Review: The Hartnoll Brothers have decided to remaster and reissue their eponymous 1991 debut album - frequently referred to as 'The Green' album for obvious reasons. Amongst the numerous editions is this delicious box set, which compliments the fantastic original album (stretched across two slabs of wax), with a slipmat, a 60-page hardback book of photos and fresh liner notes, and an additional double-album of rarities and unreleased cuts from the period. It's this latter item, which includes B-sides, non-album singles (hello 'Satan') and sought-after remixes (Sasha's legendary version of 'Midnight' and the barely known 'Rhyme and Reason' take on 'Satan'), which makes the box set so alluring to fans. Classic Tones with Vintage Mode

Introduced in 1982, the OC-2 was the world's first modern octave pedal for guitar and bass. Still loved by players everywhere, the stomp's warm-yet-present tone sits perfectly in a mix, and its characteristic voice can be heard in many famous songs. The OC-5's Vintage mode brings you the OC-2's iconic mono sound, coupled with improved response thanks to the new tracking engine. Dedicated level controls are provided for -1 and -2 octave effects and the direct sound, giving you quick access to an endless variety of sub-octave colours.

Enhanced Poly Mode

The OC-5 also features an evolved version of the smart Poly mode first introduced with the OC-3 Super Octave, letting you play full chords with octave effects. The variable Range knob restricts the effect to the lower notes on your instrument, perfect for playing octave bass lines alongside normal chords and melodies in the higher registers. And with the new tracking refinements, it's even possible to isolate the octave effect to the bottom note in a chord-just turn the Range knob to the "Lowest" setting.

Extended Range with Octave Up

Another cool OC-5 enhancement is the new octave-up effect, which is available in both Vintage and Poly modes. Simply twist the dedicated +1 OCT knob to bring in the desired effect level. Use the octave-up effect on its own for faux 12-string sounds and unique solo tones, or blend it with the octave-down effects for extended chord voicings and super-fat leads.

Guitar/Bass Switch and Direct Out

The OC-5 lets you instantly optimize the performance of its tracking engine for either guitar or bass via a dedicated switch on the body of the pedal. Notes: 'Nude' super-elliptical stylus of just 7.6 x 18 microns (0.3 x 0.7 mil), cut and polished from a single homogeneous piece of diamond. This makes for a lower effective tip mass of improved rigidity, which in turn means its ability to retrieve high-frequency detail is dramatically improved when compared to the 'bonded' elliptical stylus alternative. It's far less likely to 'mis-track' or overshoot when tracing high-frequency groove modulations, and because of its finely polished 7.6-micron profile it can more effectively fit into closely packed inner grooves. Notes: For the Fundamental Series, Walrus Audio challenged themselves to design a set of pedals with the tonal integrity that's required to live on a professional's pedalboard, but with simplified controls friendly enough for even the newest effect pedal users. Each Fundamental pedal has three faders for tweaking the sound and a three-way switch for changing pedal modes. The result is a line of pedals that will keep you covered from your first band practice all the way to a sold-out arena. Designed and assembled at Walrus Audio headquarters in OKC, OK.

Because vast ambient sounds shouldn't just be for larger pedals with vast price points, the Fundamental Ambient brings expansive pillowy reverb to the Fundamental Series with three atmospheric modes in a compact size. The Fundamental Ambient offers a great entry point into ambient exploration with the tonal integrity to live on a professional's pedalboard but with simplified controls friendly enough for even the newest effect pedal users. With Ambient's three reverb algorithms, you can experiment with deep, dark pad-like sounds to AM Radio-like lo-fi sounds with the flip of a switch.

The Fundamental Ambient provides three different atmospheric reverb algorithms to explore beautifully vast and lush soundscapes with plenty of decay time for pillowy soft pad-like decay.

Modes:

Deep - A dark ambient reverb with an added low octave, perfect for creating murky, cavernous sustain or adding a touch of moody atmosphere.
Lush - A breathy, expansive reverb featuring ultra-long sustain. Perfect for generating silky pads and immersive soundscapes with every note.
Haze - A textured, lo-fi reverb featuring distortion, sample rate reduction, and a resonant bandpass tone control, great for vintage or experimental tones.
Decay: Control the amount of reverb decay time. Left is the minimum and right is the maximum amount of time.
Tone: Shapes the overall tonality of the reverb. On Deep and Lush this controls the cutoff of a synth-style lowpass filter. On Haze this controls the width of a resonant bandpass filter, filtering both high and low end at the right, and allowing more high and low to pass through at the left.
Mix: Control the mix of the effect and the original clean signal. All the way to the left outputs only the fully clean signal, and all the way to the right outputs only the affected Reverb signal.
Slide Switch - The slide switch allows you to change between three distinct Reverb algorithms.

Trails Mode - The Fundamental Ambient Reverb comes with trails mode active by default, to disengage trails mode hold down the bypass stomp switch when applying power to the pedal. Once the LED flashes it indicates that trails mode is turned off. To re-engage trails mode, repeat the process, and wait for the LED to turn dark, indicating that trails mode is back on. With trails mode active, your reverb decay will fade off naturally after turning the pedal off. With trails mode inactive, the decay abruptly cuts off when you turn off the pedal.

Notes: Introducing the DD-8, the most wide-ranging and feature-rich BOSS compact series delay ever. This loaded pedal delivers more of everything-more great sounds, more delay time, more control options, and more connectivity. And it does it all in a standard BOSS pedal that slides easily into any mono or stereo setup. Eleven modes provide delay colours from basic to exotic, plus a looper with unlimited overdub capability and external control support. For maximum versatility in a minimum amount of space, there's no better delay stomp than the DD-8.

Equipped with a diverse selection of delays, the DD-8 packs impressive sonic range into one small pedal. Clean digital delays, vintage analogue and tape types, and modulation echo are available, plus specialty delays like shimmer and reverse. There's a new Warm type for softer echo tones, and a +RV type that blends delay and reverb together. Warp is perfect for dynamic ambient textures, while the new GLT type is great for glitchy rhythmic effects.

Everything sounds bigger and better in stereo, and the DD-8 delivers with full stereo I/O support and your choice of three output modes. The default independent mode provides linked parallel delays on the left and right channels, allowing you to maintain the true balance of stereo input sources in the effect sound. There's also a panning mode for ping-pong delay effects, and a wide stereo mode for enhanced spatial depth.

The DD-8's extensive real-time delay options help bring your music to life. You can tap in tempos with the onboard pedal switch, and control the Warp and GLT modes for unique expressive effects. Adding one or two footswitches unlocks more creative possibilities, like on-demand tap tempo, extended looper control, and a cool Twist effect for soaring echo sounds. Alternately, an expression pedal can be used for continuous control of level, feedback, or delay time-or all of them at once.

Having a looper on your pedalboard is a handy thing-it's great for practice, checking sounds at gigs, and creating on-the-fly backing while performing. The DD-8's looper mode has you covered, so you don't have to take up precious space with a dedicated pedal. All looper functions can be controlled with the onboard switch, providing all-in-one operation. But if you prefer to work with extended controls, just connect one or two footswitches to operate the looper's stop and clear functions externally.

The DD-8's inputs and outputs have smart functionality, allowing you to set the pedal for any application simply by connecting cables in different ways. A variety of mono and stereo connections are supported, including discrete dry and effect outputs for wet/dry setups. It's even possible to defeat the dry signal entirely, perfect for delay-only blending in a parallel effects loop.

Each channel of MapVolt can operate in either Polarizer or Attenuator mode, allowing manual control via knobs or CV signals. Notes: You've been up all night in a bidding war on eBay to win a prized 80s rack effect unit - you can't wait to add some serious cheese to your tracks, and the sound of gated reverbs ring in your ears. Your heart pounds, and your pulse rises to crescendo as you win the auction! But there is one problem: your Eurorack system runs way too hot to simply plug straight into your stereo FX units. Your heart sinks, as you realize there is not much you can do that doesn't involve a lot of messing around with complicated and weird mono modules. That is, until now: introducing the Herzlich SFXI.

The Stereo FX Integrator was designed in response to my own need: owning several cool stereo FX units, and having no easy way to integrate them with an easy send and return, in my Eurorack system. Attenuate your Eurorack signals down to line level, or even all the way down to instrument level, and get a nice, clean boost back up to modular levels, with this dead simple and highly useful device from the R&D department at Herzlich Labs.

You can even use it to integrate external stereo line level signals into your Eurorack, which is both nice and convenient, and also useful. Finally, you have an easy way to get the sound of your JV1080 into your Clouds.

The scientists have been working overtime to produce this unit, and were fed extra rations of maize and millet gruel just to bring you this circuit. Notes: R2M is module 1 of a pair of two 2 HP modules that allow you to connect a chain of controllers to your DROID master through a standard 3.5 mm stereo cable (sometimes also called aux-cable).

The usual idea is that you put all your DROID controllers into a skiff case and mount your DROID master, X7 and G8 into another case, together with all your fancy Eurorack sound modules.

R2C is module 2 of a pair of two 2 HP modules that allow you to connect a chain of controllers to your DROID master through a standard 3.5 mm stereo cable (sometimes also called aux-cable).

The usual idea is that you put all your DROID controllers into a skiff case and mount your DROID master, X7 and G8 into another case, together with all your fancy Eurorack sound modules.

While you could do this with the typical 6-pin ribbon connector (e.g. the 80 cm version that we offer), using the R2M/R2C combination has some serious advantages:

The connection cable can be almost arbitrary long (20 m have been tested and works perfectly).

Since the connection is done on the front of the modules, you can quickly disconnect your skiff for the purpose of travelling to a gig.

You can use a standard 3.5 mm stereo TRS cable for the connection.

These modules are not just passive connectors but contain special driver ICs that transform the electronic voltage levels, which run in the 6-pin ribbon, to something more stable and reliable that is fit for longer distances in a more hostile environment.

The controllers do not receive their power from the master but from the R2C module, which has a power connector and a voltage regulator for that purpose. Each chain of the R2C module provides the same power to its controller chain as the master does (it contains the identical voltage regulator). That means that you can connect up to 32 controllers (!) to one R2C.

Another nice thing: The R2M/R2C combination allows for two of these master / controller connections in parallel. That means that you can have two masters being attached to their individual controller chains. That does not mean, that each of the masters can access each of the controllers at the same time, however. Both master / controller connections work completely separately.

The dark, lush, moody tones of the ever-popular PT2399 IC provide an out-of-this-world experience. Our take on this classic pedal pushes the chip's limits so you can explore all the gritty elements drifting at the edge of long delay rates. It already outperforms other bucket brigade style echoes, but just to be sure, we added 2 momentary switches, Zone and Warp.

Dark, rich sounds with the analogue vibe of a tape echo.

Uses the PT2399 IC, a bucket brigade style emulation. This IC has 16-bit sampling for 30-300 milliseconds. After that, the sample rate goes down in relation to the delay length. This results in artifacts and noise being introduced into the audio for weird, cosmic, psychedelic sounds.

Delay length: 30ms-1,250ms

3 knobs: Feedback, Mix and Rate. The Mix is a wet-only control that attenuates the amount of delayed signal in the signal chain. The Rate controls the number of repeats in an organic-sounding way.

Warp button: Momentary pushbutton switch that gives a bright, "small speaker" tone.

Zone button: Momentary pushbutton switch that introduces feedback into the circuit momentarily. Great for adding rhythmic feedback and other strange sounds. The Zone amount can be adjusted by an internal trim pot.

Pedal may have a slight volume drop.

Notes: MOOER burst onto the music products scene in 2010 and has been impressing guitarists ever since. However, the company has expanded it's horizons this year with its VP vocal processing pedal series. The MVP2 Harmonier is a powerful example of this - it's a versatile and innovative vocal processor pedal designed to elevate both vocal and guitar performance, offering tonal precision, creativity, and convenience in one compact pedal.

At its core, the pedal offers a versatile pitch harmonizer effect. The 'Key' dial allows users to choose to harmonize their important with any note in the chromatic scale, with the 'Sharp' LED button being used to select sharp notes. Once chosen, the 'Mode' dial facilitates further customization, offering 11 different harmony modes that control the harmony's interval. This includes all classic intervals such as octaves, fifths, and thirds.

The 'Level' dial adjusts the volume of the harmonizer effect, but Harmonier offers even further tonal flexibility thanks to its reverb function. Users can press and hold the 'Sharp' button while rotating the 'Level' dial, which allows them to adjust the volume of the pedal's internal reverb module. Review: Arther Baker's Dance Masters series continues, as the spotlight turns to another remix legend: one of the originators of the form, John Luongo. Regarded as one of the most influential DJs and mixers of his day, Luongo's many credits include remixes of Jackie Moore's 'This Time Baby', 'Vertigo / Relight My Fire' by Dan Hartman and Patti Labelle's 'Music Is My Way Of Life'. Review: The Cocoon alphabet compilation is an always timely snapshot of the year in techno that was. It's well-curated by label head Sven Vath and always digs into several different sub-genres with a knowing skill. Now up to letter U, it is still going strong as we dive into everything from the soft and dreamy acid-laced deep techno delights of New Jackson's 'Acid Jackson' to the more bright and intense sounds of Jakob Reiter's 'Il Rotori'. Drumcomplex & Frank Sonic provide more epic peak time moments with 'Lacalute' and Space Dimension Controller's deft synth flourishes on 'Cold Tunings' make for a gorgeous high-speed techno trip.

The features of both modules are nearly the same. The main difference is the clearly reduced front panel width of the A-105-2 (4HP instead of 8HP) and the associated changes of the controls and sockets positions.
