The Park Is Mine (Soundtrack) CD

Amongst some Tangerine Dream afficionados, there's agreement that The Park Is Mine is one of the ever-changing German band's last great albums - something of a recommendation given that they release so many. Composed in 1985 as the soundtrack to a TV movie starring Tommy Lee Jones as a grizzled Vietnam War veteran who forcibly takes control of Central Park, it features a wealth of highly atmospheric, melodically memorable tracks - all of which are tighter, less flabby and far more on point than some of the pioneering krautrock outfit's work. As usual, synthesizer sequences, lead lines and immersive chords are at the forefront, though the band's use of gnarled guitar solos, very mid-80s sounding drum machine rhythms and effects aplenty gives it a real period feel. The film itself may be rubbish, but Tangerine Dream's soundtrack still sounds ace all these years on.
