000 Baby (6:41)
000 Baby (OM Unit remix) (6:17)
Review: After many years turning out 12"s, Klasse Wrecks has decided to serve up a first-ever 10" and they give the honour to Mr. Ho. His '000 Baby' is a delightfully widescreen sound - a post-rave mix of comedown electronics, dusty breakbeats and soothing ambient pads with some smart vocal samples drifting like wispy clouds. On the flipside, we're treated to and OM Unit remix that beefs things up and speeds up the drums. The percussion too is more defined and the energy levels ramped up with deft 808 bass and searching acidic leads. A nice yin to the A-side's yang.

Review: Jurgen Paape has a brilliantly characterful sound and wrote one of our favourite silly records in 'Ofterschwang' some 13 years ago (go check it out, it's brilliant.) We're glad to hear some new music from the long time Kompakt legend and co-founder and once again it's not what you would expect. 'Allein' is a downbeat piece with oriental melodies and gently plucked strings over warm bass. It's not for the club, that is for sure, but the flip side version 'Allein In Italien' sure is. This one is a chugging and brit Italo disco number with retro 80s synth sounds and plenty of joyous grooves.

Musik For The Dancefloor (6:24)
Review: The Sushitech festivities continue unabated with this bittersweet repress of an all-time classic from the much-missed Detroit figurehead Mike Huckaby. 'Baseline '87' ranks amongst his most fabled works, riding as it does around an irresistibly catchy square wave bass hook and one of those no-nonsense beats that the legendary producer did so well. For the sound of Huckaby in full flight though, 'Musik For The Dancefloor' on the flip soars thanks to the interplay between the pads and chords while retaining that steadfast focus. In memory of a true dance music hero, why not revisit a classic that should be comfortably sat in every record bag?

Review: Pulp Corn Recordings is a brand new label out of, we think, France. We don't know any more other than the mysterious imprint promises to serve up "heavy dancefloor-oriented edits on limited 10" format," and the first one is a hand-stamped golden nugget that kick off with a nice analogue deep hue track featuring some classic samples from Pulp Fiction, amongst other things. It's an intriguing roller with a flamenco style breakdown, while the flip is a wild and free break beat banger with big stabs, hammering drum programming and all the energy any club will need to blow up.

Review: Fresh from delving into his ambient side on the pastorally-enhanced "Loom Dream" album for Whities, Leif revives his self-manned Tio Series with another double-shot of delicate but impactful cuts outside the conventional slipstream of modern techno. The rhythms fall crooked, the synths trickle, bubble and cascade around the groove and the atmosphere remains humid and heady, especially on ear-snagging B-side "Rumex". "Montpelier" sports more explicit dubby flourishes and a spread of sonic flora and fauna in the middle distance that truly brings the track to life.

Review: UK bass specialist Leon Smart aka Scratcha DVA originally premiered "Air Bubble" back in 2018 under the Singlewhitefemale alias on the self-released album "Interludes" - only available digitally until now on his label Allyall Records. Named after his radio show at the time, it is a trippy, repetitive and at times contorted effort that works its magic via a simple/less is more approach. This is backed by a more upbeat and dancefloor ready take on the B side by fellow Hyperdub alumnus Ikonika (Hum + Buzz) who does a stellar job on the edit front - choice!

Them & Us (5:55)
Peasant Dance (5:52)
Review: Detroit/Houston based Kolour have had some pretty credible names feature on their new 10 inch series this year, such as Eddic C, Napoleon, Frank Booker and Lady Blacktronika. Now it is over to the Belarus based disco DJ Funkyjaws who serves up two irresistible jams on Vol 8 of the series. On the A side, we have the soulful and life affirming African boogie of "Them & Us". We have not heard the original but it sounds pretty seamless to us: a respectful edit indeed. On the flip, we have one seriously mad boogie-down jam in the form of "Peasant Dance" which is a truly exotic affair from god knows where! Accordions, wah-wah guitar and some super string arrangements clash wonderfully. This may sound like an unholy mixture but this is exactly the kind of disco deviance that truly floats our boat! The Grodno based producer last appeared for the label on Kolour LTD 22 a couple of years back, and in the meantime has also appeared for the likes of Shadeleaf Music and Austrian imprint Pusic.

Review: With two releases already under their belt, the quintessential anonymous producer Crue is back with another exercise in dynamic analogue house and techno. "Track 1" is a steady 90s house workout, rich with warm chord stabs and a punchy beat, primed for slotting in amongst other garage shuffle revivalists. "Track 2" is where things get spicy with the primal, Detroit-weighted clatter of the drums falling in an almost-breakbeat, and the melodic stabs zipping in overhead. It's a staggeringly fresh sounding track, even whilst using methods of the past. Whoever they might be, Crue is clearly in command of some serious kit and a keen ear for what works,

Ce N'est Pas Bon (JD Twitch edit) (5:20)
Review: Long term advocates of JD Twitch's selecting skills will be very happy to see the appearance of this 10" featuring the Optimo man's edit of Amadou & Mariam. Originally made back in 2008, this edit has been a staple of JD Twitch sets and was intended to be released as part of the third volume of the superb charity focused Autonomous Africa series that was issued earlier this year. Licensing issues put the kibosh on those plans, but with the edit having belatedly been granted permission Twitch elected to issue it as one off 10" instead of waiting for volume 4 in 2015. As with the best edits, Twitch's amendments to the original version of "Ce N'est Pas Bon" are subtle and understated, adding little rhythmic elements that make it easier to slip into a DJ set and hypnotise minds. All proceeds will once again go to the Mtandika mission in Tanzania.

Review: Frankfurt's Live At Robert Johnson dole out a swift accoutrement to Massimiliano's excellent LP With One Another in the shape of this sublime two track 10". By our reckoning the label's first issue in this format, Major Fun comes with dedications to two friends of the Berlin-dwelling Italian. "Major Fun" is dedicated to a friend called Joshua who has sadly passed and it's vibrant, colourful explosion of sound and rhythm suggests Pagliara wants to celebrate his life. On the flip the hushed vocals of Jules Etienne adds an extra element of restraint to the deep, disco flecked house cut "Your Love Away" which is dedicated to Pagliara's close friend Lucky.

Samo DJ - "Sha Tin 4am"

Taro Tokugawa - "Here My Dear"
Review: ** REPRESS ** A penultimate release of the year for Public Possession retains the defiantly unconventional approach that has been a distinguishing characteristic since the operation expanded from a Klenzestrasse record shop into a fully-fledged record label. It also represents a label debut for Samo DJ, the Swedish producer responsible for the excellent KWC 92 LP released on L.I.E.S. and co-founder of Born Free alongside Daniel 'Sling' Isling. As the title suggests, the 10" shaped Samo DJ presents Sap Sap Seoi is no mere collection of Samo DJ productions, but instead an introduction into the sonic world of his friends and contemporaries. Along with a Samo DJ cut, there is an appearance Over The Hill (aka DJ Kool Dust and graphic designer Sam Nyholm) and the mysterious Taro Tokugawa with the mood swinging gloriously between house, Scandinavian beat down and in "Here My Dear" a sublime slab of East Asian electronic pop.

Review: The Church White series returns with a second offering and it's a local affair with Rye Wax man FYI Chris bringing some contemporary UK house heat with two fully flavoured cuts. Previously known as one half of Nandos obsessed production unit Piri Piri, FYI Chris is no less potent on the buttons when he's flying solo on the evidence here with "No Hurry" hinting at a similar dusty fingered grasp of house music's inner workings to Mr Dez Andres. Flip the hand stamped 10" and "Juliete" is a more explicitly UK affair thanks to its tumbling percussive swing, percolating synths and expertly diced and layered vocals and it's entirely the kind of thing you expect on Church.

Review: Having issued the frankly quite popular I Can Tell (By The Way You Move) 12" on Domino Records earlier this year, UK house stalwart (as Pitchfork call him) George Fitzgerald continues his chart bothering antics with a first record for the major indie's offshoot Doublesix. Lead track "Magnetic" unveils a new talent from Fitzgerald too with the producer casts aside the sampled vocals he's previously used in favour of unveiling his own brooding (and treated) vocals which contrast nicely with the pulsing synths and cavernous bassline, clasping drums of his production. Those averse to George's vocals should check out B Side "Bad Aura" which comes across as an alternate instrumental mix.

Review: There aren't many outposts in Europe quite as deep as Dubbyman's Deep Explorer, while the selector himself is well versed in communicating with the soul. Here on The Remix Capsule it's deep, soulful overload as Jersey Real Estate and Ex Friendly both get the remix treatment from the label boss, with both cuts featuring life-affirming musings from Jovonn and Rich Medina respectively. "What Is House" is the most blissful of trips, all sumptuous pads and keys drifting into eternity while the beat listlessly rolls out on a refined consortium of bongo drums. "Journey Man" is a more punchy track (well, by Dubbyman standards) as the synths look more upwards and the beat sports a funk injection that should make it work on smoother dancefloors.

Review: Last seen on the Join Our Club label, rising UK producer Clarke Sawkill steps into the physical realm with Prototype, an excellent debut for the Bokhari Records imprint. Primed for optimum club play, Sawkill lays down the one original track which is complemented on the B Side by a remix from the excellent Mr Beatnick. "Prototype" is one long, lolloping slo mo DJ tool with the sort of rolling bassline that tends to wedge itself quite comfortably in your affections and demonstrates Sawkill might be a producer to keep your eye on. Mr Beatnick opts to implement a slightly faster tempo that suits his now familiar sense of melodic warmth down to a tee. Another great 12" from the Bokhari crew.

Based around a liberal sample of the Queen Bee, "Sneeze" is one of those club jams that will appeal to party DJs, starting at a hip-hop tempo before a neat little vocal edit sees the track crank up the BPM exponentially and transformed into a no-nonsense house cut. It's a pretty simple idea executed perfectly and you are likely to hear this all over the festivals this summer.

While he's always been synonymous with authenticity, this homage to the Paradise Garage elevates his dedication one step further. Rich, analogue and ultimately loopy, each of these three tracks whisks us back to house music's most formative era. Review: Firecracker offshoot Unthank returns with a keenly awaited seventh release that introduces Texan producer Fur into the fold. It's the first credited release for the American producer (real name Bryce Isbell) since his Cocoon EP for the UNO label last year - this coming from a producer who according to his Facebook page has "released over 50 albums" on multiple formats. It's an impressive Unthank debut for Fur which sees weighty pianos and deep house rhythmics match the sounds of a harmonious DJ Sprinkles production. Firecracker's Linkwood bolsters the EP with his Stargazer remix, which replaces heavily struck keys with new age synths, while the loose swing of the original's drums have been tightened to create a linear, but laid back reinterpretation.

Review: Making for a formidable partnership with their respective loves of beatdown house and boogie, Ugly Drums and Inkswel link up on City Fly for this marvelous EP that makes a powerful opening statement that will appeal to soul cats as much as house heads. The original version of "Watch Out!" features Charli James on vocals, cooing out a righteous delivery over a chunky, squelchy rhythm loaded with 80s funk signifiers. Inkswel then delivers a tripped out dub of the track that will have all lovers of weirdo grooves grinning inanely, while on the flip "Uglyink Theme" gets into a woozy downtempo house frame of mind. "Fresh Out The Water" slows things down even further with a prime slab of dreamy boogie modernism that would go down smooth next to some Dam Funk.

If you've dipped into the Mikesh & Filburt contributions to Mirau, Permanent Vacation or Liebe Detail Spezial you'll be well aware of what to expect from "No Other"; those coming to this release with inquisitive ears will be rewarded by one of the more shamelessly uplifting tracks to emerge over the summer months. This Side Of Sunshine
Review: Killer debut turn on Mr Zap's Ethereal Sounds label from Miruga, last seen appearing on the appropriately named Drift Deeper label at the turn of 2012. Ethereal Sound completists will gladly add the Human Tube EP to their collection, with the two tracks from the Japanese producer a perfect fit for the label's aesthetic. Commencing with freeform percussive touches cascading around the channels, the title track eventually settles into a thick set groove, with a glacial sheen somehow keeping a lid on the many layers of texture and found sound that Miruga packs inbetween. It has that dual sensation of busy and calm that punctuates so much Ethereal Sound output and is complemented by the facedown business of "This Side Of Sunshine", a bonafide entry into deep house authenticity. A central playful axis between stop start piano samples caked in vinyl crackle and equally dusty drums is complemented by some well judged chord shimmers that remain just within ear shot - you can picture Peterson investing in fresh pants at the mere prospect of playing this one.

Review: After Hakim Murphy and Ike Release inaugurated the Innerspace Halflife project earlier this year with a sublime debut on the former's Machining Dreams imprint - they now grace Aroy Dee's ever excellent MOS Deep label with a further enthralling journey. Even if the aforementioned Cosmology EP passed you by, you should be familiar enough with the respective solo endeavours of both producers to be suitably excited by "Wind". You won't be disappointed either, with the track unfurling from its icy origins into a monstrous arrangement dominated by the fluctuating acid bassline and razor sharp hi-hats, while the soaring chords that intermittently spread expansively over proceedings add brief moments of Utopian calm amid the relentless jacking pressure. This is complemented by a solo Ike Release cut in the shape of "Phazzled" which adopts a more atmospheric tone as ever present clouds of analogue fx add a hazy sensation to the strident drum programming and woozy chord arrangements - quite aptly described by MOS Deep as "classicist house with a future perspective".

Review: Waze & Odyssey are dealing in a lean kind of old-skool flavoured house music which has made its way onto Southern Fried and Wolf Music in 2012. Launching their own imprint to put out their cool and deadly deep house, "Love That (Burns Hot Enough)" kicks things off with a straight-up pumper full of DX7 bassline vibes and light and summery piano chords. It's a simple trick finished off with a snappy diva vocal hook. "Ma Body" is a marginally moodier affair, focusing more on the rhythm section and keeping excessive elements held back until a Casio keyboard line comes in, shredding everything down to pure bliss.

Review: Jus Ed gets another slew of like-minded deep house heads together for the latest double-pack venture from Underground Quality. Samuel Andre Madison dominates the first disc with his Rev S moniker serving up a thoroughly bumpy jam anchored by an almighty kick on "This Thing", while he appears on 2400 Operator's more shuffling but equally mellow "NWS PT 1". Ed himself takes care of disc two with the smacking "beats" cut of "Let's Groove", which features some walloping drums off-set by tasty filtered synths in that plain and simple Jus Ed style. The "Medley" mix on the other hand features a bizarre reprisal of "I'm Coming" amongst other elements over the same "Let's Groove" track. Highly recommended.

Review: With a title like "The Way We Were", it's perhaps unsurprising that this latest missive from former Creme Organization artist Myriadd is a tribute to the glory days of '80s acid house. As you'd expect, it's authentically made, offering a rock-hard fusion of tough analogue drums, droning acid bass and 303-bating riffs. Although alien and icy, there's still a warmth to proceedings thanks to sympathetic mastering and Myriadd's use of vintage analogue gear. Even better, though, is John Heckle's remix, which somehow puts a rocket up the original and turns it into a sweaty, arms-raised belter. It may be called "The Way We Were", but it still sounds fresh.

Review: Australian label Melbourne Deep Cast return! Originally released as part of this year's Record Store Day activities, this Snooze For Days 10" from Melbourne's finest deep house operators is now widely available and features cuts from the Man Fantastique, Andy Hart and Max Graef. Each has supplied some excellent beat down edits of material that some might recognize and others won't; Fantastic Man's slow burning "Paradise" for example is based around a devilishly pitched down vocal of a late 90s neo soul classic that only really comes apparent when the "yeah you might laugh" refrain comes looping into focus. Andy Hart is on straight up discofunk sleaze form with "My Queen" whilst Max Graef cranks up the dust on "Das Brett" which has the best double bass manipulation since Roni Size's "Brown Paper Bag".

The sample laden, beat down house and sun blemished disco of his debut Fine Choice missive is continued here (as is the chosen 10" format) with lead track "Tension" a wonderfully uplifting blend of smudged melodic keys, chugging techy drums and fizzing underbelly. It's the kind of sassy production you could drop on a sun laden Croatian beach and immediately gain a dancefloor's ears. Complementing this is "Margine Call" which sees Newman pair some samples from a test signal record with off kilter disco funk.

Kuiper Belt
Plutonian Moon
Review: Dakini9 runs Plan B Recordings with DJ Spider and this Inter Limits EP is her third release for the label since signing up in 2010. It's got that grit that all Plan B records do, although paired with soft pads, melodious synths and poppy acid, the overall timbre of the A-side cut "Kuiper Belt" is warm and inviting. On the 10" flip is "Plutonian Man", a straight four-four groove ribbed out of shape by off kilter hi-hats, sporadic synth work, and watery, Tibetan singing bowl-like percussion. Two tough-loving Brooklyn house jams.

Monte Verita (Kevin Reynolds Truth mix)
Review: Ever evolving as a producer with a sizable catalogue of charming electronica, Kel McKeown reaches out to a label he has no previous history with; Don't Be Afraid. It's a move that makes sense as the London label continues to establish itself as a reliable source of left-leaning but listenable machine music, and that's exactly what you get with "Monte Verita". The rhythmic function is loosely based around house, but as you would expect with Kelpe there are plentiful kinks and errors in the groove. The synths are the real stars here though; from warm fuzzy chords to Radiophonic bubbles in that heart-warming delivery that Kelpe has made his own. Kevin Reynolds meanwhile takes what he likes from the original and threads a whole new tapestry of more focused, not to mention decidedly pared-down, techno musings.

Sorta Rican
MV Look
Review: The artist occasionally known as Simon Rufdug Mcruff Al-Duggleston steps up to the collectable Porn Wax series with two lustful, lingering looks at 80s electronica. "Sorta Rican" is all soft skanks and twinkling keys. Think Ace Of Bass but with added Balearica. "MV Look", meanwhile, is a psychedelic storm where bold blasts of synths overlap like crashing waves on a new beat shore. Mesmerising and masterful, Ruf Dug is one smooth operator.

1985 (club mix)
1985 (dub mix)
Review: As collaborations go, this is an interesting one. It sees keys-totin' veteran Boyd Jarvis - a maker of slick US garage since the late 1980s - team up with drum machine revivalist Nick Anthony Simoncino for a spot of cross-generation pollination. The resulting track, offering in Club and Dub flavours, mixes all manner of live keys, organs, electric pianos and percussion with the sort of stark, stripped-back machine rhythms that marks out Simoncino's productions. It's an odd but alluring fusion; spacious and out-there while being dubby and floor-friendly, it sounds like a long lost outtake of a recording session from 1985. Which, we guess, is probably the idea.

Finally (Vega DJ Tool)
Review: Released back on 12" in September on Planet E, the Terrence Parker and Reno Ka collaboration "Finally", displayed a heady combination of brisk instrumentation and soulful vocals from Ka which demonstrate why Parker is one of Detroit's most enduring producers. This 10" picture disc, sees another two equally as impressive versions of the same track; the "Backroom Mix" which substitutes the buzzing synths of the original for some hands in the air piano chords joining Ka's soulful vocals, and a DJ tool version of Masters At Work man Louie Vega's mix, which comes custom made for peak time transitions

So Get Down
Review: After kicking off Tomoki's Holic Trax back in 2012, Mr G is back on the 10" focused label once again with two cuts that tap right in to his skills in austere and immersive house music. "A G Moment" is a classic groover from the G camp, all heavily filtered chord throb and steadfast drums in a somnambulant but utterly soulful state of being. There's a touch more spice to be found on the flip side with the titular diva vocal licks that decorate "So Get Down", while the drums roll with a more pronounced weight, particularly in the bottom end.

Review: Benjamin Brunn delivers his latest EP on mysterious new imprint Ashes. A hardware only affair, "Neon Light Time" and "Pola" show off Brunn's unbeatable Clavia keys and the delightful analogue 707 touch as he manipulates his hardware through tough, gritty beats and into a deep, balmy house groove. A master of his trade, Brunn doesn't attempt anything out of the ordinary on Dust Part 2, but rather manipulates the beats with an intricate poise. Soaring cosmic bleeps, finely tuned hats and rolling basslines span both sides of this limited edition vinyl, which arrives accompanied by stunning artwork from Franski.

I Don't Feel (Deetron instrumental remix)
Review: An Aeroplane classic gets the Deetron treatment on the second limited edition 10" release from the Eskimo label. Originally released as part of Aeroplane's ambitious debut LP We Can't Fly, the Merry Clayton featuring "I Don't Feel" had never been remixed before the Swiss producer was invited to rework it as part of the exhaustive, multi disc ten year anniversary Eskimonde compilation from the seminal Belgian imprint. No doubt the track had previously remained untouched due to Clayton's powerful vocal turn which melded perfectly with Vito De Luca's rubbery Hi NRG production, but you can't fault the way that Deetron has reworked it, laying down an extended intro that burns with intensity before dropping a thumping, precision tooled beat. A previously unreleased Instrumental version adds some heat on the flip.

Dum Jams (Dum Jam techno Fuck)
Review: The latest transmission from Underground Quality HQ sees label boss Jus Ed at the helm on a swiftly delivered riposte to Dope Jams, having been included in the latest end of year diss list from the New York record store. That the Dum Jams 12" should arrive so soon after Dope Jams announced plans to close their store after seven years of selling records (and pissing people off) is ironic, but makes us wonder who really won here. There's a certain degree of cultural novelty inherent in the lead "Detox mix" which is thankfully balanced out by the tougher B Side "Techno Fuck" version.

Review: The seemingly unstoppable Rawax introduces us to yet another hot prospect; photographer and visual artist Robin Scholz. Conjuring sounds that are just as imaginative and illustrative as his visual work, "Track 1" is awash with waves of minor chords, spiralling synth flickers and a hypnotic sense of groove development while "Track 2" takes a low-speed adventure into the earliest phases of progressive house. Stunning stuff.

Secret Life
Review: The good ship Juno traverses the Firecracker galaxy and lands once more in the spacious Unthank region with more down under cross genre pollinations. Last year's Inskwel induction was a noted highlight in the small but perfectly formed Unthank catalogue, but this fifth edition from the unheralded Booshank might just match it. Shout outs to House of Traps for the silk screen two colour sleeve that houses this clear vinyl 10" from Booshank (who sources tell us is something of a scene staple over in Melbourne) Loose gargling acid of the deranged kind characterises lead track "Single Dutch" whilst on the flip "Interstate" has that psychedelic, cosmic vibe that Max D does so well. Booshank's disregard for kick drum politics is demonstrated with aplomb on "Secret Life" a simmering concoction of bristling textures which explodes into a charge of drums with the kind of glee that's almost sexual.

Dark Funk
Review: Porn Wax operates at a more glacial pace than the affiliated Tusk label which suits the slow, grinding brand of Balearica music the label brandishes. This fourth release sees Mexico City pair Daniel Quiroz and Gabriel Eugenio dish out a double helping of horizontally inclined cosmic funkers as Avanti near perfect for the balmy summer evenings. Lead track "Cabezaurio" has a lilting zero gravity groove underpinning some flanged guitar work and space age synths which would make Lindstrom green with envy. Complementing this, Avanti showcase their talent for chugging, muscular, druggy disco funk on the all too appropriately titled "Dark Funk".
