Daaaaaali ! (4:01)
Age Reel (6:23)
Review: If you were to take one hundred imaginary Daft Punk fans, blindfolded them and played them 'Daaaaaali !' - a charming instrumental, founded on several simple, interwoven and decidedly acoustic guitar figures - you'd reckon none of them would be able identify that Thomas Bangalter was the man (behind the robot) behind the music. And they probably wouldn;t fare much better with the B-side of this 10" single, 'Age Reel'; a curious choice for inclusion, as it's essentially an elongated version of the same theme. Our fictitious friends might have surmised that 'Daaaaaali !' was related to the surrealist artist Salvador Dali; the title track from Quentin 'Mr Oizo' Dupieux' 2023 "real fake biopic" comedy.

Joe 90: Main Titles/End Titles (2:43)
Balloon Ride (From Project 90) (2:48)
Review: This is a vinyl release of the original soundtrack for Joe 90, a 1968 British science-fiction television series created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. The soundtrack was composed and conducted by Barry Gray, a prolific British composer who worked on many of Anderson's shows, such as Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. The soundtrack features Gray's distinctive style of orchestral music, blending classical influences with jazz and pop and electronic elements. The release includes 24 tracks selected from the show's score, pressed on two LPs with orange and blue vinyl, and also features new artwork by illustrator Eric Chu, depicting the main character Joe McClaine and his many eccentric gadgets.

David Bowie/The Rebels - "Revolutionary Song" (4:42)
Marlene Dietrich - "Just A Gigolo" (3:34)
Review: Here's something to get Bowie fans hot under the collar: a first worldwide pressing of the Thin White Duke's "Revolutionary Song", his only contribution to the soundtrack of 1978 West German flick "Just A Gigolo", in which he also starred alongside silver screen legend Marlene Dietrich. The song was recorded with a local band of musicians hastily dubbed "The Rebels" and sees Bowie in classic crooner mode, adding his distinctive vocals to a jangly, largely acoustic number that's effectively a folksy take on waltz. Over on side B there's a chance to enjoy one of Marlene Dietrich's last ever recordings: an atmospheric cover of 1930s cabaret standard "Just A Gigolo" which ended up being the movie's title track.

Review: Luis Bacalov, an Argentinian-born Italian composer, has been present across some of the most sought-after soundtracks of the 60s, 70s and 80s, working with mythical directors such as Pasolini and Fellini, among many others. La Seduzione is one piece from 1973, and it's one of those bottomless sampling sources that'll often get quoted by producers like Madlib or MF Doom. This is because the LP travels across countless genres and influences, transporting the listener through electronica, jazz and breaks, all from the point of view of an artist who never relied on any single genres or trends. Strangely enough, there's even a bit of Spaghetti Western in here, the sort that is often championed by peeps like Tarantino. It's a true masterpiece, and an album which stands alone on a single pedestal. Recommended.

Review: Before Twin Peaks and all that followed, director David Lynch and composer Angelo Badalamenti had worked together just once: on the former's 1986 mystery noir movie Blue Velvet. Lynch asked Badalamenti to create an original score inspired by both the works of Shostakovich and the smoky, clandestine atmosphere found at blues and jazz clubs. These two musical threads are explored on side A and B respectively. So, while the first side contains numerous sweeping, dark and moody orchestral compositions, turn the record over and you'll find classics from Roy Orbison and Bill Doggett, as well as Badalamenti's spine-tingling interpretation of pop standard "Blue Velvet". Featuring a mixture of simmering strings, breathy female vocals and atmospheric field recordings, it's as creepy a version of the much-covered song as you'll hear.

Review: Soundtrack reissues specialists Death Waltz finally deliver what everyone has been waiting for; a newly remastered edition of Angelo Badalamenti's timeless score for Twin Peaks. A project that was first announced back in 2014, Death Waltz have really put the work in here on this double LP presentation. Seeking out engineer Tal Miller to remaster the score, getting the approval of David Lynch on the artwork, sleeve notes from Badalamenti and of course the music itself pressed up on "damn fine coffee" coloured vinyl. Musically speaking, do we really need to describe what is a classic selection of compositions from the American? Both the foreboding "Twin Peaks Theme" and somewhat more soothing "Laura Palmer's Theme" should be singed on the cerebral cortex of any self-respecting fan of culture.

Review: As an ode to the upcoming remake of David Lynch's infamous Twin Peaks, there is a flurry of Angelo Badalamenti reissues at the moment. In fact, both this original soundtrack, which is the official music as heard in the 1992 film, and the Fire Walk With Me spin-off have both resurfaced as reissues this week. Unsurprisingly, we recommend for you to snap up both because they have been something of a rarity over the last 10 years. Timeless and iconic from start to finish, this soundtrack is not for the faint of heart, and will likely stir some feelings upon initial listen. This will be all the more palpable if you were shocked and eternally intrigued by the movie. We were, of course, and we absolutely cannot wait for the new series either!

Review: Angelo Badalamenti is to noir thrillers what Ennio Morricone is to the spaghetti Western scene. The Italo-American composer has been a pivotal part of the Hollywood soundtrack scene since the 70s and, among many cult-like figures, he's collaborated extensively with the great David Lynch on projects such as Blue Velvet and, of course, the present Twin Peaks, a film which has reached a God-like status over the last two decades. The music from the motion picture is as vivid and dream-like as the film itself; Badalalementi immerses you in a world of Neo-gothic trance and bizarre, fairy-like dances that instantly recall the movie's infamous dance scene concerning two horses. What is most notable about it is his use of subtle jazz nuances and the man's pioneering downtempo style. NB: this particular release, Fire Walk With Me, features additional music and acts as a companion to the official soundtrack as heard in the movie. What a soundtrack. Totally essential.

Review: Death Waltz has pulled of something of a coup here, obtaining permission to release Angelo Badalamenti's score from David Lynch's controversial Twin Peaks movie spin-off, Fire Walk With Me. The film was panned by both critics and fans of the original TV series on its 1992 release, but has since becoming something of a cult classic. Badalamenti's fine score is as atmospheric and beguiling as his work on the original Twin Peaks series, and contains a number of tracks that rework musical themes from that acclaimed production. Death Waltz has gone all out on the production, too, housing heavyweight, cherry-splattered vinyl in a luscious gatefold sleeve.

Review: Since its release in 1997, David Lynch's neo-noir-horror, Lost Highway, has become something of a cult classic. The accompanying soundtrack album, here reissued on weighty double vinyl, is similarly revered in some circles. Put together by Nine Inch Nails' frontman Trent Reznor, composer Angelo Badalamenti, and punk-turned-producer Barry Adamson, it's a mish-mash of darkly intense songs (Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Lou Reed and Rammstein all contribute), and the kind of creepy, other-worldly soundscapes that have always been a feature of Lynch's work. It's arguably the latter tracks, composed by Badalementi and Adamson, which remain creepily potent all these years on.

Review: Welcome to hell. Coinciding with the popular release of the first ever film in the franchise, the original score for the 2023 fantasy adventure film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves finally drops via Mercury. Directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, and based on the myriad tabletop game, the film follows a group of thieves who embark on a quest to steal a legendary artifact from a powerful wizard. Composed by composer Lorne Balfe, the soundtrack is monumental, with a whopping 49 tracks of epic, dark-fantastical music blending an impressive array of orchestral and electronic elements. There's also a credits version of 'Wings of Time' by Tame Impala on there.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 (Soundtrack)
Review: A student of film score maestro Hans Zimmer with videogame credits such as Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed III, as well as a myriad of features including The Lego Batman Movie, and more notably, Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Lorne Balfe continues his current collaborations with the one and only Tom Cruise for Ethan Hunt's latest endeavour to save the (constantly on the brink of extinction) world in the seventh instalment of the endlessly entertaining Mission: Impossible franchise. Dead Reckoning Part 1 features all of the swirling modern classical bombast you can expect from a modern summer blockbuster, but with an auteur's ear for dread-inducing moments of string-stretched ambient dread. Report back for Part 2 of both the action epic and its equally imposing score next year.

Review: On her new album, End of The Day (Music From The Film Anonymous Club), Courtney Barnett opted to score music to the candid documentary she made about her personal travails and hard-fought triumphs. It documented her journey from the bottom to the top of the indie rock scene over the course of the last ten years and follows a classic redemption arc with the score adding all new levels of emotional intensity and narrative. Alongside collaborator Stella Mozgawa, she made a series of instrumental improvisations which have been reworked into one impressionistic sound-art collage.

It was recorded in Tokyo in 1982 and is a gentle, free-spirited record of gentle intrigue that mixes nouveau chanson, jazz, bossa, ambient and minimalism into a magical melting pot. Though Barouh passed away in December 2016, his legacy will live on for ever in this most fascinating musical document.

Review: Two facts about Fireball XL5, the British sci-fi puppet show created by legendary husband and wife team Gerry and Sylvia 'Thunderbirds/Captain Scarlet' Anderson. Firstly, this was their third time using 'supermarionation', a word that has nothing to do with Nintendo and everything to do with plastic models moving their mouths in sync with real dialogue. Secondly, the programme only lasted one series, albeit it did comprise 39 episodes.

Background set, this reissue of the original soundtrack plays true to the Anderson OST rulebook, to the point where once you know the series it's impossible not to start picturing potential scenes on strings to suit the music. Nevertheless, it's all accomplished stuff, from dramatic overtures to espionage-worthy arrangements and weirdly complex, danceable stuff that pulls you in like an episode of The Monkees.

Review: Gerry Anderson's Stingray is one of those superbly nostalgic and cult TV shows that, when thinking about them now, transports you right back to your childhood - unless you're lucky enough to be too young to have seen it first time around that is. The series followed the World Aquanaut Security Patrol (WASPs) on several underwater adventures with a superb soundtrack from Barry Gray adding style and drama to the aquatic odyssey. From minimalist electronic pieces to lush strings, jazzier motifs and driving military marches, this gatefold silver vinyl version of the completed soundtrack is a real doozy.

Review: Star Trek Picard is a TV series that has been as healed for its great soundtrack as much as any of the on screen action. The award winning British composer Stephen Barton (also known for his work on Star Wars Jedi Fallen) is behind it and his work on the third season might be the best yet. Pulled out of retirement once more, Jean-Luc Picard (played by the legendary Patrick Stewart) seeks help from Captain Riker to answer a distress call and uncovers a conspiracy reaching to the furthest corners of the Federation as well as the unwelcome return of an old foe. Thematic is dramatic, absorbing and emotive and is all captured on this record.

Review: The story goes that, back when he was a core member of Kraftwerk, Karl Bartos helped create the band's own theme for Fritz Lang's often-soundtracked Metropolis. Bartos has an enduring fascination with the more daring artwork of the early 20th Century, and so he took on the challenge of creating a new score for Robert Weine's landmark silent movie The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari. Using an assortment of synths in his Hamburg studio, Bartos creates a symphonious soundtrack which shows his passion for the subject matter in stark detail. A must-check for fans of Bartos and the wider Kraftwerk phenomenon, as well as fans of Weine's pioneering psychological thriller.

Review: Musician, writer and sometime member of Kraftwerk Karl Bartos wrote The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari as a tribute to the iconic 1920 silent horror film whose original music score had long been lost. Through electronic compositions, Bartos skilfully captures the eerie atmosphere and psychological depth of the movie, enhancing its haunting narrative with his sonic reinterpretation. The album immerses listeners in a world of suspense and mystery, blending ominous synth melodies with pulsating rhythms and cinematic soundscapes. Bartos' masterful fusion of retro-futuristic aesthetics and contemporary electronic music was made after he dug deep into his own archives to recreate epics he wrote as a young classical musician and offers an all-new perspective on the original soundtrack.

The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari (DVD)
Review: Musician and writer Karl Bartos has long been admirer of Weimar-era culture. During his time in Kraftwerk, he helped create the stunning track 'Metropolis', directly inspired by a band viewing of the classic 1927 Fritz Lang film of the same name. The original orchestral music composed for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari by Giuseppe Becce had long been lost and in 2005, after watching the film, Bartos imagined what it would be like to create an entirely new one in the 21st Century in his home studios in Hamburg. Now with crystal clear images, digitally restored by the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Foundation, the film is visually the best quality it has ever been and now, with Bartos' soundtrack, there is impressive sound to go with the haunting vision. Narrative film music and sound design collide in Robert Wiene's classic 1920 psychological thriller, this latest auditory complement of which is now issued on a large 37-track CD and 48-page booklet.

Review: While Fritz Lang's Metropolis has enjoyed reams of revisionist soundtracks in the near-century since it was released, Robert Weine's The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari has remained a more cult concern of Weimar-era cinema. Karl Bartos, one of the early members of Kraftwerk, has indulged his passion for the art of this unique period between world wars, when technology and art was changing as rapidly as the world around them. Employing his considerable experience and well-appointed studio to the task of re-soundtracking, Bartos has created this vibrant new score for Weine's film, pressed up here on double vinyl with an accompanying 16-page booklet.

Review: Tom Geens' second movie, Couple In A Hole, has been getting rave reviews of late, with critics praising its' bleak storyline (it involves a grieving couple living in a hole under a tree in the Pyrenees) and woozy, similarly dystopian soundtrack. The music was written, performed and produced by Beak, a Bristol three-piece formed by Portishead's Geoff Barrow seven years ago. Here, that soundtrack - loose, lo-fi, creepy, eccentric and naturally evocative - gets a CD release. There's much to admire throughout, even if you've not seen the film, from the droning synthesizer creepiness of "Remember" and discordant woodwind instrumentation of "Flax Bourton" (which is much moodier than the West Country village it's named after), to the post-punk, apocalyptic surf-rock of "PIJ".

One of the foremost romantic films of the 2020s so far, Past Lives is set in Seoul, SK, and follows two beloved childhood friends over the course of 24 years; detailing the personal trials, love triangles and vagaries that inevitably stem from a romance torn apart in childhood and brought back together again in adulthood. Bear and Rossen's soundtrack is pressed on cloud white vinyl, with original paintings by renowned artist Na Kim.

Review: It's not so well known that Steely Dan had a precursor band, but here we come to enlighten you. The group was originally formed by two core members, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, whose collaborations as a pair preceded Steely Dan's supergroup work. Long before they embarked on a lofty rock career, they were soundtracking obscure comedies. Peter Locke's 'You Gotta Walk It Like You Talk It Or You'll Lose That Beat' was their first and only victim - the comedy-drama dealt with the life of a young hippie coming of age in Central Park. The music, to boot, is an eight-track selection of rip-roaring blues and pedal basses, as Fagen and Becker meditate on the carnal nature of the world, through masterful guitar playing and impactful rhythms.

Review: Denis Villeneuve's psychological thriller about a man who sees his doppelganger in a movie, and begins an obsessive search for the look-alike, is a strange, tense, highly stylised dive into a world that's informed by some of the masters of surrealist tension. At times invoking landmark mind-benders such as David Lynch's Lost Highway, albeit with a far less experimental narrative structure, to say its score works hard to set the tone is putting it mildly.
Created by Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans, Enemy's soundtrack is a joy, but also thoroughly trippy. It's unnerving, and yet inviting, laidback while also mournful, and always has this air of the unknown and uncertain about it. Boasting white noise, strings, drones, woodwind, elements of classical, jazz and library sounds are all here, at times invoking space age imagery, in other moments taking use back to the great mysteries of 20th Century cinema.

Review: This is a World Premiere of the recordings of the complete scores from two absolute stone cold classic hammer horror films. Both come from the 1950s There is the Peter Cush starring The Curse Of Frankenstein and Christopher Lee lead Count Dracula, which also featuring Cush in the role of Doctor Van Helsing. Togther they make for one of the many special Record Store Day 2020 releases and are both utterly essential buys and some of the best ever from the soundtrack genre. James Bernard is the man behind the music on both, and it never fails to send chills down the spine. This reissue comes in a special gatefold sleeve with red and green 12" LPs.

As part of Trunk Records' Soundtracks reissues series, comes the vinyl debut of James Bernard's OST for 'The Devil Rides Out', a rather corny yet no less enjoyable gothic horror classic film from the late 60s. Directed by Terence Fisher, the film centres on the macabre antics of an underground group of Satanists. Fittingly, the soundtrack is immediate, full of tribal drumming and stern, expressionistic string zaps; its pieces have titles like 'Orgy Of Evil' and 'Hidden Sacrifice'. You were warned.

Review: English actor, writer, and musician Matt Berry - of Darkplace and IT Crowd fame - covers, yes, covers an assortment of classic British TV themes. The result is an album to be appreciated as much as it is to be taken seriously, as it is to be enjoyed. Of course there's a pinch of humour with Berry placing himself alongside a muppet and Doctor Who on the album's cover art, but it's the theatrical, jazz and upbeat, yet easy listening approach of the album which really paints the picture. The LP's opener "Are You Being Served" is undeniable sweetest spot of nostalgia here, with the minutia of Thames Television indents, at 8 seconds long, also checked and covered. Recorded solo by Berry himself, it's a burgundy-beige trip through the technicolour memory of one's formative years enjoying the early-evenings and afternoons watching a select choice of the UKs most iconic TV.

Review: The flame of popular interest in rare Italian film soundtracks continues to be stoked with this latest reissue of a Marioo Bertolazzi crime thriller score. This one came for the 1972 film ‘Who Killed The Prosecutor And Why?’, in which a strapping young photographer accidentally captures in his latest photos the murder of a judge, which leads him down a rather entertaining rabbit hole of conspiracy and blackmail. It’s no ‘Bird With The Crystal Plumage’ by any stretch, but the film is still true to the much-respected genre of Italian murder mysteries, not least because it enlisted the help of Bertolazzi for scoring duties. Over the course of 16 “sequences”, Bertolazzi’s orchestra impressionistically smashes its triangles, harpsichords, pianos, drum brushes and xylophones together in a disorderly but eventually jazzy-sentimental fashion, reflecting the film's initial chaos, but eventual resolution.

Review: Malignant is the latest work from Conjuring universe architect James Wan, who is well known for previous projects such as Aquaman and Fast and the Furious 7. It is a horror that takes the director back to his roots and is all the more impactful thank to the soundtrack composition of Joseph Bishara (Insidious, The Conjuring, Annabelle, and The Prodigy.) He eschews all the usual hour score musical tropes and instead brings his own avant-garde style and unique approach to instrumentation with strong dissonance and pulsing electronics making the eerie vibe.

Review: Two years after Marc Richter released his most widely available album Back To Comm album, Alphabet 1968, on the ever amazing Tape imprint, he delivered another landmark with Earth. Originally, the music was conceived to accompany two screenings of the video Earth by Singaporean artist Ho Tzu Nyen. First commissioned for the Sydney Festival 2011, the visual work was scored by Melbourne's Oren Ambarchi for the grand unveiling, but then toured the planet, with different musicians invited to reimagine the soundtrack for different locations. Germany's Black To Comm was enlisted for Berlin and Krakow, and as the smart money was always on, he offered up a strange, beguiling, abstract but highly visceral score. Almost impossible to describe, at once witty but incredibly sad, troubling and intriguing, traumatised but honest, it might be the perfect accompaniment to a film in which several frames are dedicated to landscapes piled high with human corpses. Following the two live performances, the producer opted to make these 'tunes' his next record, which is now finally getting a reissue.

Review: Given his love of dark ambient, slowly shifting themes and poignant aural textures, Blanck Mass's Benjamin Power has always had it in him to write and record a great movie soundtrack. He finally did that last year, delivering a creepy, atmospheric and memorable score for dark Irish thriller "Calm With Horses". If you've not seen the film, fear not: INVADA has decided to release the score on vinyl. It's brilliant all told, with Power mixing sustained, unfurling synthesizer chords, gentle piano melodies, ambient electronics, Giallo style movements and raw, trance-influenced riffs to create tracks that consistently fire the senses. Those versed in movie soundtracks will notice nods to the likes of Angelo Badalamenti, Vangelis and John Carpenter, but ultimately Power's trademark sound is very much his own.

Review: RECOMMENDED
Radio Nova programmer Max Guiget steps out under his well established Blundetto guise for another masterclass in mechanical dub-funk stuff, this time to provide a soundtrack to Canal+'s series VTC. Centred on a night driver for a ride share company, Nora, and her addiction to amphetamines, the show presents the mess that has become her life in all its vivid and uncomfortable details. Debts, divorce, and a bed on the backseat of the car she uses to pick customers up.

Faced with this kind of quietly disturbing realism, and a world that exists predominantly as a nocturnal realm, Guiget's work is steeped in brooding atmospheres, but rather than simply looking to build feelings through long refrains and deep dive ambience, there's often a slow but definite, forward-motion rhythm to what's here, with tracks like 'La Chapelle' an eerie yet groovy case in point.

Review: Since first appearing on US television in 2011, Bob's Burgers has become something of a must-watch for those who grew up gorging on irreverent animated series such as The Simpsons and Family Guy. Like those two shows, Bob's Burgers has always featured humorous and eccentric songs within episodes. This double-CD set brings together 107 songs from the series' six seasons (all in full-length form, rather than the edited snippets sometimes included in the programmes), performed by the main cast and regular guests such as Sarah Silverman and Kevin Kline. As a bonus, they've also included cover versions of songs from the series by the likes of The National, Lapsley and Stephin Merrit of The Magnetic Fields.

Review: When it comes to classical and orchestral worlds things often look painfully whitewashed and very male dominated, at least in so far as conduction goes. Talk about understatements. Enter Jongnic Bontemps, one name on a growing list of incredible talent changing that stereotype up for the better. Schooled in church and jam music, formally educated in classical, to date he has been responsible for no less than 50 significant projects spanning video games, cinema, TV series, shorts and documentary films. His contribution to Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is emblematic of his dexterity, a collection that shifts between bombastic and high tech, machines supporting brass and string crescendos, then quiet, patient, and at times tense work, marking him out as a true musical storyteller extraordinaire.

Review: It almost (almost) feels pointless to pitch why you should buy Moonage Daydream. After all, David Bowie was one of the 20th Century's best selling and most influential artists. And that legacy continued through the early-21st, when he represented an increasingly rare breed of visionary artist capable of building entire worlds. He straddled mainstream popularity and experimentalism with ease. So, you're probably going to pick up a copy of this on sight and spec alone.
Nevertheless, some context may help. 'Moonage Daydream' is, of course, the title of one of Bowie's most enigmatic and defining tracks, which would go on to form the basis for the concept album The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. Now it's also the name of a new documentary about the life and times, and incredible work, of the man in question. In terms of soundtrack, that translates as two discs of rare and iconic material, from 'The Jean Genie/Love Me Do/The Jean Genie' medley (recorded at the final date of the Ziggy tour in 1973), to alternative mixes of tracks like 'Modern Love'.

Review: 'Moonage Daydream' is the latest addition to the Bowie franchise; an epic film of never-seen-before Bowie footage, recolourised and repackaged to form an experimental cinematic odyssey for today's generation of art rock lovers. The soundtrack sees an insta-release to complement the launch of Parlophone's new digital streaming service; it's got an exclusive early version of 'Hunky Dory' in there, as well as a live version of 'Rock n' Roll With Me'. A kaleidoscopic LP from the master of reinvention, posthumously reinventing himself once more.

Review: This special 50th Anniversary Edition of the late great David Bowie's soundtrack to his iconic Ziggy Stardust & The Spiders From Mars show comes on double gold vinyl for the first time since it was originally recorded. Despite Ziggy being Bowie's most loved alter ego, he retired it much to the chagrin of fans (and band members, who had no idea it was coming) live on stage at London's Hammersmith Odeon. The farewell speech he gave is included here along with a medley of 'The Jean Genie'/'Love Me Do' and 'Round And Round' featuring Jeff Beck and plenty of other Bowie classics from that era. A real moment of rock 'n' roll history, then.

Featuring classic songs such as 'Moonage Daydream', 'Starman', 'Rock 'n' Roll Suicide' and 'Ziggy Stardust', this 50th anniversary edition includes a remastered version of the original album on two CDs, plus a Blu-ray disc with the restored film and bonus features.

Review: RECOMMENDED
Boy Harsher really can do no wrong. The dark wave, minimal-leaning devil disco synthers - AKA vocalist Jae Matthews and producer Augustus Muller - have been making music to blow minds, and accompany visceral imagery, since long before they had tracks licensed for TV and movies. So it's fitting they have now graduated to writing an entire score, and what a score it is.

The Runner spans the groove-infused, mechanically euphoric 'Autonomy', through the sinister and unsettlingly tense 'The Ride Home', 'Machina' and its sexy retro-futurism, 'Escape''s e-funk warm balladry, and so much more. It's a wild ride through an after dark world that's as familiar today as it was in the 1980s, and yet still feels like a true adventure. Compelling to listen to, and that's putting it mildly.

Review: Nicholas Britell's 2016 soundtrack to Oscar-winning movie Moonlight has been universally praised for its eccentric and surprisingly experimental approach. Britell, best known for composing neo-classical works, delivered a score inspired by the "chopped and screwed" production style that has been a feature of the experimental hip-hop scene for the last few years. Yet he wasn't slowing down and tampering with R&B vocal samples, but rather his own chamber music compositions (think violins, violas and cellos). It's a curious formula that makes for breathlessly exciting listening throughout, and a movie soundtrack that pleasingly eschews familiar themic staples in favour of something a little more daring and avant-garde.

Review: Chris Brokaw's resume over the past 25 years reads like a "who's who" of indie rock alumni. Starting as the founding member of Codeine and followed up by fronting rock mainstay Come, Brokaw has established himself as a renaissance man of songwriting. Collaborating with Liz Phair, John McEntire (Tortoise), Rhys Chatham, Evan Dando, Glenn Jones, Thurston Moore and even a brief stint with GG Allin, it is sometimes easier to list who Chris Brokaw hasn't played with rather than everyone who has crossed his path. After his time with Come, Brokaw lent his talents to bands such as Pullman, Consonant and The New Year, constantly evolving and changing his pace and rhythm.

Nowadays, Brokaw stays booked by a constant tour schedule and his duties with Dirtmusic alongside Hugo Race (of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds fame). When the dust settles in the off-season, Brokaw finds himself a more mature career path as a composer of film scores and soundtracks. Previous works for lauded independent art-house films such as I Was Born, But... and Road made Brokaw's instrumentals a familiar tone amongst the independent film community. After a slew of solo releases from labels such as 12XU, Atavistic, Brokaw's own Capitan Records and his highly praised acoustic outing on Vin Du Select Qualitite, Brokaw sat down with the award winning film "Now, Forager" to score it's lucid narrative outlining the story of two lovers joined in the unusual scenario of mushroom foraging which pushes their unstable relationship to its limits.

Limited edition of 500 vinyl copies featuring previously unreleased songs and bonus tracks not found in the film.
