Radium (7:53)
Uranium Smuggle (7:01)
Hibernation Drive (6:15)
Review: For their latest trick, the Rawax crew has taken a deep dive into the back catalogue of Roman Flugel and Jorn Elling Wuttke's work as Acid Jesus - the project with which they made their name before morphing into Alter Ego. Lead cut 'Radium' dates from 1995 and wraps alien electro sonics, proto-minimal techno motifs and pots and pans percussion around a deep bassline and hypnotic machine drums. The pair's passion for heads-down hypnotism and metallic noises is further explored on the superb 'Uranium Smuggle' (which originally appeared on the flip-side of 'Radium'), while 'Hibernation Drive' is a punchy and evocative electro number first released in 1997.

Radium (7:51)
Uranium Smuggle (7:01)
Hibernation Drive (6:15)
Review: The reissue of Acid Jesus's tracks 'Radium,' 'Uranium Smuggle,' and 'Hibernation Drive' is a momentous occasion for electronic music enthusiasts. Produced between 1995-1997 at Klangfabrik, these tracks are a testament to the duo's pioneering sound and gathered here for a vinyl pressing together for the first time. 'Radium' and 'Uranium Smuggle' showcase a similar sonic structure, with 'Radium' delivering a frenzied, peak-hour experience, while 'Uranium Smuggle' offers a cooler, more contemplative journey. The underated track, 'Hibernation Drive,' is not to be missed. This gem is stunning blend of IDM, techno, acid, electro, and Detroit influences. It's a masterpiece that transcends genres completing this German bomb.

Wounds (5:31)
Life Reborn (5:08)
Spectres (5:27)
Digital Space Interface (4:21)
Review: Mannequin's line in techno is always steely and fad-free, so Alessandro Adriani is a perfect person to step up and make the next contribution to its catalogue. There is an electro overtone to the opener with its muscular rhythms and zippy synths making for a dark, dystopian vibe. 'Life Reborn' then ups the energy levels with paddy kick drums beneath coruscated arps and tumbling hits that bring a hint of old-school EBM to the party. 'Spectres' is more overtly dark and hard and menacing with its ghoulish vocals and 'Digital Space Interface' then takes off to the cosmos on more sleek lines and something machine drum funk.

Review: Global Underground present the next release from the nextmost DJ to grace their City Series. ANNA's dynamic sound encompasses multiple styles and genres, from ambient through house to techno, and encapsulates the effortless chic and vibrant nightlife of one of the coolest cities in Europe - Lisbon. This modish Portuguese metropolis has always enjoyed a certain notoriety, but this has perhaps not been felt so intently more than in the last five years or so. ANNA now fleshes out Lisbon's essence, capturing its descending narrow streets, castellated jetties and glorious sunsets with a progressive house, trance and techno mix that satisfies all possible ends of a newfangled tourist's dream.

Rave Revival EP

Anthrophia - "The Voice" (5:09)
Dimension 23 - "Fascination" (Seb G mix) (5:17)
Centuras - "Jizz" (6:15)
Dimension 23 - "The Eagle" (5:48)
Review: Hyperdrive's label debut was a biggie that brought together old and new-school techno on one fizzing EP. The follow-up comes soon after and this time makes no bones about being a Rave Revival. Anthrophia's 'The Voice' kicks off with what is a hefty breakbeat cut with edgy rave stabs and slamming bass. Dimension 23 - 'Fascination' (Seb G mix) then takes a more stripped-back approach with turbocharged synths layered up over silky drums. Centuras brings plenty of bright, euphoric prog energy to the urgent drum funk of 'Jizz' and last of all Dimension 23's 'The Eagle' then kicks out more dusty old-school breaks with machine gun synth fire. A potent EP, make no mistake.

Review: In March, COD3 QR launched a digital release featuring DJ Deep, Avision, and Deetron which they have now followed up with a first-ever vinyl outing fettering new tracks from the same artists, all curated by the great French techno icon Laurent Garnier who looks to embody the label's ethos: "music diversity is our strength." Avision, rooted in NYC's vibrant club culture, offers 'Hold No Groove' and 'Talk Is Cheap' which showcase his signature New York techno and house style. Swiss veteran Deetron presents 'Pulse' and 'Corazon', and again goes deep, while DJ Deep's 'What's Going On' and 'Transition' reflect his Parisian rave roots and sophisticated style.

Hope (7:07)
Ode To My Frida (Vince Watson Piano Reshape) (7:57)
Review: Joaquin Joe Claussell's Sacred Rhythm label is in a purple patch right now with a clutch of new EPs all dropping in quick succession. As well as the boss himself, Roa Azulay also steps up with more spine-tingling deep house depths here across three fresh cuts. 'Satori' opens up with dreamy melodies floating up high over nimble, lithe drums and poignant chords. 'Hope' hits harder with a more driving deep house but still melodically rich sound and 'Ode To My Frida' (Vince Watson Piano Reshape) brings plenty of Detroit soul to the rippling drums and bass.

Principle Of Rotation (5:35)
Antiruffa (5:40)
Below The Surface (5:42)
Fire From The Shadows (5:10)
Tone Of Rush (4:56)
Review: Remko Beekwilder's latest record, 'Principle Of Rotation', is, in the artist's own words, the "characteristic spirit of a momentum feeling folded into a rotation work ethic". Attempting the perspicacious work of decoding this epigraph - a bold, cryptic opening statement to say the least - it's only logical to conclude that Beekwilder considers the act of making techno - not to mention listening to it - to be a kind of rotary movement, through which the excesses of the factory and the burnt-out hyper-Protestant work ethic of the contemporary post-Fordist subject map onto one another. Techno, in other words, is a drive, not an instinct; it bottles the inhuman, alienated, excessive and machinic character of the factory into a clear sonic formula. On 'Principle Of Rotation', we're met with a kooky two-note yawp set against a thorough backbeat, suggesting a kind of unsustainable inherited power; as we said, techno's rotor is a drive, not a cycle; while 'Antiruffa' moves increasingly alarmist, heralding the late-stage process of a behemoth techno-industrial complex collapsing under the weight of its own contradictions; and 'Below The Surface' brings a more subnautical feel to Beekwilder's theoretical base, with freq-modded leads and shuffly, muffly stabs setting a contrastingly saturated tone, compared to the final, arid firefight that is 'Fire From The Shadows'.

Review: Vasione Digitale collaborates once more with Italian techno luminary Marco Bellini, a pivotal figure in Italy's '90s club scene. Known for his residency at clubs like Aida and Area City in the Mediterranean's northeast, Bellini's flamboyant persona included memorable peak-time arrivals on his Harley Davidson. Beyond DJing countless nights and after hours, Bellini co-produced notable records including a standout collaboration with the late Alberto Bertapelle on Mammut Records. Their partnership shaped the label's distinct style, featuring dark arpeggiated basslines, metallic drum breaks, and exploratory dubbed-out journeys that left a lasting imprint on the electronic landscape.

Acid Arcane (5:55)
Codebreakers (6:13)
Impulse Of Infinity (6:05)
Depth Perception (5:35)
Review: Compelling, melodic and dreamatic new techno from Italian duo Boston 168, who transcend the rest with their intelligent and contextually grounded take on the genre. Drawing inspiration from the transformation of industrial settings into rave venues, Sergio Pace and Vincenzo Ferramosca deliver the latest iteration of their arpy analog sound here for leading experimental techno pushers, Arts. Their opener 'Acid Arcane' instantly recalls the feeling of leafing through forbidden codexes and grimoires, in desperate but vain search of the gab-giving essence of Faustian techno knowledge; then there's the cryptic, smoke-blocked weights of 'Codebreakers', which equally conjures a kind of impossible-to-track techno scytale or puzzlebox, in its various moody pad chord movements and piquing acid plucks. The B-side errs more horrific and driving, 'Depth Perception' serving as the worthy culmination of a throng of heaters.

Rhythm Control (XTC mix) (5:32)
Zeta Wave (5:18)
Revenge (5:17)
Psyche (4:54)
Review: Tom Carruthers is a genuine prodigy - a prolific producer of undeniably excellent techno, electro and house music whose expertly authentic nods to dance music's shared part belie his youthfulness. He's released on L.I.E.S in the past but has mostly put out music on his own Non-Stop Rhythm label. Here he makes his bow on the reliable Craigie Knowes imprint with a predictably good four-tracker. Predictably he's delivered the goods, first joining the dots between Joey Beltram, Chiago jack and LFO on 'Rhythm Control (XTC Mix)', before layering mind-mangling analogue electronics atop a heavy TR-909 techno beat on 'Zeta Wave'. 'Revenge' is moody, rolling and hypnotic, while 'Psyche' sees him once again pay tribute to his favourite genre of all, turn-of-the-90s bleep & bass.

Aqua (18:18)
Review: Rambadu's self-titled label is young but already onto a good thing with a distinctly deep brand of techno. This time out the boss is back once more but in cahoots with Italian techno legend Claudio PRC. They cook up a trio of mind melters starting with 'Sai.' Warped lines menacingly roam about the stereo field over sparse kicks and deep abs. 'Matika' is just as paired back and atmospheric in a deep, dark way with slowly churning drums taking you deeper down the rabbit hole. 'Aqua' is a meatless blend of distant groans and wispy pads that keeps you in suspense.

Fading (Posthuman remix) (6:22)
Collapsed Lung (6:28)
Review: Timothy Clerkin made all of these cuts live in his vintage synthesiser recording facility, opener. 'Fading' is a great blend of characterful synth sounds that are daubed like paint over speedy linear drums with a trance-tinged vocal hook appearing occasionally up top. 'Sigma' takes more visceral and raw approach with textural saw tooth synths and percussive drums. 'Fading' (Posthuman remix) is twitchy and gurgling broken beat techno with some throwback and raved ready piano stabs. Last of all is 'Collapsed Lung' which has squealing, glassy melodies bring a real feeling of unease over slithering and metallic techno drums.

Antimatter (6:22)
Exomoon (6:36)
Review: Netherlands outfit Planet Rhythm continues to fulfil their stated mission to explore the boundaries of dance music, and to 'design the future', with releases from talents whose music testifies the idea that techno is too big of a concept to be limited to a single idea. Yan Cook is one such talent in their eyes; his latest for PR's limited black labels series hears four laconic, calculative and dark techno numbers play back in cold step, like a one-track space probe feeling its way through a planetary ring of ice. Cook's sci-fi theme is inhospitable, with his take on the presence of 'Antimatter' in the universe amounting to a kind of fearful metallic object grating away in an echoic chamber; and 'Exomoon', which conjures the image of said celestial anomaly via frigidly bleak pads and starkly reverberative yawps and drum machines. A chilling vision of an exodic space-faring future, perhaps once in which we've been stripped of our humanities entirely.

Corrugated Silence - "Elevate" (13:41)
Thunderhead - "Golden Eyed" (10:05)
Review: Transmigration return with more brilliantly psychedelic techno sounds which have been carefully dug out from the rich archives of cult UK label Hollistic Recordings. As always, those originals have been remastered and restored and this one features a devastating a-side from Iestyn Polson and Steve Dungey of Projective Vision. Their mind melting and 13 plus minute 'Elevate' is a brilliantly involving mental trip and then on the flip side comes the gurgling and acid laced widescreen prog techno trip of 'Golden Eyed' by Thunderhead aka Polson joining forces with Jason Meherin. Plenty of retro future magic to tap into here.

Nocturnal Noise (5:25)
Review: After a fine collaborative outing on Semantica last year, Napoli tastemakers Retina.it and Domenico Crisci combine their skills once more for the tenth release from Summa Cum Laude. 'A Man With A Suitcase' opens up with a mix of textural synth details and long-form linear techno drums that all work you into a lather. 'Dead End Street' ups the pace and gets more manic with a hurried rhythm and urgent synth flashes peeling off the drums and 'Cross Road' then gets more weird with warped synth circles bringing tension and menace. 'Nocturnal Noise' closes out with reverberating synth leads and wispy curlicues bringing some rave mentality to the rooted beats.

'Roar' pulses with explosive energy, driven by relentless tempo, powerful beats, and infectious hooks. Review: Named after the classic Czech sci-fi animated film of the same name, veteran producer DIN returns as the nextmost focus of the Coming From Returning To label, who offer up a fresh reissue of his 1992 techno classic. Then five good years into the alias (DIN was formed in 1987), producer Pupka Frey began making his distinct brand of electro-disko as a personal exploration of futuristic and analog dance textures. This EP is an 'artificial' alt soundtrack to the movie, which was otherwise histrionic and over-funky for the tastes of most techno enjoyers. Highlights here have got to be the glassy 'B-Minis' and the opening 'Travesty' (the tune's ironically anything but).

Review: Veteran electrohead and former artist on the Rephlex Records roseter DMX Krew's Ed DMX takes the well-known story by Jorge Luis Borges of The Library of Babel, said to contain all the different languages of the earth. Some deep philosophical thought has gone into the album's concept, but we'll leave that to Ed to explain. Instead, we'll tell you that from beginning to end there's plenty of the kind of trademark 80s synth playfulness in evidence, with a generally more mellow and soundtrack-related rather than frenetic and dancefloor-filling vibe in evidence, even on faster tracks like 'The Combed Thunderclap'. Still, Ed knows what he's doing when it comes to this kind of leftfield electro gear, and it's a rewarding, never boring listen.

De La Isla EP
Cat: ESP 101. Rel: 18 Jun 24
Obscure Entrance (5:34)
Language Of The Dead (5:16)
Bandhu (4:16)
The Island Groove (7:48)
Dream Body (Lucid mix) (6:45)
Review: De La Isla EP marks a compelling debut for Espiritu Recordings, showcasing Dojo Zone's versatile production prowess across five tracks. 'Dream Body (Exotica Mix)' kicks off with a potent blend of techno and progressive house, a dynamic journey through pulsating beats and twisted mood swings. 'Houdini Hauz' follows suit, infusing 80s-inspired sounds into a modern tech house, resulting in a groove-laden sonic landscape reminiscent of new wave aesthetics. The EP takes a detour with 'Obscure Entrance,' paying homage to Detroit's rhythmic heritage with its bubbling acid lines and 808 state-esque sounds. 'Bandu Bandu' is another goodie, that ventures deeper into the realms of futurism, with its serious and contemplative tones layered over intricate textures, offering a profound listening experience. Dojo Zone's masterful fusion of retro influences with contemporary production techniques makes this inaugural release from Espiritu Recordings a promising start for the label, setting high expectations for future endeavors.

Fire (6:05)
Air (6:31)
Earth (6:35)
Water (6:01)
Review: This EP comes with a great backstory about "the long-forgotten DP-6 shuttlecraft of the Kwansi pirates," that is well worth finding to read while you delve into the tunes. They operate in a dubbed-out techno world that is slow motion to start with on 'Fire,' a laid-back and breezy cut with warming synths smeared from one side of the stereo field to the other. 'Air' is slightly more upright and dynamic but no less deep then 'Earth' bringing some texture and more steel-plated drums to move things on before 'Water' closes out a blissed-out vibe with light-emitting pads that bring some hope and emotional uplift.

Interzona (1:49)
Review: Interzona is well worth getting excited about. The debut album from what the label Gost Zvuk describes as "the hidden gem of the Moscow electronic scene, Dmitry Drozdov," the record is a complete masterclass in synthesised production. One of those LPs that takes you in countless directions, all of which are great, but does this with depth and authenticity. 'Eliseus' is a dubby ambient techno workout, ghostly breath work and bleeps adding complexity to an otherwise pared back arrangement. 'OK' is a smoky, lo fi house strutter, nods to blues and hip hop more than audible. 'Sliding On Enamel' is one of those smoky, heads down breaks numbers we all wish more people made. 'Voices' goes for bouncy, percussive, floor-first tech, 'LAFS' a naively sweet and playful combination of flutters, taps, plucks and shimmers. 'Loop' is a electro-weird gone full, well, weird.

The Pain To Refuse

Refuse (String mix) (3:56)
Self Surrender (MStr-1ng) (4:49)
Raw Voltage Rhythms (4:38)
Helix (4:37)
Review: Dynamic Forces' The Pain To Refuse on TH Tar Hallow is a stellar homage to late 90s techno. Side-1 opens with 'Refuse' (String mix), featuring a heavy beat complemented by dramatic strings reminiscent of Purpose Maker's epic sound. 'Self Surrender (MStr-1ng)' follows with classic UK techno vibes akin to Surgeon. On Side-2 there is 'Raw Voltage Rhythms,' a track focused on heavy rhythms and chord-driven warehouse techno. Closing the EP is 'Helix,' the darkest of the bunch, offering a brooding and intense atmosphere. Each track perfectly captures the essence of 90s techno flavours.

Tactel Kid (5:15)
Kinki (5:27)
Anti Tu (5:32)
La Raya (5:14)
Review: For Release Number 073 from Polegroup, El Joven Prisionero returns home after ten releases since their Sesiones Mercurio EP. The musical formula remains direct and unyielding, featuring strong percussive elements and sonic aggression at a high tempo rate that never quits. 'Tactel' kicks off with an enormous bass drum and stereo-panned high frequencies, complemented by shuffled hats for added tension. 'Kinki' hypnotizes from the outset, building intensity with layered sounds in a continuous, progressive arrangement and 'Anti Tu' blends sci-fi vibes with heavy-duty drums, creating an elastic tool for skilled mixers, while 'La Raya' features asymmetric FM sequences over superbly programmed drums, bringing the funk to the forefront.

Landing (Kyle Hall remix) (5:11)
Review: Label boss El Prevost makes a welcome return to No Speakers after something of a break. Thankfully the quality levels remain high here as he kicks off with 'Catastrophizing', a brilliantly bass-heavy cut with broken beats to make you sweat. On the flip, 'Landing' has a more inward sense of reflection with its fizzing synths and deep space atmospheres making an indelible mark. Last of all, the magic of Detroit looms large with a superb remix by Motor City mainstay Kyle Hall. His version of 'Landing' brings some jazzy melodic vibes and one of his trademark deep house and bumping grooves. Another essential 12" from No Speakers.

Irrupcion Beligerante (5:11)
Controlled Damage (5:13)
Review: You always know what you're going to get with Drumcode and that is drum led and heavy techno that is rhythmic, weighty, and designed for big clubs. This latest slab of just that is from Oscar Escape and Linear Phase and opens with 'Recoded.' It's a paired back sound, relatively, with pulsating synths and tiny bells over the rolling drums. 'Irrupcion Beligerante' is a wall of rusty synth energy with more block rocking and bulky beats and 'Controlled Damage' burrows deep into the brain with industrial textures and unrelenting energy.

Midi Waters (7:09)
Review: Extrawelt's debut on Marc Romboy's Systematic Recordings is a powerhouse of driving techno, with a title track taking listeners on a futuristic journey, its cinematic quality fuelling your imagination. Arne and Wayan, known for their work on Cocoon, Kompakt/Speicher, and Border Community, exhibit their expertise in blending techno with intricate arrangements and rich harmonies. 'Riverrun' captivates with its dynamic bassline and unique sound palette as music architects. On the flip side, 'Midi Waters' delves into a darker, deeper soundscape, offering a dystopian narrative that will resonate with Detroit Techno enthusiasts. Both tracks on this release exemplify Extrawelt's ability to create catchy electronic music. Dive into this unique two-tracker and experience their sonic world firsthand.

Amazonia (7:01)
Amazonia (Rene Wise remix) (6:09)
Review: US label Lemos kicks off a new limited series here and it comes in 12" form with FadeFace at the controls. 'Grids' gets things underway with thumping kicks and brain-numbing synth lines burrowing deep, while 'Planar (V2)' pulses with low-key sonar blips and deft percussive rattles. 'Amazonia' brings a more heavyweight rhythm that is alive with outer space synth sounds and dubby undercurrents not to mention some deeply buried vocals. A remix from Rene Wise closes out the EP with more tension and texture. All four of these are masterfully stripped-back yet effective and stylish offerings.

Black Jack (Cromby remix) (5:55)
Review: Towering European techno boss Len Faki has enlisted some interesting ahems to serve up new remixes of some of his Fusion album tunes on his own Figure label. The varied results (style wise of course, not in terms of quality) take in 'Don't Be Stupid Day' (Herbert Brain dub) which is a rickety, slower and rattling techno roller, a rave ready and strobe lit Crosby remix of 'It's Time (To Move Your Body)' and a super fast and slick take on 'Gamma' by Glaskin. 'Black Jack' (Cromby remix) then pumps things up with pumping drums and trance tinged pads for an all out hands in the air delight.

Alan Backdrop - "Oelo" (Forest On Stasys remix) (6:09)
Hironori Takahashi - "Exars" (Erika remix) (5:59)
Review: Point C: Remixes offers a lasting impression through the realms of deep and meditative techno, reworked by a line up of formidable producers. The A-side sets the tone with Patrick Russell's remix of Foreign Material's 'Into The Gleams Of Forgetfulness,' weaving tribal rhythms with analog depth, casting an eerie and ominous atmosphere. Hiver's 'Time Lapse' receives a transformation by Estrato Aurora, delivering moody tribal elements immersed in deep meditation, accompanied by atmospheric textures. Sylve's 'Cloudless Raindrops' undergoes a metamorphosis in Polygonia's hands, introducing broken beats, crystallized melodies, and lush backgrounds that elevate the deepness to ethereal heights. On the flip, Forest On Stasys reimagines Alan Backdrop's 'Oelo' into a spacey, alien landscape, inviting listeners to traverse another dimension filled with mysterious encounters. Closing the EP, Erika's remix of Hironori Takahashi's 'Exars' further delves into the mystical, crafting an enigmatic soundscape that captivates the senses. Each track on 'Point C: Remixes' contributes to a sonic exploration of the hypnotic depths of techno.
