUX across these five mystical slices of minimalistic tech-funk, and there just isn't anything the we don't approve of here; the opener capture is a dark, dubbed-out bundle of electronics that resemble Plastikman's early work, while "Obscene" manages to create a stuttering techno groove out of sparse, limited elements that have been processed heavily, and "Black Area" removes all beats in favour of glitchy drones. The speed is turned up on the much more club-centric groove that is "Christ Complex", which is followed by a much more subtle and deeper dub version. TIP!
