  2. Abstract Division - "Dissonance" (6:18)
  3. Deepbass & Ness - "Les Planes" (6:30)
  4. Ben Buitendijk - "Vortex" (6:03)
Review: More dark, throbbing and unearthly antics from the Dynamic Reflection camp as they offer up a third collection of cuts from their expansive "Continuum" box set. Donato Dozzy and Mike Parker clearly got the memo, because their forthright opener "Patagotitan" is an alien club-jacker rich in razor-sharp, mind-altering electronics and hustling drum machine percussion. Abstract Division's "Dissonance" sounds like a dystopian, acid-fired tribute to Orbital's "Chime", while Deepbass and Ness' superb "Les Planes" is deep, atmospheric techno straight from the top drawer. As if that wasn't enough to get the juices flowing, Ben Buitendijk's "Vortex" is a perfectly pitched chunk of horror-techno hypnotism.

Cat: MOD 006. Rel: 16 Nov 18
  1. Beautiful Sadness
  2. External Guidance Suggested
  3. Ritual Serenade
  4. The Nature & The Metal
Review: Over the last decade, few have amassed as fine a catalogue of revivalist Italo-disco, EBM and synth-wave cuts than The Revolving Eyes. It's because of this that each new release from the Belgain duo is worth a listen. Predictably, there's plenty of dark and clandestine fodder to be found on The Nature And The Metal, their first release of 2018. Highlights include the foreboding horror chords, psychedelic acid lines and metronomic throb of "Beautiful Sadness", the rising orchestration and clicking drum machine hits of "Monotrance" and the ragged and distorted, acid-EBM fusion of the titanium-clad "Ritual Serenade". The title track, which closes the EP, is alo sublime: a clanking industrial workout smothered in far-sighted, futurist techno synths.

Review: Second time around for B12's superb sophomore set, the dystopian, sci-fi themed "Time Tourist". On its initial release in 1996, the album was marketed as a 22nd century "educational soundtrack" to the "primitive past" (I.E the late 20th century). It's a theme entirely in keeping with the original ethos of Detroit techno, and it's no surprise that the accompanying music offered a typically "Artificial Intelligence"-era slant on the Motor City sound, re-imagining the work of the Belleville three as a killer suite of ambient techno, intelligent techno and dreamy ambient cuts. This edition has been expanded by the addition of four previously unheard tracks that originally missed the cut, all of which are as breathtakingly good as those that did. In a word: essential.

Review: In accordance to the original concept of Polegroup founder Oscar Mulero, the latest volume in the label's ongoing Unknown Landscapes mix series offers up an "atmospheric and distinctive" journey through previously unheard music, this time mixed by label regular Lewis Fautzi. Beginning with the dark, intense and slowly creeping intensity of Christinne's "3562", Fautzi brilliantly joins the dots between clandestine, mind-altering dancefloor techno, buzzing rhythmic workouts, hypnotic psychedelic soundscapes, distorted drum jams, wild acid tracks and industrial strength body music, before concluding with arguably the most gripping and mind-altering cut of all: Adriana Lopez's pitch-black "In Mist".

Review: Sadly departed producer Susumu Yokota made and released some breathlessly brilliant music during his lifetime. Acid Mt Fuji, a 1994 album released in the earliest stages of his recording career, is one of the strongest examples. Here, it gets a first ever vinyl release, some 24 years after the CD edition started appearing in Japanese record stores. In typical fashion, the eleven tracks on offer brilliantly combine elements of ambient, creepy horror soundtracks, IDM and Hardfloor style hard acid with beats that veer from intense and full throttle, to skewed and experimental. It's testament to the album's timeless nature that it doesn't sound like it has aged one bit. In a word: essential.

  1. SE MKII (8:21)
  2. I (One) (5:50)
  3. Surd (8:35)
Review: Persophonic Sirens struck out in bold fashion in 2017, with an inaugural release by the label boss Ancient Methods, followed by Italian Sharplines aka Nathaniel, It is now over to mysterious newcomer Aoud, whose only previous outing thus far has been for Miami based digital imprint The Revera Corporation. It's a collection of seriously brooding and nefarious tracks here: from the euphoric adrenalizer that is "SEMKII" featuring tunnelling arpeggios reminiscent of Vitalic or The Hacker, the dystopian rave terror of "I One" and the slow burning EBM grind on "Surd". You can can rely on these three versatile sonic weapons for various environments.

  1. No Mercy (5:43)
  2. Cheaper (8:18)
  3. Point Reyes (8:35)
Review: We were blown away by Albeit Records' first release, a killer EP of previously unheard archive cuts from long serving machine abusers Activ-Analog. For release number two, the Bristol-based label has decided to flip the script, offering up a three-track salvo from up-and-coming producer Ismael Zouaoui. The Berlin artist goes straight for the jugular with "No Mercy", wrapping chilling melodies, booming sub-bass and drunken deep space chords around a kick-drum dominated rhythm track, before successfully breaking up the beats on the wonderfully deep-but-punchy "Cheaper". Arguably best of all, though, is B-side "Point Reyes", an impeccable exercise in intergalactic IDM that's blessed with some deliciously jazzy hybrid electro/broken techno beats.

Review: It's been two years since Thomas Berg's "Versions" stable initiated the Mystic Versions project, which delivers untitled chunks of cosmic techno goodness from un-credited artists. There's plenty to excite on this delayed second instalment, from the creepy, dub techno-in-the-rainforest flex of "Track 2" and wildly wonky, reggae-tinged heaviness of "Track 3", to the swirling, rising and falling melodies of dense dancefloor techno roller "Track 5" and the ambient techno style early morning psychedelia of "Track 7". Those hankering after some dense and intense peak-time techno should check out the ballsy drum assault that is "Track 6".

  1. Rubble (5:42)
  2. Earwig (5:16)
  3. Our Spirits Soar (7:06)
Review: In the lead up to the release of David Kennedy's first Pearson Sound 2018, much attention was focused on "Earwig", a sparse, slow and spooked, TB-303-laden cut that the man himself described as his, "first and probably last acid track". While it provides an intriguing diversion, it's also allows the EP's other two cuts to really shine. "Our Spirits Soar" is a deliciously sub-heavy, breakbeat-powered affair rich in warm, loved-up chords, trippy effects and fizzing, intergalactic electronics. It's pretty tasty, though nowhere near as weighty, intense and percussively punchy as "Rubble", the demolition-themed dancefloor destroyer that opens the EP.

  9. Nesida - On The Course Of Nymphs
Review: Some three years on from their sole 12" release, Italian twosome DT-90 finally return to action with a thoroughly atmospheric debut album on Space of Variants. In keeping with the label's suitably horizontal, head-in-the-clouds ethos, "Kone" offers an attractive, heady and pungent blend of manipulated field recordings, spaced-out electronics, dub-wise rhythms, mind-altering ambience and hypnotic, Deepchord style dub techno. Highlights are plentiful, from the head-nodding ambient dub skank of "Motion Fluid" and ambient techno/dub techno fusion of "COAS", to the drifting aural clouds and glimpse of audio sunshine that is "Gravity". "Northern Wood", an ultra-deep, reverberating meander through mid-tempo dub techno, is also inspiring.
