Review: Since emerging in the middle of the last decade, Headie One (real name Irving Adjei) has become one of UK Drill's most reliable and namechecked artists. Even so, his releases have been relatively limited of late, with singles and collaborative mixtapes being favoured over full-length excursions. The Last One, his long-awaited follow up to 2020 studio debut Edna, is a predictably confident and distinctive affair, with Adjei delivering his distinctive North London raps over bold and weighty basslines, hybrid drill/grime beats and some genuinely attractive musical flourishes. It is a full ghetto tech workout with pumped-up booty-bouncing beats that traverse a wide range of tempos. The high energy highlights come thick and fast with the likes of 'Big Prism' riding on juke beats, 'Milf Milo' bringing some lithe synth chords and raw claps and 'I Swear It's A Bop' (feat KAYY & ALLGIRLSALLOWED) featuring broken drum patterns, glistening synth stabs and r&b vocals full of soul.

Review: Australian collective Hiatus Kaiyote's trademark sound has long been rotted in jazz-funk, but as fourth album Love Heart Cheat Code proves, there's always been much more to it than that.
