JJ Dreams Of Nippon (4:18)
Expression (feat Amp Fiddler) (4:04)
Attack! (4:59)
Modified (5:18)
Review: Last year certainly felt like one where a new generation of Detroit heroes came of age, even if some of them having been hard at it for the best part of two decades. Kyle Hall is obviously at the forefront of that wave and as such, many of his finer past moments will be in need of represses to reach a newly expanded pubic. This is one such case, equally big on rough edged rhythm as it on soul from opener 'JJ Dreams Of Nippon' to 'Expression' featuring Amp Fiddler, the beat bumps of 'Attack!' and the loosely delivered swagger of 'Modified'.

Journey In Satchidananda (6:44)
Blue Nile (8:19)
Review: Manchester's Gondwana Records, run by Matthew Halsall, has been a constant source of good vibes and inspiration. Leaning on a jazz note, most of the material is centred away from the dance floor and yet there is always plenty of movement and joyous rhythm, particularly from Halsall's appearances. Here, we have a reissue of 2015's "Journey In Satchidananda", a majestic wave of jazz flutes, seductive piano keys, in what is an altogether dreamy sort of setting, which is further evolved on the supremely euphoric waves of the unbeatable "Blue Nile". At last, some contemporary jazz on 12" that has left us blown away..!

Harmonious Thelonious - "Harmony Labelle"
Harmonious Thelonious - "Kwaku"
Harmonious Thelonious meets Ben Zabo - "Danna" (HT remix)
Review: Following his critically acclaimed work on Glitterhouse and Glitterbeat, long-standing Malian instrumentalist Zabo hooks up with Stefan Schwander for a truly harmonious groove showdown. "Harmony Labelle" is a hypnotic, loopy affair that builds with tribal drama while "Kwaku" takes a series of spiralling marimbas and guitars and fuses them into a techno cycle that's so smooth you don't know where the loop starts or ends. Finally HT remixes "Danna" by taking a stripped back percussive rhythm and spatters it with heavenly highlife sparkles. Beautiful.

Every Cloud (7:19)
Sometimes It's Like That (6:39)
Perspective (8:13)
Floating Or Sinking (6:48)
Review: Welsh producer Harrison BDP is one of the most prominent house artist's in the game right now. Part of the reason for that is his range - he can do classic deepness as well as cheeky 2strep and big old breakbeats with equal elan. He shows all that on this new one for SITU, opening with the rave sound and dusty breaks of 'Every Cloud' before moving on to 'Sometimes It's Like That,' a sweet and seductive, spaced out house jam with neon keys. 'Perspective' explores a mid-90s tech house sound with frictionless drums and hi hats and 'Floating Or Sinking' then closing out on a fat bottomed and dubby roller.

Forgive You (4:23)
Come Closer (3:39)
Review: Band on the Wall Recordings continues to assert its young self with a third fine EP, this time from Mali Hayes. The Manchester-based neo-soul singer and songwriter shows off her pirouetting vocal style on 'Forgive You' as synths swirl around and a flurry of drums and percussion bring a sense of tension. Cult Architect & Medikul feature on the tune which is as intense as soul gets. On the flip is the much more stripped back and vulnerable 'Come Closer' with simple acoustic guitar chords the only distraction from Hayes's distinctly British soul sound.

Canopic Jar (acappella) (3:58)
Review: Brainfeeder serves up this new 12" from Hiatus Kaiyote which finds them diving ever deeper into their own idiosyncratic world of jazzy electronics and expansive grooves. The Australian funk outfit has been nominated twice for a Grammy and their Mood Valiant album was critically acclaimed by all. The pick of this limited green vinyl is the title track 'Canopic Jar' with its lurching beats, twisted guitars and stained lead vocal. It comes as an instrumental and an Capella while the opener 'Journey To The Crystal Tomb' is a short but sweet passage of haunting ambient.

Niemeyer (3:42)
Review: Eric Hilton has an album on the way called Corazon Kintsugi and this is the first taster single from it. It comes on a lovely 7" pink vinyl and the A-side has Natalia Clavier on vocals. The long-term Thievery Corporation collaborator delivers a delicate musing over the lush and Balearic downtempo beats for a most soothing listen. On the flip side is the previously unreleased track 'Niemeyer' which is just as floats light but has a little more of a percussive edge to it as it rolls on infinitely.

Review: The golden oldies are golden for a reason, so there will also be room for them in our collections. And they don't come much more classic that 'Still' on the a side. It features textbook west coast production, with low riding bass and the ice cold keys as well as some fine work from the Dogg . Flip over and keep the party bumping with 'Give It Up', a deep cut rap gem with fantastic samples and cool to spare. They both come on a limited red vinyl for extra spice, too.

Review: The MC was one of a kind. His legend lives on through his work which here gets served up on new label Doom in instrumental form. 'Saffron' (MF instrumental) is a silky late-night sound with warm melancholic chords and subtle boom-bap beats. On the flip, things get more jazzy with the expressive trumpets and more raw broken beat patterns of 'Arrow Root' (MF instrumental). It's a timeless and sophisticated sound that will woo any listener into a calming mood and comes on a limited 7".

Review: New Orleans nine-piece, The Hot 8 Brass Band, return to their breakthrough track. Arguably one of the best Marvin Gaye covers in the history of versions, Tru Thoughts have commissioned a brace of contemporisations and pressed them limited edition gold vinyl: J Felix adds a light-footed P-funk bedrock, Ibibio Sound Machine add a dubby weight to the drums, light synths and a cheeky guitar lick, Maddslinky lays down a straight up house strut, Werkha gets his jazzy shuffle on while Jonny Faith twists up a little Jamaican flavour with a dancehall beat and light skanks. Review: Edit superstar C. Da Afro comes to Super Spicy Records fresh off the back of a series of big outings on labels like Tropical Disco, Samosa Records, Masterworks Music, and many more. Once again this increasingly vital studio whizz comes correct with a series of playful disco house bombs. 'Don't Give Up The Groove' plays with filters, layers up the funky riffs and soars on a diva vocal. 'Wantin' U' is a classic house tune with authentic old school production chops and 'Holding On' is a super sweet outside party tune for the warmer months. 'The Solo Groove' sends you home on some feel good strings that melt any heart.

Review: Opolopo is the alias of Hungarian born, Stockholm-based producer Peter Major. He's no stranger to G.A.M.M. having garnered several releases on it in recent years, and this might be one of his most exciting yet. Here he lends his Midas touch to two classics by legend Herbie Hancock; on the first side he turns 'Butterfly' into a lo-slung late night groove that makes for proper mood music, while over on the flip there's a right dancefloor heater in the form of a seriously funked-up tweak of 'Hang Up Your Hang Ups'.

Review: COLDWAVE/SYNTH: Bruce Haack has remained something of a long term fancy for Stones Throw boss Peanut Butter Wolf over the years, with the 2010 reissue of Farad - The Electric Voice complemented by appearances from the prolific Canadian composer in numerous PBW mixes over the years. And now the label presents this sublime set of remixes which cast the likes of Prince Language, James Pants, Vex Ruffin and Peanut Butter Wolf himself in the role of revising material from Haack's acclaimed 1970 LP Electric Lucifer, along with its follow-up Electric Lucifer, Book II and material from various other releases from Haack that surfaced over the years. The Prince Language remix of "Party Machine" and an absolute freak beat monolith version of "Chant Of The Sun" by the Pants man stand out, but the whole thing is dripping in that Stones Throw quality.

Review: Back in 2014, veteran Kiwi saxophonist and flautist Nathan Haines joined forces with regular collaborators Mike Patto, Vanessa Freeman and 4 Hero's Marc Mac on a limited-edition album called "5 a Day". Four years on, he's assembled the same team to re-record and remix it. The results are, for the most part, spectacular. Rooted in jazz-funk but also incorporating elements of boogie, hip-hop, nu-jazz and samba, "Zoot Allure" offers a near perfect balance of sunny vibes, expert musicianship, great songs and memorable dancefloor grooves. The latter aspect is emphasized by the presence of two superb, club-ready reworks of album highlight "Got Me Thinking" by Opolopo and West London broken beat legends Bugz In The Attic.

Review: Since he released his first album 11 years ago, bandleader, trumpeter and composer Matthew Halsall has proved to be one of British jazz's standout talents. In recent years he's delved into soul-jazz and big band jazz territory, so it's intriguing to find that "Oneness" is a much more spiritual, pared-down and minimalistic affair. Using a mixture of droning Indian instrumentation, languid and leisurely harp motifs, selective horn solos, melancholic trumpet lines and occasional traditional jazz instrumentation, Halsall has conjured up a series of meditative pieces that count among his most beguiling works to date. It may surprise a few listeners, but many more will find it enchanting, otherworldly and emotion-rich.

Review: The sound of Rux's Good Bread Alley features a scaled down sound of live acoustic piano, upright bass, and drums. It's blue-scape brings to mind Son House, Bob Dylan, Nico & The Velvet Underground, as well as the southern fried soul of Bill Withers. If Rux's previous efforts left music critics aesthetically pleased yet full of questions like is it hip hop? Is it r&b? Is it electronica? Is it spoken word? Or is it nu soul? "Good Bread Alley" takes a simpler, less cluttered approach to the artists, often difficult to categorize music. With ten tracks of haunting melodies, beautiful lyrics and Rux's signature lush hypnotic baritone that is often described as a powerful vocal artistry somewhere between Hendrix, Scott-Heronand & Jim Morrison - a voice capable of transfixing or lulling you to sleep. "Good Bread Alley" features collaborations with Vernon Reid ("Lies") Ocean's 11 DJ David Holmes ("Living Room") also features a stellar Bill Withers Cover ("I Can't Write Left Handed").

Review: Much has changed for violinist, composer and singer-songwriter Bev Lee Harling since the release of her acclaimed debut album, Barefoot In Your Kitchen, nine years ago. It's these changes - parenthood, family life, the difficulty of retaining artistic creativity and vision when it plays second fiddle to other life commitments - that inspired Little Anchor, a sophomore album recorded at different times and places over the last decade. First and foremost, the song is full of superb songs with plenty to say, with Harling's distinctive vocal delivery being joined by imaginative musical arrangements (her violin is naturally present throughout) and production that variously touches on soul, future synth-pop, jazz and dreamy electronica.

Review: Hearin' Aid is left ear, Aaron Phiri, a conjure man also known as Zulu Gestapo, last of the Gris Gris men, and right ear Damon Frost also referred to as D-Frost, the Rubberband Man aka Midi Amin. Los Angeles born emcee/producer/drummer /faith healer Damon grew up in Hawaii, two kilometres from Mount Waialiali, coincidentally the wettest spot on the planet, and Berkley, home of the people's power hippie movement of the 70s, a few blocks from Fantasy Records! The Rubberband's dance career led him to Stockholm in 1986. Self taught musician and spell casting druid Aaron was born in Lusaka, Zambia, the land that lends its name from the mighty Zambezi River, to a church deacon mother and a speech writer for the president father! Upon being teleported to England to be colonised, he was possessed by verse. Unable to exorcise this spirit it led him to Stockholm, Sweden in 1990 where he was signed to WEA at a mere age of 17, much to his once head of intelligence fathers chagrin! He earned himself a formidable reputation as a prolific free style MC, and fronted, guest and wrote with a variety of ensembles. Their influences comprise a gumbo of New Orleans second line rhythms, Audio Two productions, James Browns intestines, essence of Blastmaster KRS-One and various gospel seasonings. It is made manifest in their remix of Swedish songstress Linn's "Available", their own "Let Eet Ought EP" and in their explosive live performances.

Review: The Hi Fly Orchestra means all-acoustic jazz with a totally infectious and heavy dance groove that always gets the crowd on the floor. The group has an ear for the great sound of 60's jazz, Latin and samba. There's a good variety of styles on the album. It's a melting pot of funky Latin tunes, driving basslines, original compositions with a strong Brazilian touch, pulsating beats and percussion breaks reminiscent of 60's and 70's sounds that Tarantino would have used for the "Jackie Brown" soundtrack, if it had only been recorded back then. There's even an unusual cover of "Soul Bossa Nova", the Quincy Jones classic.

Review: A little more than two years after the release of her debut album 'Restless Times', Clara Hill steps ahead with 'All I Can Provide'. While her first album was an excursion into the depths of electronic soul, 'All I Can Provide' is furthering her vocal journeys while mirroring the various musical styles that Clara is passionate about. Naturally, there's a broad range of genres to be found: Deep house and boogie, jazz ballads as well as folk oriented songs vibrate on 'All I Can Provide'. It's a bit like listening to a excellent mix tape, with Clara's splendid voice as the mistress of ceremony. 'For All I Can Provide' she has collaborated with such renowned artists as Atjazz, Vikter Duplaix, Charles Webster, Slope, Sandboy (Tobias Meggle), Volker Meitz and Georg Levin. Except for the tracks produced by Atjazz, Sandboy, Vikter Duplaix, Charles Webster and King Britt, most of the album's other tracks were co-produced by Clara Hill. Previous collaborators of Clara Hill include Jazzanova and Masters At Work. Clara Hill has also sung for Stereoton.

And here it is in all its glory... Sleazy, smoky, smoochy and, at points, gosh darn seductive, Hoyle's taken the whole album and reinterpreted it with contemporary glee. From the space-destined electro and timpani fusion of "Bocoche" to the lead track (that features as well known hip-hop lick) "Canto De Xango" via the snake-like steel guitar string hypnosis of "Tempo De Amor" this unique dedication resonates with decade-leaping, continent-bounding glee.
