There's much to admire about soul chanteuse Terisa Griffin's new 12", which marks the veteran vocalist's first single in nearly six years. It's a cover of Marvin Gaye classic "Distant Lover", produced by her old sparring partner and studio buddy Terry Hunter. There are three versions of the wonderfully loose and organic "Distant Mix", with the "Club" version providing the greatest thrills thanks to the presence of Griffin's passionate vocals amongst the fluid drums, disco-soul instrumentation and warm, summery chords. Those looking for something even more spine-tingling should check the brilliant EP closing "Reprise" mix, where Griffin's sweet soul vocal and Hunter's impeccable instrumentation are only accompanied by a whisper of percussion and sun-ripened guitars.
