Review: Up next in the gamut of Coil-adjacent reissued gems is this 3xLP vinyl version of The Threshold Houseboys Choir's Amulet. Having gone down in whispered legend as the ultra-secret limited-quantity direct mail-order (we could go on) holy grail that flaunted Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson's then latest semi-secret solo guise, Amulet was an exemplar of Marshall McLuhan's definitive aphorism, "the medium is the message," coming housed in a hand-assembled 4xCDr mini-set enclosed in an original, circular Thai Amulet case. The second and final release of this short-lived and much coveted moniker, Amulet, now hearing the vinyl reissue it deserves, is a rough collection of obsessive ritualistic diamonds in the rough, stylistically drawing on dub, drone, power electronics and East Asian music, and brought together by Christopherson's trademark digitally generated choir - whose verbalisations are wilfully incomprehensible, with the intent to sound uncanny, dreamlike - and which he often reverses and timestretches to unsettling effect.

Review: For the last ten years Japan's reissue market has blossomed into one of the most fruitful for western listeners eager to explore very rare Japanese releases and artists from the 70s and 80s specifically. In no other genres has this been most displayed then in the new age, ambient, folk and synth realms. Alfa/Yen Records 1980-1987: Techno Pop & Other Electronic Adventures In Tokyo follows this fantastic era of passing on to a new generation. This compilation features many luminary figures in the Japanese scene with an extra emphasis of it honing in on Yellow Magic Orchestra and its members. After the popularity of similar compilations in the past five years, this looks to be one of the most successful reissues of Japanese electronic music in 2024!

Review: The legendary experimental German band Einsturzende Neubauten is back with their first album since 2020, Rampen (apm: alien pop music). Since their formation in 1980, the band his sought out to blaze their own trail in making what others would assume is noise into their own brand music. Their own music language was created and brought with them legions of followers that have added a bit of Einsturzende Neubauten's influence to their own sounds. The band has once again pushed their sound even further - alien pop music. This edition comes on yellow vinyl.

Review: Voices From The Lake is the pairing of Italian techno craftsmen and sound sculptors Donato Dozzy and Neel. They came together to do a live show at the famed Labyrinth festival in Japan and that's what gave rise to this new now seminal album. It's a deeply meditative and dubbed-out world of delicate synths and rolling drums that change only slightly and slowly but manage to keep you utterly locked in for the duration. It's pure techno that has been remastered for this new edition across eight sides of wax. An absolute modern classic for sure.

Review: This is a special black version of a sublime album from Nurse With Wound across three slabs of vinyl. The original She And Me Fall Together In Free Death originally came in 2003 and like much of Steven Stapleton's music it is not made with a specific setting or audience in mind. It takes the form of a strange concept that sees him wedding together trance-inducing Krautrock grooves with a traditional jazz standard some signature atonal musique concrete. As such it is abstract and experimental and challenging throughout.

Review: Eleven miasmic, brooding tape meditations from the legendary Bryn Jones, reissued and packaged by Ukrainian label I Shall Sing Until My Land Is Free. Recorded in the immediate wake of the Oslo I accords, the album both bares Jones' stance on the peace pact and eerily predicts its aftermath, with humming, resonant drones, tinny vocal fragments and reversed percussion colliding in aural analogues of political tension, distrust and cyclicality. Overall it is an equally meditative and ominous listen, peppered with many of the hallmarks of mid-nineties Muzlimgauze productions, from swung, steppy, proto-DMZ ride cymbals, to plucked FM synth MIDI earworms, to his ever-present swathes of darkly churning string drones. Essential!

Review: Steven Stapleton is Nurse With Wound. Originally a band, sometimes abbreviated to NWW, since 1978 the English act has explored a range of dark and brooding styles, including industrial, dark ambient, drone, and noise. Well known for sound collages - usually pretty intense in nature - influences come from the dada and surrealist art schools, cabaret music, John Cage, The Beach Boys, Krautrock, and Musique Concrete. She & Me Fall Together In Free Death is, in this instance at least, the highly anticipated reissue of the landmark album which proved just how good NWW is at all forms of song craft. Work here edges into the eerier end of Liars collaborating with Tom Waits' at his most experimental and that's really clutching for reference points. Quite unlike anything else you'll buy today, we promise.

Review: First compiled as a double CD in 2002, Moon's Milk (In Four Phases) is a suite of four EPs that Coil released seasonally via their in-house Eskaton imprint across 1998. The line-up for these sessions were John Balance, Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson, Drew McDowall and William Breeze. Recorded primarily at their home studio in Chiswick, London on the eve of a permanent relocation to the small seaside town of Weston-Super- Mare, the collection has long loomed as a pivotal and pinnacle work in the group's discography, but has never been officially reissued, or re-pressed on vinyl. Time has only ripened its tapestry of regal strangeness. Arranged sequentially in tribute to the equinoxes and solstices, Moon's Milk captures Coil at a revelatory crossroads, leaning deeper into improvisation, spontaneity and sound design. 'Moon's Milk or Under an Unquiet Skull' initiates the proceedings on 'Spring Equinox', a two-part netherworld organ seance woven from vocal drones, cathedral keys, seasick strings, and opiated undertow. From there, 'Summer Solstice' skews lighter but no less incantational, with Balance embracing his voice- as-instrument across lucid dream torch songs ('Bee Stings'), purgatorial spoken word ('Glowworms/Waveforms'), sultry chamber pieces ('Summer Substructures'), and falsetto ravings ('A Warning From The Sun (For Fritz)'.

Review: As part of the ongoing Coil reissue program, this classic album has been remastered and now arrives on CD. There are echoes of the band's mid-1980s cult classic album Horse Rotorvator in The Ape of Naples in that it has such a wide variety of sounds and styles. This one first came out back in 2005 and is a go-to for fans as it is just a great example of the band's singular sonic world. The album was put together by Peter Christopherson a year after Jhonn Balance's deadly fall and it features re-workings of the live favourites like 'Amethyst Deceivers' and Love Secret's Domain album track 'Teenage Lightning' plus a numb of tunes first meant for the ultimately ill-fated Backwards long player.

Review: Founded in 1979, Severed Heads - originally Mr and Mrs No Smoking Sign - never liked to do things by numbers. Spanning industrial, synthwave, coldwave, post-punk, electronic dance, synth pop and more, while wildly varied they might also be considered auteurs. Simply put, you can usually guess, or know, that you're listening to Severed Heads long before you actually find out you're listening to Severed Heads. Noisy arrangements overflowing with ideas, while at times things may border on overwhelming, for the most part the genius comes in how finely balanced the tracks are. Bad Mood Guy, first released in 1987, was their seventh studio album, described by some at the time as "punishing pop with crunching rhythms", and reflects them at their finest. Moody, at times angry, alway forward thinking and hard to compare.

Review: Wow. Germany's Vinyl on Demand are on a roll in recent months, thanks to a string of valuable reissues and mouth-watering special editions, such as this latest juggernaut from legendary industrial band, Clock DVA. In case you weren't aware, the outfit were a Sheffield-based post-punk band who later branched out into early forms of techno and the like, but this anthology actually predates those years and takes a look back at the band's formations. Inside, you'll find a collection of recordings by Adi Newton made between 1976 and 1977, and also the Future recordings, the trio made up of Newton, Martyn Ware and Craig Marsh before they developed into Clock DVA. FYI Future pretty much invented synth-pop, it begins and possibly even ends with these guys. This is an essential piece of vinyl.

Review: Vinyl On Demand are on a bit of a roll as of late, and this extensive - and largely excellent - collection of lo-fi tape recordings is another stunning example of how these guys operate. Not happy with having explored a vast amount of music from the European quarters, Frank Maier, the head of the label, has decided to go give himself an ambitious mission here by collating rare and wonderful recordings from the American cassette culture, masterfully executed and beautifully packaged. With 8 LP's and almost 100 tracks on here, this is any collector's dream, a sign that God must exist and that we were silly to think that such perfection couldn't be packed into a compilation. From the wonky drum machine jams of Marc Barreca, to Anode Productions, K Leimer, and even Steve Roach's visionary proto-electro/techno, there is so much gold in here that we're quite taken aback ourselves. it's almost the end of 2015 already, and this might well make it into the top 5 releases of the year. No, we're not joking, it's that important, and that good. All killer, no filler.

Review: The man, the legend, Darren Cunningham finally comes through with his third full-length album, after two splendid efforts for London's Honest Jon's. This time he resides at Ninja Tune and his own Werkdiscs in a veritable fight to the death, with what has been hinted as potentially being his last album under the Actress pseudonym. The tone is sparser and the feel is more textural compared to his earlier work, amalgamating dissonant flurries of noise together with shuffle-proof beats and that inimitable Actress deviance. Presented as a sequel to Hazyville, this rather stush looking boxset includes that album on vinyl for the very first time so you can assess how the two fare yourself.

Review: Previously presented as the 808 Box, Fundamentals continue their super-limited collectivist spirit with the 808 Bag. Comprising over 40 examples of contemporary electro, from artists as diverse as Hadamard and Scape One, the whole package is curated and created with serious care and attention. Spread across eight EPs, expect to be massaged by the icy synth fingers of Dpo's "Mitosis", expect to do some serious body popping to Classic Decay's "Lumiers Dans La Nuit" and anticipate some serious dark audio deviance on Solvent's "Light & Lens". Limited to only 80 copies, tributes to the most important machine in electronic music don't come much more exciting or exclusive than this!

Review: US producer SSPS is a ram outsider who is well known to fans of the weird and the wonderful. His adventurous experiments have landed on labels like L.I.E.S. and Kode run by Traxx and collide punk, noise, wave, hardcore, slow beat and jakbeat. This is a retrospective release that brings together some of his many highlights and proves why he is so well-loved by a community of fans on the fringes of the underground mainstream. As well as this genre references there are plenty of odd vocals and smeared synths unifying the sounds which here included four tunes recorded live For Unlimited Nation Summer Of 2020.

Review: Three decades ago, Coil released one of their most arresting an ear-catching albums, Love's Secret Domain. Inspired not by their intense industrial roots but rather the developing dance music culture - think sample-fired hip-hop, the jaunty organs of U.S house, hallucinatory ambient, bleeping electronica, bass-heavy UK techno and leftfield synth-pop - it marked a thrilling new chapter in the band's career. This expanded 30th anniversary tells the full story, stretching out the original album and a wealth of rare and previously unreleased material (extended versions, demos and unheard tracks) across three slabs of gold-coloured wax. The price may raise a few eyebrows, but copies are limited, and it really is the definitive edition of a genuinely brilliant album.

Review: RECOMMENDED
With its cover plucked straight from the imagination of Salvador Dali, and running to no less than four individual vinyls, this retrospective collection of Apparat's various film score chapters to date clearly means serious conceptual business. But it's far more than an exercise in proving artistic ingenuity.

As an artist, the chap better known to some as Sasha Ring has always been able to capture the spectrum of human emotions in instrumental arrangements, and this has perhaps never been clearer and in these beautiful but brief slices of sound. Work like 'La Gravidanza' won't leave a dry eye in the house, despite the fact it shares as much in common with a pre-symphony tune-up than a track per se. 'Reconciliation' feels like a sweet testament to redemption and moving forward, but barely has tangible structure. In short, many works of micro genius.

Review: British born Dave Tipper is a composer and producer who makes everything from breakbeat to ambient to trip hop. He has headed up his own Tippermusic label since 2005 and is an album veteran with more than 12 to his name since the late 90s. This one came in 2019 but was on a poor quality pressing that the artist himself acknowledged. As the pressing plant he used closed down, there was no repress at the time. But finally, all the wrongs of the first press are now corrected on this fresh reissue meaning there are no distractions from the lush ambient electronica music continued within.

Review: Before they became ambient titans with a penchant for doing gigs from their studio via ISDN line, the Future Sound of London had already established themselves as a well-regarded house and techno act - albeit one whose love of wavy chords, drifting vocal samples and hallucinatory acid lines put them at the psychedelic end of the rave spectrum. The album that established their reputation, Accelerator, is now 30 years old, which is as good an excuse as any for this reissue. Now stretched across two slabs of wax rather than one for a louder cut, the set still sparkles, thanks in part to the duo's ability to mix and match elements of turbn-of-the-90s ambient house, breakbeat hardcore, bleep techno, deep house and what would then have been called "jungle techno".

Review: Graham Lambkin's first four solo records are all collected here for this special deluxe release. It also includes an expansive 42-page book featuring essays, anecdotal recollections, unseen photos and reproductions of artworks that all help add insight and intrigue to the music of the Dover-born artist. He produced material that captured domestic life living in New York from 2001 - 2011, and reimagined in new spaces. Weirdly abstract yet somehow familiar, these tracks have the sound of falling rain, heavily distorted voices and sound poetry all worked into a fresh take on the classic musique concrete style.

Review: While Jean-Michael Basquiat's fame came through his distinctive and now celebrated paintings, he was also a member of one of the most interesting "industrial sound" bands ever to emerge from the downtown NYC scene, Gray (the other members included fellow founder Michael Holman and Vincent Gallo). The band only ever recorded one album, 1981's Shades Of, but it's a good 'un: a deliciously hazy, hard-to-pigeonhole sound soup that combines ambient textures, music concrete style tape loops, experimental noise and delay-laden instrumentation with ghostly vocals and found-sound percussion. This timely (and highly limited) reissue stretches the original set across two slabs of slate-grey wax, while also adding a third record of contemporary remixes from the likes of King Britt, the Gaslamp Killer and Todd Rundgren.

Review: Bandmates Peter Christopherson and John Balance were allegedly holed up in a Victorian mansion in the almost-forgotten English seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare, in the midst of a drug binge when they got cracking on Musick To Play In The Dark. Location aside, it's hardly the most original genesis of an album, but nevertheless the end product was a sign of just how talented the artists are - give the average person a bag full of powders and pills and ask them for a record. Then see what happens.

Coil's tenth album arrived in 1999, bookending one part of their story and beginning the next. It's here the players opted to embrace ambient, glitch, minimalism and 'kosmische musik' - experimental rock sub-genre 'cosmic music' popularised in West Germany during the late-1960s. Or, to use the outfit's own terminology, they invented 'moon musick', marking their transition to a "lunar group". The results are mesmerising.

Review: With Christmas fast approaching, Throbbing Gristle founder member Chris Carter has decided to offer up the perfect stocking filler for industrial and experimental electronica enthusiasts: a limited coloured 6xLP retrospective focusing on the early part of his solo career. While it omits his 1980 debut "The Space Between", it does include expanded, re-mastered versions of 1985's surprisingly ambient "Mondo B", 1998's trippy, hypnotic and rhythmical "Disobedient Redux" and 1999's brilliant "Small Moon Redux". Even more excitingly, one of the box's LPs is the most experimental, out-there and inspired of all, as it is made up entirely of previously unreleased tracks recorded between 1973 and 77. In truth, this LP is worth the entrance price on its own.

Review: You may not be familiar with avant-garde composer Valentina Goncharova, but this incredible collection of rare home recordings is enough to answer any questions you might have as to how mind-blowing her work is. The sort of artist who needs to flee the Leningrad Conservatoire in order to have the space and freedom to fully explore ideas. Combining elements of musique concrete, drone, ambient and a kind of lo-fi classical, this is an expression of place - sanctuary of the home - and its ability to offer protection from creative oppressors. Using vocal mantras, curious refrains, amplified and distorted strings (cello in particular), you really get a sense of not only the where but the how behind these arrangements. Hushed but dense, they draw the listener in with surprising speed, so before you know it you're right there in that domestic studio watching a genius at work.

Review: When it was initially released in 1983, Seaside Lovers - Memories in Beach House was the third volume in a series of atmospheric and evocative collaborations between Japanese musicians Haroumi Hosono, Takahiko Ishikawa and Masataka Motsutohya, all of which were designed to capture the mood of a specific or imaginary place. While the whole series has long been popular with Balearic DJs, Seaside Lovers is undoubtedly the most sought-after of the sets. Listening back to this reissue, it's easy to see why. Combining sun-kissed synths with suitably tropical rhythms and instrumentation, a dash of jazz-fusion and occasional Latin style percussion, you can almost feel the sand between your toes as you listen.

Review: Now two decades into his career as one of electronic music's most diverse and interesting composers, Ulrich Schnauss has decided the time is right to offer up a sizable retrospective of his work. Suitable for both confirmed fans and newcomers, "Now Is A Timeless Present: A Retrospective" includes freshly re-mastered editions of three key albums - 2001's "Far Away Trains Passing By" (which is accompanied by a disc of bonus material recorded during the same period), 2003's "A Strangely Isolated Place" and 2007's "Goodbye" - plus extensively re-recorded and reworked versions of two more recent sets, "A Long Way To Fall" (2012) and "No Further Ahead Than Today" (2016). If that wasn't enough to set the pulse racing, Schnauss has also included a compilation of "outtakes, demos and fragments".

Review: The Microcosm: Visionary Music Of Continental Europe, 1970-1986 presents works from 'cosmically-taped' artists; legends like Vangelis, Ash Ra Tempel, and Popol Vuh through to more obscure names in the form of Bernard Xolotl, Robert Julian Horky and Enno Velthuys. According to Washington State label Light In The Attic, the compilation aspires to present these these works of "ambient, new age, neuzeit, prog, krautrock, cosmic, holistic stuff, whatever one calls it - as a pulsating movement unto itself", and they've done a fine job of that when you hear how well curated this album really is. From major label recordings through to limited obscure cassette editions, it unearths some truly captivating and oddly inspiring gems from beatless electronic music's recent past.

Review: If you were going to trust anyone with producing a 'musical encyclopedia', why ever not Ryuichi Sakamoto? The Japanese master originally released "Illustrated Musical Encyclopedia" in 1986, using the album as a chance to display his considerable range and skill in a wide number of musical fields. Track to track things vary wildly, from the funky synth delights of "Tibetan Dance" to the jazzy diversions of "Etude" and on to the balmy exotica of "Paradise Lost". It's rich in the production values of the era, but also wildly imaginative and utterly easy on the ears. This reissue brings together some tracks that weren't originally included on the UK pressing of the record, making it a must-grab for all Sakamoto collectors.

Review: This is an absolute treat for fans of experimental industrial noisniks Coil. If you fit that description, you should already be salivating at the prospect of a triple-vinyl album containing previously unheard, unreleased material. "Swanyard" is in effect an extended trawl through the late John Balance and Peter Christopherson's archives, focusing in particular on a productive period between 1993 and 1996 that saw the pair release a trio of acclaimed albums. Much of the material could be classed as either demos or work-in-progress sketches inspired by Christopherson's vivid dreams, but such was the quality of the pair's work that it sounds much more eccentric, vibrant and "complete" than many comparable compilations.

Review: Originally released in 1977, Roland Kayn's Simultan gets a much needed reissue here on Italian label Die Schachtel. A student of Boris Blacher, Josef Rufer, Fritz Winckel and Oskar Sala, Kayn composed or instruments (mainly the organ and the piano) and worked mostly on what he called cybernetic music - a concept based on programming long format compositions on early computer systems. He must be seen as a pioneer of this genre of modern music, but remained largely unknown, releasing 21 albums between 1970 and 2006. He sadly passed away in 2011. This is among the best of all avant-garde electronic works of its era.

Review: It's taken a while, but finally Thom Yorke's impressive third solo album, "ANIMA", is available on wax (and in a fetching shade of orange, too). A future classic that continues the legacy he started with XL Recordings back in 2006 (with his solo debut The Eraser), ANIMA is well worth picking up, as Yorke and co-producer Nigel Godrich offer up evocative, off-kilter songs built around the twin attractions of the Radiohead man's distinctive vocals and skewed backing tracks rich in layered electronic noise, body-bending sub-bass, discordant synthesizer parts and intriguingly jaunty drum loops. Highlights are plentiful throughout, from the creepy, lo-fi ambient swirl of "Last I Heard (...He Was Circling the Drain)" and "Dawn Chorus" (a blissfully dewy-eyed early morning soundscape), to the low-slung, post-trip-hop hum of "I Am A Very Rude Person" and the fizzing, jazz-fired thrust of "Impossible Knots". Melancholic, yes. Deep and self-effacing, of course. Nihilistic, not really. Percussive futurist sub-pop is back.

Given the names on show - think Speedy J, Spacetime Continuum, Future Sound of London, B12, Scanner, Move D and Meat Beat Manifesto, for starters - it was clearly inspired by the 'intelligent techno' movement of the early-to-mid '90s. Naturally, that sort of intergalactic gear dominates throughout, alongside inspired trips into the worlds of spacey drum & bass, dub techno, ambient and Motor City futurism. The quality threshold is high throughout, helped by the fact that some of the material on show has lay dormant on DAT tapes since the 1990s.

Review: Here's something to excite fans of classic krautrock: a deluxe, boxed retrospective containing the early solo material of Harmonia and NEU! co-founder Michael Rother. The LPs are largely arranged in chronological order, with 1977 solo debut "Flammende Herzen" - a fine collection of breezy, arty, stretched-out krautrock instrumentals, being immediately followed by 1978's more synthesizer-heavy and prog rock influenced "Sterntaler". The next two chronicle his 1979 and '82 fusions of krautrock and Berlin School ambient, while the fifth gathers together the prolific German artist's work for the soundtracks of obscure movies "The Robbers" and "Houston" before closing out with his live/remix works.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Minor creasing on outer sleeve, also the record has very light surface marks, but otherwise in excellent working condition***

Now that's what we call an album title 2021. As the name implies, we're skirting the edges of 1980s Japanese pop, opting to explore the strange, sci-fi hued, traditionally rooted noises that weren't necessarily dominant in the Far East country at that time, but certainly found favour with more explorative listeners. And it's not hard to hear why.

Tracks like 'Days Man' by Yoshio Ojima could work well in a slo-mo house or electronica set today. While preceding effort 'Hikari No Ito Kin No Ito' from Mishio Ogawa is like a strangely innocent hybrid of lullaby and pop song. Elsewhere, the twinkling synths and wet snare hits of Naomi Asai's 'Yakan Hikou' further accentuate the surrealism running through so much of what is here. One for the trophy cabinet, collectors take note (and form a queue).

There are also wonky peak time workouts and plenty in between from a classy selection of artist from all over the world.

The special effects are still pretty mind blowing, the story remains hugely relevant and the fact that the Terminator himself has had such a big political career in the states is unthinkable. The soundtrack was always a fantastically standout element of the film, the way on conveyed menace, futurism and fear so spectacularly. ,Now it makes its way to vinyl on limited clear pink, blue and black splattered wax and is sure to be a great tool for DJs looking to add some tension and drama to their mixtapes and sets.

Review: Mike Paradinas amassed a fine body of work under the stage name u-Ziq through the 1990s. The Planet Mu label head is currently reissuing some of it with Lunatic Harness, his fourth album form 1997, the latest to get the treatment. It came out of the so-called drill&bass movement but was more pretty than most from that niche sub-genre. While Aphex Twin and Squarepusher always went for abrasive textures, he delves into more celestial and suspensory sounds rich in shimmering melody. It remains one of the best IDM albums of any era.

Review: A revolutionary album in the electronic music tapestry, 'Lunatic Harness' broke conventions left and right when it was released back in 1997. The 4th album for u-Ziq is by far their greatest and most influential, it's breakbeats, jazz flits and electronic ambience can be described as proto-breakcore in a sense. No better to see all these elements at play than in the opener 'Brace Yourself Jason', a smorgasbord of sonic delights that acts as a preview for the entire record. This expanded release is the final say in the 'Lunatic Harness' canon, including previously unreleased material adding onto an expanded version containing EP material on a clear quadruple 12" boxset, housed in a high-quality case.

Love's Secret Domain
Review: British experimental band Coil were already alternate poster boys by the release of their third studio album in 1991. That said, Love's Secret Domain was a slight departure from their previous sound with brooding synths and melodies pleased by samples inspired by acid house. Tying that influence in further, Marc Almond is a guest vocalist on 'Titan Arch.' The band's heavy drug use - and 48 hour long stints with no sleep and "constant hallucinations of 10 foot tall Amazonian warriors and Babylonian kings" - had a big impact on the according of this album and lend it some of its more outlier sound effects and moods.

Review: Sample-based music can be many things to many people. Few would ever expect it to sound quite as beautiful as this, though. For his latest addition to an increasingly weighty and extensive back catalogue, Susumu Yokota looks to hit the nail on the head in terms of answering the question 'what does Susumu Yokota sound like?'

On Symbol the bedroom composer takes a selection of often familiar, sometimes odd and relatively unknown classical movements, cuts them up and pastes them back together, creating brand new rhythms. In a lot of ways it's the epitome of sample music, but we've not heard many records that pull off the task and wind up with something that doesn't really sound as looped or fixed as it is, largely achieving this with original work that's a century old, if not (much) more.

Review: OK, wow. We cannot believe it has been 10 years since Niclas Jaar's impressive Space Is Only Noise album. At the time he was a young buck, dallying in house and techno but clearly always about sp much more. The cover of this record finds the young artist in a buggy in no-mans-land next to the Berlin wall and that's a fine metaphor for his musical style. It's filled with samples, found sounds, delicate piano playing and is suited to the late night hours, where time slows down and deep thought takes over. It sounds as usual and unique now as it did back then.

Review: There are echoes of Coil's mid-1980s cult classic album 'Horse Rotorvator' in 'The Ape of Naples' in that it has such a wide variety of sounds and styles. This one first came back in 2005 and is a go-to for fans as it is just a great example of the band's singular sonic world. Grammy-nominated engineer Jessica Thompson has remastered all the originals for this new reissue.

Review: When the raging global pandemic forced the cancellation of last year's edition of the lauded Berlin Atonal festival, an annual event famed for exclusive performances and surprise collaborations from cutting edge electronic artists, the event's organisers decided to put together this vast box set instead. The result is a fine compilation of new, previously unreleased works from a mixture of well-known artists and up-and-coming musicians. Musically, it offers a great snapshot of leftfield electronic music right now and touches on everything from glitchy IDM-pop, broken techno, folktronica and post-dubstep, to drone, modular synthesizer soundscapes, intense industrial workouts and becalmed ambient. A genuinely terrific release.

Review: French duo Principles Of Geometry return to esteemed French imprint Tigersushi for their fifth long-player and the first in over eight years titled ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ. Of the curious title, the duo - comprised of Guillaume Grosso & Jeremy Duval - have stated that this album is a construct on the language which composes and continues to inspire their musical lexicon. Influences of early 90s IDM are a constant throughout the album's extensive collection of tracks. There's the acid washed sunrise breaks of 'Brosome Ride', the lo-fi ambient journey of 'Cmd Ctrl' through to the evocative smack electro of 'Gear', the Warp influenced 'Loom Letter' which could have appeared on the seminal Artificial Intelligence series, and the hyperaware drum 'n' bass of 'We Did It Joe' making for a wide range of styles on this magnificent opus
