  3. Distant (5:04)
  4. Slam Deep (6:14)
  5. Channel & Transmission (2:00)
Review: For his first outing of 2020, Kyle Hall returns to the label he founded last year, Forget The Clock, with a suitably strong five-track missive. Check first languid opener "Shark", a splash around in crystal clear waters where simmering chords, luscious pads and glassy-eyed melodic motifs stretch out over bubbly, Latin-tinged drum machine beats and a dubby bassline. Hall makes bolder strides towards the dancefloor on lo-fi house cut "Vexed", before doffing a cap to Larry Heard and Ron Trent on the gorgeous deep house positivity of "Distant". Elsewhere, "Slam Deep" joins the dots between Steve Poindexter and the 2000 Black style of jazzy broken beat, while "Channel & Transmission" is a skewed skip through wonky deep house/jazz-funk fusion.

  1. I Like It (Blow Out dub) (5:15)
  2. I Like It (Blow Out dub - The Maghreban Revenge mix) (9:36)
Review: Released on 1989 on Canadian imprint Big Shot Records, the "Blow Out Dub" of Landlord's sole single, "I Like It", cannily combined Bleep and bass style heavy sub business with the kind of bounding riffs and warehouse-friendly piano stabs that were popularized by early Inner City records. It's aged rather well, as this 2019 reissue proves. It feels like a current club record rather than one made 30 years ago. It comes backed by a fresh remix, with The Maghreban offering up an epic journey through rave-style breakbeat madness that builds, drops, builds again and then goes crazy over nine sweaty, mind-altering minutes.

  1. Thomas Schumacher & Victor Ruiz - "Intuit" (7:52)
  2. Anfisa Letyago - "Are U In" (6:48)
  3. Loco & Jam - "Addicted" (7:26)
Review: Drumcode are back with another edition of its A side series - look out! You can bet it's packed full of reliable peak time weaponry for the main room, so handle with extreme caution. First up is the legend from Bremen Thomas Schumacher, teaming up with his ascendant homeboy Victor Ruiz on "Intuit" - a massive and barrelling thriller that will tunnel you into submission. On the flip, we have two more epics that are sure to cause some drama on the dancefloor: there's the seething and adrenalised paranoia of Neapolitan up-and-comer Anfisa Letyago's "Are U In", followed by Irish power duo Loco & Jam who hammer the message home with the thunderous, tom-heavy chug of "Addicted".

  1. Wave Gliders (5:10)
  2. Ocean Myst (6:04)
  3. Deep Horizons (6:38)
  4. Twilight Dive (5:24)
Review: Electro heads take note, Gaetan Votion is here with his emergent Aquatronics alias looking to celebrate everything Drexciyan. From the project title to the sounds on this latest 12", you can hear the influence of Gerald Donald and James Stinson faithfully channeled - the important thing is Votion has done a good job of it. "Wave Gliders" is awash with rich, sweeping pads and underpinned by chunky bass synths, while "Ocean Myst" takes things under the waves with beautifully rendered aqueous atmospherics. "Deep Horizons" is a sweeter mood with powerful chord progressions at its heart for a highly emotional listening experience. "Twilight Dive" completes the set with a mellow mood for that brings a perfect sense of balance to this top drawer EP.

  1. Dubfire presents EVOLV - "Deadbug" (7:30)
  2. Harvey McKay - "Find Yourself" (7:19)
  3. Eats Everything - "Organico" (6:10)
Review: As you'd perhaps expect, there are a couple of seriously big hitters involved in the latest missive in Drumcode's ongoing "A Sides" vinyl series. Former Deep Dish man Dubfire unfurls the EVOLV project and offers up "Deadbug", a stomping slab of dark and moody big room techno where foreboding riffs and fizzing electronic pulses ride a tough-but-snappy techno groove. The other "big name" contribution comes from Bristolian Eats Everything. He steals the show with the rave-centric bounce of "Organica" and its alluring mixture of hip-house style yelps, wonk-a-donk riffs and thunderous drums. Further heavyweight sleaze is provided by Harvey McKay and the dirty acid techno filth of "Find Yourself".

  1. Pacific (6:34)
  2. Kame (6:23)
  3. Project One (6:58)
  4. Separate Ways (5:32)
Review: This may be a debut outing for Naone, but Timothee Victorri has been busy over the last few years as S.O.N.S, Fulbert, SYO and more. The vibe on this collaborative release is one of introspective rave, kicking off with the epic "Pacific" which generously doffs its cap to Bicep with its staccato vocal snippets and brooding mood. "Kame" has a deeper techno tone, richly melodic but tastefully submerged. "Project One" takes things in an acidic direction, and "Separate Ways" finishes things off on a melancholic, beatless tip. Previous S.O.N.S releases have flown out, and we expect this to be no different.

New Era (12")
Cat: JJB 001. Rel: 02 Jun 20
  1. Acid Remake (Lynwood New mix) (8:11)
  2. Lynwood 23 (5:38)
  3. Lynwood Engine (6:49)
Review: According to Jared Wilson, the debut release on the freshly minted Jason, Jared and Brian's Records imprint is dedicated to (and influenced by), "Roland, Dinsync, Social Entropy Engine and the Pacific Northwest". Musically, it's not a great departure from his usual robust, acid-fired, club-focused style, but that's no bad thing. Perhaps the pick of the bunch is A-side "Acid Remake (Lynwood New mix)", where undulating TB-303 acid lines bubble away atop a snappy house beat and suitably intergalactic, Motor City techno style chords. Elsewhere, "Lynwood 23" is a more boisterous if bittersweet acid techno workout, while "Lynwood Engine" is deep, melancholic and undeniably alien sounding.

  6. Devil Ray Cove (2:53)
Review: In the face of all those Clone reissue compilations, Tresor are doing the right thing and digging into their own archive of seminal aquatic machine funk from Detroit electro legends Drexciya, and stepping up with the Hydro Doorways EP is the kind of power move that most labels can only dream of being able to make. From the cinematic drama of "Quantum Hydrodynamics" to the textbook boogie down synth abandon of "Polymono Plexusgel", not forgetting the heavy-on-the-one throwdown of "Lost Vessel" or the alien gurgles and peppy pace of "Species On The Pod", or the... oh you know the drill. This is timeless, essential business for anyone that takes electronic music seriously.

  6. Mystica (6:12)
  7. Cyclical Pathway (5:36)
  8. Ambrosia (7:13)
Review: Versalife continues a prolific run of deep and dynamic electro soul with this double pack on 20/20 Vision. The scene is set early on with the smoky pads and crisp drums of "Binary Worlds" - equal parts deep-diving machine soul and body-popping 808 funk. Things get nastier with the strafing monosynth punctuating "Covert Ops" and the edgy creep of "Shadow Union" on to "Manifold"s luxuriant sound world. The quality level remains staggeringly high as we trip through classically informed electro of every shade, adding yet another accomplished payload to the formidable Versalife catalogue.

Cat: BAREC 011. Rel: 01 Jun 20
  1. SHE (6:07)
  2. SHE (NX1 remix) (5:59)
  3. Saturated Faces (5:24)
  4. Inevitability (4:52)
  5. Tagebuch (4:53)
Review: Blind Allies are an unstoppable force in the slimy underbelly of electro right now, and they're back with another shell shocker on the bounce from Zeta Reticula's "Sonic Assault". This time around Void Cells (Bristol-based Latvian producer Aleksejs Apolskis) makes a pointed return following the digital release Perception Model back in 2018. The drums rain down hard on this record, not least on punchy electro bruiser "SHE". NX1 offers up a rabble rousing techno twist on the original, before "Saturated Faces" opens up the B side with another fist-shaking slab of 4/4. Behind the grubby demeanour of the music lies some serious craft, making this a must-check for those looking in the more interesting corners of the electro boom.

  8. Reditus (3:49)
Review: Parisian label Lowless follow up the stellar Svarog 12" with this intriguing paddlesteam through deepest techno waters via apparent newcomer Ameeva. The mood is resolutely ambient at the front end of this album, even as the soft-hitting, blown out beats creep in on "Hidden Inertia". There's a grubby, lo-fi quality to the sounds on offer, but they're offset by the depth of composition to create an engaging sonic environment that wraps itself around you. Plenty of dub processing and a preference for languid, subtly wielded pads adds to the gauzy finish of the record,
