Review: Behind The Mask is a brand new label from Lorenzo Aribone who sets out its sonic vision by taking care of the very first release. He uses it as an opportunity to show his range as he traverses the spectrum from techno to house and back again. 'Dfloor' is stiff industrial tech with bleeps and squeaks and metal hits. 'Mask Off' then brings some acid modulations and fizzing synth stabs that very much make for a futuristic tech house sound. He doesn't let up on the flip with 'I Show You' churning up ghoulish vocals and tough drum funk and last of all is 'Secret' which gets all punchy and tripped out and is just the sort of thing Craig Richards might play.

Review: More mysterious acid-fired fare on leading Dutch techno label Planet Rhythm. In keeping with its predecessor, released earlier this year, the 'Acid Blood' EP has no credited artist. Whoever is behind the EP has done a fine job though, with all four tracks offering an excitable, addictive blend of raw, loopy, hard-wired TB-303 riffs, bouncy techno beats and booming bass. There's plenty to set the pulse racing across the EP, from the genuinely mind-altering excellence of 'The Dream Book', which recalls the stretched-out wonder of Choice classic 'Acid Eiffel', and the layered, red raw insanity of opener 'Stickman', to the redlined insanity of 'Acid Blood' and industrial techno slammer 'Unmentionable'. Review: Vital and versatile techno label Planet Rhythm has another super dance floor adventure on its hands here with William Arist's My PH EP. It is a no-nonsense tackle from the off with 'Cloro' a blistering mix of sharp acid entangled with fizzing synth lines and pummelling drums. 'Acidificado' is even more intense, this time with banging drums falling off balance each time they land and wonky synths propping them up as best they can. The title track 'My PH' then strips things back to linear and dubbed out techno heaviness and icy hi-hats madness, all run through with molten acid. "I'm The Machine' is a video game techno frenzy with caustic, eye-watering texture.

Review: 'Finally In Orbit' is the cathartic new three-track EP from Aniara Records mainstay Arkajo. A technoized ode to the unobservable universe, our first listens to the project hear us plunged into an informative yet sinister lecture (presumably sampled from a Carl Sagan talk, given the title 'Sagan'), backed by quirky cosmic knocks and lower undulations - like infrasonic waves transmitted across the galaxy. Follow-uppers 'Mostly Harmless' and 'Finally I'm In Orbit' carry a similar mood of stoic wonder, with the latter in particular being the most textural and hypnotic.

Review: Aniara's white label number four delivers more techno goodness direct to the dance floor. The A-side features two of Arkajo's most compelling dance-floor tracks, with both offering a propulsive groove and warped and dubbed-out basslines. On the flip side, Dorisburg and Efraim Kent (who are here making their debut on Aniara) present the darker vibes of 'Data Smuggler' which rides on broken beats and has real menace in the airwaves. Following releases for Cultivated Electronics and Furthur Electronix, the Caged EP hits the ground running - with a record that spans heavy club-ready electro and futuristic soundscapes. Complete with a hefty remix from German acid connoisseurs Hardfloor.
'Caged' sucks us down the rabbit hole with dense textures fortified by an infectious groove, vast pads, and bubbling synth lines. The Hardfloor remix of 'Caged' submerges us into an acidic electro trip - fuelled by quirky melodic licks, a menacing low-end and body shaking drums.
On the flip side 'Curvature' is an out-and-out understated bomb. Review: Manchester's Robbie Mecrow is an acid and electro specialist who is therefore a perfect fit for the interplanetary sounds of Furthur Electronix. This marks his fourth EP on a fourth different label in three years, which might be a slow pace but the music is worth waiting for. There is roomy, IDM inspired atmosphere on 'Spatial Plucks' then more jungle leaning breaks and glistening metallic surfaces on 'Xsd'. The fantastic 'Reconbination' might just be the EP highlight however with its broad bass, twisted drum loops and forlorn sense of mood. 'Rev' (Stack Refix) is an airy, ambient laced closer that suspends you in a techno dreamscape.

Review: UK techno mainstay Kirk Degiorgio has made a lot of great music over the years, much of it under the machine soul/tech-jazz-inspired As One alias. His latest EP is another typically impeccable slab of Motor City inspired tech-soul brilliance. Lead cut 'The Unveiling' is deep, gently uplifting, gloriously spacey and effortlessly far-sighted, bringing bags of emotion as well as authentically crunchy machine drums, immersive pads and awe-inspiring melodies. He opts for an enveloping, otherworldly ambient techno/IDM sound on 'Descend Module', with discordant notes and hallucinatory acid lines riding high in the mix. The EP also boasts two reworks of previously released cuts. Ian O'Brien goes ultra-deep and gently breakbeat-driven on a superb revision of 'The Ladder', before Luke Slater drops a hypnotic, ultra-deep revision of 'Absorption Spectra' as The 7th Plain.

Review: Past Inside the Present's 'Pulse' series is an investigation into ambient tech and beat-driven ambient sounds. Who better for the job on this second edition than master craftsmen ASC and Joachim Spieth? ASC opens up with 'Tidal Disruption Event', an understated, underwater rhythm with jittery percussive patterns and bright shards of melodic light piercing through the mix as more coarse soundwaves break over the top. Spieth's 'Subtle' is just as artful and delicate a mix of persuasive rhythm and melodic beauty. A classy Nitechord remix closes out this fascinating EP.

Review: The seemingly ever-present underground stalwart that is Ellen Allien's Bpitch Control welcomes Berlin-based artist ASEC for a new EP that is inspired by "the indecision, the fear and the finality of making difficult choices. Heavy stuff for sure, and opener 'Crossing The Rubicon' sure is a dark and moody piece but also utterly danceable. The title track has a blunt, powerful kick and whirring machine percussion then 'Our Light In Momentary Troubles' gets a little more dubby, with fat bass and chunky drums. Last of all is 'Bleep Test (Tool Mix)' which is a brain-boggling and loopy techno cut with fizzing synth textures.

Review: Los Angeleno AshTreJinkins is up next for London/Tokyo joint venture NCS, who as some of you may know by now: only release in very limited runs: so get in quick! Named after the famed American soft drink that tastes like mouthwash, the Root Beer EP features four servings of lo-fi house which will certainly fit in with the status quo currently set by the likes of Lobster Theremin, E-Beamz et al. The tough and driving vintage techno of "Dead Or Wounded" kicks off the EP in good from, while "Frozen" with its hypnotic chord progression and jagged rhythm patterns create a unique groove that really gets off the grid. Finally, the tribal house tool "Adware Nigga" calls to mind Canadian Hayden Andre Brown's seminal jams from the early '90s, but backed by some L.I.E.S. style analogue techno grunt.

Review: Some of Europe's finest purveyors of underground sounds come together on this fourth rase from the One Eye Witness label out of the Netherlands. Asphalt DJ kicks off and lays out a steamroller of a techno banger in 'Blades' which is pulsing, hard hitting but supple. RDS gets for a much more minimal and cosmic vibe on the tight and bouncy 'TH Only' then Ste Roberts brings some machismo and texture to 'Tune Pitch Decay' with its industrial tech aesthetic. Tammo Hesselink closes down the EP with the loose and bendy tones, scattered hits and late night minimal eeriness of 'Untitled 42.'

Review: _asstnt & Roll Dann are back on the label they were last on two years ago with a new collaborative EP in the form of Emergency Break. This six tracker is packed with punishing sounds from the off with 'Old Gem' layering up fizzing synths and slamming drums. 'Emergency Area' has a Mills-style drum funk and molten deep space melody to it while 'Green Rhythms' is a dark, gritty and minimal loop-fest to melt the mind. Review: Detroit hardware jackers Ataxia return to Life & Death in the wake of their Out Of Step album from last year, and they're primed to reaffirm their dedication to heavyweight house and techno. The A side of this new record finds them teaming up with Mister Joshooa for two hot and heavy tracks - the sweaty, late night beatdown of 'Mastermind' and the pumping drum pressure of 'Doc Rickers'. 'Six Days, No Chuck' kicks off the flip with some deadly, funked up 90s rave touches while 'Keep My Youth' locks into a deeper roll with hip-hop flavoured cuts thrown in for good measure. 'Skatepark' has its own share of sample flair which adds street-level swagger to Ataxia's tough and true Detroit sound.

Review: First released on Perception Records in 1991, Atomix's debut single 'STK (Eternal)' offers a musical bridge between the electro-influenced bleep techno sound that emerged from autumn 1988 onwards and the later, breakbeat-driven hardcore rave sound. Here the track returns to vinyl for the first time since, with the producer's brilliant original mix coming accompanied by a previously unreleased slab of thumping techno-trance ('The Wonder of Science (Dangerous Lunatic)', with its fluttering, new age house style lead lines, deep ambient chords and pulsating, acid-flecked groove) and two fresh reworks of 'STK (Eternal)'. Hector Oaks dons the DJKAOS11 guise to deliver a distorted, industrial strength lo-fi techno re-make, while Hardrock Striker and Joe Lewandoswki join forces on a bleep-sporting take that pays tribute to the early days of Italian techno (think Lory D circa 1992).

Review: Ilian Tape have been sympathetic to the sound of UK bass for some time now, but this new drop from Atrice leans even further into the pervading energy of dubstep as a source of club pressure. The Swiss duo first appeared on Ilian Tape with Q back in 2021, and they're sounding stronger than ever on this latest missive. If 'Multiplex' brings a cybernetic sheen to headsy 140, then 'Is It Warm' does similar work with techy d&b as the pair dice up breakbeats with precision and drape exquisite, shimmering pads over the ruffness. There's also space for crafty techno propulsion on 'Broke' and high-tempo trippiness on '83 Steps', making this a versatile, consistently brilliant release from a rising force in the scene.

Review: Neapolitan producer Raffaele Attanasio pays homage to his homeland's rich musical hertiage with this mega-impressive techno-trance five-tracker. 'Quasar' is an expert project when it comes to breakdowns and buildups, with spitting synth stabs occupying the oft-minute long spaces between each drop and drum section. While the title track is the main melodic star, an acidic lichen begins to grow on the EP at about halfway in, rendering the whole thing darker and texturally juicier.

Review: Aubrey has always brought a detailed sense of sound design to his heavy techno. The Berlin-based artist does that again here on a first EP on his own Solid Groveos since 2016. Two tracks delve into his archives to come up with some rare and obscure jams from the 90s. One is 'Lose Yourself' - a bright and cosmic take on techno that prime-era Derrick May would be proud of then the other, 'Breaking Out', offers golden US-style house with nice frayed synths and smoky depths. Review: The Emotec label continues to build momentum with a fresh platter from Auto Sound City aka Weapons Of Desire. This outfit already has a firm fan base in the world of breakbeat, electro and techno and all of those sound worlds are drawn upon her for four deep but impactful tracks. 'Deep Hidden Meaning' has plunging bass and a jittery electro rhythm and 'Rock Steady' keeps up the rickety metal textures and physical rhythm work, all with cosmic melodic madness. The crushing electro sounds of 'Just Do It!' will jerk any dancefloor into life and 'Dance Of The Daggers' shuts down with more menacing mixes of bass, rhythm and astral melody.

Review: Mike McClure is the Minneapolis rave pioneer known as Autokinetic and he has been a key part of the live electronic since its earliest days. He has a cultured sound that saw him come up next to the likes of Freddy Fresh and DVS1 and now he satin on his own. His potent take on echo is laid bare here with 'Sidewinder' a real head twister with rubbery bass twisting and turning beneath full-fat drums. 'Didgeradont' has a melody that sounds as if made by an indigenous Australian instrument 'File003' then zones you out on sleek lines and frictionless drums that are minimal but impactful. 'Wakeword' shuts down with some nice acid wonk.
