Review: Rashied Ali had a unique talent for transforming unlikely sound pairings into masterpieces. Following Interstellar Space with John Coltrane and Duo Exchange with Frank Lowe, he joined forces with violinist Leroy Jenkins for this album in 1975. Jenkins was fresh from the Revolutionary Ensemble and composed all pieces for this rare duet, which is now reissued on vinyl for the first time in nearly half a century. The deluxe set includes an unreleased session exploring standards, the sounds of Coltrane and some truly wild improvisations. A top treasure for jazz-heads.

Review: Given her astronomical global profile, it's hard to believe that Lady Gaga only released her debut album 15 years ago. The Fame is getting a special anniversary reissue to mark the occasion and was worked on with different producers, primarily RedOne, Martin Kierszenbaum, and Rob Fusari. It served to introduce her big mix of pop, rock and dance and as well las being classed as one of the strongest ever debut albums has also has won multiple awards since its release including a total of five Grammy Awards nominations and Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording for its single 'Poker Face', which remains one of Gaga's best known works.

Review: Lady Gaga's latest album is as bold, chaotic and emotionally charged as you would expect of the singular artist as she returns to her pop roots. Blending electro-grunge with theatrical flair, Gaga embraces fame and identity across 14 tracks that span snarling anthems like 'Perfect Celebrity' to raw love songs like 'Blade of Grass.' Along the way are nods to Bowie, Nine Inch Nails and disco, which all bring many layers of intrigue next to the vulnerability and bombast of the vocals. To that point, Gaga's voice shapeshifts from snarling to purring to belting as she examines fame's toll and personal transformation. Though maximalist to the core, MAYHEM never loses its heart and is messy, loud, and thrilling proof Gaga is still defining pop on her own terms.

Review: Vick Lavander is a name that has always been a byword for deep house quality. His sound is couched in a classic template but comes with subtle tweaks and plenty of its own musical character. BEYOND is a bumper collection of beats which proves just that. There are silky and cosmically minded sounds like 'Time & Time Again' next to subtly jazzy dancers like 'Sunset BLVD' and dubby, elegant grooves like the life-affirming 'Grace'. The pace picks up with joints like 'Knights' but never at the expense of atmosphere and slows right down with swab-tinged downbeat delights like 'Good Timing'. A magnificently rich work.

Review: Bill Leeb is the Vancouver-based musician and mastermind behind electro-industrial scene mainstays Front Line Assembly and ambient-pop duo Delerium, as well as a key member of recording projects such as Noise Unit, Intermix and Cyberaktif. The first solo venture by Leeb takes the form of Model Kollapse: a mutative electro-metal odyssey of shocking proportions. Firmly footed in the 80s industrial zeitgeist while still bringing an ear to the sound that could've only been brought to it in the present era, the likes of 'Demons' and 'Terror Forms' are incredible retromorphoses, with heavy EBM and techno production shunning any hint of over-simplicity; precision editing, multiband attentiveness, and controlled caprice, all conjuring images of a seedy but frenetic future Cronenbergian or Gigerian rave, as the old human models collapse all around us.

Review: Evand Dando and co broke through to the mainstream with the sublime, sunny songwriting of 1992's It's A Shame About Ray, then managed to sustain their time at the top the following year with the Slade-referencing Come On Feel The Lemonheads. It's an altogether bigger and superfically impressive prospect, with guests like Rick James and Belinda Carlisle making the contributors' list and a production job from The Robb Brothers which elevates it beyond the slacker rock tag they'd had until the is point. It also spawned their biggest ever single - 'Into Your Arms' - and a host of other chart successes, including the excellent anthem 'Big Gay Heart', which saw them neatly distancing themselves from the jock rock category that other contemporaries like Nirvana quickly found themeslves slipping into.

Review: It's impressive that nearly three decades on from when it was originally released, Car Button Cloth sounds suspended from time. It's a record that was released in the 90s but isn't overly indicative of a time and sits in a space of timeless alternative rock. You can file this next to R.E.M, Nirvana or even the Beach Boys. The sixth track, 'Losing Your Mind' is up there in terms of palpable tenderness with Brian Wilson's evocative style. Meanwhile, 'Something's Missing' ranks high up next to Foo Fighters' best stuff in terms of punk rock and pop melodies coming together. Elsewhere, 'Knoxville Girl' is singer Evan Dando's nod to idol Gram Parsons - a country hit infused with unhinged explosions of darkly saturated guitar. Perhaps the thing that is more indicative of the time, though, is the grunge idol fronting the band. Evan Dando's is said to have had led a drug-fueled lifestyle at the time, to the point where was reportedly arrested in Sydney airport, high on acid and bleeding, just the year before this album first came out. Despite chaos around the time of writing, Dando's talent was left impressively intact and this record is an enduring hit, worthy of revisiting in its new red vinyl form.

Review: Newly, radically reimagined remixes created from John Lennon's classic song, Mind Games. These nine Meditation Mixes craft their own space while maintaining firm and authentic roots in John Lennon's original recording. Each have been radically altered, slowed down and extended, ranging from five to ten to over 33 minutes, allowing the soundtrack to wash over the listener and provide a relaxing deep listening experience. Four tracks are presented as binaural versions which each focus on different types of brain waves: Beta, Delta, Gamma and Theta. Named 'Mind', 'Space', 'Spirit' and 'Love', these exploit the response of the ear to left and right frequencies, which constructively combine to produce a new frequency, which in turn, as they say, activates beneficial brain patterns. Produced by Sean Lennon, these contemporary Lennon versions aim to positively impact the contemporary anxiety-racked listener, whose appetite for deep listening has only understandably increased in recent years.

Review: Formed in 1967 at Kyoto's Doshisha University, Les Rallizes Denudes were pioneering in the same way as The Velvet Underground, but their music remained a cult concern through a lack of official releases and a spread of bootlegged recordings. Fronted by enigmatic singer Takashi Mizutani, they presented an untamed noise-rock approach before the genre existed, fusing furious blasts of intensity, psychedelia and free jazz with melodic, folk informed passages. On this reissue, we're taken back to their time playing at shortlived but seminal rock club OZ, which captures this incendiary, little known group as their musical might was growing.

Review: Japanese psych rock icons Les Rallizes Denudes originally formed in 1967, led by enigmatic frontman Takashi Mizutani and famed for their fearless embrace of distortion as a vital component of their sound. Through the decades the band went through many iterations and pauses, but they made a vital comeback in 1993 after five years of silence. Baus '93 captures the band in full flight at Baus Theatre in Tokyo, with Mizutani joined by Katsuhiko Ishii on guitar, Kiyohiro Takada on bass and Toshiro Mimaki on drums. Restored from original multitrack tapes and audience sources, it's a visceral document of the band's abrasive, hard-rocking sound captured here on red velvet double vinyl.

Review: Les Rallizes Denudes' Yaneura Oct 80 is an almost ritualistic performance that blends dark, nocturnal atmospheres with raw, passionate energy. The addition of guitarist Fujio Yamaguchi brought a bluesy edge, creating a dense, dissonant soundscape that feels both lethargic and hypnotic. This release marks a significant moment in the band's history, showcasing a unique lineup that left a lasting impact on fans. The tight rhythm section provides a solid foundation for the intense interplay between Mizutani and Fujio, resulting in a surreal and ethereal sonic experience. Makoto Kubota's meticulous mixing and mastering ensure that this performance is preserved in its raw, psychedelic glory, making the world of Les Rallizes Denudes an intriguing piece of Japanese music history.

Review: Temporal Drift drop the never-before-heard master tapes from Japanese cult legends Les Rallizes Denudes' legendary second comeback gig in 1993, after an unexpected slew of CD albums dropped in 1991. The band hadn't performed since the 80s, and came back for blood. Eyewitness accounts of the gig said that the abrasive squall of Takashi Mizutani and Katsuhiko Ishii's guitars that night had concertgoers pacing for the lobby to seek respite from the sonic furnace. After 30 years in storage, the multi-tracked recordings from the performance fell into the hands of former band member Makoto Kubota, who lovingly remastered them to give listeners a sense of the transcendental roar which The Rallizes unleashed that night. Highlights include the braindead rockabilly shuffle of 'Eternally now', and the steady, diesel-powered chug of 'Darkness Returns 2', which, like all other tracks on the album, is eventually pierced by the screeching peal of Mizutani's telecaster, which eats the whole mix up in true Rallizes style. A much mythologised live performance by a much mythologised band. Essential!

Famous for its era-defining hits like 'Emotionally Scarred' and 'We Paid,' the album cemented Lil Baby's status as a generational voice in hip-hop and listen back now, despite how fast this genre moves on, it still stands up as an album that marked the moment Lil Baby took the lead.

Review: Needle Mythology Records is set to release a super deluxe, expanded remastered edition of The Lilac Time's 1991 album Astronauts, after over three years of meticulous preparation. The 3LP format come complete with an extensive 11,000-word oral history and liner notes by co-founder Pete Paphides, a devoted admirer of Stephen Duffy. At the height of the shoegaze and baggy scenes, Astronauts emerged as a unique entry that sidestepped prevailing trends. While it may not reflect the album Duffy originally envisioned, it stands as a remarkable collection of songs. Duffy crafts mesmerising melodies that linger in the listener's memory, creating a sound that feels introspective rather than utopian. With the departure of Nick Duffy and the introduction of Sagat Guirey, the band's sonic palette shifts dramatically, favouring jazz-infused guitar work over the folk elements of previous albums. Guirey's intricate playing, especially on tracks like 'A Taste for Honey', shows the evolution of the band while honouring its past.

Review: Set to tear the (proverbial) roof off of Gunnersbury Park this August alongside the newly rejuvenated Pendulum, nu-metal icons Limp Bizkit have reached a peak in their career where their previously maligned nu-metal hip-hop hybrid has become a nostalgia source for hundreds of thousands fans. What better preparation for the upcoming event than this double LP greatest hits collection that runs through a myriad of the band's most essential bangers. From the breakout (no pun intended) singles 'Break Stuff' and 'Nookie' which put Significant Other on the map and in CD collections, to the endless string of hits from ignorant masterwork Chocolate Starfish & The Hot Dog Flavored Water, such as 'My Generation', 'Rollin'', 'My Way' and the Mission Impossible 2 soundtrack stomper 'Take A Look Around', all the way up to the much underrated 'Eat You Alive' and The Who cover 'Behind Blue Eyes' from the unfairly forgotten Results May Vary, this is an ideal selection for both passive listeners and diehard fans. And yes, it obviously includes the George Michael cover of 'Faith'.

Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight marks a pivotal shift from their nu-metal roots, exploring a richer musical landscape. Co-produced with Rick Rubin, this 2007 release blends alternative rock, hip-hop and political insights, evident in tracks like 'What I've Done' and 'Hands Held High' and a collision of dynamic experimentation with aggressive rock and infectious melodies in 'Bleed It Out.' A commercial and critical success, Minutes to Midnight further broadened Linkin Park's appeal and impact and now vinyl-loving Park fans have a chance add it to their collections.

Review: Bruce Campbell's character in The Evil Dead is up there with cinema's finest anti (or, possibly just accidental) heroes. Sam Raimi's landmark comedy horror movie about college students who accidentally open a portal to a terrifying underworld, with four out of five becoming possessed by demonic forces leaving one, our main man, to fend for himself, with or without two working hands, was exceptionally well written, combining genuine frights with visual and script gags, hitting all bullseyes in the sub genre. Evil Dead II was a high quality sequel, essentially telling the same story, only with a few tweaks. Again, it was laugh-out-loud funny and also pretty scary. A huge part of its impact comes down to the incredible music by Joseph Loduca. A Detroit jazz guitarist turned film and TV composer, here he combines fantastical instrumental movements, with surreal romantic piano phrases, knife-edge refrains and eerie reversed strings, creating a blueprint from which many others have looked to when trying to come up with an original horror score.

The Greatest Love
Review: London Grammar's fourth studio album, The Greatest Love, arrives as a comprehensive deluxe package, including a 20-page hardcover book, 12" vinyl, 10" vinyl with bonus tracks and CD. The album marks a significant evolution for the band, reflecting their journey over eleven years since their debut If You Wait. Known for their ethereal vocals and emotive lyrics, the band has maintained their distinct sound while embracing a newfound creative freedom. With lead single 'House' symbolising empowerment, the album blends electronica with pop, showcasing tracks like 'Fakest Bitch,' which highlights Hannah Reid's powerful vocals and raw, introspective lyrics. The release follows their successful Californian Soil and notable touring achievements, including performances with Coldplay and record-breaking UK tour sales. The Greatest Love captures the band's shift from relentless touring to prioritising art and personal growth, a reflection of their expanded confidence and evolving musical approach. It's a celebration of their artistic journey and commitment to music, balancing personal and creative fulfillment.

Review: Some of Masters at Work man Louie Vega's greatest full-length projects have paid tribute to New York's 50-year dance music story, as well as his personal musical inspirations (most notably the Nuyorican Soul album he penned with long-time production partner Kenny 'Dope' Gonzalez in the 1990s). Expansions in the NYC, his latest epic excursion, treads a similar path, offering a large number vocal-heavy numbers that not only blend elements of disco, boogie, proto-house and house, but also feature some genuinely high-profile vocalists from that era (think Peech Boys' Bernard Fowler, Unlimited Touch). Vega also joins forces with 21st century house star Honey Dijon on the superb 'Feels So Right', while the hook-ups with Moodymann, Kerri Chandler and Joe Clausell are as inspired as you'd expect.

Review: Working in partnership with Light in the Attic and curated by Grammy-nominated producer, DJ and journalist Kevin Howes this wonderful new collection chronicles a vital musical migration: in late-1960s Toronto, Caribbean immigrants infused the city with ska, rocksteady and reggae and recorded some of the era's toughest tracks. Originators from Studio One, Treasure Isle and Trojan Records all united and broke racial and cultural barriers to build an influential yet under-appreciated Canadian reggae scene that is now showcased with a 20-page booklet with archival images, artist bios and essays on this double vinyl set.
