Notes: The audiowerkstatt midi-clock-divider divides the MIDI-clock of the MIDI-master, whereby the MIDI-slave runs correspondingly slower. The division-ratios are 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, ..., 1/8, 1/9.

If the division-factor 1/1 is selected, the MIDI-clock is simply passed through. With the division-factor of 1/2 the MIDI-slave runs at half the speed. So 16ths-notes will be 8th-notes and the loop is twice as long.

Notes: You push the button and the audiowerkstatt midi-restarter sends a MIDI-start/stop-message at the beginning of the next bar to ensure that all following MIDI-devices run in the correct timing.

There are 3 modes of operation:

1. At the beginning of the next bar, a MIDI-stop-message and immediately after that a MIDI-start-message is sent. In this mode, a standing sequencer is restarted and a running sequencer is "pushed" into the correct timing. This mode does not work with all MIDI-devices as some devices require a short break between MIDI-stop- and MIDI-start-message. For these devices, the second mode can be selected.

2. A short time before the next bar starts (one MIDI-clock-message=1/24 quarter-note), a MIDI-stop-message is sent and then at the next bar a MIDI-start-message is sent. In this mode, a standing sequencer is restarted and a running sequencer is - after a very short break - "pushed" to the correct timing. This mode corresponds to the first and is intended for MIDI-devices that require a short break between MIDI-start- and MIDI-stop-message.

3. If the sequencer is running, a MIDI-stop-message is sent at the next bar and if the sequencer is standing, a MIDI-start-message is sent at the next bar. In this mode, a standing sequencer is restarted and running sequencer is stopped at the next bar.

It can be switched between the time-signatures 4/4 and 3/4.

You can also set whether only the newly created MIDI-clock and the MMC commands (start, stop, continue) are sent or the MIDI-data, received at the MIDI-in, will be mixed with that.

Based on a classic analog step-sequencer - optimized for jam-sessions
Notes: The audiowerkstatt mini-midi-step-seq is a MIDI-sequencer (no gate/CV), which is based on a classic analog step-sequencer:

- Programming with potentiometers (no endless-dial and no detent)
- Only one track
- No pattern-storage
- No internal clock (only usable as MIDI-slave)
- No display

It is optimized for live use, especially jam-sessions, but can also be used to give you new ideas, if you are stuck in your main sequencer.

- All settings can be changed while it's running.
- 2 x 8-step-pattern, that can be used alternatively or chained to a 16-step-pattern.
- Normally the pattern changes, when the one that is played ends. With a special "jump"-button it is possible to jump from one pattern to the other immediately without loosing synchronization.
- It is possible to edit the pattern that is playing or edit the other pattern.
- LEDs next to the potentiometers display after changing the pattern, if the position of the potentiometer is corresponding to the used value. If not, the position of the potentiometer is not used and the LED stays dark until the potentiometer passed the used value.
- One pattern can be copied to the other.
- Several steps can be put together, to get different note-lenths in one sequence.
- The first step can be adjusted (independently for each pattern, to make it possible to get sequences with odd numbers of steps, that are bigger than 7 steps (e.g. 13 steps).
- The last step can be adjusted (independently for each pattern, to make it possible to get sequences with odd numbers of steps, that are bigger than 7 steps (e.g. 13 steps).
- The clock-divider can be set in 8 steps (1/1 to 1/32).
- The velocity can be set in 7 steps (1 to 127).
- The 8th position for velocity is a mode, where a random number is created for each step and used as velocity.
- The range that can be programmed with the potentiometers (from full anticlockwise to full clockwise), can be set in 7 steps (13 notes to 128 notes).
- The 8th position for range is a mode, where the same note is played for every step and the potentiometers are used to program pitchbend. This makes it possible to program patterns, that are not pitch-quantized in halftone-steps. Because pitchbend is interpreted different from synthesizer to synthesizer, the maximum range that can be programmed, depends on the used synthesizer.
- The lowest note can be set in 8 steps to transpose (C0 bis C7).
- The gate-length can be set in 16 steps. The highest value makes the last note end after the new note starts to get a legato-effect.
- It is possible to generate two additional notes by setting their interval to the note set by the potentiometers. You get up to 3-voice polyphonic patterns similar to things done with "chord memory".
- The sequencer can be pushed forward or backward a step or midi-clock-tick (same as audiowerkstatt midi-clock-shifter ).
- If you got lost (e.g. after changing clock-divider, first- or last-step), you can restart the sequencer without stopping the master (same as audiowerkstatt midi-restarter ).
- All settings can be changed while the sequencer is running and all settings are stored after powering down.

Converts analog trigger clock signals to MIDI clock signals & vice versa
Notes: If used as trigger-clock-to-MIDI-clock-converter or MIDI-clock-to-trigger-clock-converter, there is always a MIDI-clock-signal (incl. start/stop) sent at the "midi out"-jack. At the tip of the "clock"-phone-jack, an analog trigger-clock-signal (v-trigger: 0v/5v, s-trigger "open"/"closed") is sent. The tip of the "start/stop"-phone-jack is 5v while the masterclock is running and 0v while the masterclock is paused for v-trigger and "closed" while the masterclock is running and "open" while the masterclock is paused, if s-trigger is used.

A clock-source can be connected to the "midi in"-jack or to the ring of the "clock"- and "start/stop"-phone-jack.

Normal insert-cables can be used to connect the analog inputs/outputs. If only the analog outputs are used, normal phone-jack-cables (mono or stereo) can be used.

The following parameters can be adjusted:

1. Clock-source (MIDI-clock or analog trigger-clock).
2. Trigger-type of the analog input (s-trigger or v-trigger).
3. Trigger-type of the analog output (s-trigger or v-trigger).
4. Clock-divider of the incoming analog trigger-clock (1/4, 1/8. 1/16 or 1/32).
5. Clock-divider of the outgoing analog trigger-clock (1/4, 1/8. 1/16 or 1/32).
6. Pulse-length of the outgoing analog trigger-clock (adjustable in 6 steps, the pulse-length is calculated dependent on clock-divider and clock-frequency).

In addition to the clock-signal, start-/stop-signals from the masterclock are detected and processed, but it is also possible to send start-/stop-signals manual.

The settings for the analog output (trigger.type out, clock.divider out and pulse.length) can be changed without losing synchronisation, while the masterclock is running.

The audiowerkstatt trigger2midi2trigger can also be used as a tool for analog-trigger-signals, if it isn't used as a converter.

Dual, four-quadrant multiplier with VC Offset - assembled version
Notes: Each of the two sections of the module is capable of performing the analog multiplication of two signals (A and B) and add an offset (C). It can also act as a dual voltage controlled attenuverter, dual ring modulator, dual VCA or four channel mixer (see block diagram below).

A wavefolder converts simple signals into richer and more dynamically changing ones. In contrast to a filter, wavefolding adds harmonic content to the waveform. It works by amplifying the waveform until it begins to saturate, then rather than clipping, the waveform gets folded back in on itself.

Notes: This is the second iteration of the Crush Delay. It is an echo-delay unit based on the PT2399 IC, which although able to offer 400 ms of clean delay, has a special talent for generating digital garbage and noise! The beautiful freak features multiple circuit bends to the chip, an FX send & return, and up to 2 seconds of filthy digital delay.

This model has been improved greatly from the first version with extensive signal routing changes to improve performance and extend its range of sonic possibilities.

The new Crush Delay features two VCAs to control the amount of signal sent to the delay. The first is routed to both the dry/wet mix and the delay, and the second directly to the delay. Combining the second VCA and the FX Send output allows for external feedback routings (see block diagram below).

The biggest improvement from the previous version of the module is to the control of PT2399 itself through the application of circuit bending techniques. It has an improved and extended speed control, offering a wider range and smoother control of the Crush section, converting this unit into a VC digital garbage generator!

It also includes three gate controllable switches to enable the three circuit-bends on the chip providing a high level of control over the digital noise, glitches and general nasty mayhem!

The VC feedback features an automatic gain control to keep levels stable at any feedback level.

6-channel performance mixer with EQ's & mutes
Notes: Hex mix VCA is a compact six channel VCA with an unique response curve range from logarythmic to linear and to exponential using a pot.

Instrument/signal processor module - 11HP
Notes: There may come a time when you want to marry the rest of your rig with your Eurorack system. The Instrument Interface (I2) is designed to take a wide range of signals and transform them into a set of useful Eurorack compatible voltage levels.

The module uses an envelope follower circuit to achieve direct control of the amplitude of any incoming signal, producing a control voltage proportional to its amplitude. This allows a real and direct communication between external sound sources and Eurorack systems.

The Instrument interface module has the following functional blocks:

Preamp:
With two audio inputs (6.5mm jack and Mini-jack), amplification of the input signal is controlled by the "Gain" pot.

The minimum signal required to generate the maximum envelope is 200mV peak and allows up to 5v input.

BPF:
The signal will then pass thru a band pass filter with cut-off frequency and bandwidth control via "Freq" and "Width" pots. This will set the frequency range of our control signal.

After this stage the signal can be accessed at synth level via "Audio Out".

Env. Follower:
After filtering the signal it will feed into the "Response" stage which determines the envelope follower's response velocity. It features a "High", "Medium" and "Low" selector switch to achieve the optimal envelope for different kind of signals. "Follo Out" will output the extracted envelope and has a level indicator LED. Green: Medium level; Orange: High level; and Red: Max. Level.

Env. Regenerator:
"Rege Out" is a regenerated envelope that allows independent control of the rise part of the envelope with the "Attack" knob, and the fall part with the "Decay" knob.

The Envelope Regenerator also features an LED indicator for the regenerated envelope level. Green: Medium level, Orange: High level, Red: Max. Level.

Trig. Extractor:
With the "Threshold" pot we can control the level of a comparator that determines when "Gate Out" and "Trigg Out" outputs will be activated.

"Gate Out" is active while the envelope is over the threshold we set, while "Trigg Out" is activated just when the threshold is passed.

Indicator LEDS show when the outputs are active.

Innovative multi-function synth module - 8HP
Notes: The Sampling Modulator is a multi-function module that lies somewhere between a VCO, a Sample & Hold, and an 8 step trigger sequencer.

This module can function as:

- Sequencer Clocked Sample & Hold
In this mode it acts like a regular Sample and Hold (S&H) but since it is "sequencer clocked", it is capable of much more interesting patterns than the usual S&H melodies.

The CLOCK input can work in two ways; 1) As a typical clock 2) In "positive going hard sync" mode allowing you to create shuffling and polyrhythmic effects.

The HOLD input can be used to keep certain notes playing.

- Analog Down-Sampling Effect
In this mode (with the clock running at audio rates) you can go from nasty and harsh sampling rate reduction to an almost clean signal. (The clock run up to 25Khz without external CV and up to 200Khz with CV on the input).

- Sampling Modulator/Shaper
Thanks to the V/Oct clock, by feeding a simple waveshape such as a sine wave to IN, and pitch CV to the VCO as well as to the Sampling Modulator CV input, their related frequencies and aliasing caused by the sampling rate reduction are capable of creating metallic sounds, 8 bit textures and much more.

The game becomes much more interesting when you try to destroy the wave by flipping on and off the switches of the sequencer (which at times can make it sound like three VCOs running in unison).

To understand how the Sampling Modulator works, keep in mind that we are working with a temperature compensated ramp core VCO with more than 4 octaves of tracking. This allows the timbre to stay the same while you move through the scale as the internal and external VCOs are synced in a fashion similar to "frequency related sampling rate modulation".

- 8 step trigger sequencer
A simple utility trigger generator which is also useful as clock divider. The switches have three positions: On, Off and Reset (which resets to the first step for non 4/4 signatures)

- Unusual V/oct VCO
You can use the trigger outputs as a pulse VCO. Flipping the switches on and off the switches can offer a lot of interesting timbral changes.

CV controlled spring reverb - 8HP
Notes: Electronically generated audio will usually sound starkly different to acoustically generated sound. This is more-often-than-not a desirable thing, but there are times when you might want to bring the "depth" of an acoustic environment back into your mix. The obvious difference between acoustic and synthesised sounds is that acoustic instruments have resonators, and exist in reverberant spaces. One way to add depth to an electronic sound is to somehow simulate the characteristics of a space, and mix this with the original signal.

Reverberation can be defined as the sum of all the reflections created from an initial sound source within a space, at a point within that space, over time.

To simulate this effect we can pass a sound through a spring with two transducers at either end. As the sound propagates it will cause the spring to expand and contract, creating a series of reflections that are picked up by the transducers (along with the original sound). This creates a simulation of reverberation with (in the case of spring of the reverb) a characteristic and classic colour.

FEATURES
The module has two audio inputs both of which can be CV or slider controlled:
- "IN1" is routed both to "DRY" mix and reverb tank input
- "IN2" Goes only to the reverb tank

The module also has 2 outputs:
- "WET" comes straight from reverb tank
- "MIX" is the mix of DRY signal and the output of reverb tank. It has CV control

It is possible to feedback the "WET" signal back into the module via "IN2" in either a straight feedback path or after passing through other modules before returning to "IN2".

With the "MIX" control we can control the amount of reverb and feedback in the mix while maintaining the presence of the original signal.

The module also features a high-pass filter at the input of the tank to control the colour of the reverberation and to tame saturation that may be created in the spring during feedback.

Finally there is a built-in VU meter connected to the "WET" output to visualise the level and saturation of the signal.
