Review: There's no denying that Dubnobasswithmyheadman was a landmark electronic album. It marked Underworld's progression from electro-pop also-rans to festival headling techno titans, thanks in no small part to the addition of DJ/producer Darren Emerson to the line-up. This 20th anniversary box set gives the album the treatment it deserves, with a fully re-mastered version of the album being joined by four bonus CDs. While two of these discs feature previously heard material - one disc of singles from the period, another of lesser-known remixes - the other two are of more historical interest. Disc four is particularly illuminating, boasting as it does a swathe of unreleased recordings and demos from the period (including early versions of "Dark & Long" and "Mmm Skyscraper I Love You"), while the final disc presents a live rehearsal recorded in the band's home studio in 1993.

Review: For a band that have - over the course of their five studio albums - always been known for a level of complexity, Tool's most eagerly awaited record yet, taking no less than 13 years to materialise, is staggering in its depth. Worth the wait, and then some, those looking for wherever progressive rock genius has been hiding can consider the search over. We've found it. There's just so much happening here. "Pneuma" may be the trophy piece, its beautiful chords spiralling into sinister refrains and choruses. "Descending" grows its way from ambient opening to powerhouse guitars. "Chocolate Chip Trip", something of a curveball, introduces noodling improv-sounding sections to the melting pot. An epic in all ways of looking at things, although one that's remarkably easy to consume, "Fear Inoculum" marks the reawakening of giants with a score that will make anyone walk proud.

Review: Toby Amies' documentary In The Court Of The Crimson King takes a deep look at one of the true totems of British prog rock, King Crimson. As the band notches up half a century of existence, this portrait of Robert Fripp and assorted collaborators is one of those rare rock films which has an appeal beyond the die-hard fanbase. However, for the fans there is still a lot to savour, and this extensive box set is the best way to do it. Alongside the actual film there is an abundance of additional footage, two full live performances and exclusive music which is all spread over four CDs. If you love King Crimson, this is the box set for you.

Review: Long-serving progressive jazz bassist, poet and bandleader William Parker has enjoyed a long and fruitful career, with many within free-jazz considering him to be a true great of the style. Even so, he's never recorded or released anything this ambitious before: a vast box set containing no less than 10 brand-new, previously unheard albums, all of which were composed and recorded between 2018 and 2020 and have women's voices at their core. It's hugely ambitious, not least because the various suites that make up the 10 albums vary in tone and style, mix free improvisation with more considered compositions, and make use of musical sounds from all four corners of the world, as well as extended solo works for piano and voice. It's a staggering achievement all told.
