This is the first new music from A Mountain of One in a decade and it marks the inaugural release on their new AMORE label. Review: Leipzig label Freund der Familie is a modern dub techno label with a deservedly good reputation and well honed roster of label artists. Now the Grau series continues with plenty of dubbed out electronics from the off: opener 'Margin' is a slow and heavy one, with chords rippling over the face of a lumpy kick drum, 'Scope' then has frostier synths and a dubwise vocal praising jah and pacing about the mix and 'LIMBIC' then sinks you in deep to serene synth modulations and rolling drums that cannot fail to enter you into a state of pure mindfulness. 'Utils' closes out on a more uptempo rhythm with double kicks and pulsing subs locking you in.

Review: This new 10" from New York label Sunshine Sound (which is often a label said to be recognised as the 'birthplace of the edit') features a couple of legendary edits by the one and only Francois K. They are in fact medleys that find him workings mixing desk hard as he layers in tribal chants, drum funk, sick percussion and plenty of breaks, whistles and more. He did them first back in the disco heyday and yet they still very much have the same uplifting and irresistible impact on dancers now as they did back then.

Review: Oceanvs Orientalis and Ilhan Ersahin first entered each other's orbits by chance at a performance at Turkey's Cappadox Festival in 2018. Orientalis is renowned for his fusion of Eastern musical motifs and traditions with cutting-edge electronica, while Ilhan Ersahin has long plowed a unique path uniting assorted musical strains from around the world via an exploratory jazz-improv sensibility. Following two tracks ('Mesta' and 'Pire') co-written by Ilhan and OvO and released as collaborations, as well as two more Ersahin / OvO co-writes ('Revenge Of The Wankers' and 'Television') released under OvO's name alone, a fresh and exciting new song, '1980', now heralds a full-length collaboration slated to land in Spring 2024. The track's title hints at a certain nostalgic bent, all while still keeping its gaze firmly fixed on the future as it evokes sun-drenched, bygone good times. The 10" edition adds several extra versions, one of which spotlights the multi-instrumental mastery of Darkside's Dave Harrington, and the other the mesmerizing vocal stylings of Gaye Su Akyol.

Review: Those with good memories may remember Sacred Rhythm's late '90s and early 2000s sister label Natural Resource, which existed primarily as an outlet for founder Joaquin 'Joe' Clausell's "deeper, electronic soundscape" style productions. SORA, which debuts with this coloured vinyl 10", is its' replacement. Clausell is naturally in top form across both productions. A-side 'Subtle Light' is undeniably"gorgeous, with Clausell wrapping twinkling, sunset-friendly piano solos, shimmering synth strings and spacey electronics around a tactile, undulating dream house bassline and hybrid drum machine/hand percussion beats. On B-aside 'Peakaboo We See You', the long-serving NYC producer opts for a darker, more heads-down 'deep-tech' sound, adding raw, rough and menacing stabs, tribal style percussion hits and bold aural textures to a weighty, peak-time-ready house beat.

If you've dipped into the Mikesh & Filburt contributions to Mirau, Permanent Vacation or Liebe Detail Spezial you'll be well aware of what to expect from "No Other"; those coming to this release with inquisitive ears will be rewarded by one of the more shamelessly uplifting tracks to emerge over the summer months. A vocal turn brimming with soul sits atop what can only be described as a chord driven old school piano house banger which really deserves widespread appreciation. Permanent Vacation's in-house duo of Benji and Tom take it deeper on the flip with a little help from The Drifter - last seen on an Erdbeerschnitzel cut.

Review: Antonio Ocasio is a spiritual house veteran truly embedded in the story of NYC house music since he minted the Tribal Winds label in 1998. There were a few years where things went quiet, but Ocasio has been back in action in 2023 and swiftly following up the Soulciety Music Series release with this stunning 12". On the A-side we get Sugah Lyrics offering her hushed, poetic vocal tones amidst the rolling percussion and dreamlike synth work of 'Sacred Tones'. The flip takes a different path as a mellow, soulful composition lays the groundwork for Nina Hadz Antich's sweet singing on 'That Something', once again affirming Ocasio's gifts as a songwriter and producer as well as an NYC deep house staple.

Vilod, as they are preferring to be called these days, sit up top with a typically long form take on "African Man" which reconstitutes the blaring horn funk of Allen's original piece into a subtle 12 minute reduction of electronic house music. Review: The prevailing wisdom in music is 'if it ain't broke don't fix it', and we had some trepidation when we learned that there were reworks planned of Terrence Parker's "Love's Got Me High". Despite these reservations, it's clear that Marc Romboy and Jimpster have delivered versions that are respectful of the original and certainly meet its high standards. Romboy's take centres on loose, organic drums and soulful keys, filtered subtly. These elements provide the basis for a sensuous male vocal to intone the track's title. Jimpster's take is trackier and more suited to DJ usage, its hissing, rasping percussion combined expertly with an insistent rhythm, but here too Rhodesy keys and crowd screams and yells ensure it has a high soul quota. Check it!

Review: The smooth and seductive sounds of Pulp Corn come at us for another fine EP here from the in house production team. As ever the influences are broad with 'Tarik 1' featuring a soul vocal and some swooning strings that bring an almost Eagles-style vibe to the rolling house drums and elastic bass. It's a good time sound for winning over any crowd in loved-up settings. On the flip, 'Track 2' is led by a sax taking on an iconic melody from the 'Sunny' tune and allowing it to drift of bustling and bristling funky house beats. Two characterful cuts with lots to like.

Review: Acid Cuts has got more brain twisting 303 madness served up here on a weird and wonderful lathe-cut 8" that is strictly limited to just 50 copies. Acitude is at the helm for this one with 'Bass Of Life' opening up and layer up prickly lines with jacked up beats and screwy bass. A beats version is then another wonky drum-led workout with 'Confused Bass' pushing things further with gurgling lines, pixel thin synths, dusty hi-hats and more analogue drums. 'Feel The Jam' is a final wonky closer.

Review: Very limited double 10" from Berlin based producer Sven Weisemann, who pops up with his first original release of 2010. The self taught pianist, acoustic guitarist and percussionist is just as happy dabbling in jazz and soundtracks as he is piecing together deep house and techno, and across two sumptuous 10"s we are treated to the full breadth of his talents. The ethereal beauty of "Lateral Flection" offers nary a kick drum, with Weisemann instead focusing on layering intricate sonic atmospherics. "Tidal Wave", meanwhile, conjures images of a gentle ocean rather than tsunamis, and the sparse, barely-there percussion and ghostly whispers on "Placid Love" mark it as perhaps the most beautiful moment on the LP. A well worn phrase it may be, but these tracks need to heard through a nice set of speakers or headphones for the listener to fully appreciate the subtle textures and electronic nuances. Simply stunning.

Review: This hand-stamped white label 12" from the Pulp Corn crew is the 10th such offering and still, they are cooking up irresistible house fusions that do plenty of good things. 'Track 1' here takes a classic vocal sample from the Pulp Fiction movie and layers it into a freewheeling disco house sound that is cosmic, funky and retro-future by design. After that loopy workout comes the more freewheeling broken beats and Latin-inspired sounds of 'Track 2' which again has a classic movie sample as the centrepiece while the drums evolve all around. Playful and fun for sure.
