Myriad label founder Markus Drose has been recording music for some time, though not very much has ever been released - at least not to date. In Memoriam, the German producer's debut album, is therefore something of a pleasant surprise, not least because it's really rather good. Aside from one fusion of speedy gabber beats and gorgeous ambient techno synths ('8 Likes 39 Comments'), the album sees Drose add IDM, deep house and ambient style synths and melodies to a variety of intricately programmed jungle and drum & bass rhythms. It's an undeniably retro-futurist sound for sure, but ultimately a winning one.
