When it comes to producing off-kilter, experimental avant-jazz, few have quite as impressive a track record as Joshua Abrams. On Simultonality, his first album for two years, the bass player is accompanied by newly formed backing band Natural Information Society. The resultant set is heady and exotic, with the assembled players effortlessly joining the dots between free-jazz, droning post-rock, avant-garde grooves and the kind of fluid, chiming melodies more often associated with new age ambient music.
