Review: Bless the Firecracker gods for their ongoing series of essential represses! The latest is their tremendous Firecracker 4 EP, originally released in 2009 and perhaps one of the Edinburgh label's definitive records - just look at all those DJs that have charted it above! Present is the absolutely epic, Dennis Parker-sampling "Barely Eagle" by Linkwood & House Of Traps on the A side plus Linkwood appearing again on the B side with his crafty edit of Tabou Combo Superstars 1979 classic "Ooh La La". Not forgetting Fudge Fingas "Situation Diminished" either; a nice, deep and smoky excursion through soulful blues territory. Not to be missed the second time around!

Review: This project will get serious attention for the inclusion of Holger Czukay from seminal 70's band Can, a perennial influence among DJ's and producers. Coming in two parts, Day and Night, both are dominated by the breathy narrative from Ursa Major (reminiscent of Patti Smith). A loose arrangement by the band evokes the road trip detailed in the song, while fans of Can won't be disappointed by the intense atmosphere created over the two songs.

Review: Deeplay Music boss man Martin Brodin launches his new MB Disco imprint with Croatian disco deity Ilija Rudman the object of some remix treatment on the inaugural release. Lifting Rudman's "See" from the Deeplay archives Brodin embellishes the track with a burning boogie strut, with overdubbed synth lines the melodic backdrop to filtered vocals and a chuggy beat. The ever mysterious Drop Out Orchestra opt for a more traditional NYC Disco flavour on their remix with low slung bass and rhythm licks in abundance amidst the glittering flourishes. With subsequent releases from the likes of Newcleus, Ray Mang and Giorgio Moroder on the horizon, Brodin's imprint is certainly one to look out for.

Review: Fledgling imprint Elevator People release their third EP, leaving Austrian born, London based Giulio DJ in charge of this lovely little 10". "Coco's Nuts" is a subtle Balearic beast, with a funky guitar riff riding shuffling drum patterns and a slow BPM. Portguese producer Social Disco Club, who can't seem to put a foot wrong at the moment, chips in with a spacey chugger on the flip. Top release.

Review: Amidst the swathe of lists that inevitably clutter up the internet each and every year, a category rising in the popularity stakes seems to be 'worst artwork', which is fair enough as there's plenty of fuel for the fire. As admirers of the arts though, we'd rather concentrate on beauty than horror, and Gallic label D-I-R-T-Y make a fashionably late play for the affections of vinyl fetishists across the world with this Extended EP from Discodeine. Arriving in a ten inch sleeve which is covered in some decidedly spectral artwork - a illustrative rendition of The Divine Comedy by Gustav Dore for the less culturally enlightened - the vinyl itself is adorned in the most attractively electric of blue colours. The music proves to be just as aesthetically pleasing with two extended versions of the duo's collaborations with two feted musicians adorning both sides. The A Side sees "Synchronised" the gloriously orchestral collaboration with Jarvis Cocker stretched to fit making this release the more bespoke attractive alternative to the rather plain house bag DJ edition released by DFA last month. This is complemented by an extended version of "Singular" which features the hushed tones of Comeme boss Matias Aguayo, exclusive to this ten inch which marks it as a highly collectable and a suitably delectable aperitif before the main course of Discodeine's debut album which gets served up in February.

Review: Veteran UK act Inland KnightS team up with Derby duo Da Sunlounge for a ninth volume of ever so slightly cheeky deep house refixes on the Borrowed imprint. "A Little Bit More" craftily reworks one of last year's most eponymous pop tracks from a peroxide hit machine that featured the rapping talents of a daisy age legend and mouthy newcomer. Heavily filtered and driven by low bass frequencies, it's one of those tracks that will make people do a double take. Complementing this on the B Side is a lolloping E Funk style rework of the best legs in the business's most famous track. The object of many a rework and re-edit by everyone from Theo Parrish to Danny Krivit over the years, it's to the credit of all involved that "Another Thing" brings something different to the table.

Review: Caparacara's fine ode to Giallo horror soundtracks was originally released last summer on the Seed X Part 3 compilation, and here it migrates to another splendid and vastly underrated UK imprint, Fine Art. Hopefully, this transition will belatedly endow the track with the recognition it deserves as "Panic Beats" is every bit as exciting as anything you might find on the recent and critically acclaimed Giza EP from Gatekeeper. An expert melding of hefty industrial textures, haunting chords, ever twisting electronic arpeggios atop a punishing EBM beat, it's a track that bears repeat listening. Diskjokke steps up to remix the track, seeming to revel in the menacing origins; crafting a reimagination filled with dizzying showers of percussion, amidst which an ever changing backdrop of gristly acid stabs and soaring heavily funked organ riffs. It's this menacing and schizophrenic rhythmic thrust that ensures this record sits well beyond the realms of pedestrian nu discoism.
