Review: Top Ranking Sound rolls out more featured reggae gold from the vaults here with a new 12" that features tow originals and two versions. Black Survivors open up the account with 'Come Away Jah Jah Children' which is brilliantly unhurried. The horns are lazy and steamy, the vocals seductive, the drums seriously heavy. A dub version allows more focus on the noodling acoustic guitars, then Original Survivors step up with their own version on the flipside under the same title. This one is a little more bright and uplifting with a dub that is just as good closing out the record.

Review: Pressure Sounds come through with a super 10" here with Natty Roots Controller mixed three different ways by Paolo Baldini. It is a Barry Brown original and the first remix is one with models of echo and reverb, plenty of knob twisting and heavily affected hi-hats and a rolling rhythm. Version 1 of the remix is heavier and more upright, with just as much bass weight, then the second version is lit up with some sci-fi effects. All three are delicious dubs for those who like it heady.

Review: Robert "Dubwise" Browne is a skilled musician who can lay down perfect basslines, lovely keyboard overdubs and excite drum programming. H does all that and more on this super laidback and heartfelt dub for the Japanese label Vortex. 'Tracks of Love' is the sound of a lazy afternoon walk in the park with a new love, without a care in the world and hearts in your eyes. The Balearic guitar solo that rings out midway through is utterly soul melting. The guitar dub makes even more of that aspect of the original.

Review: West London label D-Roy and their sub-label Niagara are in the process of putting out a top series of seven reissues with names like Freddie McKay, Al Campbell, Gregory Isaacs and Junior Reid all making the cut. This one is a gem from Barry Brown that finds him in full-on soul mode as he draws out his languorous vocals over a classic lover's rock rhythm. Swirling horns add extra luxuriousness and on the flip, we get the Dub Plate Mix. This one has drums tumbling over themselves, endless amounts of echo and head-twisting effects for the late-night smokers.

Review: Jai Life digs into their archives for this latest 12" and offers up a pair of killer disco mixes. First up is a tune that deserves the title of being one of the most overlooked gems in the label's catalogue - it has been little known ever since the first time it was released in the early '80s. Terrie from the Nairobi Sisters sings on 'Left With a Broken Heart' which melts into a killer dub-wise groove with fine melodica. On the flip is one of Barrington Lvi's best tunes, 'Black Man Heart', with a killer dub from Scientist remix next to the disco-tinged original.

Review: Dennis Brown serve dup a real roots classic when he penned 'Milk and Honey.' It is a dub that still does damage and so has had a nice fresh reamster for 2022. It's an enduring anthem with plenty of praise for Jah. The prodigal comes with Clive Hunt's original 'Bitter Sweet' dub which he made under his Azul moniker. It's full of echoing synths and head melting pads as well as cavernous bass depths. On the B side, Jay Glass Dubs tackles the original with a warped sense of space and time as he deconstructs contemporary dub into something all new. This is a limited-edition white label vinyl 12" so snap it up fast.

Review: With a catalogue that contains a mixture of mind-altering chuggers, deep house, disco and Balearic beats, second-guessing what Craig Bratley will release next has always been a tricky proposition. Even so, joining forces with Brooklyn maverick - and honey-voiced singer - Amy Douglas for a spot of bleeping revivalist synth soul was one of them. Douglas is at her emotive best on the B-side original mix, singing sweetly about complicated relationships over a thrillingly lo-fi low-tempo groove rich in squelchy bass and 8-bit lead lines. The A-side 'Ashigaru Dub' is arguably even better, brilliantly re-framing the track as a heady, intoxicating and sub-heavy dub workout of the sort that Mad Professor probably knocks out in his sleep. In a word: inspired!

Review: Japanese reggae/dancehall artist Boogie Man embarked on a career in the early 90s, inspired by the prospect of filling an unfilled niche: adding humorous and bombastic lyrics to an internationally renowned genre he loved. The track 'Pachinco Man' is a tribute to pachinko, a popular arcade game in Japan that involves shooting metal balls into a machine. Much like the ballistics of such an unforgettable arcade fixture, the track flaunts Boogie Man's energetic vocals over an upbeat dancehall riddim, emphasising positivity and humour. Review: On the second volume in the GATT edits series, Swedish scalpel fiend Beatconductor once again pairs a previously unheard rework with something sought-after from his catalogue. In the latter category you'll find flipside 'Crazy in Kingston', an early noughties mash-up that adds Beyonce's superb lead vocals (and Jay-Z's on-point rap verse) from the peerless 'Crazy in Love' with a dusty old reggae riddim. It's a simple idea, beautifully executed. The brand-new (or at least previously unheard) cut this time around is 'Finger on the Trigger', a lolloping, life-affirming tweak of a 1970s dancefloor soul number that sits somewhere between the stomping heaviness of Detroit Soul and the proto-disco deliciousness of Philly Soul.

Review: When composing the tracks featured on his first release on Anthony Naples and Jenny Slattery's Incienso imprint, Mister Saturday Night and Vanity Press alumnus James Bangura reportedly drew inspiration from long, late-night teenage driving experiences. There's certainly a 'speeding through canyons under a blanket of stars' feel to 'Barred Entry', a hypnotic techno journey rich in restless kick-drums, hissing ride cymbals, hazy organ loops and delay-laden chords. He flips the script on 'Mixed Signals', delivering a dubbed-out slab of mind-mangling breakbeat house hedonism, before blurring the boundaries between high-octane electro and breathless techno on 'Monterrey'. To round things off, he adds reverb-heavy ambient textures and yearning synth-strings to a crunchy dub techno groove on EP standout 'Wichita'.
