Souls In The City (part 2 & 1) (6:08)
Night People (5:16)
Big Boy Pants (6:31)
Downtime Vibes (4:35)
Review: Let's face facts, the trilogy of releases that ACR:EPR completes have helped win over a new generation of fans for the band while reassuring established followers that A Certain Ratio can still do the business. They've been heartfelt and honest, truly innovative and - when all is said and done, at some point in the near future - destined to be considered collector's items.

The final chapter is certainly winding things up triumphantly. '$ouls In The City' seems to go straight for the mind's eye, an enrapturing track that chugs its way through layers of funk groove, with acid details just about audible on top. 'Night People' is a far more sticky, treacly affair, while 'Big Boy Pants' ushers in a kind of nocturnal seduction, brass and rolling breakbeats setting the scene perfectly for the ska-infused melodies of 'Downtime Vibes' that follow.

SAMO (Werkha remix) (5:21)
Constant Curve (feat Ellen Beth Abdi - Emperor Machine extended rework) (7:19)
Waiting On A Train (feat Ellen Beth Abdi & Chunky - Jade Parker remix) (4:02)
Review: The album 1982 stands out as one of the finest moments in A Certain Ratio's story. When you're talking about a band that started half a decade before the year 1982, that's saying something. Following on from the landmark ACR Loco, the outfit's 2023 record is packed with multidimensionality - dipping toes into everything from gritty post punk (a sound from whence they first came) to Afrobeat, all realised with exceptional attention to detail and the highest possible standards. 2023 EP, as the title suggests, builds on the impact of that latest long-from release. Opening on the jazzy late night club workout 'Day By Day', a brand new number, the package then jumps into work from the aforementioned LP, redone by contemporary dons. So that's Werkha on a stepping, garage-hued version of 'SAMO', Emperor Machine emphasising the exotic disco grooves of 'Constant Curve', and Jade Parker offering a highly percussive cosmic take on 'Waiting On A Train'.

Young Parisians (3:00)
Lady (2:04)
Review: Here's a blast from the past for Decca and Adam & The Ants alike. Many people have many ideas about what Adam & The Ants sound like, but they confounded expectations from their very first single when they shared 'Young Parisians' with the world in 1978. As Adam Ant later described, their sole single for Decca confused everyone who thought they were a punk band, which was entirely their intention. As a lilting, swinging slice of jangle pop, it's not at all what most would expect of the band, but it's brilliant in its own unique way.

Pink Rhythm (6:41)
Review: The Advanced Cookbook Of Mr Selig And Kanzler Z was a short-lived experimental jazz act also known as Cookbook. They put out one EP and two albums, with this 12" being taken from the debut. It came in 1989 and German label the Zoo In You initially and has the vocals of Mr Selig on the A-side, and guitar by Wolfgang Bokelmann and words by Dieter Pougin on the flip. An original will cost you more than a night at the pub and even finding samples online can be hard. Rest assured it is future jazz that still sounds futuristic today.

Review: Dot Allison debuted in 1999 with her Aftergow album and ever since has kept fans old and new enthralled with her voice. Heart-Shaped Scars was a follow-up 12 years later than won plenty of plaudits and now the label it came on serve up this bonus 7" with two new cuts. There is the rather bleakly but beautifully alluring 'Ghost Orchid' and then 'Love Died in our Arms' which is a reference to a past musical life in which Dot made trip hop. The World Is Full Of Plankton (7:59)
All Is Harvest (6:45)
The Emptiness Of Nothingness (6:45)
Review: Not a lot sounds like The Amorphous Androgynous, which is a relief because with a name like that you really do need to back it up with something experiential. A quick search online can tell anyone the duo - better known as Future Sound of London - have a strange relationship with Noel Gallagher, having recorded with him only to then be told by the Manchester man the outcome was shit so he destroyed the masters. Apparently these then turned up in a sock circa 2018 and you could almost be forgiven at least one of the tracks is here.

Actually, The World Is Full of Plankton comprises three tracks from 2005's album Alice in Ultraland, but the wailing, trippy, spaced out vocals that float in and out of dominance on the title number almost sound like the old Oasis lad. It's a deep and very operatic affair, which contrasts the exotic spatiality of 'All Is Harvest' and the prog rock piano stepper, 'The Emptiness of Nothingness'. Amazing stuff.

Defeat (22:02)
The Challenge (live edit) (9:32)
Review: Defeat is a 22-minute new mega-single by Animal Collective, who by now should need no introduction (but for the rookies, we'll indulge one anyway) as the paradigm-breaking experimental pop band and formed in 1999. 'Defeat' is divided into two parts. The first is a beatless, coming-of-age pop seance, spanning surreal harmonia, whirling organelles and beatless spirallings, lyrically centring on the theme of overcoming adolescence. Part two is far darker, concerning the implicit alienation of a mother restlessly searching for her daughter in a lost dystopia, while horrific, tremolo'ing cellos play out in bad-trip horror flick fashion. Recorded with producer Russell Elevado, violinist Samara Lubelski, cellist Leila Bordreuil, and saxophonist Ben Chapoteau-Katz, it's certain to sate fans of the Collective, who remain committed to an ever-chameleonic bravado.

I Will Survive (4:40)
RNC 2020 (3:13)
Review: RECOMMENDED
The most surprising thing about this staggering 7" is the fact the artist formerly known as Anthony Hegarty hasn't released 'I Will Survive' before. Gloria Gaynor's testament to the strength of the human spirit, and particularly the resilience people call upon when facing a broken heart, has long been an anthem of global queer and counterculture. Anonhi, either as lead singer of rightly lauded Anthony & The Johnsons, or as latter day soloist, is an icon of those same scenes, laying claim to being the only transgender person ever nominated for an Academy Award ('Manta Ray', from the movie Racing Extinction).

The results are everything we could have hoped for, rethinking the disco anthem as an acoustic number equal parts teary-eyed pride and sorrow, Anonhi's famous baritone crying out over strings and guitars. Backed with the frenzied distorted riffs and rage of 'RNC 2020', it's a formidable release.

Windows Of My Mind (remix) (4:56)
Review: The story of this one revolves around San Diego native Anthony "Antone" Williams. He was one day alone in a studio, messing about with the gear and before he knew he it lay down the haunting rhythm that underpins the tune now presented here by the good folks at Athens of the North. It's a sinister, restless one that got released as a hugely limited 7" on Unity Records with otherworldly soul production and a pained vocal up top. Post punk soul, some call it, and that's a fitting descriptor. A remix appears on the flip but the allure of the original is hard to beat.

Review: Arlo Parks is now a hugely successful indie artist with many great tunes to her name. One of them came back in 2019 in the form of her Cola EP back when she was just 18 years old. It showcased her smoky, soulful and mournful vocal skills with gentle guitar accoutrements and plenty of dusty vinyl crackle for added authenticity. That title tune is here in all its tender glory while on the flip is 'George' which is yet another standout single that has slightly more upbeat lyrics and prouder production. What a talent she is.

Jorginho Telles - "Brasileiro" (3:02)
Review: You always know what you are going to get from Mr Bongo's Brazil 45 series and that is pure fire in musical form. This 100th release suggests the label has no intention of slowing down nor is it running low on top source material. This one from As Meninas on the A-side has beautiful female vocal-group arrangements with flutes that soar up top and plenty of ass-shaking samba shuffles down low. It's a tune that oozes soul and charm and was first released back in 1967. It's a super sweet but short song that is backed with 'Brasileiro' on the flip. It's taken from Jorginho Telles' self-titled 1971 album on Copacabana Records and mixes up raw guitar sounds with r&b vibes into something unusual and alluring.

Review: Astral Quartet was a group that changed their name and evolved into Centre El Muusa. They never played live nut managed to record just two tunes back in 2018. Now, five years later, they finally get to see the light of day. They could be 50 years old such is the quality of the musicianship - fusions of jazz and funk that brim with character. The band is made up of Monika Erdman, Rauno Vaher, Volodja Brodsky and Misha Panfilov who mix up cosmic Wurlitzer sounds, languorous synths and fresh drums, turning it into something laidback and psyched on the b-side and more funky and up-beat on the a-side.

Brian Bennett & Alan Hawkshaw - "Name Of The Game" (4:25)

Review: Measured Mile is a new 7" label run by regular Ace consultant and confidante Bob Stanley. The plan is to release DJ-friendly 45s that are either very rare or previously unavailable on seven-inch. On this new one come two pieces from esteemed library musicians - the well known pairing of Alan Hawkshaw and Brian Bennett, and Dave Richmond. 'Name Of The Game' is a slow instrumental blues piece with beats ready to be plundered for hip-hop beats that once soundtracked a 1970s aftershave ad, while Richmond's 'Confunktion' is a motivational builder-upper with drums and organs aplenty.

Andwella - "Hold Onto Your Mind" (3:49)
Review: Guerssen Records specialise in reissuing obscure psychedelic music from the past, and here they home in on two early British psychedelic bands, Hopscotch and Andwella. 'Look At The Lights Go Up' is Hopscotch's contribution, with the band made up of former members of the Eyes and Tomorrow, and the track comes as a rare and unreleased demo of melodic trip-sat illumination and lyrical nonsensicality ("This lady from the forest of Manhattan...". Andwella's 'Felix' comes to the B-side, and is a formerly unreleased outtake from their second album World's End.

Review: The super French crew Hard Fist have got a brilliantly twisted new Balearic record on their hands here thanks to the work of Shkema in both original and remix mode. He goes first with the deep, dubby and post-punk moodiness of 'Tas Malonumas' then 'Room Of Men Eaters' is a chugging deep disco cut with a fine vocoder vocal that brings some trippiness. 'Sarka Syrkaza' on the flip is another dark one with twisted metal guitar lines and rooted drum drums, then he remixes Afrodelic's 'Je N'Aime Pas Les Fetes' into a loose-limbed and percussive dub disco delight with filtered and freaky vocals.

Review: A Certain Ratio's core trio of drummer Donald Johnson, bassist/vocalist Jez Kerr, and multi-instrumentalist Martin Moscrop make ACR Loco a perfectly fluid and funk album. In fact, on this, their first album in more than ten years, the Manchester post-punk outfit are as funky as they have ever been. Their tried and tested sound gets nicely updated with modern beat driven sounds and plenty of redefines to today's political strife in the lyrics. There are plenty of smooth and cool synth led grooves like 'Get A Grip' and messages of unity on 'Family' that we can all relate to.

Review: Originally released in 1982, A Flock Of Seagulls' eponymous debut album heard them burst on to the new wave scene with advanced songwriting and catchy guitar laps and lyrics. With Phil Spector hailing the album as 'phenomenal', perhaps for somewhat conforming to his wally production technique, the band ended up being venerated near-timelessly for their quasi-electronic synth tunes like 'I Ran' (clock the use of early electronic drum pads in its breakdown). This is new wave at one its best pop-centric peaks.

Review: A Flock of Seagulls may be best known for their hit song 'I Ran (So Far Away)' but the band's influence on synthpop and new wave, outside of that claim to fame, is actually much greater. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1982, features the iconic track as well as other memorable cuts such as 'Space Age Love Song' and 'Wishing', adding extra far-out elements to the formula already cut out by The Cure. The band's distinctive hairstyle, featuring asymmetrical cuts and a gravity-defying swoop, became known as the "Flock of Seagulls haircut," even refernced in the film 'Pulp Fiction'. Cleopatra US's reissue of the album is a reminder of the band's lasting impact on 80s pop culture.

Review: Formed in 1995, Belgian death metal icons Aborted have become renowned for their dizzying technicality and seamless fusion of the more brutal and melodic aspects of the genre, all the while harbouring a major predilection towards grindcore. Signing to highly revered metal label Nuclear Blast for their 12th full-length Vault Of Horrors, the project takes an old school approach to lyrical inspiration with each of the cuts based off of specific, classic horror films, from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre ('Death Cult') to Halloween ('The Shape of Hate') to Hellraiser ('Hellbound') to later morbid entries such as The Mist ('Malevolent Haze'). That's before even mentioning the ludicrous array of guest vocal features across the album, appearing more like a hip-hop record at first glance with practically every track offering room to the likes of Alex Erian (Despised Icon), Matt McGachy (Cryptopsy), and Jason Evans (Ingested) to name but a small handful.

Review: Celebrating half a century of rock legacy, AC/DC's Back In Black gets a special edition release some 44 years after its original unleashing. The iconic album is well known for its thunderous riffs and anthemic choruses and though it is very much of its age, it solidified AC/DC's status as one of rock's greatest bands, despite the appearance of flat capped Geordie Brian Johnston in place of Bon Scott, who died tragically in 1980. With hits like 'You Shook Me All Night Long', live favourites 'Hells Bells' and 'Rock 'N' Roll Ain't Noise Pollution' and the title track, the album reached all-new heights of rock energy and big riffery and now this anniversary edition offers a fresh perspective on a timeless classic while showcasing AC/DC's enduring influence on the rock landscape.

Review: It's 1977 and AC/DC are not-so-fresh after a spell as the support on Black Sabbath's tour. Looking for a new bassist, after a disagreement over whether to pick Manfred Mann's Colin Pattenden, the band agree on Cliff Williams, who would remain in place until 2003. Recording what became Powerage, their fifth studio album, Atlantic Records soon complained there wasn't a sellable lead single. 'Rock 'n' Roll Damnation' took form, one of the group's outliers, which comes without standard guitar solo but with maracas and hand claps. While this proved divisive among die hard fans, the album itself has gold waiting to be discovered deeper down. 'Gimme A Bullet', for example, has been cited as the finest track the late Bon Scott would write, his lyrical flair and deft metaphorical wit shining through on a tune that won't let up. This was his final LP, and tragically three years later he was no longer with us, marking an end to the group's iconic first chapter.

Review: If you want blood... well, we all know what comes next. AC/DC are among the most marmite of stadium-sized rock bands, their consistency over the past six decades seen by some as relentless homogeneity. In reality, it's an auteur signature. We know, within three chords of school uniform-clad Angus Young's iconic Gibson, whose song, it is yet to the trained ear there are huge differentiations at play. From drawly blues through to seismic main stage energy. Highway To Hell is one of the group's seminal early outings, and any self-respecting fan should own it already. Although perhaps not in this stunning gold edition, released to celebrate the LP's 50th anniversary. Newcomers can expect an insight into the barrooms filled with sweat and spilt drinks from which this mega group came out of and a clue as to why Bon Scott, the lead singer who tragically died as they really hit fifth gear, will always have a place in our hearts.

Review: Six years is ages for a band to go without releasing an album or doing very much. But for AC/DC, whose work rate has always been ridiculously high, it's a very, very long time. Between then and now, the band lost their lead singer, Brian Johnson, to hearing difficulties in the middle of their last tour, and saw drummer Paul Rudd arrested in New Zealand for 'attempting to procure a murder'. Talk about impetus to finally call time.

But then these are the guys responsible for one of history's greatest heavy rock triumphs, 1980s's Back In Black, released just months after formative frontman Bon Scott tragically passed. So it's no surprise Power Up, another post-traumatic release albeit an act of reunification with now (relatively) healthy Johnson and innocent Rudd returning, is among their best in the 40 years since. A comeback record that sounds exactly like AC/DC should - ballsy, bluesy, boozy riffs.

Review: Following up the worldwide smash Back In Black was going to be a tough job for anyone, but AC/DC brought the big guns in - more specifically, the big gun on its cover, which we also get to hear in full explosive effect on the album's title track, the kind of epic most bands save for their closer but here designated the opening tune. While it's fair to say not as many of the tracks here made it into AC/DC classic territory as on its predecessor, the sound of the now Brian Johnson-fronted team in full power mode dishing out groovers like 'Let's Get It Up' and 'C.O.D' is pretty irresistible, while 'Breaking The Rules' marks new ground for them - a slow motion, headnodding anthem with the band's long running anti-authoritarian stance writ large upon it.

Review: The year 1977 might be remembered for being the moment punk went overground, but it was also the time that AC/DC turned into global rock superstars in the wake of the arrival of their classic Let There Be Rock album. This limited release takes a selection of tracks from the longer original recording in front of a rabid sounding audience at San Francisco's Old Waldorf in September 77, capturing the Australians in about as top form as you'll ever hear, from Malcom Young wall-of-sound riffing and Phil Rudd's nailed-to-the-floor drumming and Bon Scott's disitinctive wail. Alongside the wel worn classics like 'Problem Child' and 'Bad Boy Boogie' there are a handful of lesser known tracks in the process of being roadtested and you don't often see in their set lists, There's even a run through rock 'n' roll standard 'Plese Don't Go'.

Review: Live from the now closed down Hippodrome at London's Golders Green on October 27 1977, Problem Child offers an unadulterated earful of the Aussie rock giants in their earlier sonic heyday, complete with the legendary Bon Scott on vocals. Captured during their expansive run in promotion of their fourth Scott era LP Let There Be Rock, the set boasts some of the record's most timeless and bombastic cuts, from the iconic title track to the banging 'Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be' to the quintessential 'Whole Lotta Rosie', but there's still enough energy to pump out the frenetic closer 'TNT' in all of its original, raw abandon.

Review: The Best Of AC/DC, Live At The Nippon Seinenkan, Tokyo, Japan 4th February 1981. Renowned by some as one of the best live bands in history, this one hears the group during their Back In Black Tour, celebrating their most successful and rewarded album of the same name.It was the first time AC/DC toured with their new singer Brian Johnson, as well as the first time they toured the Far East. Pulling out all the stops during this stopoff in Japan, the band breaks out all the hits here; be that 'Back In Black', 'Highway To Hell', 'You Shook Me All Night Long', 'Whole Lotta Rosie' and 'Let There Be Rock'. This new edition from The Vinyl Champ is not to be trifled with.

Review: If you don't know Acid Mothers Temple, get to know. This terrific psychedelic rock band is part of the quintessence of Eastern counterculture, self-defined as a "freak-out group for the 21st Century", led by Kawabata Makoto. With most of their albums centring on a ten minute long prog-haze freakouts, Paralyzed Brain here is no exception, with its three star pieces - 'Cemetery Orbital Drive 0011', 'Paralyzed Brain' and 'Magic Bohemian Has Gone' - adding up to a whopping deluge of consciousness-expanding rock. Now reissued on LP after its first, limited edition CD-only version as part of 'The Electric Dream Ecstasy Tour' in 2018.

Review: Leipzig band Acid Rooster have been laying out their template for hard-boiled psych rock for some six years now, and they're getting stronger with each release. This latest album is made up of six long-form jams doused in FX and holding down sustained grooves in a manner which doffs its cap to the pioneers of krautrock from Ash Ra Tempel to Amon Duul. There is a dustier finish to the band though, as they show themselves to be equally in thrall to the lurid squall of the American psyche explosion, but somewhere in the middle they come out truly sounding like themselves.

Review: Action Pact were a punk rock band from Stanwell, an isolated village right under the flight-path of London Heathrow Airport, inspiring this compilation album's title. Consisting of two formerly unreleased John Peel sessions as well as a David Jensen session - totalling 16 tracks - this retrospective charts the band's history, from their formation in 1981 by guitarist Wild Planet, bassist and lyricist Dr. Phibes and the then 15-year-old drummer Joe Fungus and singer George Cheex, still school-kids when their Heathrow Touchdown EP was released in October 1981. BBC DJ John Peel played the single many times and booked them for the first session to appear here, recorded in February 1982. The second Peel session was recorded and broadcast in 1982 and a David Jensen BBC session in 83.

Review: The second full-length from Los Angeles crust-punk/powerviolence mob ACxDC (Antichrist Demoncore) arrived in 2020, six years after their venomous self-titled debut made good on the promise of over a decade's worth of demos, EPs and splits. Satan Is King (a nod to Kanye West's 'Jesus Is King' released the year prior) is another caustic batch of pummelling d-beat punk funnelled through a rusted scuzzy decanter of hardcore fury and satanic worship, featuring feel good hits of the summer such as 'Copsucker'. In all seriousness, if you find your current hardcore lacking in the blasphemy department or just a tad too sanitised, then look no further than this crushing collection of audible violence from true cavern crawlers of the underground.

It is a full throttle 13 track rock workout with dense and gauzy guitars layered up into impenetrable walls as the vocal wails fight your attention. Adia Victoria makes a thoroughly welcome return with her third album, A Southern Gothic. From her unmistakable vocal twang to the scratchy tone of her guitar and the bottleneck lurches behind her, she embodies the south of the USA with undeniable flair. Doubling down on that idea for her third record, she conjures up another stellar run of blues with acerbic wit and confessional intimacy woven together in potent fashion. Featuring the likes of Kyahona and Margo Price on 'You Was Born To Die' and Stone Jack Jones on 'My Oh My', this might just be her best album yet.

Review: A band who surely need no introduction to anyone familiar with the Southern California hardcore punk boom of the 80s, Adolescents may be far from the age bracket of their moniker by this advanced stage in their tenure, but does that in any way equate to a sonic calming of sorts? The answer, according to their 11th full-length Caesar Salad Days, is a resounding "not a chance in hell, poser". The follow up to 2020's Russian Spider Dump marks their second full-length since the untimely passing of bassist Steve Soto (the only consistent member of the group since their formation), and continues the band's time-honoured tradition of delivering scathing bangers, equal parts joyous and chaotic.

Review: Owen Ashworth is Advance Base and his 2015 album Nephew In The Wild gets a reissue here. It was his second of what has now been six albums since he left his Casiotone for the Painfully Alone bedroom pop project and it pairs gentle indie songwriting with melancholic themes and a lo-fi production style. His often simple arrangements pair a heartfelt melody and gauzy guitar line with minimal drums as he shares the joys of married life and parenthood and the folly of youthful recklessness.

The sounds here are brilliantly thrilling and high octane across a first record in five years. 26 years after this group formed they still find new heights and fresh sounds as they reference greats like Warren Zevon, Prince, and Zeppelin while also adding their own love of soul and R&B. Frontman Greg Dulli is in typical swaggering and dynamic form on the mic as he leads this one from the front.

Review: There's no rock frontman quite like Greg Dulli, and even in middle age his melancholy and morally ambiguous loverman persona appears to be maturing like the proverbial fine wine. Moreover, the blend of soulful heart-on-sleeve balldeering and gritty rock-outs finds new vistas and moments of intensity on 'In Spades' - lurking somewhere between the testosterone bluster of Springsteen and the slinky grooves of Motown, yet with the addition of noisy electronic grooves, as on the opener 'Birdland,' only bolstering their arsenal. It's a treat to have this louche rogue back.

Review: Grief can be intensely painful, overwhelming and hard to process, but also provide inspiration for those who make creative expression their life. For Pakistani-born, Brooklyn-based artist Arooj Afhab, the death of her beloved brother provided the inspiration for what some reviewers have called her greatest work yet: beautiful, poignant and soul-aching 2021 set Vulture Prince, which here returns to stores via a deluxe edition that boasts an extra track (the stunning 'Udhero Na'). Deeply emotional, the set pushes her weighty, emotionally inspiring vocals to the fore, with Afthab swapping experimental electronics and leftfield beats for a mixture of acoustic guitars, heavenly string arrangements (harp, violin, uptight bass) and traditional Pakistani instruments. The results are rarely less than stunning.

Review: After Dinner is like one of those molecular gastronomy adventures, where dishes are both playful and highly complex, not necessarily revealing themselves until the very end. Done with talk of food? Let's just say this is a loose art collective led by a composer called Haco, who were concerned with taking musical plurality and splicing disparate elements together to create a kind of friendly Frankenstein's monster of sound.

And friendly it definitely is. Considered a true one-off of Japanese pop-art rock-avant garde, Paradise of Replica is jaunty, it's amusing, it's beguiling and, ultimately, incredibly immersive. There are moments where the clash of pianos plucked straight from a comedy of manners opera and rough electric guitars (to give one example of the juxtapositions) feel rather strange, but it doesn't take too long for you to get sucked right into the centre of this insane sonic universe.

While the band would reform in 2007 for a series of Japanese shows, later released as the Shibuya Nights live album in 2011, followed by a subsequent 2012 tour, Momentum marks their first collection of newly crafted material in the 21st century. Review: Swedish progressive rockers Agusa deliver four new odysseys, implicitly inspired by the four classical elements: earth, water, air, and fire. Skillful musicianship, intricate arrangements, and improvisational flair all combine to create an organic, developed sound evoking the natural world, as well as cycles of death, decay, rebirth and growth inherent to the mortal coil. Though, in contrast to usual pastoral idylls assocated with natural processes, Agusa are unafraid of drawing parallels between nature and danger, embarking on rampant freakouts and sublime thrashings. Indeed, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and avalanches are part of the natural world too. A great addition to the band's already monumental catalogue.

Review: When Air's Moon Safari first landed on terra firma in 1997, it was a revelation that flipped the French touch boom on its head. Swapping discoid thrust for sensual lounge, Nicolas Jean Godin and Jean-Benoit Dunckel kept a certain sophisticated nostalgia in their sound which tracked with their compatriots, but they absolutely weaved their own spell with it. The hits caught on for good reason, from the dirty grind of 'Sexy Boy' to the swooning romanticism of 'All I Need' featuring Beth Hirsch on vocals, but the moments in between merely added to the spectacle, lodging Air in the hearts and minds of a whole generation. This special anniversary edition adds a second disc of B-sides, remixes and session tracks, plus a Blu-ray disc featuring the iconic videos and a documentary from the Moon Safari era.

Review: RECOMMENDED
It was two in two for Alabama Shakes when they first unveiled this bonafide swamp rock masterpiece. Released in 2015, Sound & Color took the blueprint laid out with Boys & Girls and then kicked up into fifth gear. It's soul. It's blues. It's sweat-soaked funk. Most importantly, though, it's the kind of record that keeps giving the more you listen, sounding equally at home in the 1950s as it does the 2010s.

It's hard to really put into words the level of husky, pained, heart-on-sleeve musicality at the core of this record. Brittany Howard's voice might never again sound as utterly distraught and reflective, pained and somehow filled with hope for a brighter day. Individual readings aside, this is among the finest blues records to land this century, and ranks up there with some of the greats of the 20th, so don't sleep on this edition complete with closing tracks recorded live at the legendary Capitol Studios.
