Pimping People In High Places (reissue)
Cat: DET 313R. Rel: 29 Jan 24

Minimal House/Tech House
Pimping People In High Places (Woodword Ave alternative mix) (6:51)
The Medusa Touch (6:51)
Review: The Det 313 label is kicking off the new year with a bang and dropping a pair of brilliant new EPs on the same day in late January. This one is a reissue of the esteemed Gary Martin's 'Pimping People In High Places' on 10". It's the Woodword Ave alternative mix that kicks off and is a rough and ready percussive techno looper with hefty basslines underlapping and propping up the floor. 'The Medusa Touch' is a more wily and synth laced-late night jaunt with mystic energy and acid details that make it a deep and dramatic cut with real dynamism.

What's That Sound
Cat: PGSP 3. Rel: 25 Jan 24

Minimal House/Tech House
What's That Sound V1 (7:39)
What's That Sound V3 (7:57)
Review: Phoenix G is of course an alias for the universally claimed rightfully adored Mr G, one of the UK's most long-serving and accomplished underground servants. His views on the game (which you can find on his Instagram) are as worth hearing as his music which this time takes him to his own self-titled label once more. As always it is deep, raw, emotive stuff that stays low but is high on emotion, however subtle. 'What's That Sound V1' is a dubbed-out and grainy basement track with scruffy drums and shards of light breaking through a broken window, then V3 of the same cut has a little more synth detail. Superb.

STLR10 1
STLR10 1 (hand-stamped 10" limited to 300 copies)
Cat: STLR10 1. Rel: 26 Jan 24

Minimal House/Tech House
Track 1 (7:06)
Track 2 (7:23)
Review: It's pure business with this new 10" from Stately which offers up two delightful dub techno explorations from Federsen. Taking care of the first side is 'STLR10 1A' which is coated in warm vinyl crackle and has deft little chords hanging above the super deep and supple drums. Add in wispy little synth circles and you have perfect head and body music. The second track is a more driving dub techno roller that calls to mind the best of Steve O'Sullivan. It's smooth, frictionless and perfectly warm for all your backroom needs.

Subcaeruleus EP (B-STOCK)
Cat: VMC 005. Rel: 01 Jan 90

Techno
Find Ya (feat Prince Morella) (8:15)
Night Drive (10:07)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Slight surface marks ***

Vade Mecum welcomes Soft Traffic for a debut release here and it is one that suggests the producer has a soft spot for the warm, deep and heady end of the dubbed out techno spectrum. Those are certainly all the words you would use to describe the quiet brilliance of opener 'Find Ya' (feat Prince Morella) which is icy cool and hypnotic. On the flipside, 'Night Drive' is another sublimely soft focus and supple techno roller with infinite horizons and milky pads that dissolve your soul. A superb debut.
