Space Drift EP (remixes)
Cat: AMSV 004. Rel: 12 Jun 24
97NY (TC80 remix) (5:59)
Aeons (Pedro Goya remix) (8:43)
Bad Sector (Miles Ellis remix) (5:38)
Space Draft (Karaba remix) (6:15)
Review: Accented Measures Series (AMS) is a still relatively new series that has been compiled and arranged by Accented Measures and is designed to deal in unreleased and new music from some of the scene's key names. The Space Drift Remixes EP is next up the series with a combination of 90s vibes and modern grooves. '97NY' (TC80 remix) is heads down and raw as you like tech. 'Aeons' (Pedro Goya remix) rather spins you out on more silky cosmic pads and the Miles Ellis remix of 'Bad Sector' is thudding tech with rigid drums and washes of sugary synth. 'Space Draft' (Karaba remix) begins some serenity and smoothness to the final cut.

Review: Global Underground present the next release from the nextmost DJ to grace their City Series. ANNA's dynamic sound encompasses multiple styles and genres, from ambient through house to techno, and encapsulates the effortless chic and vibrant nightlife of one of the coolest cities in Europe - Lisbon. This modish Portuguese metropolis has always enjoyed a certain notoriety, but this has perhaps not been felt so intently more than in the last five years or so. ANNA now fleshes out Lisbon's essence, capturing its descending narrow streets, castellated jetties and glorious sunsets with a progressive house, trance and techno mix that satisfies all possible ends of a newfangled tourist's dream.

Review: Boulderhead's I Need Space to Dance EP marks a significant expansion of his sonic horizons, taking in everything from contemplative dub moments to glistening rollers and a psychedelic tour-de-force. Tracks like 'I Need Space' featuring Overnite Oates and 'Dance and Dance Again' deliver shuffly spoken-word tech vibes, sure to become club favourites. Unified yet diverse, the EP appeals to fans of tech-house, prog, broken beat, and minimal techno alike, while Boulderhead, aka Henry James, exhibits the kind of top-tier production skills that hint at the potential for a full-length album.

The Sound Of Garden Vol 2 Part 2
Cat: CPSLS 002PART2. Rel: 06 Jun 24
Lee Burton - "Amino" (6:14)
Maggio - "Rolling Phunk" (5:58)
Jamhar, Franko Lopez - "Lost Act" (7:00)
Matteo Point - "Great Weekend" (6:50)
Review: After the first volume went down so well it's no wonder we now get treated to The Sound Of Garden Vol 2 Part 2. This various artist affair comes right from the cutting edge of minimal house and tech with Lee Burton opening up in bold, strident, bouncy fashion as he allows zippy acid to flash about his full-bodied beats. Maggio's 'Rolling Phunk' is just that - perfect effective rhythms with machine soul. Jamhar and Franko Lopez then combine for 'Lost Act' which brings more undulating drums and techno-leaning synths before closer Matteo Point shuts down with the future-facing prog pomp of 'Great Weekend.'

Any Plan(T)s This Weekend (2:58)
Review: Robert Dietz continues to impress with his latest EP, Rejuve-Nation, demonstrating his versatility and skill as a producer and DJ. The standout track, 'Crane Song,' explores proggy house territory with a sophisticated touch, offering two distinct mixes that captivate the listener with their intelligent arrangements. 'Deranged Self Therapy' takes a different turn, blending IDM with new wave drums and poignant synths, resulting in an excellent composition perfect for lovesick robots. 'Centro Di Gravita' builds upon the qualities of 'Crane Song' while infusing it with an acid lines to push boundaries and experiment with different sounds. Closing the EP, 'Any Plan(t)s This Weekend' provides a soothing ambient experience, like a confident sketch for the end of a beautiful summer. Rejuve-Nation offers a bouquet of bangers catering to various musical preferences.

DJ Gamba - "La Mode Aujourd'hui" (6:15)
Liquid Earth - "The Pressure" (5:40)
Prince De Takicardie - "Let Yo' Body Rock" (8:46)
Vince Void - "Unit Call" (4:36)
Review: Simple Times keeps it local here with four Barcelona-based producers all joining forces on one crucial EP from the Catalan capital. All four cuts are for the floor, but are never pure functional tools and all pay homage to the golden era. They also all come with hints of the 90s starting with DJ Gamba's 'La Mode Aujourd'hui', a high speed and haunting tech cut with eerie pads. Liquid Earth's 'The Pressure' while spinning you out on its nebulous eco-system of synth details and Prince De Takicardie keeps it otherworldly with the cosmic tech of 'Let Yo' Body Rock.' Vince Void's 'Unit Call' has a Gat Decor feel to the bassline that will get you up on your toes.

Cosmic JD - "Soft R@ve" (6:08)
Review: You might have caught onto German label Synq with their release of John Dimas' Rave Wave back in 2020, and now the label finally kicks back into action with a various artists release which widens the scope of the label. DJ Gus leads the way on the A-side with 'Toxic Dementor', a throbbing workout taking cues from Italo and Hi-NRG while retaining the cool demeanour of a modern day club track. Lis Sarroca throws down a dreamy electro beat on 'Solstice' and Voodoos & Taboos brings the heat to 'Press One' before Cosmic JD cleans up with the trancified wig-out 'Soft R@ve'.

Ultravision (Eclipse mix) (8:26)
Lux (with Bliss Inc) (10:04)
Review: NTS listeners and electro lovers will be well-tuned into the work of Gabriola who has hosted the Magiwire show there for a full decade now. It's an exploration of all forms of electro as is this new EP, Believer. Things kick off in electric fashion with the progressive melodies and warped pads of 'Believer' before 'Inner Engineering' gets busy on zippy melodies with turbulent bass spraying about the mix. 'Winged Sun' slows things down to a precise and percolating rhythm that is run through with wires lead and alien lifeforms while 'Ultravision' is a more jacked up and visceral cut and Bliss Inc Present Equator steps up to collaborate on 'Lux' to close things down in style.

Airplane Mode (2:44)
Review: Innella's debut album The Belonging is, says the artist himself, a collective journey of catharsis that offers release from intense or suppressed emotions. In life, facing personal crises is inevitable, and he knows it, so has channelled those feelings into a record that he hopes allows listens to embark on a shared journey from a state of silent turmoil, asking, "where do we belong?" and then navigates through chaos, step by step, until reaching the certainty that "we belong here!" Each track marks a progression away from crisis, guiding you towards a profound sense of belonging on lush electronic beats, progressive melodies and plenty of fine falsetto vocals.

Threat Level Midnight (8:01)
Review:  A year on from Antoine losing what was going to be his debut album, he decided to reform his concept-based project Mise En Place into a vinyl-only label. This is the first outing on it and is a work inspired by the hit TV sitcom The Office (US). 'Australian Reds' is part progressive workout and part stripped back minimal rhythm, 'Colombian Whites' is a 90s-inspired house cut with sparkling synth arps and glitchy claps while 'Cafe Disco (AK's Rare Groove Dub)' takes the B-side into after-hours territory. 'Threat Level Midnight' is an atmospheric closer that take things deep.

Don't Let Go (Funk mix) (7:11)
Searching Through (5:16)
Review: Jamie Leather looks back to some early and dreamy 80s house sounds with his new EP on Gosu. Opener 'Transcript' has a bit of everything - prog chords, cosmic energy, sleek, bouncy techno drums and a playful optimism. The synths dart about the mix in more rigid fashion on 'Mid 2000s' which actually sounds more mid-80s and 'Don't Let Go (Funk mix' brings splashy cosmic pads, zippy and serrated synths over jerking house bates. 'Searching Through' closes with a little extra Chicago snap and some retro-future synth sounds that bring great colour and inventive patterns.

Review: Paddy Lee is a new and intriguing talent showing plenty of promise with a fresh sound that draws on retro-future house, electro and minimal. The UK-based producer lands on Parti Pillz here with a flashy outing full of good vibes and new ideas. 'Confirmative takes off on seven cosmic tech vibes with pumping drums and bass and widescreen pad work. 'Title Frequency' is a little more gritty and edgy but rides on a brilliantly rigid bassline that demands you move your body. 'Four Sides' brings some cosmic industrialism and 'Inbetween' shuts down with some throwback prog techno vibes and seriously bumping' kicks.

Review: Maceo Plex has managed to pivot this alias from accessible house cuts with creamy basslines into a far more interesting project that explores astral techno with a range of different influences from sci-fi to wave to the sounds of the 80s. That has never been better exemplified than on '93, his expansive album on his Lone Romantic label. It features emo-anthems like 'Revision', disco-techno stompers like 'Go Back' and chunky robot-tech like 'All Night'. Plenty of guests from Mystic Bill to label mate AVNU Jane's Addiction frontman and alternative music legend Perry Farrell all help add a wide world of sound to the electronic core.

Safe (Joris Voorn remix) (6:41)
Review: The German pair Monkey Safari have been turning out useful club-ready house for many years but in recent times have dived into more melodic and progressive realms. And that is showcased here on 'Safe'., a new single for Spectrum that gets special red vinyl treatment. The single is a sweeping, uplifting, subtle prog house cut with starry-eyed pads and intimate vocal whispers that all sound perfectly designed for a Balearic club outing this summer. On the flip, the respected studio wizard that is Joris Voorn brings his serene touch and gets even more emotional.

Ninja Hagen & Niko S - "Samplexity" (5:49)
Niko S - "Choughacid" (7:26)
Review: Double Trouble by Ninja Hagen and Niko S, released on Superpartyrecords, is a vinyl-only gem that is a fantastic retro visit to the realm of progressive house. The EP comprises four peak-time tracks that pay homage to pioneering technologies in sound engineering while infusing the dancefloor. On Side-1, 'High Fidelity' channels late 80s/early 90s techno with its vintage appeal, blending tech house elements with futuristic techno sounds. 'Nord Speed 2X' follows suit, offering retro techno vibes driven by machine-driven sounds. On Side-2, 'Samplexity' delves deeper into progressive territory with intricate sampling techniques, while Niko S's solo track "Choughacid" takes listeners on a techno trance journey. Overall, Double Trouble is a sublime example to the duo's creativity and their ability to push boundaries within the progressive house genre.

Review: If you're thirsting for more of that horror soundtrack house then you're not going to want to miss out on this one. BOOOoo! is a new French label debuting with four protagonists in this buoyant sound, leading in with PO tapping into some serious scientologist vibes on 'Self Deception' before Venetia demonstrates the theory that the longer the note, the more the dread on delightfully creepy workout 'Fat Man'. Review: Gene on Earth's Limousine Dream label has very much been a spearhead in terms of ushering in a new era of sounds - it's a mix of house, tech and prog with retro designs but fresh futuristic ideas. This EP from Reflex Blue perfectly encapsulates that with its surging basslines and warped, bendy synth lines mixing up trippy patterns with neon colours. It's full-blooded body music but next to the functionality it also oozes charter with smart acid prickles, sensuous vocal stabs or kinetic drum programming that really stands out. Brilliant stuff then as always from this crew.

Review: Polish label Trance Atlantyk keeps it nice and serene with a second superb offering from the forefront of trance-tinged prog house. Seliga is at the controls for this one and kicks things off with 'Sideways', a nice throwback sound with lively baselines and refracted vocals redolent of early Sasha & Digweed sets. 'One Finger Piano' (Trippy mix) is a more overtly euphoric cut with cascading arps and nice warped basslines, then 'Friendship' ups the pace with some punchy prog house funk and 'Last Train To Utopia' shut down with some glassy and glossy melodies and over silky beats.

Review: Charlie May and Duncan Forbes, childhood friends turned musical collaborators, found themselves at the forefront of the UK's burgeoning progressive house scene in the early 90s. Their album Gargantuan still shines like a star to this era, blending influences from Italian house, Jamaican dub, and German trance into a cohesive and innovative sound. Spearheaded by William Orbit's Guerilla Records, May and Forbes contributed a track, 'Don't Panic,' that epitomized the genre's playful yet sophisticated vibe. Gargantuan still moves listeners with its infectious melodies, funky basslines, and intricate rhythms, earning it acclaim as a landmark of early progressive house. Featuring the setlist staple 'Littlet Bullet' and the underrated but beloved 'Schmoo' (dub), you have a jammed pack double disc of great 90s UK dance music. Gargantuan receives a well-deserved vinyl reissue, reminding listeners of its enduring influence and timeless appeal.

Review: The UK's Grammy Award-winning Tourist aka William Phillips is back with a fifth studio full length. It comes not long after last year's hugely emotive Inside Out and is another escapist delight that, true to the artist's intension, transports you to another place. It's an album that features ten tunes written in a new way that instead of being rooted in the artist's own personal emotions instead appeals to everyone, in that it depicts imaginary places you want to visit. It's just the sort of soundtrack you need to melt your woes away.

Review: Six dance tracks skillfully blending old-school vibes with contemporary sounds, spanning acid, breakbeat, electro and house, inviting listeners to dream of underground raves and enigmatic gatherings where ethereal battles against soulless algorithms unfold amid nocturnal dance. Highlights include Trabuco's 'Happy Spliff, a vibrant mix of New York house and early 90s-inspired techno, setting a nostalgic yet fresh tone. Trabuco's 'Signals' follows, delivering a spacey techno experience that feels both futuristic and retro. Yepecc's 'UFO Camp' seamlessly combines electro and acid for a sci-fi romp that transports listeners to otherworldly dimensions. Kevin Kendall's 'Volca Three' stands out with its rich analogue bass, adding depth and warmth to the compilation. The album closes with Victor Reyes' 'Inspired By Nature,' which offers a cool, bouncy finale that leaves a lasting impression. Overall, The Sciences of the Artificial is a refreshing take on retro styled techno and it is perfect for those seeking a blend of nostalgic and fun.

Review: Berlin-based Views - aka Atilla Fidan - always takes his time in releasing new techno material, but it's always worth the wait. Three years on from his last EP, he's returning to Onirik's Garage Hermetique label with another batch of machine jams with classic electronica in their bones. There's a whiff of early Orbital about 'Eends', but the weaving lead lines also speak to Aphexian melancholy. 'Self Love' has a rawer acidic bleep techno flavour, while Onirik gets busy on a remix of earlier track 'Nazar' before the deeper strains of 'Arrival' take hold.

Review: Lviv native Yaroslav M helps Chat Noir launch its newest V/A series in full force, bringing four acid house vinyl slab-segments to their so far alkaline, and thus wanting, repertoire. Somewhere in the gap between dark tech house and new-beatific trance come 'Hit It' and 'Affairs', whilst the anime namesake 'Champloo' is a comparatively bleepy one, easing up on the human side of things, and letting the automatons run their course, by way of more arpeggiations and cyberspatial FX. Finally, 'Things Between' rounds things off on a dark acidic prance-off.

Amours Electroniques (Naranja instrumental remix) (8:18)
Review: Although the no-nonsense French label Skylax more often deals in classic house music, this latest 12" is a raw disco gem. It is the second in the Uprising series from Zaratustra and it opens with 'Dark Clouds (club mix)' which comes with twisted beats and a reflective hall of melodies that shine bright. 'Amours Electroniques' is an instrumental with retro-future 80s synths and drums taking you back to a different world and then comes Emilio Van Rijsel's remix of 'Dark Clouds' which comes a trance-tinged and hands in the air pumper.
