You Can Win If You Want (instrumental) (3:41)
One In A Million (3:39)
Review: Disco heads are considered Modern Talking's 1985 maxi-single 'You Can Win If You Want' a classic for many years. It's textbook Scandi synth-pop from the group that contained producer and songwriter Dieter Bohlen, vocalist Thomas Anders and various other guest members during the 80s. The group put out some 13 albums but this one was always the standout. The original comes as a Special Dance Version and Instrumental while 'One In A Million' is also included on the flip for extra dance floor fun. This superb reissue comes on luxurious gold vinyl making it even more special.

Now the 4-track EP version of 'Xpander' sees a double 12" reissue from Music On Vinyl, showing off Sasha's taste for advanced breaks-trance, psychic themes and everything in between.

Review: Mikey Dread was a legend of reggae as a producer, DJ and singer, who gained international fame for working with The Clash on 'Bankrobber' and mixing dub versions for their Black Market Clash and Sandinista! albums. Through his Dread At The Controls label he released reams of incredible dub and roots reggae himself, with World War III surely one of the highlights. With the Roots Radics as the backing band and the likes of Earl Sixteen and Watty Burnett on backing vocals, the cast of characters is steeped in reggae's golden era, and sure enough the sound is as good as you'd expect. This welcome reissue comes on yellow vinyl - a beam of sunshine as uplifting as the riddims carved into the grooves.

Review: Woody Shaw was one of the more influential jazz musicians of his time. This album was recorded in 1985 and finds him in full flow with his Tone Jansa Quartet. The American jazz trumpeter, composer, arranger, and band leader very much shows off his improvisational skills on flugelhorn and trumpet while his sidemen Renato Chico on piano, Peter Herbert on bass, Dragan Gajic on drums and Tone Jansa on tenor sax do not disappoint either. This is the first time the album has been reissued since its original release and comes in limited quantities.

Review: A great choice by Music On Vinyl - whom at this point have proven their mettle at sating the desires of almost any type of past music enjoyer - Chapterhouse's 'Whirlpool' is the debut studio album by the English shoegaze band, and thoroughly deserves this case of retrospection. In just nine tracks, the quartet of Andrew Sheriff, Stephen Patman, Simon Rowe and Ashley Bates established a hugely maximal sound, stylistically nailing the form by pairing its vacuuming vocal washes with more propulsive, hard-limited mixes and masters, informed by industrial and dance music most notably. Contemporaries of similarly tersely-named bands like Lush, Moose, Ride and Curve, Chapterhouse were indeed the most multi-syllabic, not to mention least restrained band out at the time; standouts 'Pearl', 'Autosleeper' and 'Falling Down' nailed the explosion of '90s indie ferment and the overflow of emotions that came with the decade.

Review: The now late but always great and legendary American jazz tenor-saxophonist Pharoah Sanders plays some straight-up ballards on this compilation album, Welcome to Love. The main man is joined by William Henderson on piano, Stafford James on bass and Eccleston W. Wainwright on drums and between them they cook up some real highlights. Bonus track 'Moonlight In Vermont' is a classic in itself and this one comes on limited edition, individually numbered copies on yellow vinyl.

Review: A whole bunch of Weather Report albums are being reissued at the moment and listening to them all reminds of the impact the US fusion group had. At first they were improvisational experts and free-jazz experimenters who eventually veered towards a more funky, r&b tinged sound. They always used the latest synth technology alongside the likes of Wayne Shorter's superb sax sounds. Their self titled album very much announced their arrival as a stunning avant guard debut in 1971. It was brave and brazen and full of imagination from a gifted set of musicians.

Review: In all honesty, moving straight from the rousing, slightly grinding wall of sound with which 'We Are The Beautiful' signs off, into the lunging bass of a stomping Spooky dub edit of the same track, is both unexpected and a bit jarring. The noisy end of shoegaze-leaning indie into pared back prog-hued tech house from one of the all-time masters, anyone? But then that's kind of the point we want to celebrate.

Chapterhouse may only just be getting the reappraisal they deserve now, over a decade after their last and rather brief reunion tour (with She's A Vision also hitting our shelves early-2023), but their influence on heads and artists alike was significant. Debut album Whirlpool, for example, remains for many a high point of the entire shoegaze movement. Here are three more tracks to prove that point, and one belting - if sonically isolated - remix.

Review: Charles Strite might have invented the toaster, but it was U Roy who invented toasting. The first ever album from reggae legend U Roy aka. Ewart Beckford - three years before his self-titled debut-debut - Version Galore first appeared on Treasure Isle, and was a gleaming cornucopia of all the rocksteady singles he'd been releasing and performing since at least 1969. The album is emblematic of Beckford's distinctive rap-singing over the beat, known as 'toasting', a hallmark of all reggae-adjacent sounds to this day.

Venice: Infinitely Avant-Garde is a documentary which celebrates the unique history, culture and qualities of one of the most iconic cities in the world. To match the high art which spills out of the subject matter, the film's producers turned to Polish pianist, composer and singer Hania Rani. Her playing style is minimal and delicate, and she drew upon extended visits and explorations of Venice and its museums to create a fitting accompaniment to the film. Whether you have seen the film or not, this is a compelling collection of piano pieces with subtle modern touches which speak to Rani's accomplished career to date.

Review: Nazareth, Buffalo, Uriah Heap, Genesis, Black Sabbath, China, Razorlight, Chase & Status, Metallica - the list of huge names that have recorded for, and released on, Vertigo is very long, very established and unarguably impressive. But it all started with this rather trippy adventure into the then-unchartered landscape of a nascent, acid-hued rock & roll scene. Valentyne Suite is, if borrowed memory serves, a wonderful summary of just how fertile and explorative guitar music had become by 1969. At times it's cacophonous, in other moments almost ritualistic in its hypnotising layers and movements. The vocals are gruff, riffs wailing, but the overall feeling is one of lucidity and evolution. You can almost see the loose white clothing flailing in your mind's eye. A forgotten classic from a time when it was, apparently, pretty easy for things to be forgotten.

Review: By the time Bootsy Collins' fifth album 'Ultra Wave' had been released in 1980, the iconoclastic funk freakazoid had moved away from the straight-up funk stompers made as part of the Rubber Band, and had begun to move in a more experimental direction. Produced by one George Clinton, this album was a light-hearted, starry, guitar-twinging and glittering strummer, with lead hits such as 'Mug Push' laying down its undeniable partystarting mood.

Review: Veteran US hard rockers Blue Oyster Cult often existed just outside the mainstream success of their peers, bar the odd crossover hit. The line-up changed over the years but they were arguably at their peak in the early 70s, as you can hear on this their second album. 50 years on, it's still a kick-ass collection of tunes that keep the tempo up, the riffs rolling and plenty of space for some wailing solos. There was space for freakier tunes such as the organ-soaked 'Screaming Diz-Busters' and lean and mean blues workouts like 'Baby Ice Dog', but on Tyranny & Mutation they were always reliably rocking out.

Review: Dutch band Golden Earring scored a huge hit in 1982 with 'Twilight Zone.' It's inspired by The Bourne Identity book and spent over six months in the US Pop Charts and was the band's only No. 1 hit in America when it hit the top spot on the Billboard Top Album Tracks chart. The band's guitarist George Kooymans wrote the tune and shares vocal responsibilities with Barry Hay. It's as big as pop rock gets with its soaring chords and big drums, and on the flip is 'When The Lady Smiles' which is another classic 80s anthem.

Review: Christopher O'Riley Plays Radiohead is an album that is now 20 years old and so gets a special anniversary release to mark the occasion. It comes in limited quantities via Music on Vinyl on crystal clear vinyl. All of the indie giants' best known moments are tackled by O'Riley in fine style as he brings new drama and melancholy to tracks like 'Everything In Its Right Place' and 'Subterranean Homesick Alien.' These remain largely fairly faithful to the original arrangements but ebb and flow in new ways because of being played don piano and will appeal to fans of Radiohead as well as those who might not have liked the originals.

Review: The 1978 collaborative project between American jazz pianist Joanne Brackeen and Japanese jazz fusion guitarist Ryo Kawasaki was a duet studio album that showed Brackeen in a new light, brought out by who can only be described as the master of jazz fusion. The keys feel light, whimsical and less precise than Brackeen's previous outings, 'Trinkets & Things' being more free-flowing and resulting in an exciting sound well deserved of a limited audiophile re-release for its upcoming 45th birthday, on heavyweight and numbered vinyl. This will be remembered as one of the best jazz pressings of the year.

Review: After the meandering 80s years of his career, Alice Cooper streamlined his sound and thrust back into the premier league of heavy metal legends with Trash. Originally released in 1989 and sounding as killer as it did upon release, it's the album which brought the world one of Cooper's biggest hits, 'Poison'. Beyond the headlines, there's scores more slammers on this record from 'House Of Fire' to 'Bed Of Nails', not to mention to Southern rock get-down of the title track. Now Music On Vinyl have given it a freshen up and repressed it on blue and red vinyl.

Review: When it comes to classical and orchestral worlds things often look painfully whitewashed and very male dominated, at least in so far as conduction goes. Talk about understatements. Enter Jongnic Bontemps, one name on a growing list of incredible talent changing that stereotype up for the better. Schooled in church and jam music, formally educated in classical, to date he has been responsible for no less than 50 significant projects spanning video games, cinema, TV series, shorts and documentary films. His contribution to Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is emblematic of his dexterity, a collection that shifts between bombastic and high tech, machines supporting brass and string crescendos, then quiet, patient, and at times tense work, marking him out as a true musical storyteller extraordinaire.

Review: Recorded in Florida's iconic Morrisound Studios, the second full-length from progressive power metal titans, Crimson Glory, is often heralded as, not only the band's finest accomplishment, but a high watermark for the scene overall. Cosmic and ambitious, the original 1988 release was inspired by the works of Edgar Allen Poe as well as exuding a central focus on mysticism and divinity, with a Kabbalistic Tree of Life even adorning the back cover. Noted for its unique recording technique, in which drummer Dana Burnell performed live drums into a synclavier without any cymbals, before re-recording the cymbal takes later in order to maintain a complete dichotomy between the two; the crispness of the impressive percussion may have served as a complicated, arduous process, but its pristine attention to detail still shines through over three decades on.

Their most successful album was their self-titled third long player in 1973 - the first Williams featured on. It went gold in the US and has their most well-known single 'So Very Hard to Go' alongside plenty of other silky soul sounds that go from the downbeat and string-laced wallowings of 'Will I Ever Find A Love?' to the more funky and upbeat grooves of 'Get Yo' Feet Back On The Ground.'

It all comes to an end with a sixth and final series on Netflix right about now so why not keep the magic of it in your life by copping the official soundtrack to it, which was crafted by the one and only ambient pioneer and long time electronic genres, Brian Eno. Starting off with the iconic 'Top Boy Theme' the 19-track selection also includes two pieces that were never actually used in any episode of the show itself, and one of them is 'Cutting Room I' which is as darken moody as rest of these majestic scene-setters.

Review: Heatwave's cult classic debut album Too Hot to Handle is a glorious ode to funk-disco sounds from the American outfit. It was recorded from 1975 to 1976 and arrived that same year in the UK, a year later in the Us, and remains a much-loved album all these decades later. The Dayton., Ohio-formed band features well over 10 different members in its time but this album was written exclusively by songwriter/keyboardist Rod Temperton who hooked up with the band when the founding member, Johnnie Wilder, had relocated to London, England after being in the services and based in West Germany.

Review: Candy Dulfer cooked up a magical blend of jazz, disco, soul, dance, and r&b from across the ages with this album, which was originally released in 2017. Candy has worked with some of popular music's biggest stars after first shooting to fame more than a quarter of a century ago with Dave Stewart and their #1 worldwide hit 'Lily Was Here'. She has also been named checked by Prince who sang "When I want sax, I call Candy" in the video to 'Partyman.' With Together she offered her own view on the state of all these sounds and more with plenty of catchy vocal hooks, danceable grooves and timeless production that radiates warmth.

Review: James Horner's Titanic soundtrack has become a classic in its own right, but it's certainly been a good while since it saw any proper release. Thankfully, it's now the 25th Anniversary of the astonishingly sad film, and as ever, this new reissue sees us reminded of Horner's impressive ability to wrench out just about every tear that could possibly be wrought from our ducts (and they're deep!). Classic string movements and a near-universally recognisable lead motif capture the grandeur and tragedy of the ship's story. Plus, longtime fans will be delighted at the news of an included eight-page booklet on the film and score, a well as a poster.

The record won the United Nations's Time For Peace award for outstanding artistic achievement and for "contributing to world peace." It features standout tunes like 'People Get Ready' and 'Brotherly Love' composed by Curtis Mayfield, as well as a guest spot from Pharoah Sanders on tenor-saxophone on the title song 'Timepeace' and seven other wondrous tunes that showcase soul, jazz, folk influences. This reissue includes an insert with lyrics and liner-notes by Tom Terrell.

Review: The second full-length from New Jersey thrash metal outfit Whiplash arrived courtesy of Roadrunner in 1987, a mere year after their breakneck paced debut 'Power & Pain'. At this point in the late 80s the scene already had genre classics such as Metallica's 'Master Of Puppets' and Slayer's 'Reign In Blood' to contend with, making it a free for all of pummeling thrash acts doing their utmost to not get lost in the ether. While some often cite 1989's 'Insult To Injury' as the total showcasing of their prowess, Ticket To Mayhem is testament (no pun intended) to the myriad of vital bands that kept the thrash movement pulsing beneath the major heights and laurels of a select few, with Whiplash finally receiving the praise and credence they had initially earned so many decades prior.

His 1997 album This Is Not A Love Song came at the heart of the acid jazz explosion and remains one of its most vital works. It was his fourth album in a career that has produced nine overall and has plenty of his signature grooves, from the jazz flecked 'This Is Not A Love Song' to the -soul stylings of 'Wherever' via his spine tingling cover of the classic 'Golden Brown'. This is a limited and numbered 180 gram audiophile gold & black marbled vinyl reissue on Music on Vinyl with new a insert.

Review: Dial up the doctor for a dose of P funk heat, and you won't need a spoonful of sugar to help this particular medicine go down. Bootsy Collins is one of the true fundamentals of the Parliament-Funkadelic phenomenon, and he delivered some equally essential entries into the canon as any of the George Clinton classics. This Boot Is Made For Fonk'n' beamed down to earth from the mothership in 1979, when the collective's talents were at their peak, as proven by the presence of Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, Garry Shider and Bernie Worrell on the credits and Clinton on the mixing desk. From the slippery psychedelia of 'Under The Influence Of A Groove' to the low sung sleaze of 'Jam Fan (Hot)', this is P funk at its best.

Sing It Back (Boris musical mix)
Review: Moloko's third album was a landmark success for the firecracker partnership of Roisin Murphy and Mark Brydon, and it saw them break through from cult favourites to chart-topping champions. Admittedly, a lot of that success was thanks to Boris Dlugosh doing a savvy remix of 'Sing It Back' from their previous album I Am Not A Doctor, but it was all the encouragement the public needed to latch onto Moloko's charms, and follow-up hit 'The Time Is Now' cemented their reputation. Balancing deep-rooted club nous and cavalier flair with a strong pop backbone, Things To Make And Do is every inch a millennial classic and it's not aged a jot.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

Prog rock in the truest sense, with The Tangent hailing from the curiously surrealist northern English music scene, where so many space cadets, dreamers of dreams, and sonic explorers have emerged out of. Take that as you will - it's not for us to start guessing why one of the most economically disenfranchised parts of Britain has a tendency to encourage insane imaginations - The World That We Drive Through is typically escapist stuff from the outfit in question.

First unveiled in 2004, two years after The Tangent got together and around 12 months - give or take - following their debut album, it certainly set out a stall at the time. Weird musical-esque balladry complete with flute, insane blues-hued riff-a-thons, keyboard-driven atmospheric tomes, and metal-edged, grinding-yet-funky fare, it's varied and littered with big ideas.

I realised that those things that deflect me from social situations - not getting along with your coach or your boss or whatever - it made me realise I had to choose a different path."It is a highly creative work of experimental electronic which has since seen her go on to your 35 countries. Review: Paul Young had already spent plenty of time in the game fronting The Q Tips before he broke out solo in the early 80s, but it was this album which took him to the top of the charts in 1985. Finding a unique niche between soul, funk, rock and pop, it was the gravelly bite of his voice which hit home with the fans, yielding hit after hit. 'Every Time You Go Away' and 'I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down' are the big bangers, but the rest of the album is packed full of classics too. This special extended edition of the album comes with extended versions, live tracks and other obscurities to delight the fans.

Review: The Fall's Mark E. Smith was having a rather torrid time even by his own standards when the band made The Marshall Suite in 1999. He was fresh back from a US tour on which he had been fighting with fellow band members on stage and was later arrested after carrying on the shenanigans back at the hotel. The album itself builds on the techno sounds The Fall had explored on the preceding album Levitate but also with something of a return to the rockabilly-influenced sound from earlier Fall line-ups. Cuts like 'The Crying Marshal' are as strange and complex as they come with thumping jungle drums powering it along.

Review: The Light User Syndrome was the 18th - yes, 18th, record from legendary alternate outfit The Fall. It came on Jet Records in 1996 at a time when the legendary band leader Mark E. Smith was at his most alcoholically antagonistic. As such it was a difficult time for the band but one that still bore fruit with Smith on most of the vocals but producer and performer Mike Bennett, drummer Karl Burns and guitarist Brix Smith also stepped up to the mic. Angular rhythms feature as always next to funny lyrics and unusually clean production.

Review: .Hollywood heavyweight James Newton Howard has turned his hand to a wide variety of movie soundtrack styles in his tenure as one of the go-to names for Hollywood scores. Allow us a moment to reel off the names, or a few of them at least: Pretty Woman, The Fugitive, Space Jam, The Sixth Sense - a list that could go on, and on, but you get the point. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes sits at the more pomp and ceremony-filled end of things, epic classical overtures that invoke a sense of adventure, overcoming adversity, mild peril and inner strength. Even when heard without the visual accompaniment of the film itself you can't get away from those feelings, making for a rousing and compelling listening experience.

The Essential Philip Glass is a bumper collection of his best works that is not only great value across a mega eight sides of heavyweight vinyl, but is also a superb listen. It takes in the best and most magical selections from his album such as Naqoyqatsi, Einstein On The Beach, Satyagraha, Akhnaten and many more.

Fronted by leader Joe Zawinul, the ensemble evolved subtly throughout their career and it was in 1974 that they dropped this album, Sweetnighter. It proved to be a little more funky and influenced by the emerging t&b of the day than its predecessors and it is also noted for being the last long player the band cut with original bassist Miroslav Vitous, as well as being the band's first album to make it into the Top 100 in the US charts of the day. It sodas as good now as ever on this nice heavyweight vinyl pressing.

It is often said to be the first rap full length and it came in 1980, a full four-plus decades ago now so gets a special, if possibly slighty late, 40th-anniversary reissue on limited edition and numbered heavyweight vinyl. It, of course, includes the band's most seminal tune, 'Rapper's Delight', in two different versions, as well as equally timeless joints like 'Rapper's Reprise (Jam-Jam)' and the much loved 'Sugar Hill Groove'. A bona fide classic, this one.

Woman Of The World (6:51)
Review: Donald Byrd's Street Lady was released originally in 1973, and at that point the American great had already penned some 20 odd albums. But the 70s marked his move into the funkier side of things and to this day, this album remains one of his most widely loved and important. It's a rich source of samples for a wide range of artists and the opening tune was used smartly by Detroit great Theo Parrish, while tunes like 'Miss Kane' and 'Sister Love' are still huge. Street Lady is as iconic now as it was back first time around with the same going for the experimental sounds of 'Witch Hunt, while 'Woman Of The World' ends on a gentle, euphoric stride.

Review: Some 30 years after it was recorded, Das EFX's acclaimed (and long out-of-print) second album, Straight Up Sewaside, finally returns to vinyl. This is undoubtedly a good thing, because many rap connoisseurs consider it to be influential duo's most impressive full-length. It's certainly an early '90s East Coast classic; a "golden-era" gem which saw the pair slow down their previously high-octane, stream of consciousness rap style and strut their stuff over brilliant beats that bear all the hallmarks of executive producer PMD (he of the Hit Squad and EPMD fame). For those of a certain age, it's a highly evocative album, while younger hip-hop heads will marvel at the quality of the brilliant blend of boom-bap, hardcore hip-hop and sample-heavy New York brilliance.

Review: Swiss hard rock and heavy metal band Krokus are one of the outfits with a cult following who worship their every move. As such this Best Of might not be for them but instead serves as a great overview for newly curious fans. Stayed Awake All Night / The Best Of Krokus compiles their greatest hits and most lively rock riffs from tunes they made between 1982 and 1986 and it originally came in 1989. It shows them to be a band who know how to write a hook and thrash out a rhythm and sits them up there alongside the likes of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.

Review: For most Star Wars fans, the spin-off series' and standalone films have been some of the best additions to the franchise. Now you can savour some of the excellent soundtrack work from those additions to the canon on one classily presented compilation. There are pieces from The Madalorian, Rogue One and Solo which will plunge you back into the expanded Star Wars universe, whether that's the good times with Grogu or tense missions with Jyn Erso you're reminded of. Presented in a gatefold sleeve and pressed onto 180 gram vinyl, this is a collectors' edition, no doubt about it.

Review: The genius of trumpeter, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Theo Croker's work has always been his ability to meld more traditional spiritual jazz sounds - not to mention modal and post-bop - with elements of contemporary soul, R&B and hip-hop. "Star People Nation", Croker's first album for three years, continues this approach, flitting between starry, decidedly intergalactic workouts ("Have You Come To Stay", "Subconscious Flirtations & Titillations"), seductive vocal numbers (the twinkling jazz-soul of the Rose Gold voiced "Getaway Gold"), deep, head-nodding jams ("Wide Open", "Portrait Of William") and fizzing dancefloor escapades (the brilliant "Just Let It Ride" and off-kilter Afro-jazz epic "Alkebulan").

Review: Spiral was originally released in 1973 as the crowning glory of Harry Roche and his Constellation ensemble. It's a masterpiece of psychedelic, instrumental jazz funk which should hugely appeal to fans of David Axelrod, Piero Umilani and the like. It's no surprise the original copies of this album had been changing hands for crazy money on the second hand market place - it's got holy grail written all over it. This edition for Music On Vinyl comes pressed on 180 gram white wax, all the better to soak up the massive, groovy takes on tracks like 'Pinball Wizard' and 'Lay Lady Lay'.
