Review: Tommy Largo is a big deal in the world of jacking house and here he lands on Greenhouse Recordings with plenty of evidence to support that. His sound comes steeped with Southern influences on opener 'BBQ Ribs' with its noodling jazz chords and spoken word mutterings making for a lively atmosphere over funky beats. The Jam Funk Remix has a Chicago bump to it with the jazzy keys left in place over well-swung drums. 'On No Not Again' hints at new jack swing with its steamy sax lines and effortlessly catchy groove before 'BBQ Ribs' (Oddphonic remix) closes out with the deepest sound of the lot, perfect for when the sun has gone down and the party heads indoors.

Review: The ever-playful and seriously skilled mash-up and edit maestro The Reflex has been out in a class of one for many years. Few in his field managed to cook up the sort of delicious disco brilliance that he manages and this new 12" on the fledgling Discolidays isn't going to change that perception. 'Overture' (The Reflex Revision) is a glorious fusion of instrumental disco and withering sci-fi designs next to a catchy as hell vocal. On the flip, things head south with Latin melodies and percussion and glorious flute lines bring the joy to 'O Ba Ba' (The Reflex Revision).

Review: Dominik Marz and Radial Gaze are known groove driven sounds embellished with smart percussion, and that is just what they serve up here for Urge To Dance. Their collaborative 'Shintu' EP opens with 'Shintu', a party starter thanks to its ever more wild synth leads and chunky drum loops. 'Arkao' is another mix of bright synth theatrics with tightly sequenced arpeggios, subtle acid lines and elastic drums. It comes with the dazzling original version complete with silky Italo arps and chilly retro drum machine sounds and also an instrumental, plus the usual remixes from Flemming Dalum on the flip. He extends the breaks and makes the tune a little more suited to contemporary DJ play.

Review: Akin Nathan's Ijama is one of those rather mythical artists that related just one album, but an album that has endured through time and remains a classic to this day. It was a band formed from Akin Nathaniel, Big John Oaikhena, Didi Lead, Frankie Ntoh Song, Geoffrey Omadehbo, Johnny Woode and Yakubu Daniel and their 'Sweet Country' came in 1982 in their native Nigeria. Review: Electric Mojo is an American label that is decided to reissue plenty of the golden oldies of techno, big euro-dance hits and plenty of French and filter house gems, which is exactly what we have on this latest instalment. TB's version of 'So Much Love To Give' opens up and it is a huge wall of pixelated synth sounds that fizzes over you like breaking waves as the loopy vocal rings out for all the sing back. On the flip side you find DJ F's 'Together' which is less intense in its loops but just as infectious - the cold drums, warmer vocal loops and endlessly cycling synths will all work any dancefloor into a lather.

Review: The first offering from Personality Edits got plenty of plaudits so we're glad Harri Pierson now goes to work adding his own tweaks to a primitive house jam. 'Work That Boogie' has whistles and jacked-up drums, razor-sharp hi-hats and corrugated bass, all of which serve to get the floor in a sweat. Review: Mystique is a brand new label out of the always fertile Dutch scene and it opens its account with a no holds-barred EP from Sylvester Javier, aka Stefano Curti of Vibraphone fame. He offers three originals and two versions starting with 'Secret Ceremonies' (Italo Disco mix) which is a pulsating house cut awash with plenty of across textures and percussion. The Cocorico mix has shimmering vocal sounds stitched into the arrangement and the original has a spooky, rather eerie feel with its hurried drums and squirrelling synths. 'Lost In 1st Avenue Loop' is a gritty Detroit house cut with heart of the dance floor intensity and 'Microdot' gets as twisted as you would expect of such a track title. A fine debut EP overall.

'Toss It' is, like the artist herself, inspired by the Black, queer roots of house music and it come with lashings of disco energy, smoky vocals and glossy chords as well as a catchy pop riff that emplores you to set yourself free. Review: This is one of those disco holy grails that doesn't even need to convince you of its worth, and its no surprise original copies have been so coveted for so long. Chicago's Magic Touch label was a low key affair, but jams like this ensure its impact remains strong to this day as LaJohn and Sheela lay down the feeling in no uncertain terms. 'Too Far Gone' is a smouldering, bittersweet track which deserves to reach as many soulful heads as possible, so this tasty remaster courtesy of Numero couldn't come soon enough.

Review: John Devecchi's AKA The Owl takes flight once again here on his self titled label's tenth outing. Once again it is a head turning mix of disco and funk that carries on where his superb Concrete Funk album from 2021 left off. These are beefy cuts with authentic grooves, starting with the loose limbed playfulness of 'Shake It'. There is a more heavy, purposeful chug to 'Follow Me' which comes alive with lush strings and perfect soul vocals. 'Always Be There' leans into a house groove with noodling guitar riffs a la Chic and 'The Way' is a nice leggy and elastic pumper with expressive diva wails. Super stuff.

Review: Martinelli - presumably not the Brazilian one who plays in the midst of Arsenal's attack - has his classic disco gem 'Cenerentola (Cinderella)' reissued here by ZYX, a label that is well known and revered for doing just that. First up is served as an extended vocal mix that places the sentimental vocals front and centre with the sleazy sax lines also shine bight. Following the more direct Italo disco workout that is the instrumental comes a remix of the vocal that has a much more bright, tropical and steamy hot feel perfect for summer sessions and then last of all a remix of the instrumental that might be the perfect balance of everything.

Review: Styloo was a collective of musicians who turned out a handful of successful Italo disco sounds back in the genre's heyday in the eighties. Rino Facchinetti was on vocals, programming and was the founder of the band and he was joined by Tullio Colombo on vocals and guitar and Alberto Signorini with more keys. Pretty Face was their compelling debut outing on Hoel Records back in 1983 and it has been reissued to mark its 40th anniversary. It's a perfect Eurodance and Italo fusion with drums and synths very much redolent of the 80s all characterising the cut next to the flamboyant and camp vocal turns.

Review: A magnificent cover for a magnificent record here from Blair, aka the guitarist and songwriter Barney 'Blair' Perry, who was active in the 70s as a 20 something year old. His lavish disco and soul sounds have become hugely sought after - not least his 'Nightlife' classic. Review: These superb and ongoing Cosmic Disco Machine compilations have provided us with endless amounts of starry-eyed dance floor goodness. The seventh volume is another one packed with goodies from across the 70s and 80s. Logic System's 'Clash (Chinjyu Of Sun)' starts in lush fashion with plenty of shiny arps and mid-tempo drum funk. Barbara Norris's 'It's Heavy!' is indeed, with frazzled bass and thudding kick making for a fine ride while Clive Stevens & Brainchild twist melons with the warped lines and celestial vocal charms of 'Mystery Man' (remix). Review: The UB's bring their particular brand of funk to this steamy and fiery new 7" on the Fraternity label. It finds them in edit mode and first up reworking 'Stone Fox Chase'. It has some country-style harmonica built into the raw beats and plenty of psyched-out guitar lines that bring Americana vibes to the percolating rhythms. Review: Sun Explosion is an album by Manu Dibango that is the latest reissue from Soul Makossa after it was first put out in 2016. Dibango is legendary musician from Cameron who was celebrated for his versatility - he could do it all from jazz to funk to soul, blues to electro to reggae. He was trained in classical piano and formed his own band in the mid 60s before moving to Paris in 1965, where he recorded several albums. The six tracks here are all lengthy pieces that take in various styles from Afro boogie jazz to Soukouss beats via catchy Afro soul and funk It's superb album from a notable talent.

Review: God bless XL Recordings. The UK label has been at the forefront of boundary pushing music since its inception, and almost 35 years remains a seal of quality. A constant source of inspiring surprises and new sonic experiences. The kind of organisation that will take a punt on British polymath Jai Paul's demo album, which, by all accounts, is pretty hard to describe, let alone define. More so, the type of team that would, eight years earlier, support and release one of the artist's earliest songs, 'BTSTU'. Coming full circle, that tune closes this collection of stuff produced around the same time, all of which was going to form the debut album, Bait Ones. One low-quality CD-R of the work stolen and then leaked online later, and the artist stepped away from music until the end of the last decade, when this "perfectly imperfect" LP was finally allowed to see the light of day. A lo fi, glitchy, trippy, granular, sexy sound that owes as much to hip hop, pop and r&b as experimental noise, ambient dub, and electronic soul.

They offer up three different versions of 'Para Siempre' that are all suited to sunset sessions on the beach. The tune features Florencia and first comes as an Italo Balearic vocal mix which is doused in lush synths and has steady bass rumbles below the rich chords. Review: This is a long overdue reissue of a lovely feel-good soul number from Sonja Richard. It is her one and only listed release on Discogs and landed back in 1987 on the Rock The House Records label. Why she didn't do more off the back of this one is anyone's guess but we wish she had: it's a lovely laid-back vibe with 80s electronic disco production, buffed metal chords, and naive melodies. As well as the standout original the flipside has a fine version that offers a slightly different look. A real must own for soul lovers.

Review: Collignon brings some real class to this new one on Bongo Joe Records. It is a tidy two-track 45rpm that is best described as psychedelic tropical. Review: Narco Marco returns to Pace In Stereo for more adventures through yesterday's tomorrow. As ever, the production is incredible, offering two tracks that pack a timeless sound informed by Italo, early electro-pop, cold and synth wave, a twin delight that somehow serves as the ideal home or headphone listen, yet is also dance floor ready and primed for proper parties. Starting on the slowest, tempo wise, 'Bald Tag' doesn't exactly owe a debt to Kraftwerk but certainly offers a place for sounds could have evolved in the back catalogue of the German pioneers. It's a weird and warbling, stepping, highly musical ride. 'Ice Tea', meanwhile, opts to get more of a stomp on, glittering harmonies painting stars in the sky above, vocals swapped out for more melodic depth.

Review: It's always a good day when Al Kent is back with new music. This one on Gamm, Welcome To The Dub, finds him dubbing out some lush disco sounds. The title cut is a loopy and jazz-funk-infused number with lovely hi-hats and noodling chords all radiating joy and uplifting energy. 'Dubanova' then takes a more low-slung route with a sleazy guitar riff and nice live drums embellished with smartly overdubbed vocals coated in echo. Review: As well as his prog rock god status as part of ELP, English musician Keith Emerson is well known for his soundtracks for the likes of Dario Argento's 1980 movie Inferno. This Murderock album was written in part as a tribute to the master of Italian horror Lucio Fulci and was first released in 1985, described at the time as being like Flashdance meets Psycho. It's a mix of dance tunes for the day and some dramatic scores and was first reissued in 1993. This version adds four never before released tunes which were used in the backing to the most macabre scenes of the movie.

Review: There is a ton of excellent disco edits dropping right now, and whether that is a fluke or because we all love to hear some big and life-affirming sounds when it comes to the Christmas party season we cannot be sure. This 12" from Ri Edito is a second volume from the in-house production team and it's a steamy one. 'Al Dancing' is full of sensuous whispered vocals and yacht rock cool, then 'Imprevedibile' rides another sunny beat with soaring strings. 'La Rosa' then keeps it funky and lavish thanks to more synth strings and gentle keys. 'Vaiaccaga' closes out with a weird vocal that is heavily filtered and sounds multi-lingual.

Review: Hello to new label I Love Your Edits which is to tap into a rich tradition of tweaking disco gems from days gone by in order to bring them up to date and make them that bit more suited to modern dancefloors. Austin Ato takes care of the first outing and starts with the hard-hitting disco house rawness of 'Bertha' which is a grinding and loopy cut that never quits. 'Been So Good' then brings some funky vocal work and neat guitar riffs and 'Love Explosion' is a classic you will likely already know with its soaring strings. 'Cleo' shuts down with a more funky and jazz-tinged sound.

Review: Londoner Cody Currie is a master of dusty and loveably rough-edged house music that is packed with emotional heat. He serves up another fine EP of just that here on Razor-N-Tape and soon wins you over with the synth-laced house funk of opener 'Evernight' (feat Stee Downs & Mik). 'Yes Bruv' (feat Mik) has a more low-slung and late-night deep house sound and then things take a jazzy and broken beat direction on the lounge vibes of 'Holding On' (feat Marlena Dae). On the flip side is the hip-swinging goodness of Vincenzo's remix of 'Everynight' amongst other timeless sounds.

Review: The legendary Game label is pure bait for dancers. Whether serving up disco, hip-hop, Latin or funk it knows how to hit the perfect sweet spot that brings everyone together. DJ Monchan is next up with this tasteful two-track 12". It starts with the low-slung and dubbed-out disco-house loops of 'Love Me' which is topped with a short, simple but sensuous vocal hook. On the flip is 'U&me' which brings some li-fi crackle and funky jazz licks over rolling and warming drums. A real early evening classic, for sure.

Review: Galaxy Sound Co. hits 40 releases deep with yet another buy-on-sight 7". This latest entry into the Sample Series kicks off with an edit of 'Lovely Is Today' by Eddie Harris from his 1968 album Plug Me In. It's steeped in delightfully conversational saxophone with rousing chords dancing beneath in a swinging 60s fashion. A real classy gem. On the flip, 'September 13' by Deodato gets reworked and is from his self-titled jazz-funk album. This one is more funky and it's led by some big, proud horn stabs and silky drum rumbles enriched with great synths. Another vital 45 from this fine label.

Review: Since 2019, Nairo "Papik" Poggi has served up a trio of Cocktail Italy albums, all of which make use of an impressive variety of (mostly) Italian musicians and vocalists. Volume Four sticks to the same script as its predecessors, serving up sun-flecked, often soulful treats that variously mix and match elements of classic string-laden jazz, soul-jazz, jazz-funk, P-funk, bossa-nova and Latin jazz. Basically, it's music to enjoy while sat somewhere hot (either in the sunshine or by a roaring fire) with a glass of something tasty and refreshing in hand. Highlights include the revivalist disco-soul of 'Primavera (featuring Nadyne Rush)', synth-laden Danny Losito hook-up 'Prima di Andare Via', mid-80s Italo-disco-goes-jazz number 'Notti (featuring Anna Fondi) and superbly summery dancefloor workout 'Ti Sento (featuring Vittoria Siggillino)'.

They amassed a fine catalogue of great hits that made an impact across 28 countries and earned them four platinum discs and nine gold discs amongst other accolades. No Music No Life has now remastered The Very Best Of Imagination which offers up their most well-known hits such as the irresistible 'Body Talk' and slow motion workout that is 'Flashback' amongst many more.

Review: Dee D. Jackson's Cosmic Curves is an album that was originally released in 1978 and has been reissued a couple of times since. It might well be best known for the open track, 'Automatic Lover', which became a chart-topping hit across Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, Argentina, the Republic of South Africa and others. Listening back now it is primo Euro-disco dance tackle with rugged synth arrows and soaring vocals up top, and the rest of the album pretty much follows that same template.

Review: Marcella Bella's 1983 album 'Nell'Aria' which translates as In The Air is a real gem amongst many in the Italo disco scene of its time. It pairs her own sensuality with evocative disco arrangements and plenty of big tunes like the title track but also the shimmering 80s synths and sentimental vocals of 'La Battaglia'. Bella is the sister of Gianni with whom she often collaborates and is bother of Antonio and Saretto. She released an incredible 28 albums and this is easily the most well known.

Review: We're big fans of what the Whiskey Pickle label has been doing over the course of its first few releases. This 10th outing from Silver City is another case a point. Across four fine cuts, it explores deep house and Balearic sounds with real heart. 'Atalaya' opens with dreamy and shiny synths up top sprinkling in some subtle cosmic energy and 'Nomad' then gets more down and dirty. 'Before' again casts you adrift under starry skies on a warm summer's night and 'Calisto' is for when the lights go down and the dancefloor is where you want to be.
