Track 1
Track 2
Track 3
Review: Australian blog Disco Delicious has already dipped it's toes into the record label waters with the launch of Death Strobe last year and it's a label you should check, not least because Erol Alkan was dropping tracks from their second release during his recent Antipodean tour. The obvious passion for music demonstrated on the website should also ensure that the quality delivered on this twelve from Joystick Jay, the debut release on their new edit label is retained for future drops. Rich in an international flavour all too absent from the majority of edit releases these days, the Danish producer digs up a mind bogglingly good Fela Kuti rarity on the A Side, whilst the B Side holds a smooth South American disco yacht jam infused with subtle filtration and a delightfully soothing African communal track. Recommended for those who like to veer off the beaten track.

Spiral
Get Here
Review: Deep house producer Frank Booker is no stranger to the re-edit game, having previously released a couple of killer 12" singles of scalpel works on Razor 'N' Tape and KAT. Here he pitches up on Dicky Trisco's long-running Disco Deviance imprint with a couple more peaktime treats. Opener "Spiral" reworks an electric-piano and vibraphone heavy instrumental disco killer, stretching it out and emphasizing the touchy-feely elements of the original. Flipside "Get Here" is a little chunkier, utilising dubwise effects to tweak and stretch out a slamming jam defined by its' excellent walking bassline. Great edits are getting harder to come by; thankfully, these are both superb.

Deputy Of Love (8:37)
You Make Me Feel Good (3:45)
Hot Shot (6:14)
Watch Yourself (5:27)
Review: It's been a wee while since the last Kat edits outing - some six months, in fact - but this 12" has been worth the wait. Put together by Chicagoan scalpel maestro Cratebug, it brilliantly touches on a variety of styles in a typically Windy City way (think raw, percussive, and touched by the relentless sweatiness of original jackin' house). Highlights are plentiful, from the metallic percussion and alien electronics of proto-house cut-up "What You Say", to the rolling Latin house percussion and urgent vocal cut-ups of "You Make Me Feel Good". Best of all, though, is "Hot Shot", a brilliantly rubbery disco stomper that sounds like a classic Rahaan rework.

On The Way (Mr Mendel edit) (5:57)
Higher (Mr Mendel edit) (6:43)
Review: Amsterdam's smoothest boogie operator Mendel follows up a string of well-received edits on Basic Fingers, Lumberjacks In Hell and Street Edits with a debut on Disco Deviance. "On The Way" is a furiously funky case of looped up momentum that teases more and more before culminating in a big key crescendo. "Higher" plays the same game but with original disco source material where a juicy bassline underpins larger than life gospel-level soul vocals. Chicago in their construction, New York in their delivery, these are two Mendel's best edits to date.

World Of Make Believe (Frank Booker edit) (5:39)
Sequence Of Movement (Frank Booker edit) (6:51)
Review: Frank Booker returns for his second outing on the evergreen Disco Deviance label offering up another pair of glorious disco reinventions seen through a raver's eye. "World Of Make Believe" is a fancy, down the line disco churner with plenty of strings, a hard punch, and a fabulous but of vocal riding over those kick drums; "Sequence Of Movement", instead, is all funky and down on the floor, boasting a sublimely phased out guitar serving as one mighty, groovy, delicious bassline. Yes please Frank.

Sweet Caress (Otherlover edit) (10:04)
Live & Let Live (Otherlover edit) (6:52)
Review: The Revenge man Graeme Clarke dons his OTherlover guise for cheekier edit adventures on Disco Deviance. "Sweet Caress" is a thumping, snaking, twisting jam that builds with dynamic orchestration that has all the dramatic hallmarks of Whitfield and Strong. "Live & Let Live", meanwhile takes Charles Earland's "Coming To You Live" and adds a funkier cosmic sheen by way of synth overlays, filters, crowd noises and cheeky reverse flexes. Otherlovely, more like!

Son Of The Sun (4:21)
Jungle Melody (5:49)
Fool Like A Child (5:59)
Review: Moscow's Arsenii is up next on New York City edits imprint Razor N Tape. Following up the great Allegria on Basic Fingers last year, he's back with some more obscure oddities spliced to perfection once again. He takes the razor to "Son of the Sun," which the label themselves describe as "the Shaft-in-outer-space drama" (and we agree completely) to the 'proto-balearic lilt' of "Jungle Melody" by Pierre Dalmon and of course the big band funk of "Fool Like A Child"; more commonly known to some as Christian Gaubert's "Sweet And Fool Like A Child" from 1979.

Chitty Disco (edit) (7:07)
Portonic Por Favor (edit) (6:11)
Review: Brazilian scalpel fiend Selvagem has been on fine form in recent times, delivering essential EPs for Disco Halal, B.I.S (Beats In Space's lesser-known re-edit offshoot), and Barefoot Beats. Given this impressive track record, it's little surprise to see him starring on Dicky Trisco's long-running Disco Deviance label. "Chitty Disco" is a grunting, throbbing, horn-heavy delight, with Selvagem successfully beefing up the bottom-end whilst retaining the original's natural swing. Flipside "Pontonic Por Favor" is an altogether more South American flavoured treat, with lazy tumpet lines tumbling down over carnival-ready disco beats and a slick, synth-heavy groove. There are occasional chanted vocals, too, which should have the more enthusiastic dancers singing along on the dancefloor.

Escravos De Jo (9:52)
Nana Love Dub (7:45)
Review: Preston's Cottam continues on his winning streak, following up great releases recently on Versatile, his eponymous imprint and the impressive Ruff Draft edits series. Following on in the style of the latter, Ele Records "is dedicated to sourcing and sharing dusty, sample based music inspired by the rich soundscape of early hip hop and house productions." Cottam's trademark sample based house is back on this release. Delving into his box of records to produce some sample heavy cuts, slowed down to a sexy shuffling groove. On the A side is an edit of Dom Um Romao's legendary "Escravos de Jo" from 1976, first popularized by Joe Claussell and Kerri Chandler at the turn of the millennium. On the flip is an edit of Nena Love, a London-based singer of Ghanaian origin most renowned for her 1978 album Disco Documentary: where "I'm In Love" originally appeared. Cottam's edit distilling the groove into is raw element and its real saucy!

Red Sharon - "Handle It" (JKriv RNT dub) (8:48)
Marashal - "Socket Rockin" (JKriv RNT edit) (8:16)
Review: The UK's Kat is back with yet more tasteful edits of forgotten gems. From disco to house, folk to funk and balearic nuggets: these guys know the score. This time around it's over to New York City's Jason Kriveloff aka Jkriv, who works that magic razor once again on these wonderful re-edits. On the A side we've got Red Sharon (see what he did there?) with "Handle It" (JKriv RNT dub) which takes a right diggers delight into sultry, late night territory and sure to burn up any dancefloor. On the flip is Marashal (oh come on already!) with "Socket Rockin". No guesses what's going on here but just for the record: it is one funky and soul filled celebration and most of all, a respectful edit.

Super Sexy (6:37)
Tudao (6:14)
Review: Renata Do Valle's Hello Sailor arrives fashionably late to the 2017 party with two divine edits from Brazilian tradesmen Fatnotronic and Joutro Mundo. Both primed for the summer soirees, their timing is exquisite. Fatnotronic continue the theme they set on Razor N Tape with a silky, sultry, unhurried boogie stroll into the dusk while Joutro Mundo lower the tempo just a smidge for a slinkier sleazier workout with slapbass galore. Party on.

People (6:37)
Piaui (6:21)
Burning Love (8:19)
Review: Here's the latest Sirisounds Recordings edit EP by Lovebirds aka veteran producer Sebastian Doering, swiped straight from the beaches of Bali and dancefloor tested (when still allowed, of course) - finally seeing the light of day. On the A side, we have a deep yet funked-up version of a rather stylistic classic on 'People', followed by the sensual and sweltering latin vibe of 'Piaui'. The B-side deservedly belongs to the life-affirming soul power of 'Burning Love' which you could easily imagine dancing wildly to at a tropical sundown on a balmy summer night.

Saturday Night Dance (6:34)
Delfo's Check (5:59)
All Is Africa (6:08)
I'm Away (6:41)
Review: Oye Records founder Markus "Delfonic" Lindner is a real crate digger, disco don and edit maestro. He has released on the likes of Razor N Tape and Toy Toye and now comes through with four more floor ready classics on the Nomada label. 'Saturday Night Dance' is exactly that - a nice loose number with an ass shaking rhythm section and plenty of colourful synths to get you up on your toes. There is also a slightly deeper, funk fuelled gem in the form of 'Delfo's Check' and then 'All Is Africa', a languid afro funk affair with an old school hip hop vocal over the top before the highlife vibes come to the fore on the summery and infectious 'I'm Away.'

Deep House
Anikulapo (11:54)
Oladipo (5:04)
Livinus (6:29)
Review: Neighboursoul Rhythm is a new label out of Germany that kicks off with some gold standard edits from Felipe Gordon. Fela Kuti's 'Opposite People' is first up and the afro legend's vocals ride proudly above a melee of horns, drums and keys that overflow with vitality. Tony Allen - who famously played drums with Kuti - is then the subject of the second cut, 'Oladipo', which is just as full flavour and alive, with big wind stabs and jumbled beats and perc. Last of all, Livy Ekemezie's 'Holiday Action' gets edited and renamed 'Livinus'. The funky bass riffs are the standout aspect of this one, which is rump-wiggling afro disco of the highest order.
