Overcome (9:00)
Lady Science (NYC Sunrise) (9:22)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!: Trelik returns with a repackaged edition of one of the catalogue's most treasured releases. "Overcome" and "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)" need little introduction, and now come sporting the new TR11:11 matrix number. Written and produced by Thomas Melchior and Baby Ford aka Soul Capsule, these tracks came from one of the many sessions recorded at the West London Ifach Studio in 1999. On the A Side "Overcome" is stripped back and energetic, driven by rolling and shuffling garage style beats, tight bubbling bass and atmospheric synth pads. The intermittent vocal samples and the release's signature organ set you up for the flip, "Lady Science (NYC Sunrise)". Possibly one of house music's most emotive pieces, the track builds slowly with the introduction of each part building a story of soulful optimism based around a sparse palette of deep synths, uplifting keys and warm analogue bass. The understated beauty of the main vocal riff never seems to grow old or tired with the track lending itself perfectly to either main room, peak-time play or after-hours sessions alike. Remastered by Rashad at D & M.

Law Of Grace (10:45)
Meltdown (6:28)
Lady Science (Tek mix) (5:52)
Review: As Soul Capsule, Baby Ford and Thomas Melchior made some of minimal techno's most accomplished records. It has been many years since they stopped turning out new material - sadly - but their archive tracks are still in hot demand and undeniably relevant. While 1999's 'Lady Science' might be their most famous offering, this EP from 2001 on Aspect Music is no less vital and it will currently cost you well over L250 on second-hand markets. It is Ford's Trelik label who reissues it here in all its glory: the entirety of the a-side is taken up with 'Law Of Grace,' a delightfully deep and breezy minimal dub house roller with pensive chords draped over the frictionless drums. 'Meltdown' has a more experimental feel with brushed metal drums beneath a wordless vocal musing. The cult 'Lady Science' (Tek Mix) is also inched with the whole package being remastered by D&M to make this one utterly essential.

Go Up was originally a defective release which has since been corrected and remastered and Vol 3 - 02 was not released. It also features a megamix of Ambient Love and Squeeze Up (which feature on Cosmic Soup 005) by Gene On Earth and a remix of Flare's Grip - Prism Remix by Matthew Herbert titled "Herbert's Make It Right Dub". Three legends on this EP. Superbly remastered and cut by Mike Grinser at Manmade in Berlin. Artwork by John Williams.

Tea Party (4:50)
On The Floor (6:04)
The Healing (6:16)
Word For Word (4:16)
Review: Legendary minimal - and acid house before that - pioneer Baby Ford very much set the blueprint for the genre back in the late 90s, both solo and with The Ifach Collective, who featured Ian Loveday, Mark Broom and Thomas Melchior (amongst others). Now they are reminding us of the greatness of that work with the first in a series of reissues coming in 2023. These tunes were originally put out back on the legendary Klang Elektronik in 2000. First up is 'Tea Party' by Eon, M-Core, and Baby Ford, an ice-cold rolling dub. 'On The Floor' with Mark Broom gets more percussive and then comes a solo cut from Baby Ford, 'The Healing' which is as heady as can be and finally 'Word For Word' featuring Cheru Amadi layers up slithers of silvery percussion and cuddly bass into dubbed-out tech heaven.

A Beladen Date 4 Ever (10:44)
Transport Fighter (9:43)
Review: Baby Ford's Trelik label is as revered as they come in underground circles. Ion Ludwig is not far behind when it comes to his productions and so the two are a perfect match who reunite once more here. This fresh 12" kicks off with the brain cleansing minimalism of 'A Beladen Date 4 Ever', a silky groove doused in harmonic chords, with swirling pads and rubbery bass all tightly intertwining. 'Transport Fighter' is a more punchy cut with thudding kicks and heftier bass, but still a nebulous eco-system of pads and melodies swirling around up top. Two killer cuts. no doubt.

Ricardo Villalobos & Maher Daniel - "Periodica" (11:06)
Maher Daniel - "Analogue Future" (12:06)
Review: Some two years after the first part of their collaborative EP series hit record stores, Ricardo Villalobos and Maher Daniel have finally delivered volume three. In keeping with their previous joint excursions, epic A-side 'Periodica' is gently dark, feverish and mind-altering, with deep and drowsy Rhodes chords, bleeping electronics and trippy noises clustering around a typically off-kilter, bass-heavy Villalobos style groove (for all his faults, the Chilean can programme drums better than almost anyone else). Also impressive is Maher's flipside solo cut 'Analogue Future', an arguably rhythmically straighter and tougher affair in which a mind-mangling groove comes laden with broken computer sounds, freaky electronic glitches, occasional guitar riffs and dubbed-out vocal snippets.

Review: As evidenced by the cover of this latest EP, Belgian house artist Hermanez has his head in the clouds. Similarly, if we were to liken the weight of his productions to a cloud, it would probably be a dense cumulonimbus, ready to pour it all down on us. That's because every track on this bit has extra-special, nuanced attention paid to its drums, all of which are backed up by immense, emotive bassweight to boot.

Review: 'State Of Mind' by Mephisto was originally released in 1992 as an Italian house precursor to trance. The single, receiving four mixes, was among the many wax releases to propel the producer (real name Maurizio D'Ambrosio) to longlasting acclaim, thanks to an affiliation with the label Palmares Records & Tapes. This new re-edit from Renaissance Records hears the 1992 version on the B with a 2022 rerub on the A by none other than UK house pushers Gorgon City.

Review: Chris Stussy's Up The Stuss label is one of the hottest out there right now - a fresh label setting the underground with its mix of spaced out breaks and deep house, slick minimal and futurist techno sounds. Jhobei is part of that revolution and lands here with a fresh four tacker that cones on nice blue vinyl, with 'Slink 'N Slide' - a throwback sound with rave overtones and rapping basslines that never quit - and 'Viral Vendor' (Trance mix) among the rigid groove highlights.

Review: Rooting the productions of Frits Wentink in one specific style has always been tough, primarily because he makes quirky, oddball house and techno numbers that draw inspiration from the dust-encrusted, sample-rich haziness of MPC-driven instrumental hip-hop. His latest EP, which arrives on the popular Bobby Donny imprint, is another boundary-blurring affair that's closest in tone and style to deep house, but is as far from 'standard' deep house as you'd expect. It's a great collection of cuts all told, with our picks being the bassline driven, alien-sounding unorthodoxy of 'You Talk Funny', the warped, mind-mangling tech-house-jazz of 'Forestation' and the deliciously hazy, hypnotic dub-house of 'Shred Bread'.

Review: This record is named after Vedanta, an ancient philosophy based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India. The music, originally composed and produced by Joseph S Joyce and later remixed by Sebastian Mullaert of Minilogue, was greatly inspired, after reading commentaries from Swami Rama Tirtha's biography "The Scientist & Mahatma" - Chapter 1 - Vedanta and The Secret of Success. Now, some nine years later, it gets served up as a remix EP. There's a dark El Choop Reconstruct, a gorgeous ambient version from Sebastian Mullaert, a minimal headscape from Van Bonn, Federson SF goes warm and dubby and then a crisp, tech-edged vibe from Paul 90 ends the EP in style.

Kutika (Remotif remix) (7:46)
Review: Psychedelic dance technicians explore the recesses of weird emotion with their latest release with Latrec. The original 'Kutika' is like a pocket calculator gone rogue, blending an electrified MPC-style jam on the beat with dubbed-out vocal samples and an oddly resonant bass synth. Paranoid London member Quinn Whalley crops up on the B-side, together with Matt Cowell under the name The WC, for a remix - the toilet humour is apt, since this version of the track does sort of sound like it's sloshing around in a washbasin, with its verbed-out delays on the bass. Remotif, meanwhile, throws a driving trance curveball on the B2.

Review: A neat slice of UK house with unorthodox and bleepy elements courtesy of fresh producer Rossi here. 12" 'Feel It' spans everything from breaksteppy hard house to UKG, urging the floorbound masses to "feel alright" through an unapologetic, repetitive insistence in vocal sample form. The instrumental is just as effective, revealing a drummy, hi-NRG underbelly. Garrett David's version is the final garage number, adding curious bell chords and a garage swing.

Kiko - "Love Triangle" (Mia Mendi remix) (6:57)
Review: Kiko & POPOF deliver a new 'minimal' EP that both kicks and pops off. 'Night Sky', however, abstracts the 'minimal' style into something that is actually quite maximal; though duly working in the tech house formula, the sound palette is dystopian and dark. Doing justice to the French pair's long-standing good rep - Kiko has but 500+ releases to his name - it's only natural that we hear something so fresh. Transformer sound FX and sci-fi impacts adorn each transition, especially on Yulia Niko and Mia Mendi's remixes, coaxing out twin states of ecstasy and dread.

Review: Better-known in the Motor City as DJ Gusto, August Williams makes his bow on Detroit's original techno imprint, Juan Atkins' much-loved Metroplex. He first offers up 'The Hook Up', a relaxed electro workout marked out by hip-hop tempo beats, sparkling synthesiser arpeggio lines and gorgeous electronic melodies, before opting for a more hypnotic, dark, clandestine and minimalistic techno sound on superb machine jam 'Dark T'. Williams successfully blurs the boundaries between late-night deep house and sci-fi techno on 'Pushback', while 'Submission' pairs a vintage Motor City techno style groove with discordant, mind-mangling motifs.

Very Being (Deepchord remix) (9:32)
Very Being (Deadbeat Blood & Bones dub) (6:16)
Lost In You (FDF Downunder cut) (6:37)
Review: It would probably be a sin not to describe the work of Mike Schommer (and his affiliates) as 'atmospheric'. While the word is a music reviewers' cliche, 'City Sleeps Remixes Part 2' is also the kind of music to which it best applies. Following up the first remix bundle of Schommer's monumentally emotive album 'City Sleeps' (the first volume heard the likes of dub techno legends CV313 and Steve O Sullivan), this follow-up comes back just as strongly with a response from Deepchord, Deadbeat and Freud der Familie. Deepchord's remix is a free-associative pulse through a dejected, rain-soaked 'scape (the occasional 'night bus' vocal can be heard). FDF and Deadbeat, meanwhile, get overtly dubbier and with it. FDF's is particularly evocative of hawkishly looking out over a landscape, half-blind, its light only periodically being let through.

Review: Matt and Mark Thibideau have been quietly issuing plush, melodious strains of minimal house and techno for a long time now. While they may be more of a cult concern for those in the know, the quality of their productions remains an enduring delight that works magic on a dancefloor. Look no further than this new record for Berg Audio, which leads in with the swirling synthesis of '5 Stage Development' in a masterful display of dubby techno before the delays get ramped up even further for 'Slate Range'. Balancing the meditative pulse of their synths with a crisp line in drum programming, they delve into further realms of dubbed out 4/4 perfection with 'Serge 5.0 (rework)' and bliss out in style for closing cut 'Monumental Change'.

Review: Cologne's Hoove label makes a welcome return here with more fresh and contemporary house offerings from a range of interesting names. The always reliable Kolter is up first with 'U Make Me Feel' - a nice and inviting, well swung and mid tempo tech cut with some astral pads. J. Feierabend & Rami's 'OK, Captain!' is just as smooth a cruise through space and Thalo Santana then offers something a little different with a more drum led sound - 'Duradura' has pristine kicks and snares with incidental melodies unfurling up high. D&J's lovely 90s throwback deep house sound 'So We Danced' might be the best of the lot.

For a little more esoteric mischief then head for either of the two Dorisburg remixes. The main one wriggles and writhes with an ice cold electro spirit while Dorisburg's 'beats remix' proceeds to space things out even more, adding even more intensity and drama. Feeling these type of beats? 'Ditto'.

Review: RFXN kicks off life with a new single from David Agrella which has seen early support from Ricardo Villalobos. First off he offers up his own Acid Mix of 'Perro Balearico' and it's a supple, deep and dubby track with liquid synths and prog chords that sound both retro and future all at once. The original is a more dreamy and spaced-out sound for 5 am sessions. On the flip is a more punch but still silky and warmly melodic remix from Mario Liberti before last of all, Gabriel Rai gets darker. His drums hit harder and the synths are moodier as he takes dancers down a late-night path of mystery and intrigue.

'The Gay From Ipanema' is the minimal originals lover's choice, channelling a straight, Herbertized palette of found metallic sound. 'Labamola' nods more to bleep, while the remix credited to one mysterious 'R Villalobos' fearlessly ups the tempo to electro velocity, working in no end of sci-fi whooshes and burbles.

While 'The Call' lulls us into a false sense of security with its 4x4 groove and expositionally fluttery synthwork, the ensuing tracks 'What You Say' suddenly get jiggy with it, dashing said sense to the side with its unpredictable scratches, shakes and syncopations. Closer 'Objects' continues this charge, easing up on the atmosphere in favour of pure rhythmic exercise, tempered by wompy transitions and strange metallics.

Musically, he started out loving house, then tech, and now gets his thrills from techno if this new EP is anything to go by. It's a selection of remixes of 'Sunshine' and first up is the top tier duo of SHDW & Obscure Shape who go for the jugular with a hard hitting version, firing synths flashing for the metallic drum loops and a rising sense of melodic tension. It's a deep exploration of supple rhythm here with 'Ceiling Licker' mix up diffuse ambient arps and organic sounds from the great outdoors with a bubbling bassline. 'Hundred' is a trippy late night cut with a ghostly atmosphere and muted bells and chords drifting into earshot from way off in the distance. He's released on a range of labels before kicking off his own GFD outlet which is where he appears this time out. The first two tunes are next to Nu Eau and 'Den Sing' is all bubbling bass and supple lines with a tripped-out cosmic feel, then 'Vibe Shift' gets more gritty with its basslines while smooth chords soothe the soul. 'Straight Ahead' is a frosted dub techno roller with plenty of bounce. The synths are perfectly tweaked, the drums smooth and frictionless and the vibes heady but dynamic. 'Istanbul Latenight' is a more driving cut with a quicker pace but no less depth and 'Sand & Stars' is slowed down, tripped out late night dub for smokers. 'Moonlight Moods' is the more tech-leaning closer but it's another classy tune.

They tap into sweaty backroom club sounds for this new one on the evergreen Crosstown Rebels as 'Can't Stand' is a heads-down pumper with a steamy, libidinous female vocal that's nicely filtered over thudding kicks. You can always rely on German Robag Wruhme to take things into weird and wonderful territory and that's what he does with Flodder Bukk Rehand, a darker and more menacing rework with fizzing synths and more attitude in the vocals. Off White (6:19)
This Is Underground (6:30)
Review: Fresh from making his debut alongside VLTRA on Realm Records, Italian DJ Francis De Simone delivers his first solo outing - a formidable four-track EP on Hot Creations that puts deep, sub-heavy bass and bustling, energetic beats at the heart of the action. Playing drums at the ripe age of 2, with a club bouncer father, dance music runs in the family blood. He sets out with 'London Bass', a non-stop stomp built around house beats, low-register acid bass and tongue-in-cheek vocal samples, before opting for a mix of Derrick Carter style 'boompty' beats, deep sub, chopped-up vocal snippets and Yorkshire style bleeps. Over on the B-side, 'Off White' pairs a deep and booming bassline with shuffling, speed-garage style drums, while 'This Is Underground' sees Simone reach for rubbery electrofunk bass, with that driving bassline present throughout.

Review: Following releases on Windmuhle, Playedby and HAZE, Romanian producer and DJ Alin Crihan returns with his latest EP which comes out via Alsi's Elements imprint. There's three quality tracks on the Recurring Figures EP; the majestic and fantastical production of "Periodic Arrangement" will have you in awe by way of its mesmerising soundscape underpinned by elaborate polythyrhms. Over on the flip, go deep into the Transylvanian woods on the brooding twilight deep of "Regular Intervals" and finally something strictly for the afterhours dancefloor on the arcane trance induction of "Again & Again".

Alone At Pisecka 12 (7:08)
Review: New York label and party Mister Saturday always brings roughed up, raw and steamy house grooves. This new one is no exception to that unwritten rule and it comes from Russell El Butler who serves up four platters that matter. 'Blah Blah' is a brilliantly brainless house romp with vocal loops and distorted kicks making you march. 'Kruymska' is more tight and taught thanks to the pinging kick drums and molten melodies up top, while 'Tout Va Bien' is a late night cut that glistens thanks to its prickly bass and razor sharp hats. 'Alone At Pisecka 12' closes out in malfunctioning fashion to round out a wide-ranging EP.

Maybe Some Heat (7:26)
At The Blaumilchkanal (6:17)
Overtone (7:20)
Review: It's 15 up for the ever-reliable Playedby label here as Aloe Varu aka Dan Andrei steps up for some of his cortex-twisting afterparty minimal and tech. 'Maybe Some Heat' is a slow burner that draws you into its scratchy drum loops and teases with smart fills, filter cuts and subtle chord placement. 'At The Blaumilchkanal' goes darker and deeper into a shadowy world that keeps you looking over your shoulder as distant drones snake amidst loose tambourines. It's closer 'Overtone' then seals the deal here with expertly programmed drums locking you into a meditative minimal groove.

Colonizer Appreciation Day (6:01)
Review: There's a high-concept story attached to the TerraFirm label that is intriguingly well formed and thorough. It goes like this: "TerraFirm provides the desiccated, toxified, irradiated or otherwise uninhabitable planets of this sector with a suite of services to rectify any environmental challenge." Taking the reins for the seventh outing is Spandrel who serves up bendy, rubbery, body-popping house-cum-techno. 'Floaterz' is a deep cruiser, and so is 'Night Winds Eternal' but with trippy melodies. On the flipside, 'Ornithological Studies' gets more bristly in its cosmic excursions and last of all is the superbly hooky and loopy dub tech roller 'Colonizer Appreciation Day.'

Review: Janky five-track minimal techno from Kiev producer O'Fourtyfour, topping up a slew of releases for the likes of Pahatam and Closer, for this latest one on his own label Sequalog. Truly sounding like the magic goings-on heard from a sly wizard's enchanting table, the devilish concoctions brewed up here include the echoic 'Exalted' and the effervescent 'Topka'. The B-side charts an oddball curve, seguing into snappy dreamlectro with 'Aurora 41' and downtempo dubiousness with 'Green Abyss'.

Wonder (Rhadoo remix) (14:27)
Review: Sleep Is Commercial continues to be a potent force in the field of up-all-night minimal and micro house, and now they're welcoming the breakthrough talents of Boss to the table. This is quintessential minimal through and through, as 'Wonder' holds down a crisp, fine slither of a beat as a vessel for scattered pings and plongs to suit the disassociated dancer's inquisitive mind. Meanwhile Perlon co-founder Markus Nikolai brings his debonair flair to the track with a fizzy, funky version to appeal to those who like their minimal a little cheekier. Then Rhadoo finishes the record off with a smudged, tripped out inversion of the track for when you want to take things really deep.

Review: Ukrainian mainstay Silat Beksi offers up three calmly techy new tracks for minimal label Sous-Vide, which is one of the labels at the forefront of pushing only the best of Ukrainian tech talent at present. 'At Your Fingertips' a keen tune; super lush pads hit like psychic realisations, while the of 'Hawking Points' is just as tricky and flicky.

Review: London's Phonica Records is celebrating being 20 years strong, not only a shop but also a label that serves as a breeding ground for all manner of new musical talents. What better way to mark the commencement of its third decade, then, than with some new music? 20 Years Of Phonica: Sampler 3 pulls together artists from the electronic vanguard, starting with Paramida & E-Talking's 'Read My Lips' which is an acid-laced 90s techno revival. Dauwd's 'Slam' is stripped back and pulses with acid and Daniel Avery's 'Bell' is languid, melodic and gorgeously serene techno. Willow's 'Willbush' is a skeletal minimal rhythm with some nice wobbly bass weight.

Review: Shadow Sanctuary label head Dexter Kane steps up here with a first volume of a new series entitled DK Wax. It is all direct to dance floor club tackle for the minimal and tech house world but all with Kane's own style. 'Shadow Of Jaguars' opens with silly drums looping down low and nice raw perc. '
A Siege Of Herons' then picks up the pace with a bumping groove fleshy out with fat bass and cosmic chords and the brilliantly entitled 'A Klank Of Robots' is all buffed up with a subtle garage shuffle, tripped out and sci-fi melodies and a groove that won't quit.

Review: Canadian artist Mathew Jonson has always rather been in a class of one. His proper jazz grounding combine with the genuine mastery of his synths means his electronic music is a cut above the rest. His melodies mean that much more and once again he proves that beyond doubt with a new sonic journey on this latest 12". It comes on Mexico-born label Kilometro 4.5 and opens with a nine-minute epic in 'Into The 5d' which is driven by pulling rubbery kicks and has majestic, ever-shifting leads that take you to the stars in sublime and serene fashion. On the flip is a space dub that is exactly that, a dubbed-out cosmic odyssey.

O Seara De Ragaz
O Seara De Ragaz (Aubrey RMX)
O Seara De Ragaz (Prins Thomas remix)
Review: Taking his name from a now-submerged island in the Danube, Bucharest's hotly demanded composer Ada Kaleh prints another 12" that is sure to sell out like the others. This time, the single on the docket is Side B from his 2018 double single 'Roua Diminetti / O seara de ragaz', featuring two remixes from the likes of Norway's space-disco wizard Prins Thomas and Solid Groove's founder and Sheffield's finest Aubrey. The original single is a dark one to move to, a driving, subtle beat underpins the sensational percussion - perfect for the middle of the night. Aubrey takes things in a completely different direction, taking a far more noisy and in-your-face approach with a mysterious twist; Odd sounding percussion and synths fly in and out through the 'RMX' that give it an otherworldly feel. Thomas picks things up the only way he knows how, with his distinguishable brand of space-age techno-disco, the bassline giving this particular cut a production-line rhythm. The perfect soundtrack to construct your robot army to.

The Cro2ma EP is a three-tracker featuring Detroit elements and bleepy bass that you've come to know and love from the Irish producer. From the contemplative electro of the title track, to the minimal hi-tech funk of 'IG00158' and the deep, acid-tinged techno of 'Highborne' which closes it out on an emotive tip - it's altogether highly accessible yet intricate in design.

Review: For a couple of years a decade or so ago Visionquest was a DJ collective and label that ruled the world. In the time since it has sunk back to the shadows, regrouped and come back as another vital force in the underground. This EP brings together a wealth of real talents not least the one and only synth wizard Mathew Jonson who opens up with the artful sounds of 'These Tears.' Cesar Merveille's 'Decennium' then gets wonky with tightly coiled minimal drums overlaid with pensive chords. On the flipside 'Wonder Wheel' gets a little more eerie and trippy with hunting keys leading you down a late-night maze and 'Dirty Pathways' from Vinyl Speed Adjust layering up the deft synths and airy rhythms.

Review: Young Adults are breaking through with a sound they self-describe as "merging electro with that endless minimalistic groove." Well, that should give you some idea of what to expect from this drop for Amsterdam label Undefined, which has hosted the likes of S-Max, Todd Sines and Stephen Beaupre in the past. These two know exactly how to get the best out of the minimal electro crossover, able to wrench out some weighty grooves on 'MP3.EXE' and creating snaking synth lines on 'Who Killed Clippy?', with each track brimming with micro-detail as well as the necessary hooks to get a dancefloor working.
