Review: The expansive box set celebrating The Salsoul Orchestra's groundbreaking albums, meticulously curated and remastered, is a must-have for any disco aficionado. Boasting 103 tracks across six albums, including collaborations with icons like Carol Williams and Charo, it encapsulates the essence of the legendary Salsoul sound. The inclusion of rare tracks from The Salsoul Strings and remixes by esteemed producers adds depth and variety to the collection, ensuring there's something for every disco lover. Review: It may come with an eyebrow-raising price tag, but what's on offer here is undeniably alluring: a box set of 10 seven-inch singles containing all of the songs from Louie Vega's brilliant Expansions In The NYC album - an all-star affair in which the Masters at Work man celebrated his love of New York disco, boogie and house. The album itself is incredible, with fantastic musicianship, arrangements and vocals, while the cast list - which includes original electrofunk outfit Unlimited Touch, Peech Boys main man Bernard Fowler, Honey Dijon, Cindy Mazelle, Moodymann, Kerri Chandler and his son Nico - is similarly impressive. It's a great product, packed with brilliant music: a fitting finale to this portion of the ongping 'Expansions NYC' project.

Review: ZYX's Italo Disco romance has been on going on for many years and across several key compilations. The biggest of them all was this one from 1989 which comes across four slabs of wax (or four CDs, if you prefer) and with a bumper tracklist featuring all the most vital names. Plenty of the formative years sounds are here to check out - many of which went on to be championed by DJs like Ron Hardy and the Hot Mix 5 in the early days of house. Doctor's Cat 'Feel The Drive' is a perennial favourite as is he pop tinged 'Dolce Vita' from Ryan Paris, and the exotic synth sounds of Lee Marrow's 'Shanghai', while Joe Yellow's electro on 'Lover to Lover' sure is infectious.

Review: If you ever need to demonstrate the queer foundations of dance music, just reach for this authoritative compilation - case closed. Demon Music Group have gathered together a mighty 24 tracks of seminal hi-nrg, synth-pop, proto house, Eurobeat and more besides to paint a picture of the vibrant culture which set the tone for house and techno to come. There are some monster hits in this four-vinyl set including Whitney Houston's 'Love Will Save The Day', Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Relax' and Dead or Alive's 'You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)', all presented in their finest extended mix forms. There's also more than enough deep cuts to satisfy the more seasoned diggers out there and the artwork is on point, making this a fitting tribute to the 80s gay nightlife which incubated a new kind of dance music.

Review: Canadian soul and boogie man Goldie Alexander dropped his most well-known hit 'Knocking Down Love' in 1981 on the TGO label. It now lends its name to this longer collection of his work which takes in all the tracks off his one and only studio album - 1983's Fool In Love - as well as various different club and dub mixes of those tunes. It makes for a heartwarming mix of disco, electronic grooves and smoochy soul sounds with Goldie's, well, golden, tones front and centre. A great one to have for more intimate dancefloor moments.

Review: Louie Vega remains a towering presence in house music 30+ years after making his early mark. As a solo artist, he deals in soulful, Latin-tinged and musical house sounds that are lavish in arrangement and often made with real instrumentals. The Vega boss now serves up a bumper collection of previously unreleased tunes across no fewer than ten sides of vinyl. There are collaborations, remixes, demos, dubs and reworks along the way and the range in impressive - from deep and triable joints to shuffling samba sounds and back again, this is a vital collection from a real house master.

Review: With a streak of hits reaching back to the early 90s, chart-topping Brit funk phenomenon Jamiroquai have plenty to celebrate. In 2006 they decided to remind everyone how much heat they've gifted to the world with High Times, a definitive overview of the singles that thrust them onto prime time radio and beyond. Now that compilation makes its way to vinyl for the first time, giving us the chance to spin such classics as 'Too Young To Die', 'Virtual Insanity' and 'Canned Heat' to our hearts content - all killer, no filler. This edition has been pressed up on green marbled vinyl and comes with insert and a slipmat, making it a must-have for collectors and die-hard fans alike.

Review: Here's something to set the hearts of all electronic experimentalists a-flutter: a fresh album of experiments on the ground-breaking, ultra-rare EMS Synthi 100 - a hybrid analogue/digital synthesizer first unveiled in 1971 - by Soulwax brothers (and Deewee founders) David and Stephen Dewaele. There's an accompanying 48 page booklet that tells the story of the synth (and in particular the unit the Dewaele brothers used, which is owned by Ghent University), but the headline attraction is undoubtedly the music: a set of undulating electronic movements that slowly tease out interlocked modular melodies, pulsating motifs and even discernible basslines. Sitting somewhere between Terry Riley's synthesizer-based works, Tangerine Dream and the Radiophonic Workshop, it's a gloriously vibrant collection that brilliantly showcases a machine that remains ahead of its time.

Review: House legend Danny Krivit is back on our charts with this uber-lush compilation pack that was originally put together for RSD 2018 but that, thankfully, we managed to secure a few copies for you on here! The pack comes in the form of his alias, Mr. K, and you'll seriously struggle to find better, more well-produced edits than these. Called The Funk Box, there is nothing on here you won't enjoy if you're a fan of soul, with most of Krivit's edits leaving enough space for the original to flourish while still pushing it far enough onto the middle of the dancefloor. And that's exactly it - if Mr. K touches one of your tunes, it will become danceable.

Review: Charlie Kingue Soppo, known simply as Charly Kingson, is a legend of afro-funk who managed to shake the entire continent up with his infamous 1978 LP, Born In Africa. Often forgotten when conversations turn to Afro-dance, and the likes of Tony Allen or Fela Kuti, he has been an incredible source of inspiration to many musicians exploring the funkier side of jazz-dance, and this album itself goes way beyond any traditional notion of tropical discotheque. In fact, tracks like "Makakane Masu" verge on the soulful and the poppy, while "Born In African" itself is a funky groover for the dancefloor. All in all, this is an album which was dying for a re-release, and now you can enjoy it courtesy of the wonderful Africa Seven outlet. Boom!

Review: If you're going to produce a box set to celebrate your label's 25th birthday, you may as well do it in style. That was certainly Michael Reinboth's thinking when he put together this luxurious set marking a quarter of a century since the launch of his admired Compost Records imprint. It boasts no less than ten slabs of wax containing fresh remixes of catalogue cuts from a stellar cast of house, techno and disco producers (think Glenn Underground, Zenker Brothers, Francois K, Ron Trent, Moodymann, Mark E and Gerd Janson) and a handful of killer bonus cuts (most notably early Move D classic "Hurt Me"). In addition, the box also contains two mix tapes, a pin badge, bag and tons of stickers. Basically, it's a beautiful item packed full of quality music and label merchandise.

Review: Just in time for Christmas comes this deluxe celebration of the career of Nigerian mystery man William Onyeabor. Intetest in the born-again Christian's output has been high since the release of last year's superb Who Is William Onyearbor? compilation and documentary. This simply titled nine-CD box set gathers together material from his nine album releases (eight studio albums, plus an alternate version of 1977 debut Crashes In Love), telling the story of his unusual career in full. An accompanying booklet fleshes out the story further, while retaining the mystique that's long accompanied his exotic, Moog-heavy take on African pop and dance music. For those with a passion for African music, it should be an essential purchase.

Review: Minneapolis collective Food Pyramid return for a second release on the Disco Capablancas label and this one really is the personification of limited! A pressing of just fifty records exists and each come with hand painted artwork from Disco Capablancas compadre Andreas Golder, with the Berlin-based painter and sculptor adding his signature to each (it's probably for the best there are only 50 as Golder would have contracted Carpal Tunnel Syndrome otherwise!)In terms of musical content, Food Pyramid are on top form with "Knossos" as layer upon layer of hypnotic synthesis spill out of the grooves and it's easy to see why label and artist plumped for Gavin Russom for remix duties. The DFA's White Wizard turns in a trademark remix that turns an already psychedelically potent track into a motorik techno beast of spell binding proportions.

Review: What a decade 1970-1980 was for French music! Featuring well-known Gaelic cosmic pioneers such as Serge Gainsbourg and Jean Michel Jarre and slightly less prolific space cadets such as The Atomic Crocus and Quartz, this is an immaculate document that celebrates and applauds some of the most influential music to have emerged in Europe during the 70s. Listen to tracks such as Space's "Magic Fly" or Pierre Bachelet's "Motel Show" and you'll hear three decades of disco and synth music that followed. Immaculately compiled and presented, this is one history lesson everyone would benefit from digesting. Bon Voyage!

I:Cube - "Procession"
Anthony Watson - "I Can't Stop This Feeling"
Review: Having signalled the end of their Originals series in fine fettle with a wonderful selection from the New York based producer and selector Alex from Tokyo, Claremont 56 send out the end product of what must be one of the most onerous tasks in recent years. This rather dashing 5xLP box set house two tracks a side from each of the ten Originals compilations issued since the series commenced back in 2008. Aside from the sticky issues of actually legally licensing these tracks for a vinyl release, there's also the factor of having to whittle out just two songs from each of the compilations. Regardless, Paul Mudd Murphy has done a splendid job with inclusions such as Donna McGhee's superb disco cut from the Rong Music volume or the undervalued Anthony Watson gem from the final installment getting the approval of the Juno review team.

Review: Massive in Memphis but criminally under-known elsewhere, Lee Moore's work behind the scenes with a cornucopia of Stax talents lasted over a decade and saw him develop a variety of alter-egos and side projects on Score and LM Records. Here Past Due bring together his finest and most rare, all re-imagined and remastered across five stacked 12"s. From the Chic-level disco momentum of his First Family affairs, the synthetic experimental sounds of Alien to the sprightly p-funk odysseys under his own name and the 80s electro boogie of Le Gamby, Moore's party portfolio is about to be celebrated and respected in the way it always should have been. Trust us, this is the heaviest gram you'll ever buy.

Review: Omar S presents this remastered reissue of the 1979 album by this Singaporean disco band led by Ardo Guerzo and Jeremiah Star on his revered FXHE imprint. The name of the band is an acronym of their first names respectively. They mixed disco and salsa in their hit "Classical Salsa". They covered the Ohio Players' classic hit "Sweet Sticky Thing" and they named their 1976 released album after it. Star was also in the short lived Funkgus outfit which is worth checking out, if you can find it! A true diggers delight for those that knew it seems, but now brought to a wider audience, thankfully. Originally on Baal, a UK label founded in the mid '70s by Jay Shotam of October Cherries. The original Baal label was founded in Singapore by his band in the late '60s until it became defunct in 1980.

Review: In 1980, Grace Jones turned her back on the disco scene with which she'd previously been associated and headed to Compass Point studios in Nassau. Under the supervision of legendary dub players Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, and with Wally Badarou lending a hand on keyboards, the iconic model-turned-singer recorded Warm Leatherette, an album of reggae and synth-pop-infused cover versions. This deluxe, re-mastered 4LP reissue features the original full-length on two LPS, plus two further slabs containing 12" versions and alternate reworks of classics such as "Love Is The Drug" and "Private Life". It's perhaps this, more than the hit-and-miss original album, which makes this version of Warm Leatheratte so desirable.

Review: After the success of their Who Is William Onyeabor compilation last year, Luaka Bop have curated two ultimate collections that explore every nook and cranny of the near-mythical Nigerian dynamo who self-released eight albums between 78-85 before quitting music never to discuss his work publically again. Cherry picking the best elements of every genre (even ones of the future) Onyeabor's songwriting, coupled with some deliciously creative production techniques, still sound timeless now... The cosmic harmonies of "Heaven & Hell", the twitchy ESG-style punk-funk fusion of "Good Name", the calypso croons of "Crashes In Love", the list goes on. A true celebration of a unique man in African music, both this and Box Set 1 are fascinating documents.

Review: Paul 'Mudd' Murphy has form when it comes to putting together must-have vinyl box sets. A few years back, he brought the Originals series of Balearic compilations to a close with a fine box set. Now, to celebrate the 10th birthday of his Claremont 56 label, he's put together another lavishly produced, five-vinyl set, this time made up of brand new or previously unheard material. As you'd expect, highlights come thick and fast, from the dubbed-out quirkiness of Holgar Czukay's "Music To Be Murdered By" and the rubbery electrofunk of Phil Mison's remix of FreshRo's "Pacific State", to the samba-boogie of Jex Opolis's remix of Paraiso, and deep space Balearic bliss of Leo Cecranti's "Andromeda Bound". Throw in killer reworks from Lexx, Bjorn Torske, Ron Trent, Larry Heard, Emperor Machine, and Murphy himself, and you have an essential collection.

Review: Mr. K and Most Excellent Unlimited are back with another must have motherlode of ten essential cuts on 7-inch, assembling a serious cross-section of diverse jams that were particularly popular at The Garage, majority of which appearing on 7-inch for the very first time in any form, let alone in these unique quintessential edits. Patrick Adams and Greg Carmichael production, female diva classic "Let's Get Together" backed with a previously unreleased NYC Peech Boys demo version of "Somebody Else's Guy." Tough South Bronx funk "Standing In Line". Synth epic, Krivit's classic edit of "Evolution". Disco Funk edit of Larry Levan's "Slap, Slap, Lickedy Lap". With much more in this diverse and remarkably sought after tracklist, surprises, like "Catch The Rhythm" (the only Boris Midney production regularly played at The Garage), along with Mr. K's previously Japan-only edit of Loleatta Holloway tour de force "I May Not Be There When You Want Me". Five singles impressively mastered with maximum fidelity and playability for an exclusive Record Store Day, including a bonus pair of newly designed, Mr. K seven-inch slipmats.

Review: The world has changed a lot since Junko Ohashi put out her 1984 compilation Magical. And never is that more clear than when looking at the album's front cover which depicts the twin towers still in situ in New York. Musically, though, the album is still on point for lovers of city pop, synth funk and 80s soul. It is one of the most recognised albums of the city pop genre with its sentimental chords, clean drum machine grooves and glowing synths all perfectly fitting in with the pure and innocent city pop aesthetic. The vocals are of course key tot hat - whatever Junko is singing about, she does it with the tones of an angel.

Review: Shuya Okino is a DJ, club owner, writer and producer as well as being a part of the Kyoto Jazz Massive. He is a vital figure in the Japanese club scene and has been for over three decades now. He is involved in a wide range of projects from Cosmic Village to Root Soul to Mondo Grosso but his work with brother Yoshihiro as Kyoto Jazz Massive might be his best. This new album is another standout fusion of synth, broken beat and nu-jazz styles. Some of the tunes are pure dance floor heaters such as the prickly vibes of 'Get Up Featuring Roy Ayers' while others gaze off to a cosmic future such as the gorgeous synths of 'Visions Of Tomorrow.' Essential.

Review: With a streak of hits reaching back to the early 90s, chart-topping Brit funk phenomenon Jamiroquai have got plenty to celebrate. This particular edition has been pressed up on green marbled vinyl and comes with and autographed art card, insert and a slipmat, making it a must-have for collectors and die-hard fans alike.

Review: The arrival of the Acapellas Anonymous series in the mid/late '80s was a massive gamechanger, giving immediate access to DJs and producers to hundreds of vocal samples that would have taken a fortune (and a lifetime) to collect. Edit king Mr K has rebuilt, remastered, and carefully portioned them onto a five disc set of 7-inch singles, "including all the classic vocal bits that became iconic samples," and more than a few new additions to bring things up to date. You'll know more than a few of these on first listen, others you may have never even realised were samples, but no-one will underestimate the power of a great vocal sample dropping in the right way in the right mix. An absolute essential.

Review: Louie Vega presents the third instalment of the Vega Records unreleased series with another quintuple LP of hard-hitting unreleased house bangers that span the breadth and width of everything the genre has to offer. Mr X's 'The Curse' is an industrial tribal house floor filler with jazz sections, 'World Collisions' is in a similar vein with a deeper more meditative thudding bass. Disc 2 sidesteps into a jazzy Latin lane with Tony Touch's sax-fueled 'Apaga La Luz' and 'Baza SOS Fever'. Disc 3 is a temple for disco-house, with two gospel-inspired funk-filled tracks from Honeysweet - 'Last Night Changed It All' is a particular favourite. If we are talking highlights, Josh Millan hits it out the park on "Let us Shine" with Elements Of Life; Side B with a jazz house instrumental that's the perfect comedown. Disc 5 sees a monumentous 11-minute funky jazz cut from Honeysweet with 'Being Free', paired with a soulful closer instrumental from Two Soul Fusion. House collectors would be crazy to pass this release up.

Review: As the third installment brings attention back on this crucial series, Light In The Attic are running a repress of their second voyage into the plentiful realm of Japanese city pop - another extended cruise through impossibly slick '70s and '80s groovers with that golden studio sound. There's sultry slinkers like Eiichi Ohtaki and sensual funk from Kimiko Kasai on "Vibration (Love Celebration)". Watch out for the heavy bass and subtle synth inflections of Yu Imai's incredible "Kindaichi Kosuke Nishi E Iku" and the impossibly catchy whistlealong 'Hot Sand' by Piper. It's not a competition, but if you crave that US AOR sound, it might just be that the Japanese did it better.

Review: Few electronic music producers can claim to have made quite as big an impact as Arthur Baker. During the 1980s the New Yorker was involved in creating (or mixing) a string of ground-breaking electro, freestyle and proto-house records, before becoming one of the most in-demand remixers on the planet. This vast box set, which includes six weighty slabs of vinyl and an informative insert, celebrates his legacy, offering up a mixture of pioneering productions (Afrika Bambaata and Soulsonic Force's 'Planet Rock', 'Walking On Sunshine' by Rockers Revenge, 'Confusion' by New Order), dancefloor anthems (Freez's 'I.O.U', his enormous rework of Fleetwood Mac's 'Big Love') and a string of essential but lesser-celebrated revisions - all presented in full-length, DJ-friendly form. In a word: essential.

Review: Some 40 years after its release, Japanese actor, essayist and city pop pioneer Tomoko Aran has seen an explosion of popularity thanks to none other than 80s fetishist The Weeknd sampling 'Midnight Pretenders' for his song 'Out of Time' on the award-winning 'Dawn FM' last year. Not everything is down to Abel however, Aran being a city pop staple in her own right has meant that the recent hype around retro Japanese city pop has lead to people rediscovering her back catalogue - and what a catalogue it is. Don't expect the expected on 'Floating Space' however, Aran was not someone to keep herself boxed up in one genre. 'Je Re n Ma (Dilemma)' is just one example of a total departure from what new fans may be expecting, being a pretty experimental bitty synth electro-pop track with a pretty gnarly guitar shred solo midway through - it's like if Pet Shop Boys were having a particularly manic Monday. If manic is what you want, look no further than 'HANNYA' which can only be described as a zealous tribute to Kate Bush's 'Never for Ever' - it's really wild. Don't pass up on this chance to get into Aran, a mind like this only comes by so often.

Review: Second time around for Light In The Attic's essential Pacific Breeze compilation, which arguably triggered the current obsession with vintage, post-boogie 'city pop' records from Japan. The compilation, which has now been fully remastered and comes pressed on vividly multicoloured wax, is a superb starting point for those with a passing interest in city pop and Japanese synth-pop of the late '70s and early '80s, but also boasts enough obscurities to please committed collectors too. Our favourites include the gently breezy disco of Tomoko Soroyo, the eyes-closed, solo-laden AOR of Minako Yoshida, the bonkers-but-brilliant jazz-funk of Izumi Kobayashi and the glossy, sunset synth-pop brilliance of Yasuko Agawa.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

tear in outer sleeve, otherwise in excellent condition

Shuya Okino is a DJ, club owner, writer and producer as well as being a part of the Kyoto Jazz Massive.

Review: Fierce, fabulous and more than a little fancy, Box Of Sin takes an exhaustive look at 80s gay nightlife as the driver for the evolution of dance music. Spread over five CDs, we're taken on a sweat-slicked thrill ride through hi-nrg, disco, proto house and synth-pop taking in seminal classics and deep cuts alike. There are plenty of perennial favourites contained within, from The Pointer Sisters' 'Jump (For My Love)' and Soft Cell's 'Memorabilia' through to S'Express' massive chart dance banger 'Theme From S'Express', and you can be sure the compilers have taken care to source the real deal 12" mixes that bring out the best in a track. With plenty of lesser known surprises and a frankly head-spinning amount of knockout tracks, this is an essential document of the outsized impact queer club culture had on electronic music in the 80s and early 90s.

Now he is back with his major label album Exotica featuring guests like Elderbrook, Sophie & The Giants and Lorenz Rhode. It is a big, chart friendly, pop influenced album of disco tinged house grooves. 'Loneliness' (feat Francesca Lombardo) is a particular highlight with infectious bass and cosmic keys next to an airy vocals. 'Hands To The Sky' (feat Fiorious & House Gospel Cjoir) is a tune that will have you rejoicing and celebrating life and the title track is a more peak time but still glossy disco banger.

Review: American greats Earth, Wind & Fire were very much one of their era's finest and most commercially successful bands. They define the funk, soul and disco sound of the 70s onwards and by 1998 had a huge arsenal of tunes to draw on for this, their Greatest Hits album. It came just a year after their In The Name of Love record and is packed with gold such as 'September' from 1978, 'Got to Get You Into My Life' from the same year and 'Let's Groove' from 1981 amongst many more. This version comes on limited and numbered gatefold 180-gram audiophile yellow vinyl.

Review: Indeep might have scored an all-time classic with 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life', but few people dig past the big banger to discover the other gems in their short-lived catalogue. They only put out music for a couple of years, but the fusion of Rejane Magloire, Rose Marie Ramsey and Mike Cleveland was a potent force that yielded late disco perfection from 1982 to 1984. This compilation, originally released in 1991, gathers together their strongest tracks in straight-up vocal versions, proving they were as strong as Chic or any other NYC disco group of the era.

As soon as 'Black Latex' kicks into gear you know you're in for a red-lit thrill ride that captures all the seduction and mystery of nocturnal body music played the old-skool way. The kit list features such staples as the Jupiter 8, D-50 and Mellotron, while a revolving cast of ghostly vocals impart their message in English, French and Korean. This multi-lingual vibe only serves to take us further away from familiar territory into the displaced surrealism of the sound world Desire like to call home.
