000 Baby (6:41)
000 Baby (OM Unit remix) (6:17)
Review: After many years turning out 12"s, Klasse Wrecks has decided to serve up a first-ever 10" and they give the honour to Mr. Ho. His '000 Baby' is a delightfully widescreen sound - a post-rave mix of comedown electronics, dusty breakbeats and soothing ambient pads with some smart vocal samples drifting like wispy clouds. On the flipside, we're treated to and OM Unit remix that beefs things up and speeds up the drums. The percussion too is more defined and the energy levels ramped up with deft 808 bass and searching acidic leads. A nice yin to the A-side's yang.

Review: 10 Seconds is a series of beat-driven vinyl releases from Canadian artist A Track. He is best known for being a part of the globe-trotting EDM circuit and has been for decades. He also runs his own Fools Gold label and puts out from time to time a series of beat experiments smashed out on his SP1200 drum machine. This series kicks off with a nice red 10" and four cuts of floor-wrecking electro that are raw and brain-frying. They're not big, they're not hard, they're not smart, but they are sure to be damn effective.

Review: A Track has been a big name in the EDM scene for well over a decade now. He is one of those DJs often in the DJ Mag Top 100 poll and plays on the largest stages. He also runs the fFools Gold label and occasionally puts out batches of gritty beats made on his trusty SP1200! This is a second such serving that finds him getting busy on the ol' drum machine, serving up the rawest of the raw cut-ups. These four jams are chunky 2-bit numbers that are fad frill and all about the body rocking beats.

Review: Oceanvs Orientalis and Ilhan Ersahin first entered each other's orbits by chance at a performance at Turkey's Cappadox Festival in 2018. Orientalis is renowned for his fusion of Eastern musical motifs and traditions with cutting-edge electronica, while Ilhan Ersahin has long plowed a unique path uniting assorted musical strains from around the world via an exploratory jazz-improv sensibility. Following two tracks ('Mesta' and 'Pire') co-written by Ilhan and OvO and released as collaborations, as well as two more Ersahin / OvO co-writes ('Revenge Of The Wankers' and 'Television') released under OvO's name alone, a fresh and exciting new song, '1980', now heralds a full-length collaboration slated to land in Spring 2024. The track's title hints at a certain nostalgic bent, all while still keeping its gaze firmly fixed on the future as it evokes sun-drenched, bygone good times. The 10" edition adds several extra versions, one of which spotlights the multi-instrumental mastery of Darkside's Dave Harrington, and the other the mesmerizing vocal stylings of Gaye Su Akyol.

Review: As collaborations go, this is an interesting one. It sees keys-totin' veteran Boyd Jarvis - a maker of slick US garage since the late 1980s - team up with drum machine revivalist Nick Anthony Simoncino for a spot of cross-generation pollination. The resulting track, offering in Club and Dub flavours, mixes all manner of live keys, organs, electric pianos and percussion with the sort of stark, stripped-back machine rhythms that marks out Simoncino's productions. It's an odd but alluring fusion; spacious and out-there while being dubby and floor-friendly, it sounds like a long lost outtake of a recording session from 1985. Which, we guess, is probably the idea.

Review: After some time spent in anonymity, Gari Romalis' time has surely come and recent appearances for Hizo Deep Rooted Music and Dockside have brought the Detroit-based producer back into the limelight. On this turn for Rawax "The Blitz (Data Mix)" comes on with all the grit you'd expect of the Motor City, rocking a chunky, bouncing rhythm and some dusty, filtered samples beefed up and honed for maximum floor damage. "G Dub (Dark Park Mix)" meanwhile wriggles into a deeper framework comprised of a bugging bass synth, cool and deadly chords and yet more of that addictive Romalis bump. This is as sturdy a kind of club tackle as you could ever wish for.

Fred Everything & 20For7 - "Friday" (feat Vanessa Baker - Crazy P dub)
Review: Second vinyl only sampler for the forthcoming digital only compilation that celebrates five years of Lazy Days with some classy remixers like Crazy P, Art of Tones and Ian Pooley taking on the label's best-loved tracks. This classy two-track ten kicks off with a Greg Wilson remix of "U Give Me" from Lovebirds which douses the crispness of the original in a sheen of resplendent pads, expertly dubbing out the vocal refrain and generally sexing proceedings up some. On the flip Crazy P tackle boss man Fred Everything's collab with 20 For 7 and Vanessa Baker, dropping a tightly wound burner filled with jagged arpeggios and bumping rhythms that ascends excellently into full on disco mode midway through.

Review: After kicking off Tomoki's Holic Trax back in 2012, Mr G is back on the 10" focused label once again with two cuts that tap right in to his skills in austere and immersive house music. "A G Moment" is a classic groover from the G camp, all heavily filtered chord throb and steadfast drums in a somnambulant but utterly soulful state of being. There's a touch more spice to be found on the flip side with the titular diva vocal licks that decorate "So Get Down", while the drums roll with a more pronounced weight, particularly in the bottom end.

Review: The increasingly impressive Lobster Theremin label seems to be developing close ties to Hungary's emerging electronic music scene. Having previously released a superb EP from Budapest-based Imre Kiss, they've now turned to one of the country's more established names, S. Olbricht (an alias of producer Martin Mikolai). There's much to admire on this intoxicating four-tracker, from the alien electonics and hustling drums of leftfield techno opener "Fi", to the crackling, off-kilter rhythms and ghostly chords of "RPSTS". Elsewhere, Mikolai demonstrates his deep house nous on the warming "IIX1", and fuses twinkling melodies, creepy chords and a throbbing low-end groove on the similarly impressive "Veuns".

Acitude is at the helm for this one with 'Bass Of Life' opening up and layer up prickly lines with jacked up beats and screwy bass. Which is a shame because there's a degree of class to the two untitled productions on this 10" that demands some recognition. Giovanni's Keys (Matthew Styles remix)
Review: With his long player freshly dropped for Tsuba, Canadian producer Tazz gets under the knife with a couple of reworkings aimed squarely at the deeper end of the house dancefloor. 6th Borough Project get to grips with "Worked It", going for a slightly more pumped and modern sounding cut than a lot of their rootsy disco productions, using subtle flicks of melody to create a moody piece. Matthew Styles meanwhile goes further down into the murk with a thoroughly dubby version of "Giovanni's Keys", going heavy on the reverb and submerged keys but keeping things functional for the floor.

Named after his radio show at the time, it is a trippy, repetitive and at times contorted effort that works its magic via a simple/less is more approach. Review: Global Essence Sampler is a new series from Deep Inspiration Show Records that calls upon a fine roster of international producer talent to serve up one track each and reflect on what deep house is today. For Allstarr Motomusic the answer is smooth and cruising house grooves with elastic basslines and distant vocal wails. Barce explores classic Larry Heard-style cosmic melodic territory with plenty of star-gazing potential, and Zarenzeit's 'Zahara' is another one that floats amongst the stars with lush ambient pads. Jank offers a more dusty, rhythmic house sound for cosy backroom parties, and then come the jazzy melodies and soulful bass noodling of Jan Kincl's '3300 Gratiot Ave.' Magic stuff.

Regardless, Annie's Song is a bold statement of Perez's undoubted production talents, demonstrating he's fully capable of producing tracks that in a perfect world would gain mainstream success. Teaming up with vocalist Sam Willis, "Annie's Song" is a vivid, 21st century slant on UK RnB replete with slow burning synths, half step drum programming and plucked strings. On the flip Shadow Child rewires the track for the club, fixing on an authentic UKG flex that sounds like it's been dug up from a forgotten DJ EZ mixtape.

Road To Nowhere
Brothers & Sisters
Review: **REPRESS** The Jack Fell Down duo made a considerable splash last year with releases on Southern Fried and Hometaping Is Killing Music and now they resurface in style with the Another Way EP. The second offering from new Sccucci Manucci offshoot, Manucci's Mistress, this 10" operation is a good home for the Jack Fell Down sound. Lead track "Road To Nowhere" displays a pensive melodic restraint that many of the new crop of house producers seem to overlook in their excitement to get productions from Ableton to Soundcloud. If the A Side sounds like Jack Fell Down holding back, then "Brothers & Sisters" could potentially have them sectioned, such is the crazed madness of the screaming vocals that intermittently punctuate the 90s rave stabs. Great fun.

Review: From his appearances on Aesthetic Audio and Ornate through to his own Atmospheric Existence label, Miles Sagnia continues to be one of the best kept secrets of British deep techno, and that's no more apparent than on this stunning release for Common Dreams. There's a looped up insistence to "Heal", but it's offset by emotive movement in the synth lines and an overall spiritual quality that escapes much cyclical techno. "Plight" takes a slightly slower path, amping up the early UK electronica tones for an immersive experience shaped out by interlocking rhythms and snaking melodies. It's a truly classy statement that stays true to techno while saying something original.

Ethereal Sounds boss Anton Zap handpicks as the next contributer to the background series - which has previously housed our favourite ES release from Uncle Deep. 'Barbarella' - presumably named after the country's most famous beach side club - was one of the standout tunes. It now makes a welcome return on this cheeky 10" from Lazy Days. First it comes as an I:Cube Parisian Sleeze remix that is all bulbous bass farts and slow, seductive drums overlaid with lush sunset chords. 'Baseline '87' ranks amongst his most fabled works, riding as it does around an irresistibly catchy square wave bass hook and one of those no-nonsense beats that the legendary producer did so well. For the sound of Huckaby in full flight though, 'Musik For The Dancefloor' on the flip soars thanks to the interplay between the pads and chords while retaining that steadfast focus. Review: 124Black is the new sub label from 124 Recordings with the aim of promoting a darker, harder sound firmly rooted in the underground. All releases are strictly limited and available only on 10" transparent vinyl. First up is Jacob B, rapidly gaining a lot of recognition for his deep and chunky club cuts, aptly demonstrated on "Basement Crowd" with solid drums, suspense filled strings, a spoken word vocal and a bassline that shows you exactly where the title of this track comes from. Next is another 124 family member, Liam Geddes' late night jam, "Somebody In The House". With it's haunting stabs, groovy baseline and snare rolls, this a simple, yet very effective track that works equally as well in a small club or large warehouse! On the B-side, Cecil returns to 124 with "BV" a track very much aimed at the dancefloor and replete with the producer's signature deep stabs and chords, that work alongside a sub bassline that you feel rather than hear. A peak time track that has been doing the business this summer.

It's the remixes that come first, with Dutch artist Fouk going into similar house territory to Kenny Dope with plenty of live instrumental touches blessing the bristling percussion. It's a totally different vibe on the Freddie Joachem remix, with the Californian opting for some midtempo funk breaks that stay closer to the sound of Magic In Threes' original version . It sees label mainstays Serge and Alden Tyrell join forces to deliver a scorching rework of the previously unheard "Beats". As you might expect from the basement-loving duo, it packs a serious punch, thanks in no small part to their surging drum machine rhythms and expert use of build-and-release arrangement. Pat Van Dyke is up first, creating a blissful version of "Ventos De Outono" that feels as cosy as a warm fire and a glass of whisky on an autumn evening. The original version of the track is actually a peppier affair with a broken beat lilt that wouldn't sound out of place alongside the Dego and Kaidi Tatham crew. Kirk Degiorgio is a natural fit for another remix given his jazzy roots, and his swirling techno treatment is the perfection lotion to pour over Bruno E's excellent original ingredients.

Increasingly he's been moving away from house and techno conventions towards intriguing broken beat variations, and that's apparent in abundance on this new release. Review: So, who is this mysterious Afefe Iku? After absolutely destroying the dancefloors all year long with his infamous bootleg of Radiohead's "Everything In Its Right Place", which he smartly put out in extremely limited amounts of vinyl around the same time his mentor, Osunlade, featured his cover of that very same song on BBE's "Exit Music: Songs With Radio Heads". In all honesty Afefe remains a mystery even to us. So, let us start by saying who Afefe isn't. Unfortunately, for those who thought he was Osunlade, you are mistaken, but don't feel ashamed, because Afefe creates at Osunlade´s studio in Santorini, which makes sense to pinpoint him as Osunlade. Afefe is a very quiet man. Like our lost brother, J Dilla, Afefe wants his music to do the talking. And this is exactly what we're going to do. "Body Drummin" is exactly what it is. A percussion heavy track strictly for the dancefloor, its organic, yet techy-tinged feel brings such an urgency to move your hips that we would only recommend this for playing after midnight. Of course, if you insist, be our guests.

"A Little Bit More" craftily reworks one of last year's most eponymous pop tracks from a peroxide hit machine that featured the rapping talents of a daisy age legend and mouthy newcomer. Heavily filtered and driven by low bass frequencies, it's one of those tracks that will make people do a double take. Complementing this on the B Side is a lolloping E Funk style rework of the best legs in the business's most famous track. The object of many a rework and re-edit by everyone from Theo Parrish to Danny Krivit over the years, it's to the credit of all involved that "Another Thing" brings something different to the table.

AZ - "Simigwado" (edit) (5:50)
Walter Ego - "Eme Nenyo" (4:33)
Philou Louzolo - "Royal Booty Funk" (6:27)
Review: Like many labels at this time of year, Banoffee Pies has decided to get into the Record Store Day spirit, delivering a limited edition, hand-stamped 10" featuring a trio of Afro-inspired cuts from their growing roster of artists. There's naturally much to admire, not least the deliciously bass-heavy "Simigwado (Eidt)" by Az, a heavy Afrobeat rework that gets the right balance between the restless throb of house music and the vibrancy of the producer's source material. Walter Ego impresses, too, with the cowbell-laden Highlife shuffle of "Eme Nenyo", while Philou Louzolo steals the show with the Clavinet-heavy Afro-disco goodness of his superb "Royal Booty Funk".

Review: The anonymous editors Schenkelspreizer get festive with this ace new chicken-flinger. "FML" gets a little butch with its sprightly disco insistency and those brilliantly loose toms that roll on every fill. "DHFC" meanwhile gives us a peep through the Rea view mirror as we hit the road with vibrant, loopy charm. Loaded with a cheeky German break for added party lols, it brings another ace Schenkelspreizer year to a close in a style. Merry hitmas everyone!

Dark Funk
Review: Porn Wax operates at a more glacial pace than the affiliated Tusk label which suits the slow, grinding brand of Balearica music the label brandishes. This fourth release sees Mexico City pair Daniel Quiroz and Gabriel Eugenio dish out a double helping of horizontally inclined cosmic funkers as Avanti near perfect for the balmy summer evenings. Lead track "Cabezaurio" has a lilting zero gravity groove underpinning some flanged guitar work and space age synths which would make Lindstrom green with envy. Complementing this, Avanti showcase their talent for chugging, muscular, druggy disco funk on the all too appropriately titled "Dark Funk".

Cascade (Delano Smith remix)
Cascade (Ryan Elliott remix)
Review: The recently released Cascade doublepack saw tracks from Delano Smith's two albums for Sushitech remixed by a variety of friends, associates and admirers. This clear vinyl 10", limited to 500 copies, features two additional remixes that didn't make the cut. The first is from Smith himself, who turns in a brilliantly hypnotic interpretation that sounds like a cross between classic Detroit deep house and German dub techno. Ryan Elliot handles the flip, laying down a mix that bubbles and spits attractively. It's still sparse, hazy and locked-in, but benefits from some intricate percussion programming, spooky chords and a superb bassline.

Ce N'est Pas Bon (JD Twitch edit) (5:20)
Review: Long term advocates of JD Twitch's selecting skills will be very happy to see the appearance of this 10" featuring the Optimo man's edit of Amadou & Mariam. Originally made back in 2008, this edit has been a staple of JD Twitch sets and was intended to be released as part of the third volume of the superb charity focused Autonomous Africa series that was issued earlier this year. Licensing issues put the kibosh on those plans, but with the edit having belatedly been granted permission Twitch elected to issue it as one off 10" instead of waiting for volume 4 in 2015. As with the best edits, Twitch's amendments to the original version of "Ce N'est Pas Bon" are subtle and understated, adding little rhythmic elements that make it easier to slip into a DJ set and hypnotise minds. All proceeds will once again go to the Mtandika mission in Tanzania.

Review: The currently unstoppable Ross From Friends lays down this limited 10" taken from his live streamed debut. Full sax a-go-go, smoother than your favourite milkshake and ten times sweeter, "Champagne" fizzes with a trippy deep house charm that backs up all the hype and attention he's getting right now. Coming at you on brand new label Molten Jets, this one's a keeper and won't hang around for long at all. Chin chin!

Need Me
Review: Kicking off a spin-off label entitled Manucci's Mistress, Sccucci Manucci are digging into further deep house goodies and sharing them on a cheeky 10" platter courtesy of complete unknowns Silk 86. While they may not appear to have a legacy behind them, the producer responsible clearly knows how to handle brooding, responsive deep house. On "Clear Waters" the key feature is a thick, rounded chord that pitch bends up at the end of every four bars in a hypnotic fashion. "Need Me" features equally engrossing material, not least the undulating bassline and sharp vocal snippets, completing a strong pair of cuts for contemporary house heads.

Club Dread (Harmonic mix)
Club Dread (Sub Harmonic mix)
Review: For the first 10" from his Constant Pressure album, electronic-dub maestro Beat Pharmacy offers up two distinct interpretations of the infectious "Club Dread". That spaced out, minimalist dub that's the Beat Pharmacy trademark is featured on the A-side Harmonic mix, with melodic Detroit chords on top of a percussive glitchy 4/4 groove that's bound to keep the dancefloor throbbing. On the flip the Sub-harmonic mix is a deep, lush dub house joint that swirls and whooshes along with a huge dub bassline. Both mixes feature the dubbed out vocals of reggae legend Mikey Dread. Essential stuff for the Jah Love, Francois K and Rhythm & Sound heads.

Coco's Nuts (Social Disco Club remix)
Review: Fledgling imprint Elevator People release their third EP, leaving Austrian born, London based Giulio DJ in charge of this lovely little 10". "Coco's Nuts" is a subtle Balearic beast, with a funky guitar riff riding shuffling drum patterns and a slow BPM. Portguese producer Social Disco Club, who can't seem to put a foot wrong at the moment, chips in with a spacey chugger on the flip. Top release.

Twisted Future
Review: The label's vision is to bring you a steady flow of futuristic, harmonic and rhythmic electronic music. You will see boundries blurred between the genres of techno, deep house, electro and electronic music in general. For this release 'Data Waves' is a deep and mental journey that is intended to send the listener or dancefloor into a hypnotic state of mind, while 'Twisted Future' is more of a funky, soulful track, also with a dancefloor edge. This release is un-named and untitled, but if you look in the fine print you will see it was written and produced by the label owner himself.. Brad Peterson, as a benchmark for what is to come.

Review: John Shima is a prolific electronic music producer. He has a sound maybe best described as futuristic & intelligent, with a hint of quarkiness at times. He brings true depth and emotion into his productions, usually illustrated by using spacey pads, electrofunk basslines and intelligent drum programming. This EP contains two tracks, carefully selected from his archive to compliment one another and to bring you his productions of highest quality.

Azikiwe
Review: A second release of the year for the emergent Common Dreams label sees Reedale Rise producer Simon Keat join the fold with a pair of thoughtful, pensive deep house cuts. Lead track "Pressure Box" is the track with a sense of unpredictable funk, giving us juicy chords, starry-eyed pads and an overall nice atmosphere with the drums moving ever forward. The B-side "Azikiwe" fuses sporadic arpeggiations with some very thoughtful chord melodies. Maybe it could be described as having a more psychedelic twist. Another fine house record from the Common Dreams team.

Como Como (feat Drieser & Sexto Sentido)
Review: Brownswood return to Mala's triumphant LP from last year in triumphant fashion, calling on the masterful Theo Parrish to rework "Como Como" on this rather enticing looking 10" slab. As one of the few vocal cuts to feature on Mala In Cuba, it's natural that the Sound Signature boss would look to "Como Como" when invited to remix a track from the LP and in his hands the soothing tones of Drieser & Sexto Sentido are brought to the fore. Additionally instead of a complete reinvention, Parrish opts to extend the track adding his own twinkling synth lines to complement Mala's luxuriant chord patterns. Contender for remix of the year?

Review: Sushitech continue to celebrate the depth and breadth of their catalogue with another 15th anniversary reissue in the form of this surefooted two-tracker from Delano Smith and Norm Talley. This is the sweet spot where Detroit house and Detroit techno intertwine, leading in with the dreamy haze and steady trucking groove of 'Constellation'. 'Detroit 2-Step' has a spicier demeanour which artfully merges sultry sax with an ear-snagging riff which sounds organic and metallic all at once. Again, the groove is locked down and impossible to shake off course, making this heady club tackle for those who want to season their set with some of the finest rollers in the game.

Track 2 (6:42)
Review: The mysterious Crue returns with two body-twisting floor-burners for the peak-time hours. Thumping drums and old-skool chords are the main ingredients here, with the A-Side bringing some ruthless bass kicks into action alongside smooth but seductively off-kilter keys - not forgetting those ringing 90s vocals to wrap everything up nicely into a Head High reminiscent power bomb. Over on the flip, similarly ferocious bass drums pounce heavily against a wall of nostalgic but euphoric female vocals. All we know about these slabs of wax is that they originate from Spain and, oh, they come in lovely transparent marbled vinyl. A definite tip.

Track 1 (6:04)
Track 2 (6:23)
Review: With two releases already under their belt, the quintessential anonymous producer Crue is back with another exercise in dynamic analogue house and techno. "Track 1" is a steady 90s house workout, rich with warm chord stabs and a punchy beat, primed for slotting in amongst other garage shuffle revivalists. "Track 2" is where things get spicy with the primal, Detroit-weighted clatter of the drums falling in an almost-breakbeat, and the melodic stabs zipping in overhead. It's a staggeringly fresh sounding track, even whilst using methods of the past. Whoever they might be, Crue is clearly in command of some serious kit and a keen ear for what works,
