  3. Dehaveland (VC-118A remix) (6:07)
  4. Don't Talk To Me (6:14)
Review: Los Angeles based acid freaks Absurd return with another chapter in their Acid Test series. For their 13th controlled drug trial they have tapped label staples Achterbahn D'Amour - the duo comprised of Edit Piafra and Iron Curtis. This is their seventh release for the label thus far. With this project they express their love for the raw side of Chicago house, techno and EBM but specifically the sounds of the infamous little silver box. There's some deeply aquatic trance induction on offer, with for instance the dynamic opener "Balustrade", while they channel some Donato Dozzy (who has also appeared for the label previously) styled hypnotic techno on the sinister "Dehaveland" which also gets a respectful and more powerful VC-118A remix by the always impressive Samuel Van Dijk. Finally things end on a sublime electro tip with the emotive robotic movements displayed on "Don't Talk To Me".

  1. Shut The Lites Off (7:50)
  2. The Funk (4:39)
  3. The Haunting (4:30)
Review: Reissue anthem alert!! Another Day drop DJ Bone's early material from Metroplex back onto vinyl with this tasty reincarnation of the 1999 juggernaut. When this badboy first came out, no one was doing percussion the same way as Bone, with tunes like "Shut The Lites Off" capable of destroying any dance floor with its sublime balance of harmonies and hard beats. "The Funk" offered new and curious shades of electro madness to the scene - a cocktail which still sounds fresh now - and "The Haunting" smashes out the funky techno for warehouse use.

  1. Open Door (11:32)
  2. 00000000 (18:45)
Review: Over the last two decades, few minimal house producers have amassed quite as impressive a body of work as Losoul, AKA German veteran Peter Kremeier. His vast discography contains all manner of hypnotic, locked-in classics, not least the trippy and funk-fuelled "Open Door". It was the producer's debut single way back in 1996 (the first of many on legendary imprint Playhouse) and still sounds suitably current all these years on. This reissue replicates the original track list, pairing the tough, loop-propelled disco-house/techno fusion of "Open Door" with the wonkier "00000000", a typically hypnotic and spaced-out affair in which Kremeier contrasts Clavinet and flute style loops with dubbed-out synth hits and a deliciously sparse-but-heavy groove.

SSS (12" reeditado)
Cat: APRON 20. Rel: 20 Nov 17
  1. Shanti Celeste - "SSS" (OG cut) (8:10)
  2. Funkineven - "SSS" (90s cut) (7:13)
Review: In recent times, Bristol's Shanti Celeste has proved more than adept at blending tough, body-popping electro beats with picturesque electronics and luscious, eyes-closed melodies. She's at it again here, following up two excellent outings on Future Times with the brilliant "SSS". Expect just the right blend of tactile, eyes-closed melodiousness, snappy drum machine work, and a fluid bassline that subtly doffs a cap to Syclops' "Where's Jason's K". Apron boss Funkineven offers his own interpretation on the flip, bringing it closer to early 808 State territory, while adding some neat, boogie-influenced synth touches and saucer-eyed piano flourishes.

  1. Horton
  2. 125 Blacksmith
  3. Nael
Review: Having kicked the label off back in 2014 and been intermittent in releasing music since, Cartulis Music is back with the label boss at the controls for another intriguing dive into the realm of leftfield techno and electro. There's a playful bent to the snagging beat and squelchy synths on "Horton" that call to mind the wobbly electro of Metamatics et al, while "125 Blacksmith" takes a slightly darker path without losing that acidic punch. "Nael" finishes the EP off on a more experimental tip, allowing the sounds plenty of space to loll about in a dazed reverie that shares the unconventional nature of the more dancefloor-minded tracks.

Review: Kris Baha is fast becoming one of the most essential operators in the deviant disco underbelly of Berlin's scene, despite having landed in the city relatively recently. Baha's credentials with labels like Power Station and parties in Melbourne are all that you need to know, and now this release on the ever mighty Cocktail d'Amore seals the deal. Baha has never sounded more confident, pinging deviant synths around nasty drum bite and channeling the gods of industrial darkness to make some rugged body music for the darker kind of dancefloor. The experimental, non-party tracks are just as wild, dealing in all manner of uncompromising noise to further Baha's journey to the upper realms of sonic mud slingers.

Review: What can be said about this CLASSIC slab from Steve Poindexter that hasn't been stated already? Cited by many as one of the most influential Chicago trax there ever was, especially those within Techno circles unsurprisingly, "Computer Madness" set the stage for a new wave of demented club tracks along them like the Gherkin Jerks n aw that. You know the script by now. Originally released on Muzique in 89, and licensed for reissue on the resurrected Dance Mania in 2013, you don't want to miss out on this timely repress of the classic Work That Mutha 12" !

  3. Lost Hours
Review: Sam Smith aka Ploy is making some of the hottest techno around at the moment and, no, the dude ain't German. Bristol-schooled and full of bass dread, Ploy's tunes have taken him from Timedance to Hessle Audio, and now onto the ever-impressive Hemlock Recordings. "Unruly" dominates the A-side with its fat, inter-galactic groove filled to the brim with hollow noise and complex percussion folds, all blowing up to a stop-start rhythm; on the flipside "Garys" chucks out another dense groove of tooled-up techno wizardry, banging and dubbed-out for maximum club tear-out, whereas "Lost Hours" lingers in outer space thanks to a beatless sway made up of kinetic bleeps and aqueous sonic shapes. Killer!

  6. Cave Mace (2:48)
Review: Fair enough, you might not have expected Beau Wanzer on Jealous God, but you sure have him now! While the US producer's particular brand of techno might be a little rawer than some of the label's previous outings, his sense of comical dread makes for the perfect catalogue addition. This is Wanzer's first LP outside of his own label, and it is perhaps the artist's most diverse and accomplished piece of rotter-techno just yet! Each track has his own devious vocals at the core, shape-shifting like demons on crack across both "Speaker Sisters" and "Kipper Hunks". "He Pushes Meals" offers a dystopian vision of techno, all sleepy and acid-flavoured, "while Shitty Cough 17" unleashes one of the most noxious, deranged blizzards of bass that we've heard all year, followed sublimely by the off-kilter shrieks and twists of "In One Ear" and "Cave Mace". Highly recommended.

Review: Mohammad Reza Mortazavi is the perfect companion to Burnt Friedman's steely, minimalistic shades of broken dub techno. The Iranian percussionist comes as a surprise addition to the Nonplace catalogue, but he certainly makes for an even more cerebral drumming experience than the already off-kilter world of Friedman's tunes. Both the A-side's mixes of "Yek" are just on the right side of dark, combining Eastern influences together with colder, more industrial executions from the West. On the B-side, we have a similarly frenetic experience, where metallic drums collide with deep baselines and polyrhythmic flows spanning the full circle. Well, this might just be our favourite Nonplace yet!

  3. Process 3 (10:34)
Review: This debut single from previously unseen outfit LSD is remarkable for a number of reasons, not least the fact that the trio is made up of legendary UK techno producers Luke Slater, Steve Bicknell and Dave Summer AKA Function. Given their collective history of making thumping, mind-altering techno, you'd expect Progress to be both heavy and trippy. That's certainly what you get from opener "Process 1", where psychedelic electronics and cascading, otherworldly noises rise above an armour-plated techno groove. They push the envelope even further on "Process 2", a track blessed with restless cymbal lines and weird, off-key electronics. In comparison, the similarly intense "Process 3" seems deep and woozy, though the incessant, 1990 style bleeps and "LFO" style synths guarantees a suitably hallucinogenic feel throughout.

Review: Originally released in 1993, we're elated to see this re-issue of the Dan Curtin classic on seminal UK imprint Peacefrog. The only release ever that the Cleveland native released under the Apogee moniker, the four tracks on offer are representative of a golden era in Midwest American dance music - with Curtin's trademark touch throughout. From the epically funked-up acid odyssey "Sunrise On The 2nd Moon" to the emotive rave-breaks driven techno-soul of "Horizons Forgotten" on the A side: these two are certainly up there with anthems like Laurent Garnier "Acid Eiffel" or "The Dance" by Derrick May. Similarly on the flip, "Inside Above" sees the second wave icon channel the spirit of first wave innovators of Detroit. With its finely tuned and syncopated rhythm arrangements backed by evocative strings passages and the furious squall of that notorious little Roland box.
