Yossi Amoyal Presents Fluere IV
  1. A1 People - "Do It" (Metamatics remix)
  2. Kosmogonik - "Circuitry"
  3. Silicon Scally - "Relay"
  4. Matt Chester - "November Pathways"
  5. CiM - "Recursive"
Review: Since Zip and Villalobos made it one of their coveted deep digs to be heard pealing out of a thousand after hours sessions, the Metamatics remix of A1 People has been a teasingly out of reach dream grab for many a minimal electro head. Now Yossi Amoyal has done the good deed of getting the track remastered and repressed as part of his Fluere series toasting 15 years of Sushitech. As well as that masterclass of elegant machine funk, there's also Kosmogonik's mind-bendingly brilliant 'Circuitry', Silicon Scally's body-popping electro-noir 'Relay' and Matt Chester's melancholic 'November Pathways' to keep your up-all-night marathon sets peppered with spangled surprises.

  1. Assassin's Walk (5:40)
  2. Topaz (6:10)
  3. Venom (6:20)
  4. Light Enchantment (6:50)
Review: Since joining Amelie Lens' Lenske label last year, Dario Brkic AKA AIROD has delivered two EPs of typically tough, rave-ready workouts. He continues in a similar vein on this bombastic third 12" for the label, doffing a cap to Richard Hawtin and Hardfloor's 1990s acid-techno explorations on psychedelic opener 'Assassin's Walk', before delivering an even heavier and more ballsy slab of warehouse-ready techno on the blistering 'Topaz'. Over on the flip, title track 'Venom' sees Brkic add raw, trance-inspired synth motifs to a ten-ton techno beat, while 'Light Enchantment' fixes gently uplifting melodies and dreamy chords to the thrusting, stomping intensity of his trademark techno sound.

Review: If you've ever wondered where Italy's obsession with dark, moody, industrial-tinged techno comes from, look no further than this freshly reissued 1991 EP from Leo Anibaldi. Of the six tracks, it's the EP-opening title track that remains the most potent and historic cut, with its blend of hard acid and metallic percussion hits helping to define the Roman style of industrial techno that was further developed and refined by his friend Lory D. That said, there are plenty of treats elsewhere across the EP, from the raw rave stabs and druggy drums of 'Rhythm', and the twisted, breakbeat-driven insanity of 'Bassbar', to the Larry Heard style deep house of 'Universal' and the bleeping, acid-fired brilliance of 'Odissey March'.

  1. Metro Area (7:06)
  2. Liquid Love (4:51)
  3. Action & Reaction (6:59)
  4. CTFF (5:25)
Review: Back in January Carrado Viggiano and Gabriele Ruggiero returned to action as Asymptote for the first time in two years, via a blistering EP of rugged, acid-fired techno stompers on Surburban Avenue. There's a similarly robust, no-nonsense feel about this follow-up for the same label, which lands exactly 11 months after its predecessor. They begin by peppering jacking, industrial strength techno drums with raw stabs and mind-altering acid lines on 'Metro Area', before opting for drums, drums and more drums on heavy industrial techno slammer 'Liquid Love'. Over on the reverse side, 'Action & Reaction' is a buzzing, hold-and-release audio assault, while 'CTFF' is a dark, twisted and deliciously funky slab of warehouse-ready acid techno.

  1. Ginger Biscuit (4:52)
  2. Long Player (8:13)
  3. Shimmer (6:37)
  4. U Be Dick (6:24)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Aubrey's status as a pillar of underground UK techno comes into focus with this reissue of a 1995 classic from the Solid Groove archives. 'Ginger Biscuit' is a riotous party starter, riding a funked up loop and feverish percussion to make for techno perfection. 'Long Player' is a trippier affair awash with heavy reverb, pads and submerged acid bleeps. 'Shimmer' goes even further out with some shimmering dub techno chords riding elongated filter sweeps for pure eyes closed transcendence. 'U Be Dick' seals the deal with a micro-dub excursion that nudges towards house territory with soaring synth strings to boot. Seminal stuff.

Jazz Carnival: Space Jazz mix (Global Communication remix) (remastered)
Cat: JD 047. Rel: 10 Dec 20
  1. Jazz Carnival (LP mix) (8:59)
  2. Jazz Carnival (Space Jazz mix - Global Communication remix) (11:15)
Review: We hear on the grapevine that there could be some seriously desirable Global Communication vinyl reissues on the way in 2020. To tide us over until then, Far Out has decided to reissue one of the legendary West Country duo's most celebrated and sought-after remixes: their 1996 "Space Jazz" remix of Azymuth classic "Jazz Carnival". Pritchard and Middleton's version is a spacey deep house epic of intergalactic proportions, with subtle elements of the Brazilian band's loose and languid '90s re-recording of the track (the B-side "LP Mix") weaving in and out of a warm, rich and hypnotic groove. It's one of the most dancefloor-friendly of all Global Communication remixes - many were straight ambient or downtempo rubs - but also one of Mark Pritchard and Tom Middleton's finest.

  3. Trains (Olliver Deutschmann remix) (5:17)
Review: Break New Soil reaches the not insignificant milestone of release number 70 with a new EP from Carl Bee and a couple of heavyweight remixers. He is a long time friend of the label boss so this is a natural coming together that results in some electric big room melodic techno from the Maltese man. First off is 'Trains', a scintillating cut riding on a slick groove and made all the more dramatic thanks to the drum fills, sweeping synths and tense melodic riffs. The Raw Mix is more stripped back for late night zone outs and Olliver Deutschmann then goes deeper for his remix.

Review:
One of the Motor City's hardest working producers is back! 7 Days Entertainment chief Big Strick presents Paper Chase, a four track EP featuring the sort of emotive, real proper deep house jams you have come to know and love from the man. From the glassy-eyed and bittersweet inner city soul of 'Detroit Domino', to the introspective 'Still Hustlin' and its rich tapestry of twisted analogue synth textures, and ending with what was undoubtedly the most surprising addition to the EP in the form of 'Deep Don't Die' - a droning and mentalist techno journey that would make even Mike Parker stand up and notice.

  1. Beat Box (7:01)
  2. Beat Box (Revolutionary mix) (7:08)
  3. Ich Liebe Dich (7:57)
Review: After a long delay due to the closing of their pressing plant and the mastering studio due to COVID -19, Crisp finally gets this one out. 'Beat Box' is perfectly stripped back techno that does a lot with a little. A wobbling synth line brings the character to the flat footed drums. Glitchy effects and water droplets are the only other real accompaniment but still you will dance. The Revolutionary mix is a little more elastic. Vocals bring some attitude and slapping hits drive it along. On the flip, the strobe lit 'Ich Liebe Dich' is a playful, rhythmic, broken up tune to get a late night crowd screaming for more.

  6. My Computer (4:15)
Review: The latest 12" on the matter of factly named Detroit techno label comes from the boss Mollison Folson aka Body Mechanic. Opener 'Ghetto Tek' is a minimal techno tick with a rugged rhythm and cold sound design. The Beatprocessor Repimp rework flips it into a more punchy electro jam with sleaze and streetwise swagger and 'MIBA' then plays with bendy bass and bare house kicks. There is real future cyborg funk on the restless 'Relay' which has beautifully programmed kicks and hits. 'The Masters' and 'My Computer' are two squelchy, mechanical electro bangers you'd only get from Detroit.

  1. True Belief (8:03)
  2. Deliverance (8:44)
  3. Avec (4:54)
Review: Porter v Brook was a classic welterweight boxing match up in 2014, and Porter Brook the producer brings a sound that is just as powerful and action packed as was that world title fight. This Groundwork release is the second on the label and is techno workout of the highest order. 'True Belief' is an eerie broken beat with misty sound design and grainy synths, then 'Deliverance' again locks you in a mystic world of churning synths, lo-fi textures and cavernous grooves. Closer 'Avec' is the sound of a warehouse in decay, a post-apocalyptic landscape once all human life has left and the machines are starting to take over.

Two Minutes To Midnight EP
Cat: PARTOUT 602. Rel: 14 Dec 20
  1. Fata Morgana (5:21)
  2. Hidden Key (5:40)
  3. Two Minutes To Midnight (6:44)
  4. Elephant's Toothpaste (5:46)
Review: The Partout label turns its attention back to its UK series with a fine four tracker here from Bufo Bufo. The whole thing is steeped in UK sounds with elements of rave never far away. 'Fata Morgana' has a dumpy beat that swings from one foot to the other while old school stabs light up the track from above. 'Hidden Key' ups the ante with a more hard hitting groove and more old school motifs, this time in the bass. 'Two Minutes To Midnight' is the waviest of the lot with sirens going off, rinsing breakbeats and turbo charged bass going deep. 'Elephant's Toothpaste' then cut up a more lumpy groove with bleeps and pulses making it a soothing groove for 5am.

Design Of The Body Sublime
Cat: SUNONYRLEGS. Rel: 16 Dec 20
  1. Design Of A Body Sublime (feat Fox) (6:08)
  2. Design Of An Eye Sublime (feat Fox) (5:52)
  3. Design Of A Lost Sublime (8:07)
Review: Given that both Call Super and Parris have fine track records and have successfully developed their own unique, off-kilter trademarks sounds, you'd expect this first collaborative EP to not only be very good, but also sidestep rhythmic and stylistic conventions. The suite of tracks certainly ticks those boxes, with opener 'Design of a Body Sublime', the first of two tracks featuring vocalist Fox, somehow managing to brilliant fuse elements of broken techno, vintage US garage, Afro-house and UK bass. The track's New Jersey garage influences come further to the fore on the similarly rhythmically off-kilter 'Design of an Eye Sublime', while closing cut 'Design of a Lost Sublime' is a more glitchy, tech-house influenced number rich in curious instrumental samples, 4/4 techno drums and wayward electronic sounds.

  6. Yu Su - "Brittney" (live mix) (8:27)
  7. Adam Pits - "Wind Tunnel" (5:07)
  8. DJ Sports - "Needs Dub" (4:11)
Review: Needs' commendable charity drive continues to bring forth the goods, both in terms of good causes and world class club music. Rallying round in support of World Mental Health Day 2020, Shanti Celeste kicks the record off in style with the rapid fire, deep-diving workout 'Fantasma'. OCB keeps the pressure up with the psychotropic techno of 'RS3', while Michelle works up some delightfully freaky synths on playful jacker 'Aesthetic'. Bobby's 'Free Your Mind' is a 90s-tinged, full fat techno production indebted to Detroit, Peder Mannerfelt keeps things stripped and raw on 'Our Levels' and Yu Su weaves a beautiful tapestry of interweaving rhythms on 'Brittney'. Adam Pits' trippy techno sounds resplendent on 'Wind Tunnel' and DJ Sports completes the set with the inventive, dembow slanted funk of 'Needs Dub'.

Yossi Amoyal Presents Fluere II
  1. Jin Choi - "High Quality Schal" (Baby Ford remix)
  2. Sten - "Circles"
  3. Mark Broom - "Gira"
  4. Edward - "Sender"
Review: The second instalment in Yossi Amoyal's Fluere compilation run brings further leftfield house and techno delights into one place, in honour of Sushitech's 15th anniversary. First up on this 12" is Baby Ford's impeccable remix of Jin Choi, which adds extra layers of drama to Ford's trademark minimal clicks and pops. Sten's 'Circles' is a pristine, dubby tech house workout, while Mark Broom's 'Gira' sounds all the better for a modern remaster 25 years after its original release. Edward's 'Sender' finishes the record off on a nervy, unsettled note where lingering off-key tones hover over a dense and twitchy minimal beat.

Review:
All We Have is Now is a Bristol-based label launched earlier this year by Will Clarke, having made big waves already via three successful singles and a collaboration with US house legend Marc Kinchen. Said singles are all included here on this special 12' vinyl sampler, with the tracks being quite a departure from the cheeky, bouncy and bass-driven tracks he first made his name with. From the powerful and uplifting Stateside house sound of 'U Take Me Higher', or the stomping heads-down basement jam 'Hallelujah' through to the roaring peak time banger 'Lord' with a ripping Reese bassline, steely rhythms and gospel vocals in the vein of Robert Hood's Floorplan project.

Review: Michael Diekmann is half of Morphology and here he assumes his CRC alias for a cross-genre workout on Further Electronix. 'Downstairs' is first up, and it rewires techno with cosmic electro synth lines, neo-IDM sound design and booming drums all run through with some prickly acid. What's not to love? 'Tesseract' is another kinetic cut, this time on scattered broken beats that make you want to disconnect all your limbs and get involved. Completing a small but perfectly formed EP is 'March 3', a dream-inducing ambient tech cut that drifts off into the cosmos and takes you with it. Lovely stuff.

Review: A staple of Simon Hi-Shock's Gynoid Audio and Darknet labels, Italian DJ/producer Giuseppe Scaccia (aka D Leria) now makes his debut on Avian with Still Standing, an extended EP of cerebral techno experiments. The Affekt Club resident nails that 'Sound Of Rome' quite well on the droning tunnel vision of 'Divergences' and the particularly mental 'Noises From The Room' which start off the A side in fine form. On the flip, Scaccia channels the early noughties sounds of percussive techno in the vein of Ben Sims and Oliver Ho on the fittingly titled 'Tribalism' and then closes it out with the introspective IDM of 'Il Giardino Degli Unicorni'.

  3. I.3 (5:59)
  4. I.4 (6:20)
Review: Lowless welcomes Belgian-Italian producer Daniel[i] back for another accomplished excursion into the hinterland between ambient and techno. The rhythms come through pronounced and tanginle across the productions on Ileus, but they're arranged in broken formations rather than anything too concerned about the dancefloor. Instead, this is music to meditate on, not least the shimmering majesty of '1.2' with its Friedman-inspired cyclical percussion mantras. There are sharper edges to the likes of '1.3', but never at the expense of the psychotropic atmospheres that make this such a standout record. Inventive techno that should appeal to fans of Valentino Mora and the Spazio crew.

  3. Jonski - "Venusian Surface" (6:23)
  4. DJ Guy - "Aphelion Orbit" (5:56)
Review: The fourth multi-artist EP from blog-turned-record label Innate takes the imprint's inherently warm and far-sighted sound into new intergalactic directions. Offering a quartet of cuts from established producers and rising stars, all inspired by dreams of cross-cosmic travel and the alluring weightlessness of deep space. 004 explores the love of stargazing electronics in much greater deapth.

The A-side is all about melodious and spacey electro with Dutch legend Aroy Dee making a rare appearance away from his acclaimed M>O>S Recordings label. "Leegte" A1 is impressively immersive, cloaking a jaunty bassline and lo-fi beats in sumptuous aural textures and glassy-eyed chords. Accompanied by Innate label regular Gilbert, "Furthest Planet" A2 is a deep roller whose lilting lead lines, shimmering electronics and tumbling acid lines are little less than life-affirming.

On side B, the sound subtly shifts towards the multi-coloured, sci-fi shimmer of techno. Newcomer Jonski, (aka Bristol electro producer Zobol) drops "Venusian Surface" B1 - a classic interstellar jam full of vivid chords, echoing synth squiggles and alluring leads that rise above a classic tech-funk bassline. Last but not least, effervescent Welshman DJ Guy (Unthank/Other World Music) slams down an energetic techno stomper in "Aphelion Orbit": boasting brilliantly breathless drum programming, illuminated by the celestial shimmer of accompanying chords. A perfect conclusion to Innate's most action-packed release to date.

Review: Swiss techno mainstay Deetron is much older than he looks, and a much finer producer than he often gets credit for. He speaks freely though his machines to cook up techno as pure as the snow of his homeland, as airy as the mountains around him. This Ego Rave EP on Gerd Janson's Running Back offers five hugely effective and stylish DJ tools that cover techno on 'A', and happy piano house on 'B'. 'C' throws it back, with synth funk and house colliding nicely and 'D' unhinges itself and gets lost in big chord vamps. 'D1' is pure peak time fire.

Review: The Mysticisms label continues to explore trippy corners of 4/4 club music where the jack of old meets the broader horizons of the modern age in superlative fashion. DJ Hedonist appears to be a new name on the scene, but they step out best foot forward with the bleep-tinted jacker '#1'. '#2' gets into a grainy, lo-fi house mood thanks to some seriously scuffed drums and a gnarly chord, while '#7' heads into electro-techno territory with nagging programming and a peppy tempo carrying some delightfully alien sonics pitched at the freakier end of the floor. '#6' completes the set with a bass-tilted workout for those who like their parties ghoulish and grungy.

  3. Fashion - "Blown" (feat Eggman & DJ Spence) (4:47)
Review: It's an utterly heads down, eyes forward affair that kicks off the new Doo EP. Doctors Pepper is a superb collaborative project, and they craft a perfectly distilled minimal techno groove so deep it almost disappears out of sight. Fashion then steps up with 'U Mind', which is just as barely-there, but with a more eerie lead and icy pads. It's heady tackle to get you in a trance. Last of all, Fashion enlists Eggman & DJ Spence to feature on 'Blown', which is a creeping, stuttering bass tune with cavernous beats and late night mischief in the impish synth spirits.
