Review: Renowned Greek DJ and experienced producer Argy makes his anticipated return with his newest album, New World, released on the Afterlife label. With 14 tracks in total and most of them clocking in at between three and a half and five minutes, Argy doesn't beat around the bush, giving people what they came for. These tracks ebb and flow quicker than normal techno tracks, giving them a much more straightforward and popular feel. Argy's singing over the tracks fit very well, like in 'All Day Long'. The rhythms are strong while the beats are pulsing and dynamic. Argy is known to be a fantastic techno producer. Singles off the album include 'Higher Power', 'Aria', and 'Pantheon'.

The Sound Of Garden Vol 2 Part 2
Cat: CPSLS 002PART2. Rel: 06 Jun 24
Lee Burton - "Amino" (6:14)
Maggio - "Rolling Phunk" (5:58)
Jamhar, Franko Lopez - "Lost Act" (7:00)
Matteo Point - "Great Weekend" (6:50)
Review: After the first volume went down so well it's no wonder we now get treated to The Sound Of Garden Vol 2 Part 2. This various artist affair comes right from the cutting edge of minimal house and tech with Lee Burton opening up in bold, strident, bouncy fashion as he allows zippy acid to flash about his full-bodied beats. Maggio's 'Rolling Phunk' is just that - perfect effective rhythms with machine soul. Jamhar and Franko Lopez then combine for 'Lost Act' which brings more undulating drums and techno-leaning synths before closer Matteo Point shuts down with the future-facing prog pomp of 'Great Weekend.'

Outside The Dome EP
Cat: SIX66 105. Rel: 09 May 24
The Dome (7:32)
The Dome (Len Lewis remix) (6:17)
Outer Limits (7:27)
Outer Limits (Magnus Asberg remix) (7:37)
Review: Slinky nighttime acid tech from Cirkel Square, laying down his debut 'Outside The Dome' EP for Subwax. Despite the title's focus on the hemispherical exterior, this is actually a two-track study on both the inside and outside of said dome. We begin life inside the hydroponic homestead, with surreptitious trance-acid and dimly lit pads suggestive of a secret plot to escape. The B-side's 'Outer Limits' responds with a more excitable jaunt, though by no means has our escape plan been scuppered by the authorities, with the mood continually driving, techy and methodical. Two remixes from Len Lewis and Magnus Asberg only add to the edge-of-your-seat excitement.

Lost & Found (B-STOCK)

Lost & Found (9:11)
Lost & Found (AM mix) (9:11)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Creasing to outer sleeve but otherwise in excellent condition***

Very big large ups to Guy J for storing his Lost & Found lane to this, its 100th release. It is fitting that the boss himself takes charge of this one: he has long been a master of progressive house sounds and though that style has been in and out of favour over the years right now it is very much en vogue. He offers up two versions of his 'Lost & Found.' The A-side version is all deep and wavy beats, gentle percussive patter and Balearic chord work that is perfect for open-air dancing. On the flip is the Am mix, an even deeper, more stripped-back sound for star gazing and cosmic nights.

Interdimensional Alley (7:57)
Residual Self-Image (8:02)
Defunct Transmission (5:23)
Acid Sunrise At Station746 (7:41)
Review: Hungarian artist Kirk is first up on the newly launched Emotional Intelligence label. His debut effort is a fine prog techno work out with hints of psychedelic 90s influences and plenty of modern machine soul. The opener is a colourful one with widescreen pads and rippling chords add comic energy to the slick drums. 'Residual Self-Image' is a darker cut but still has bounce and funk in the drums and lively synth lines. 'Defunct Transmission' offsets celestial melodic impishness with a rigid and grinding bassline while 'Acid Sunrise At Station746' is for those 4am dance floor moments where you're riding high on a wave of emotion and just want to close your eyes and vibe.

Four Sides EP

Confirmative (6:48)
Title Frequency (6:44)
Four Sides (6:33)
Inbetween (6:29)
Review: Paddy Lee is a new and intriguing talent showing plenty of promise with a fresh sound that draws on retro-future house, electro and minimal. The UK-based producer lands on Parti Pillz here with a flashy outing full of good vibes and new ideas. 'Confirmative takes off on seven cosmic tech vibes with pumping drums and bass and widescreen pad work. 'Title Frequency' is a little more gritty and edgy but rides on a brilliantly rigid bassline that demands you move your body. 'Four Sides' brings some cosmic industrialism and 'Inbetween' shuts down with some throwback prog techno vibes and seriously bumping' kicks.

PO - "Self Deception" (6:56)
Venetia - "Fat Man" (6:05)
Eliaz - "Weuweueoou" (7:38)
BOOH - "EVIL" (6:45)
Review: If you're thirsting for more of that horror soundtrack house then you're not going to want to miss out on this one. BOOOoo! is a new French label debuting with four protagonists in this buoyant sound, leading in with PO tapping into some serious scientologist vibes on 'Self Deception' before Venetia demonstrates the theory that the longer the note, the more the dread on delightfully creepy workout 'Fat Man'. Eliaz tips a bucketload of acid into the mix on 'Weuweueoou' and BOOH completes the picture with the throbbing jack track 'EVIL'.

Voodoo Warriors Of Love - "Limitless" (Sheltering Sky mix) (7:44)
Review: Described as a series of "tricks that never fail to amuse at parties", Party Tricks returns with the second chapter of their reissues series.Consisting of four tracks carefully sourced from different sought-after releases from the 90s and early noughties, these two bits, Rapino Bros' 'Rapinology' and Ro-th's 'One Day', are both minimal and spacious ambient house/trance/acid hybrids, with the former track making for an especially impressive display of emotion.

Rockin' The Boat (5:54)
Review: Gene on Earth's Limousine Dream label has very much been a spearhead in terms of ushering in a new era of sounds - it's a mix of house, tech and prog with retro designs but fresh futuristic ideas. This EP from Reflex Blue perfectly encapsulates that with its surging basslines and warped, bendy synth lines mixing up trippy patterns with neon colours. It's full-blooded body music but next to the functionality it also oozes charter with smart acid prickles, sensuous vocal stabs or kinetic drum programming that really stands out. Brilliant stuff then as always from this crew.

Review: The long beloved Balance series of DJ mixes gathers two prominent figures in the history of dance music for this one episode - Dave Seaman & Quivver. The two are paired up for this double CD set that also features two new tracks to make this project even more appetising. Both Dave Seaman and John Graham aka Quivver have over 30 plus years in the business each, with DJ gigs and credits lists that go on for days to read and their experience shows here. Highlights include Dave's heavy driving remix of 'Low Burn' by Underworld, Ben Archbold's epic 'Psychedelic Halo' and Timo Maas's bass heavy remix of Polaroit's 'Apart'. Dave and Quivver's mixing is flawless as usual - their ability to take a handful of strong tracks and make an epic journey is something they have earned their stripes doing, now you can experience it from the comfort of your living room.

One Finger Piano (Trippy mix) (6:48)
Friendship (7:11)
Last Train To Utopia (5:30)
Review: Polish label Trance Atlantyk keeps it nice and serene with a second superb offering from the forefront of trance-tinged prog house. Seliga is at the controls for this one and kicks things off with 'Sideways', a nice throwback sound with lively baselines and refracted vocals redolent of early Sasha & Digweed sets. 'One Finger Piano' (Trippy mix) is a more overtly euphoric cut with cascading arps and nice warped basslines, then 'Friendship' ups the pace with some punchy prog house funk and 'Last Train To Utopia' shut down with some glassy and glossy melodies and over silky beats.

Review: WC Heritage is a captivating journey into Japan's underground dance music scene of the 2000s, curated by Gonno for his newly launched Sanka label. This compilation resurrects treasured tracks from WC Recordings, a label that championed "Japanese anarchy techno" and released groundbreaking material in the digital and CD format from 2004 to 2009, now making its vinyl debut. Featuring contributions from esteemed artists such as Salmon, Baiyon, Side B, Syuji Wada (DJ Wada), DSKE and Gonno himself, WC Heritage offers nine tracks that exude an edgy 'glitchy-ness' and infectious intensity. Each piece serves as a snapshot of a vibrant and creative moment in Japan's dance music history, previously hidden from the outside world. With its pulsating rhythms, experimental textures, and raw energy, this compilation stands the test of time, offering a glimpse into the innovative spirit of Japan's underground scene. WC Heritage is not just a collection of tracks; it's a testament to the untapped creativity that thrived in the shadows, waiting to be discovered and appreciated by a wider audience.
