Review: The Fall apparently weren't thrilled with Rough Trade focusing so many resources on the Smiths, not least as it meant the full length video they wanted to make to accompany this, their sixth studio album, would not be possible, while the other band got the money to make one. Mark E Smith and company's response was to produce their own, and in many ways the 52-minute Perverted By Language Bis, directed by multifaceted French enigma Claude Bessy, remains one of the archetypal pieces of Fall iconography. The music isn't bad on its own, either, opening on the relentlessly catchy 'Eat Y'self Fitter', once described as "endlessly cycling rockabilly chug with extra keyboard oddities and sudden music-less exchanges for the chorus." 'Neighbourhood of Infinity' then picks up the pace, and grit, and we're soon in deep. A record that impresses musically and in terms of forward thinking production (see: 'Garden') without sacrificing the grass roots energy of post punk at the time.

Review: The Darling Buds were an alternative rock band from Newport, Wales. They formed in 1986, were named after the H. E. Bates novel The Darling Buds of May and Erotica is their third and final album, released a few weeks before Madonna's album of the same name in October 1992. The album contained the US single, 'Long Day In The Universe', which was featured on the soundtrack for the Mike Myers film, So I Married an Axe Murderer. Erotica is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on translucent yellow coloured vinyl and includes an insert.

Review: Before we even get to the music, shall we talk about this album title? Easily up there with the best named records of all time, thankfully this is matched in the quality of the music itself. All-British blues rock 'n' roll at its grittiest and funkiest, and most musically impressive. A showcase of exquisite guitar and piano work, and songwriting, marks the debut of Chicken Shack, the group founded by Stan Webb, Andy Silvester, and Alan Morley, who also enlisted Christine Perfect, later Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie. Comprising ten predominantly rather short tracks (most are around three minutes), this format only leaves us wanting more as the record plays out. There's the classic heartbroken ode 'Lonesome Whistle Blues', the fraught six string solos of 'See See Baby', and the rowdy bar-in-a-track that is 'San Ho Zay' to get you started, but really everything on here is gold.

Review: On Air is the second solo release by Alan Parsons, following the split of The Alan Parsons Project. One of the creative forces behind this album was APP long-time guitarist Ian Bairnson; the concept of the album revolves around the history of airborne exploration. The theme of 'Too Close to the Sun' is escaping the labyrinth of the Minotaur; 'Brother Up in Heaven' is an emotionally driven song, about the unfortunate death of Ian Bairnson's cousin; 'One Day to Fly' is a song about Leonardo da Vinci's search to design a flying machine. A who's-who of lead vocalists are featured on the album, be they Christopher Cross, Eric Stewart, Neil Lockwood, Steve Overland or Graham Dye. Although On Air might be the most underrated Alan Parsons albums, many consider this as one of his best albums - it now comes back around as a limited edition reissue of 1500 individually numbered copies on translucent red coloured vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve and including an insert with lyrics and pictures.

Review: American jazz fusion outfits don't come much more venerated than Weather Report. Fronted by leader Joe Zawinul, the ensemble evolved subtly throughout their career and it was in 1974 that they dropped this album, Sweetnighter. It proved to be a little more funky and influenced by the emerging t&b of the day than its predecessors and it is also noted for being the last long player the band cut with original bassist Miroslav Vitous, as well as being the band's first album to make it into the Top 100 in the US charts of the day. It sodas as good now as ever on this nice heavyweight vinyl pressing.

Review: When Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon came out at the box office, it went some way to confirming we'd entered a new millennium, and a fresh era in cinema. Visually spectacular, despite being made on a small budget for epics even back then ($17million), the stunning tale of warring Chinese dynasties, told through battle scenes disguised as beautiful, entrancingly choreographed performance art, was an aesthetic landmark, and a more thoughtful take on the wuxia martial arts action canon. Picking up Golden Globes and Academy Awards, Tan Dun's soundtrack certainly contributes a lot to just how amazing the overall experience of watching CTHD is. Although losing out on its own nomination to the equally powerful Gladiator score - what a year it was for historic fanfares - the combination of Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai National Orchestra, and Shanghai Percussion Ensemble makes for a classical masterpiece, from the drummiest war marches to the most serene, cherry blossom-hued harmonies.

Review: Cuckoo was their second full length from Curve - Toni Halliday on vocals and guitar with Dean Garcia - and saw its release in 1993. This album was heavier, focused and featured stronger, more aggressive rhythms that evolved from their first album. Heavily influenced by bombastic urban and electronic beats but favouring shoegaze effects on the guitars, making for a unique combination that made Cuckoo stand out from the rest, ultimately predating similar sounds from bands like Garbage. This album holds key tracks like the amazing 'Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus' as well as the singles 'Missing Link' and 'Super Blaster'. The effects of Curve are still being felt today by those who discover them and fans of the producer Flood should definitely be aware of this album if they are not already. This reissue comes on limited numbered 180- Gram pink & purple vinyl LP complete with an insert.

Review: A great choice by Music On Vinyl - whom at this point have proven their mettle at sating the desires of almost any type of past music enjoyer - Chapterhouse's 'Whirlpool' is the debut studio album by the English shoegaze band, and thoroughly deserves this case of retrospection. In just nine tracks, the quartet of Andrew Sheriff, Stephen Patman, Simon Rowe and Ashley Bates established a hugely maximal sound, stylistically nailing the form by pairing its vacuuming vocal washes with more propulsive, hard-limited mixes and masters, informed by industrial and dance music most notably. Contemporaries of similarly tersely-named bands like Lush, Moose, Ride and Curve, Chapterhouse were indeed the most multi-syllabic, not to mention least restrained band out at the time; standouts 'Pearl', 'Autosleeper' and 'Falling Down' nailed the explosion of '90s indie ferment and the overflow of emotions that came with the decade.

With the rise of successful greatest hits albums, the label at the time pressured the young band to bring out a collection of previously released music, with then 12 songs featured here the result of collecting three songs per prior album that the band felt were their strongest. This album features some of the most beloved live songs by the band like 'Buck's Boogie'. Review: Armin van Buuren is now a global trance titan who has very much changed the game. It is 20 years since he dropped his debut album 76 back in 2003 on United Recordings and was titled after the year of his birth. It also came just after the 100th episode of his A State of Trance radio show which is still going strong today. The artists has often been voted as DJ Mag's Top DJ in their annual poll and this record has big collabs with the likes of Scottish singer Ray Wilson, Dutch pop band Krezip, fellow trance DJ Ferry Corsten and others. The big tunes from it were singles 'Yet Another Day' and 'Burned With Desire'.

Review: The highly anticipated eighth full-length from Dutch symphonic metal legends Within Temptation comes four arduous years since the release of 2019's overlooked Resist. Review: Moloko's third album was a landmark success for the firecracker partnership of Roisin Murphy and Mark Brydon, and it saw them break through from cult favourites to chart-topping champions. Admittedly, a lot of that success was thanks to Boris Dlugosh doing a savvy remix of 'Sing It Back' from their previous album I Am Not A Doctor, but it was all the encouragement the public needed to latch onto Moloko's charms, and follow-up hit 'The Time Is Now' cemented their reputation. Balancing deep-rooted club nous and cavalier flair with a strong pop backbone, Things To Make And Do is every inch a millennial classic and it's not aged a jot.

Classics included in this most mellifluous and relaxing of albums are 'Embraceable You' and 'Georgia On My Mind' which show the unique skills of the great tenor saxophonist.
