Cast your mind back to when everyone's (or at least most people's) favourite Icelandic woodland sprite power-chill-pop oddities released Takk... Back in 2005 it was a symphony of celebratory, life-affirming walls of sound, the ideal score to an Attenborough documentary. Now it feels a little a painfully poignant and emotionally charged sonic memory of a lost world. Fear not, though, like this album, the good days will return again.

Review: Eden Ahbez was a the prototypical hippie in California, writing songs and recording through the 40s to the 60s and penning Nat King Cole's hit single 'Nature Boy' amongst others. This album, his definitive 1960 opus, is a unique curio which touches on jazz, spirituality and much more besides, but ultimately sounds utterly unique, much like Ahbez himself was. There's a romantic lilt to his playing, a little sadness but also much innocence and joy in these songs. If they don't stir up the inner nature child in you, you must have a heart of concrete. Notes: MoCo is a fully passive monitor controller that helps you to provide perfect control over the playback volume of your studio monitors.
"Fully passive" means that there are no active components involved, that could in any way alter the audio signal - keeping the maximum sound quality level for your studio monitors. MoCo provides two separate stereo inputs (one with balanced 1/4" TRS connectors, one with both unbalanced RCA and unbalanced 1/8" TRS connectors) and two separate stereo outputs (one with balanced XLR connectors, one with balanced / unbalanced 1/4" TRS plus unbalanced 1/8" TRS connectors). MoCo does not change your signals from unbalanced to balanced: what goes in, goes out!
Via one switch you can select the input signal and with separate buttons, each output can be enabled. Also there is a switch that changes the monitor signal to mono and you can mute the playback audio signal quickly at the touch of a button. A quick swap of the left and right audio signal channels is also possible. And of course, the stylish big knob in the center of MoCo controls the actual playback volume.

… Read more"Fully passive" means that there are no active components involved, that could in any way alter the audio signal - keeping the maximum sound quality level for your studio monitors. MoCo provides two separate stereo inputs (one with balanced 1/4" TRS connectors, one with both unbalanced RCA and unbalanced 1/8" TRS connectors) and two separate stereo outputs (one with balanced XLR connectors, one with balanced / unbalanced 1/4" TRS plus unbalanced 1/8" TRS connectors). MoCo does not change your signals from unbalanced to balanced: what goes in, goes out!
Via one switch you can select the input signal and with separate buttons, each output can be enabled. Also there is a switch that changes the monitor signal to mono and you can mute the playback audio signal quickly at the touch of a button. A quick swap of the left and right audio signal channels is also possible. And of course, the stylish big knob in the center of MoCo controls the actual playback volume.

An emotional, epic soundtrack composed by French electronic act M83 was the only real option for him - a match made in heaven. Immediately, 'Jack's Dream' and 'Waking Up' are cinematic and vast in scope with blaring strings that swell in ways that only movie soundtracks can. A complete departure from Anthony Gonzalez's megahit 'Midnight City', 'Oblivion' is an orchestral affair that is bold and punchy, with soft and ethereal ambient patches scattered throughout. The title track is a major standout, featuring Norwegian talent Susanne Sundfor, a favourite vocalist and frequent collaborator of Royksopp. Expect the unexpected, but prepare to be amazed.

Review: Mike Paradinas amassed a fine body of work under the stage name u-Ziq through the 1990s. The Planet Mu label head is currently reissuing some of it with Lunatic Harness, his fourth album form 1997, the latest to get the treatment. It came out of the so-called drill&bass movement but was more pretty than most from that niche sub-genre. While Aphex Twin and Squarepusher always went for abrasive textures, he delves into more celestial and suspensory sounds rich in shimmering melody. It remains one of the best IDM albums of any era.

Review: Talk about taking your sweet time. Anyone want to hazard a guess at how long Blinking Lights & Other Revelations took to finish? Thought not. In truth, Eels started work on it in 1998, but it wouldn't see the light of day until 2005. Marking the start of a new era for the band, contractually at least - their deal with David Geffen and Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks Records having dissolved the previous year - the album was high concept, too.
As per frontman E, writing on the band's official website at the time of Blinking Lights' release, the record is about "God and all the questions relating to the subject of God." Suddenly the extended production period makes sense. Then you see it has 33 tracks listed on the sleeve and it all becomes clear. A classic piece of alternative rock with big, bold ideas, it should always be remembered as one of the first landmarks to come from America this millennium.

Review: It's astounding to think that Mother 2 was released in 1994. A landmark moment for the SNES video game system, it arrived five years after its predecessor, and as such enjoyed the benefits of what was then a next generation platform. Felt in terms of graphical and gameplay capabilities, suffice to say the upgraded hardware was also capable of capturing much more engaging and imaginative music. Here we are, almost 30 years on from when this sequel first captivated people, and the score itself gets a re-release on vinyl. Again drafting Hirokazu Tanaka and Keiichi Suzuki as composers, the pair would later explain how much more freedom they had due to the technological progress made between this and its predecessor. Translated into a music review, think deep, atmospheric ambient constructed from many layers of sound. A futuristic sonic trip into the far reaches of the cosmos that still holds up within the genre today.

Review: As recently as this year with his Floating Points collaboration, Pharoah Sanders has proven to be in excellent form. Which is all the more remarkable given the length of his career. Oe of the early highlights was the 1981 classic, Rejoice, which explored a more mellow sound than previous works. The record is rife with superb improvs a la late 50s John Coltrane as well as fine turns from top players including pianists Joe Bonner and John Hicks, bassist Art Davis and drummers Elvin Jones and Billy Higgins. Bobby Hutcherson adds some start vibes work and that helps the album to hold your attention closely throughout.
