The offering showcases U Brown's inimitable voice and socially conscious lyrics, addressing contemporary issues with wisdom and conviction. Backed by a stellar cast of musicians, including the Roots Radics and Irie Ites All Stars, the album delivers a potent dose of classic reggae sounds, reminiscent of 70s roots albums. Guest appearances from reggae luminaries like Eek A Mouse, Cornell Campbell, and Frankie Paul add further depth and excitement to this already impressive collection. Review: Since appearing on Gorillaz fifth album, Humanz, in 2017, Kali Uchis has been on an upward trajectory. Now a major international star with a quartet of major label backed solo albums to her name, the Colombian American rapper and singer arrives at album number five, Sincerely, at the peak of her powers. Inspired in part by an unexplained "life-altering event", the set's lyrics explore "the complexities of life" and her desire to "find joy in life despite of the world". In truth, it's more joy than pain, with Uchis gravitating towards head-nodding, string-laden grooves, r&b-influenced pop, guitar-laden trip-hop torch songs, and immersive, dream-like soundscapes.

Review: In classic jazz style, this collaborative three-way debut album brings together three musicians at the top of their game: SML members Gregory Uhlman (guitar and effects) and Josh Johnson (saxophone and effects), and sometime Louis Cole, Sam Gendel and Chaka Khan collaborator Sam Wilkes (bass and effects). Musically, what the trio offers is undeniably unique, with International Anthem describing the album as "a jazz-informed take on progressive electro-acoustic chamber music". Certainly, there's much to enjoy, from the tracked bass, guitar and sax loops and subtle changes of 'Mavis' and the dreamlike ambient jazz of 'Arpy', to the bubbling cosmic jazz of 'Frica' and a stunning, off-kilter instrumental cover of Magical Mystery Tour-era Beatles number 'The Fool On The Hill'.

Review: A bumper crop of oddities and deep cuts from UK Subs' bountiful back catalogue. From opener- a bizarre cover of Khachaturian's 'Sabre Dance' to 'NRA Jingle' a charmingly cringe jingle for Bay Area's New Red Archives label, the subs show their diversity, with the almost Cramps-esque warble of tracks like 'Motivator' giving way to the borderline emo thrash of 'Postcard from LA' and the outright weirdness of jangly sketches like 'Nico'. Definitely a must for any UK Subs enthusiast looking to triangulate the band's more well-known works!

Review: This 2024 edition of Lament by Ultravox is a comprehensive, end-all-others 7CD + DVD deluxe edition expander including a (you won't believe) 72 tracks, with a newly remastered version of the album alongside a fresh 1980s-style extended remix. The seventh studio album by British new wave pioneers, Lament marked the final appearance of original drummer Warren Cann until the band's reunion in 2012 with Brilliant. But despite the name and the grievous context, the album was hardly lachrymose in sound, and it achieved much commercial success, owing to a prosperous prior experience with producers Conny Plank and George Martin, who drove its lush Chrysalis synthpop sound. Aforementioned remixes include contributions from Moby, Steve Wilson, Blank & Jones, and Midge Ure, while a newly mixed full concert recorded at Hammersmith Odeon in 1984 comes stapled in at the end. This set includes 18 albums (with the final album being a double CD), each housed in a replica of its original sleeve. Umiliani's contributions were pivotal in shaping the Italian sound in jazz, film, and library music. Review: Z Records proudly presents volume 3 in its 90s house and garage compilation series, this time presented by Jeremy Underground, a man who should need no introduction when it comes to all things house and garage. Underground (assuming that is his real surname) shares his third house selector's compilation on this one, digging deep, deep inside his record collection, making a spectacle of his ability to decide, to delimit, to include, to exclude, to tastefully separate sonic wheat from chaff. As has become obviated by this series, some of these knocky 2-steppers - these garagey housers - are to here be released on one flavor filled CD & vinyl compilation. So attune your ears to its private exclusivist 2-step grooves; avariciously launch your energies at the attainment of mid-2020s UK garage DJ royalty, till your forefingers and thumbs bleed from all the spindle pinching.

Review: Karl Hyde and Rick Smith continue to offer-up remastered CD reissues of gems from Underworld's vast back catalogue. Here they return to 1996's Second Toughest In The Infants, a set - co-produced with then third member Darren Emerson - which cemented their growing status as one of British electronic music's true headline attractions. While not as admired as its predecessor, it remains a fantastic full-length excursion - an inventive and frequently inspired collection of peak-time-ready epics that borrow liberally from progressive house, techno and spacey drum & bass (see 'Banstyle/Sappy's Curry'). It also contains a number of genuine stunners, not least the bustling 'Confusion The Waitress', the acid-fired insanity of 'Rawla', and the trance-inducing early morning hypnotism of 'Air Towel'.

Review: Recorded and released after the crossover success of 'Born Slippy [Nuxx]', Beaucoup Fish remains Underworld's most commercially successful album. The third and final set to be recorded with then third member Darren Emerson, it has fewer rough edges and in-your-face grooves than its predecessors whilst still retaining the band's rave-igniting sound of the 1990s. Now remastered and reissued on CD for the first time since 2017, it's a set that has aged well. For proof, check the woozy slipped deep house of 'Cups', the breakbeat-powered, acid-fired peak-time insanity of 'Shudder/King of Snake', the rushing release of 'Push Upstairs', the heady ambient bliss of 'Skym' and the drum & bass-influenced warmth of 'Something Like Mama'.

Review: To celebrate Midge Ure's 70th birthday and his remarkable seven decades in music, he delivered a spectacular sold-out concert at London's Royal Albert Hall, showcasing a rich tapestry of his career. This 3CD set captures the full concert, divided into four sets: an acoustic set, an electric set, the complete performance of the Ultravox classic album Vienna and an encore filled with greatest hits. With the support of his long-time band Electronica and special guests Caroline Dale and Ty Unwin, Ure's performance was both nostalgic and electrifying. Newly mixed by Richard Whittaker, the setlist features a host of unforgettable tracks, including Ultravox staples like 'Reap the Wild Wind', 'Hymn' and the iconic 'Vienna'. The inclusion of his #1 hit 'If I Was' and Visage's timeless 'Fade to Grey' adds to the nu-romantic essence that Ure helped define. This collection is a testament to Ure's enduring legacy, celebrating his evolution as an artist while thrilling fans with a blend of emotional ballads and energetic anthems. It's a fitting tribute to a career that has profoundly influenced the music landscape.

Review: User.Exp's first release on Greyscale Recordings provides a thoughtful sonic exploration, made up of field recordings, contact and hydrophone mic sessions and shortwave transmissions (either generated from scratch or really recorded). Artist and label are met with serendipity and ease here; though many releases have hit the Greyscale stocks - all working well within their trademark sonic and visual monochrome - User.Exp's latest is an especially congruent record, bringing crackly burrs and earthen movements to an album that feels large in scope and difficult to pigeonhole, yet intuitively felt. As if to describe a set of 12 different microbiomes - all besieged by a black-and-white, ecosystemic blight - the likes of 'Pollution', 'Erosion' and 'Wind' provide indications enough as to the set of ideas going in here. A deeply calming release, full of textural intricacies and yet not without a creeping sense of unbalance too.
