Drifter (5:40)
Tyrant (5:21)
Limbo (5:26)
Phantom (5:08)
Review: There is plenty to love about this new EP from Dimi Angelis. It's well-made, fad-free techno from the 90s school of thought but with all the requisite modern techniques making it even more standout. 'Drifter' is just perfectly loopy, with ticking hi-hats keeping time, bongo sounds tumbling over themselves and the thudding kicks locking you in. 'Tyrant' ups the pace with frantic percussive loops and nice raw hi-hats peering another hunched-over and punchy low end while 'Limbo' is defined by its loose, whirring synth motif up top and tuning sounds that bring some dynamism to the rigid rhythm. 'Phantom' follows a similarly freaky path and will get massive reactions.

Review: To coincide with the twenty-fifth anniversary of Berlin club Tresor, Juan Atkins and Moritz Von Oswald have released a second Borderland album together. It begins in ominous mode, with the title track's brooding bass tones casting a long, dark shadow, but the pair soon find a way to break away from the gloom with the mesmerising chords and heavy rhythm of "Lightyears" and the wonderfully spacey Detroit techno of "Riod". Both "Odyssey" and "Merkur" push the tempo back down but keep an emphasis on hypnotic, woozy textures, snappy drums and jazzy tones, while "2600" shows that Van Oswald hasn't lost his ability to craft dub-heavy, dreamy techno.

Review: Album number six from Sheffield's electronic heroes The Black Dog was closer to their debut, Bytes, than anything that came in between. "We never set out to make it like Bytes," group member Martin Dust has since explained. "My idea was to create something you could come home to after you'd just ben to a club or gig, that would start at the right pace and then just wind down into a great album and just chill out." Suffice to say, they achieved that and then some. Silenced is an example of downtempo that still feels like it has one foot in the rave, sounds informed by 4AM highs and 10AM quiet, here made precious through the use of blissful and complex tones that envelop and encase your mind. A record everyone should own.

Frantic Formula (7:37)
Outrun (5:56)
Covert Action (7:12)
Review: Falko Brocksieper is a cult German minimalist who was favoured by the likes of Craig Richards and his Tyrant project. This new EP from 20/20 Vision takes a deep dive into his back catalogue to unearth a gem that first arrived via Treibstoff Recordings almost 20 years ago in 2006. 'Frantic Formula' is a nice liquid cut with wispy sci-fi pads and rolling grooves for early evening warm-ups, while 'Outrun' gets more upright with its jumbled drum loops and gurgling bass. 'Covert Action' is another masterfully languid and elastic rhythm that layers up cowbells, wobbly low ends and silky loops that soon lock you into the groove. A welcome remaster and reissue for sure.

Focal Zone (Oscar Mulero remix) (5:50)
Review: Claudio PRC is something of a techno legend who has already very much assured his own legacy, but he keeps on coming up with the goods each and every time he steps out. This time that is on the Warm Up label with a stylish and deep EP of classy techno. 'Elliptic' is a sparse and dubby roller with icy pads, 'Focal Zone' then picks up with a more busy percussive line that pans about the mix and comes in and out of focus over rolling beats. 'Axial' is another delightfully deft deep techno cut with only there most scant and wispy synths joining the rolling beats. An Oscar Mulero remix rounds out with more intensity.

Do I Stay (4:40)
Let The Devil In (4:40)
Review: Cressida goes in hard on this new EP, The Flying Dagger, with a melange of inspirations all getting chucked into her machines and assault-ready techno coming out the other side. 'Cat's Claw' is percussive, broken blasted with frazzled synths and pure dancefloor weaponry. 'Radiate' is utterly different - a stripped-back sound with pumping kick drums and searching synths grow up through the mix in a paranoid fashion. 'Medusa' is a metallic clatter of hits and drums with a funky pattern emerging from below and 'Do I Stay' is then a dubby, quickened and hypnotic cut before 'Let The Devil In' is glitchy broken techno with a sense of dread in the air.

Review: 'Ascension' is the dramatic new techno EP from Riccardo De Polo, and a worthy addition to the discog born of Frankfurt's Cocoon Recordings crew. Though just three contrasting suites of airlocked and airborne ambiences come kick-pummellings, 'Ascension' bedazzles with its ability to evoke the theme of space exploration despite not ever uttering a word. Opener 'Ascension' is a fine exposition of alien smoke-outs and ambient bursts of gas, while follow-ups 'Wahnstimmung' and 'Inception' are the more danceable meats on the bone; cortical jams for intelligent exo-lifeforms.

Filter (Body mix) (5:00)

Drone (6:24)
Bourg (5:45)
Review: "Drone Destructing Body Slams" says Ilian Tape of their next genre-defying offering, this time from the long-time Swiss underground mainstay that is Deetron. More normally known for this smooth and seductive deep house and techno sounds, here he presents Soulmate which is about much more edgy and textural techno stompers. 'Filter' comes as two mixes. The Body Mix is a turbocharged cut with dense layers of grime, synth and percussion and powered by some Shed-style piano stabs. The Broken mix cuts looser and has broken beats down low while 'Drone' gets the head up with its brighter synths swirls up top. The loopy, rusty low end is no less physical however then 'Bourg' brings some celebratory energy with its light chords and rousing sense of joy throughout.

Oasis 4
Review: Dettinger's Oasis, originally released in 2000, is an ethereal symphony of ambient textures and minimal techno. Its unique blend of orchestral elements, effects, and occasional beats creates a captivating and strangely peaceful sonic landscape. Each track offers a hypnotic journey. 'Oasis #2' pulsates with a gentle rhythm, while 'Oasis #3' transforms Balearic melodies into grainy memories. 'Oasis #4' showcases Dettinger's experimental side, merging techno with abstract soundscapes, while 'Oasis 6' infuses dub influences, adding a touch of warmth and groove. The album's appeal lies in his ability to fuse the organic and the electronic. Orchestral swells soar above pulsating synths, creating a sense of drama and allure. The result is a sonic oasis that transports listeners to a realm of serenity and wonder. Fans of Wolfgang's Voigt's Gas project or labels like Mille Plateaux, Staubold, RasterNoton and others may already know this masterpiece, but if you don't, then do not miss this.

Review: More funk for your trunk! Brussels most provocative player DJ Elephant Power stampedes back into the mix with more subversive, fully uncategorisable gold. Pick a genre, any genre and we guarantee you won't be thinking of what's here as we gently melt from the nifty ravey breaks the opening title track to the sleepy, woozy tension of the finale cut 'Infinity'. In between we have bumping bewitching house ('I Got You') and strange slow-mo electro ('Shades'). Thinking of sleeping on this? Tusk tusk tusk on you.

If The Glove Fits (4:23)
Burndown (3:53)
Review: ...wear it. Words and sounds to live by from Livity Sounds' DJ Polo, who lays down four new ones for the esteemed Bristol dance label. Echoing labelmate Ploy's latest output and verging on the tupletting sounds of broken beat and batida, we'd wager lead track 'If The Glove Fits' is a coded nod to the similarly named Hackney nightclub; opener 'Bloodhound', meanwhile, veers towards gqom with its underground pounds and breathy 'haah's. 'Burndown' gets chuggier and less merciful with things and is probably the peaktime tune of the bunch.

Review: Dubfire's remix album EVOLV offers a visionary exploration into his sonic universe, inviting an impressive lineup of artists to reinterpret tracks from his debut album released on SCI+TEC. This dance single highlights two of the remixes for this dance club ready 12". Decka delivers a potent remix of 'Dust & Gas' by Dubfire, infusing it with pulsating energy and intricate rhythms that captivate the listener. The track's dynamic progression and atmospheric elements create a compelling sonic journey, showcasing Decka's skillful production and creativity. DEAS puts a bold spin on Deadbug,' injecting it with big EDM sounds that ignite the dancefloor. With powerful beats and infectious melodies, this remix elevates the original track to new heights, delivering an electrifying experience that leaves a lasting impression. Together, you have a lethal dose of festival aimed EDM music.

Review: The industrially minded Still Distant Records is based between Glasgow and Copenhagen and Ethan Fawkes is next up to take the baton. He brings some heavy, stomping EBM vibes to this 12" with his one original track. 'Dancefloor EBM.' It's brutal, raw, and distorted with police sirens lighting it up and dark vocals adding extra menace. The Adriano Canzian is even more caustic, Delectro brings some fierce techno drums to the undercarriage and the Paulitical is another turbocharged stompathon.

Fear-E - "7.4 On The Richter" (5:19)
Jerome Hill - "The Shoffler" (4:32)
Review: Fear E and Jerome Hill really go for the jugular here. Not only are these techno cuts hard and heavy, but they're defined by raw, sizzling textures that rip into your ear drums. Acid and freaky house menace are also drawn up on here with Jerome Hill's opener 'Stealth Imp' a mega rusty and caustic stomper, Fear-E's 'Principles' layering up sleazy synth scuzz and rickety, ramshackle drums, then his '0.4 On The Richter' burrows deep into your brain with squealing synths. Jerome Hill sloshes down with the wire synth modulations and jacked drums of 'The Shoffler.'

Federsen - "Polarity" (Hidden Sequence remix) (6:31)
Review: New label Alt Dub debuts with this drop from Federsen and Hidden Sequence, who operate in different formations across the four tracks to spell out some supremely reduced, subliminal minimal techno. Their sound is schooled in the dub abstractions from labels like Background and ~scape, a little warm but ultimately reduced to an elegant murmur which becomes profound the harder you listen. Hidden Sequence's 'Switch' has a steady-ticking thrust while Federsen's 'Polarity' splashes around in deep chasms of delay and reverb, before they switch stance to remix each other in complementary ways.

Review: Floid is back with a second release on Omen Wapta that finds the Delft-based artist mixing up fresh sound designs with potent rhythms that are everything you could wish for - immersive, cinematic, and danceable. 'Opanzi' begins with brilliant hypnotic, stripped back and lurching rhythms marbled with aline sounds and underpinned by driving bass. From there the likes of 'Dufus' twist and contort drums and synths into a tightly woven and mind-melting tapestry and the otherworldly, shamanic feel continues with the urgent throb of 'Zoona', percolating underworld menace of 'Skudd' and high-pressure drum funk of 'Bondo'. A truly unique EP.

Review: Daniel Stefanik and Andre Galluzzi team up for four new, lost-highwayed night-drives in techno form. Debuting for Gregor Tresher's Frankfurt label Break New Soil, the likes of 'Passages' and 'Don't Panic' lay down both fertile techno grounds and noxious synthetic fogs, adding up to a compellingly bleak picture of the many motorways that encircle the German city. 'Out Of The Past' and its remix from Pan-Pot are its highlights; these are two uplifting tech-trance versions that satisfy the moods of both ill-advised partying and ring-road hurtling.

Review: Magic Ritmo is back with another brilliantly cultured release, this time a reissue of a 1990 gem that has long been shorted in mystery. You honestly would be hard pushed to know this was from all the way back then and now right now such is the richness of the sound design and the freshness of the rhythms. G.F.X. is an alias of Geoff Waterston, a producer and engineer from Whitley Bay on the North East English coast who spent his youth messing with electronics. Here he mixes up techno, dub, IDM and plenty more into a cosmic exploration with alien vocals and brilliantly synth craft. This is a cult record amongst those who know and rightly so.

Review: Hardspace is an alias of Len Faki, the renowned techno player and longtime Berghain associate. During Covid he reconnected with his studio and really got to grips with it on all new levels and that shows in the work he has put out since. This project is about adding his own spin to his favourite tunes, tweaking them for his own DJ sets and making older cuts sound right and function well on modern dancefloors. From the loop, thudding house of his take on Sound Stream to stripped back 90s techno sounds from Andrei Morant via the brain frying synth texture and unrelenting grooves of DJ Rush's 'Don't You Love Me,' this is a fine collection for any DJ.

Review: IO E Palmieri has cooked up the sort of anthemic and festival-friendly techno tune that will be heard all over the world as soon as the sun comes out and the big tops get erected. It has simple but effective rolling beats, some neat and rising melodies and a celestial Italian vocal that will get hands in the air as people march along. Naples-based techno star Debora De Luca then steps up to remix and quickens the groove and tightens up the synths so that are a bit more forceful. It's another effective cut from this big-time circuit favourite.

Boheme - "Spiral" (6:42)
Review: White Scar's goal is to release EPs that feature a club ready track from four various artists on each. On the first side, Jucid's 'Essential To Our Life' is a futuristic and energetic synth heavy techno track that is sure to keep the crowd pumped up. Zuul's 'Are You Neutralised?' adds a bit of mysteriousness and drama to this sci-fi novel soundtrack. For the second side, Desiree Falessi's 'Electro Samurai' offers a dramatic 80s tinged techno sound complete with the perfect amount of tech while Boheme's 'Spiral' wraps up the EP with another science fiction track that adds some fun to the sound. Overall, four superb examples of retro sounding techno with a bit of a trance and electro feel within.

Review: The DEXT label serves up a firing Limited Compilation here for its fifth outing and it calls upon several serious bass heads for the beats. K-65's 'Heavyweight' is brilliantly energetic and lithe, with lurching loops and slamming hits, ten bass and twisted vocal stabs. Krotone's 'Mashdown' is a frenzied breakbeat workout with jungle signifiers and trippy melodies, then Local Group's 'Water Dub' slows things down a touch with oscillating low ends and fresh hits all underpinned by dubbed-out bass. Dawn Razor's 'Autopods' shuts down with controlled chaos - the bouncing drums, the rattling hits, the metallic textures and the pinging leads that all make you move every bone in your body.

Review: New to Mr. Banger Records comes the latest four-tracker from Ukrainian producer Roma Khropko. Kicking the year off with a bang after a whopping four EPs released in 2023, 'Time Frame' slows down time at the critical moment of now, in which a breather is perhaps most needed. Khropko's take on house and techno is organ-ic, hypnotic and sparse, preferring the interplay of different percussion, acid and FM synth parts. Terry F tribute 'Roll To Life' is the moment the EP finds its feet, drawing on thick gabber-esque kicks and muted pads-n-bloops, to counterpose the janky saws of 'She's Coming' to follow. Closer 'Rendal' flaunts the breadth of Khropko's palette with a chugging closing rabbit hole plunge.

Now it's the turn of Klangkollektor, indulging a collection of hazy dub excursions which sit somewhere near Balearic splendour, piano-charged melancholy and isolation tank meditation. In the dub tradition the approach is consistent and evenly paced, but it's certainly not aiming for any kind of typical Jamaican sound. Instead, there's a gentle introspection to the melodic content which gels perfectly with the spacious approach to mixing, unfurling across four sides of wax for an album you can just melt into.

Review: Los Angeles based industrial, EBM and synth producer Kontravoid is garnering a strong following due to his talented blend of darker electronics and the Toronto-based electronic label Artoffact Records is the perfect imprint to pick up the burgeoning artist. Detachment is the third full length album from Kontravoid, with the first view of it coming in the form of 'For What It Is', a powerful, anthemic and driving track featuring cues from techno and industrial equally, Kontravoid makes tracks that supersede any subgenres being more compared to groundbreaking 80s acts like Nitzer Ebb or Neon Judgement.

Vamp Love (6:07)
Review: Lanzieri's latest release, Profecia, embarks on a journey through the realms of early 90s-influenced techno, showcasing a diverse array of sounds and atmospheres. On Side-1 'Profecia' harkens back to the early days of rave with its nostalgic techno vibe, invoking the spirit of the culture with its pulsating beats and infectious energy. Following suit, 'Nocturna' transports listeners into space with its ethereal soundscape, weaving together spooky elements that beckon to the dancefloor. Flipping to Side 2, 'Fetiche' dives into the depths of heavy acid sounds, creating a trancey atmosphere that is both eerie and sci-fi inspired. The track has a relentless hypnotic rhythm and otherworldly ambiance, drawing listeners into its sonic abyss. Closing the EP, 'Vamp Love' offers a journey into the unknown with its out-of-this-world sounds, pushing the boundaries of techno with its innovative approach. Overall, another strong techno release for this French label.

Review: Legowelt is a master of electronic music. He coaxes more feelings and emotions and originality out of his machines in one record than many people manage in a whole career. He has made millions (probably) of them in his time but it is still always worth checking in with what he does next. In this case, it's a new album for New York punks L.I.E.S. called Like A Song From Your Dream which comes with one of his own cover art illustrations. Musically it finds him in electro mode, layering up squelchy synths, kinetic and ice-cold rhythms and plenty of sci-fi motifs with inescapable cosmic energy. It is yet another doozy from the man who never misses.

Review: Is there anyone out there more profile that Legowelt? The Dutch wonder producer has got almost as many aliases as there are days of the year and nearly as many releases out in the world as there are grains of sand on a beach. And importantly they are all excellent, as is this new one which finds him turning on his machines and cooking up fine fusion of electro and techno that head off to the edges out our known universe. Colourful, characterful and potent for DJs and dancers, this is another essential 12" from the indefatigable synth king, not least because of the great track titles.

Review: Danza Nativa has done a great job of establishing its own unique sound in the techno sphere over the last half a decade. Now it marks the occasion of its fifth birthday with a two-part compilation that showcases its avant-garde take on the genre. They tell us that part one has been assembled as a sort of "mental (as in pensive, not deranged) techno album that takes the form of some direct tools for working DJs. Anthony Linell, Claudio PRC, Luigi Tozzi and Daniel[I] are those who step up and explore abstract, drone, deep and plenty in between.

Review: Lurka is back on his own label Damage which is a place for harder-edged sounds and here includes remixes from Ossia. The one original, 'Red', is a thrilling rhythmic workout with a skeletal kick drum pattern that is broken and loopy, and deft percussion layered in over the top next to wet synths and undulating bass. Ossia's first rework spins it out into a more distorted and manic cut fizzing with static electricity while the second is slightly more paired back but no less menacing. This one has been mastered at Scape in Berlin and is mad limited to just 100 copies so do not wait around.

Review: ESP Institute revisits Metal's Dislocation Climb here with a special series of remixes that bring an all-new perspective to the originals. Hodge goes first and brings his signature sense of rhythmic invention to 'Point Vacancies' as he layers in rueful chords over prickly beats. 'Dislocation Climb' then gets three different re-rubs from Jamie Paton - the first is a snaking dub with dynamic drums, and the next two then sink even further into pillowy drums and dubbed out low ends with deft synth lines weaving and out of the drums.
