Review: Foghat are an English rock band formed in 1971 in London. The band are known for their blues-based hard rock sound and their hit songs 'Slow Ride' and 'Fool for the City' which are both featured here. Slow Ride: Live In Concert gives us undistilled Foghat, recorded and filmed live in Texas in 1999, just before Dave Peverett's death in 2000 at the age of 56. The power and drive of these classic songs come ringing through and are a celebration of Foghat's vision and talent, many years since the band exploded onto the world in 1970. Pressed on orange marbled vinyl., this is a must have for fans of the band considering the time of when the concert date was in the band's history.

Review: Legends of EBM, Canadian electro-industrialists Front Line Assembly should need no introductions, given their work stretches back to the mid-1980s. Nevertheless, they occupy a relatively obscure space - made for dance floors, but twisted, dark cornered, writhing, distorted dance floors where many fear to tread. With that in mind there will be some newcomers, and The Initial Command is a great starting point because it's the starting point of the band's back catalogue.
Originally released in 1987, this is the first album from an impressive 17-LP-strong body of work. And it's also the most definitive of their sonic style, setting a benchmark for all that would follow. Fiercely original, not least for 'it's time', from the glittering synths and harsh metallic percussion of the unarguably cinematic 'Casualties' and the abrasive white noise on 'Ausgang Zum Himmel', to the punchy breaks and dramatic strings of 'No Control', re-releasing Command is an essential act of unearthing.

Review: Danzig and Misfits mastermind Glenn Danzig stepped out solo for this superb cassette release that has had fans fawning. It's a suitably spectacular sequel to the first part of the Black Aria series that was originally released in 2006 and is seen as one of his most audacious ever works. It finds Danzig extends his band's already ambitious, classically-themed project with this time the infamous Lilith, the first wife of Adam, as the main theme. The cover is a super one that features an illustration by the well known Marvel comic artist Bill Sienkiewicz. All in all, a vital reissue of a metal classic.

Review: Chaos Rocks, the fourth album from Alan Davey's Hawkestrel project, continues the forward-looking trajectory initiated by The Future Is Us five years ago. The record maintains the project's tradition of star-studded collaborations. Notably, former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor joins in, lending his guitar prowess to tracks alongside legends like Bob Calvert and Nik Turner. While 'Evil Rock' features Calvert's classic vocal from his Hype LP, the numbers with Turner and Huw Huw Lloyd-Langton offer fresh material. Davey sheds light on the inclusion of unreleased recordings, explaining that Turner's contributions were recorded six years ago, while Cleopatra Records secured the rights to Lloyd-Langton's guitar playing. Review: Second time around for Cosmic Assault, Californian guitar god and sometime Chrome member Barry Johnson's ninth album as Helios Creed. Something of a hard-to-pigeonhole classic, the album combines his ravaged and acid-fried hard rock and psychedelic metal sound with elements of industrial music, horror soundtrack style synths, and all manner of decidedly cosmic and intergalactic sounds. As a result, the set attractively veers from intense, mind-man gling workouts rich in heavy riffs and elongated guitar solos ('Cosmic Assault', 'Rise'), exotic excursions ('The Master'), and more immersive explorations of the outer reaches of the aural universe.

Review: Jah Wobble has taken his musicianship far and wide since he first rose to prominence in the glory days of post-punk and new wave. He's more readily associated with dub and international musical fusions than rock, but on this new album for Cleopatra he's returned his focus to the spiky energy bursts of his earlier work with Public Image Ltd. Produced with Jon Klein of Siouxsie & The Banshees, A Brief History Of Now covers a lot of ground and revels in allowing all kinds of influences in without losing focus. This is a set of kick ass rock tunes first and foremost, but there's space for subtlety and humour to make sure you know it's Wobble at the controls.
