Missile Records founder Tim Taylor crafted this banger back in 1992 and released it on the legendary FFRR imprint. Review: ScruScru is a name you might well recognise but it is fair to say you might not recognise his work on this first release from Talkbox. He shows a very different side off the back of plenty of top edits that bottle up plenty of disco and Bossanova vibes. Here he has teamed up with Russia's dubplate don BR Selecta for an EP full of energy and joy. 'YEAH YEAH' is happy-go-lucky garage with pitched-up vocals and lively drum, 'Get My Gruv' is a kinetic two-stepper and 'Cyberrave' is just that with its all-out synth madness and flurries of breaks, then 'Serious Talking' closes out on a darker jungle tip. A varied and vital 12' for sure.

He manages to fuse organic and synthetic materials here as he heads down a darkly introspective path where minimal and IDM, dub and techno all collide in mutant form. 'Jangil' is a real standout with its bubbling halftime rhythms and icy synths backed by distant angelic chorals. Review: By 1997 Photek had already marked himself out as a wild card in the rapidly evolving d&b scene. He'd had three years to carve out some frankly dizzying displays of break editing wizardry and such was the innovation on display there just had to be an album coming. Modus Operandi smartly stepped to one side of the dancefloor, offering a smoky reflection on where jungle and d&b had got to, highlighting the compatibility between half-speed downtempo and breakneck drums and bringing inherent jazziness to the forefront of the beats, which avoided all the usual cliches. It's a masterpiece which hasn't dulled with time and here it's getting a heavyweight reissue across three slabs to ensure the loudest cut. All the better to blow your mind with, all over again.

It's an EP inspired by the sound of the English club scene in the nineties and noughties, labels like Good Looking Records and artists such as Mike Millrain. Review: A welcome and precious addition to the new 'Legends' series by V Recordings, 'Lionheart' is a tune made with friend and equal talent Berty B, that has existed since 1994 and is famous for its opening "ready? get set... music!" sample and vinyl-spinback oneshots. It's a nigh-timeless track that straddles raggatek, jump-up and jungle techno in almost a single breath. Much later came the VIP (variation in production), which added far glossier and more heavenly variations and a harder-edged sheen. Now it gets a reissue. Also here comes the brand new VIP of 'Love 4 You', which is a masterclass in airy, spacious intro-work, which segues into pure drum-driving as per the formula.

Review: London-based producer Otik releases his first album Cosmosis on Martyn's label 3024. The 11-track LP signifies the fourth album on the imprint across its ten-year tenure, showcasing a more introspective side to Otik's musical output. The album leans into delicate melodies, hazy atmospheres and lush analogue sounds, often evoking blissed-out feels and ripples of brilliant colour. Produced three years ago during lockdown, Cosmosis comes after a period of spiritual struggles, where Otik questioned his faith, religious beliefs, and the concepts of right and wrong. While the pandemic allowed ample time for reflection, Otik translated these thoughts into music from his Peckham-based studio, later finding a home on 3024's evolving discography. Keen to release a body of work that explores the journey of enlightenment and the struggles to get there, Otik drew inspiration from the luminary filmmaker Terrence Malick and how Malick portrayed ideas and philosophies in films like The Tree of Life and Voyage of Time. As a result, the record conveys a compelling narrative of rebirth, told through exquisite sound design and a push-pull pace that oscillates across the album.

Review: Calibre's brand new drum & bass album Rudy comes in a minty-fresh contrapuntal breath, following hot on the heels of a new white label reissue of his earliest and most enduring works from the mid-to-late 1990s. The sudden time-warp back into the present day proves just how far he has come since then, yet also just how much he has retained what worked, too; Rudy begins in an orthodox liquid jungle fashion with the likes of 'Stunted', before breaking away into impressionistic vocal free-associations like 'The Game' (with Dominic Martin) and halftime reese-swellers like 'Heaven'. Ranging from poppy motifs that are reminiscent perhaps of Roxy Music or Visage to more introverted electronica that nods at the Rephlex sound and perhaps Si Begg, all backed up by his history as Heartdrive and the Autonomic sound, this is dBridge looking back to look forward. Lowering the tempo just a smidgeon, he's found himself painting from a vibrant palette that isn't governed by the tight rules of drum & bass, aligning himself more with the Biceps and Special Requests of the world and the sounds really shine as a result. Review: Did you know that Iceland had its own rather influential rave scene back in the 1990s? Whatever the answer to that question, you will want to check out this first-ever collection of anthems from that era which is now on vinyl for the first time. This collection came on Thule offshoot label TMT Entertainment as a CD in 1992 and features memorable and timeless tracks from back then, many of them now with cult status. It's called Alsaela, which translates as "ecstasy" and gives you some idea of what to expect from it. It features a non-stop selection of old school rave alongside some lost and previously unavailable classics by Agzilla & DJ L.S.K and some unreleased gems from AJAX. A great bit of history that still does the trick.

Review: Man like Skeppy doing the gosh-darned thing! Swinging high from the Rubi rafters, his new label hits the 002 release with heavyweight charm and dark soulful panache. 'Rhubarb' is the dreamy cut of the bunch, easing us in gently with its gentle swirling strings, before 'Capsize' pushes us deep under the water with its robust murky militancy. Finally we have 'Foiled'. A classic minimal Skeppy set-up with a little nod towards the traditional jump-up sound, it's yet another open-and-shut case at the Rubi supreme court today.

Review: ASC can't really do any wrong if you ask us, whether crafting suspensory ambient or laying down killer jungle cuts. It's the latter which he does here for the Spatial label in the form of this great looking multi-colour splatter vinyl. 'Infinity' has you adrift in the cosmos on dusty amen breaks, then '2097' is a tight and kinetic number with mystic lead and yelping vocal fragments. There is yet more deep space mystery to the melodies of 'What Lies Beneath' then humid closer 'Rainforest' has watery droplets falling down physical drum breaks that make you move your hole body.
