Review: With over 15 years of history behind it, Detroit's Cryovac label is run by producer Andy Garcia - who also happens, conveniently enough, to be an employee of the local pressing plant, Archer Record Pressing. They've released countless V/A and split 12"s, inevitably of high quality, with this one being no exception. Divided between Drivetrain on Side-1 and a certain A Garcia & M Kretsch on Side-2, it achieves a dynamic equilibrium between foundational Motor City sounds and inventive exploration and innovation. Drivetrain's '3am' is a driving electro-infused track that merges funky rhythms with melodic touches, crafting an atmosphere that is futuristic and engaging. 'Discipline' follows, bringing a raw, classic techno energy that feels timeless, with its steady groove serving as a reminder of the genre's impactful origins. The flip sees Garcia & Kretsch delve into different sonic territories. 'Ai_me' pulses with influences from Detroit and Chicago's late 80s underground, delivering a rhythm that's robust and propulsive. Rounding out the EP is 'Squeaker', a brooding piece that creates an unsettling yet intriguing landscape, blending eerie tones with an alien-like ambiance. Review: Once again, Frenk Dublin dabbles in dub and muses on spacetime hardcore continuums with his latest release for the highbrow techno collective Arts, based in Rotterdam. From the off of 'Chord Dancer' and 'The Lost Realm', we feel only lightly electromagnetically convected, with tonic melodics and pleasing phonic physics rattling against and past our ears. It's only at the turn of the B-side that we hear anything remotely less salutary, with 'Time & Space' preferring a mood of deep-space vacuity, and 'Sapphire Dub' advancing, at an ever glacial pace, through ejected fields of chord residua and rimshot-kick impact events. Closer 'Inspected' unsettles rather than resolves any remaining tension, its monotone echo blurts suggesting more to come.

Review: Vladimir Dubyshkin is a mainstay of Nina Kraviz's Trip label and for good reason. HIs sounds embody the musical MO of the imprint in perfect fashion. This time out he again mixes up a wild sphere of sound from hardcore to rave to acid. 'No Tell Motel' is a bonkers but brilliant tune with fairground energy, pulling techno beats and characterful spoken word vocals that will get supersized crowds going wild. 'Noodle Soup' is a punchy breakbeat workout, then 'Paranoid Thoughts' sinks into a linear, banging, straight-up techno roller with hits to die for. There is a twisted and textured synth tension to 'Ticket To Childhood' that's offset with innocent melodies. Great stuff.

Review: Kazerne is a label that deals in techno with no punches pulled. It's heart-of-the-dance floor, warehouse-ready tackle that fires every synapse in your body. Alexey Dunchyk very much taps into that aesthetic with his Dark Therapy EP. 'Uncontrolled Emotion' is dark and driving techno with caustic textures and walloping great hits. 'Barmaley' is a menacing and sludgy subterranean ouster will all manner of sleazy sound designs and 'Doom Mantra' then locks you into a tunnelling bit of automated looped techno. There is more wildness to the drum patterns of 'Specific Objects' and a pure bit of bunker funk defines 'Crime Planning'.

Review: Acquit is a super under-the-radar label that has been making some great moves in recent times. DX 9's 'Incoming Signal' is further proof of that. It's a Detroit-referencing techno outing with the sort of chord work that gets you lost deep in through while the bulky drums lock you into an intergalactic trip. The G-Prod remix brings prickly and kinetic electro beats, while the Taho remix is awash with celestial synth work and cosmic melody. 'Decoded Signal 1' is a final original that has more kick and but still plenty of machine soul. This sweet 10" is limited to 200 copies so move fast.

Review: The fledgling Detach label continues to show it means business with a new 12" in a lovely screen-printed sleeve. Romanian artist Dyl is the one in charge and has been serving up consistently excellent and innovative sounds now for serval years. All of these cuts mix up great sound design with languid rhythms - the first is eerie, with watery droplets and glassy tinkles hanging in the air, while 'Glasshouse 2' has a percolating rhythm down low. 'Glasshouse 3' gets a little more dynamic with a shimmering low end and freaky abstract life forms and 'Glasshouse 4' layers in more intense and ever-shifting synth lines while the closer sounds like it's roaming through a deserted factory long after it shut down.

There is a real sense of control to the opener 'Lyra' despite its forward motion and punchy kicks, while 'Vaulting' gets much wilder and looser with its manic synth lead and raw onset of percussive pressure. Switching up things once more, 'Parallel' is a dubby techno tool and 'Shimmer' reverts to the careful tweaking of a deft lead synth over incendiary beats. 'Radiant' and 'Meraki' bring more raved-up and bouncy peak-time techno fun. This is a very useful and varied 12".

Review: A Pleistocene Future may be one in which we regress to an epoch that begun almost 2.58 million years ago, but that doesn't deter the eponymous label from imagining such throwbacks as advantageous, nor from continuing to hook up mad amphibious techno jawns from producer duo Dyanmic Forces. Made up of two Brunos, Di Berardino and Ruggieri, Dynamic Forces make their Pleistocene debut here, springboarding off of four similarly rugged 2024 EPs for a fifth, wet and wriggling new four-tracker. The show-stealers on this one are 'Resolve' and 'Holding Out', both flipside aerators that wield an effortless sonic blend, adding squeezings of bandpassed bruxism, niggling arp goodness and a dash of techno industrial complexity.

Review: Dynamic Forces' The Pain To Refuse on TH Tar Hallow is a stellar homage to late 90s techno. Side-1 opens with 'Refuse' (String mix), featuring a heavy beat complemented by dramatic strings reminiscent of Purpose Maker's epic sound. 'Self Surrender (MStr-1ng)' follows with classic UK techno vibes akin to Surgeon. On Side-2 there is 'Raw Voltage Rhythms,' a track focused on heavy rhythms and chord-driven warehouse techno. Closing the EP is 'Helix,' the darkest of the bunch, offering a brooding and intense atmosphere. Each track perfectly captures the essence of 90s techno flavours.

Review: Rotterdam label Planet Rhythm has snapped up some searing tech from relative newcomers Dynamic Forces here. The electrifying duo are one again not mucking about here as they serve up some pumping techno bangers that have a playful heart and plenty of great designs buried deep in their unrelenting grooves. 'New Set Up' for example is backlit by a nice heavenly synth glow and 'Plague' is a real head wrecker with twisted leads and super sized hi hats. 'Tango' is a minimal number that moves like a cat on a hot tin roof and seems to get ever quicker throughout.

Review: Strap in for some no-nonsense old school techno with new school production vales here as Dynamic Forces combine for a devastatingly effective four tracker. There is real power in the drum and twitchy synth details of 'Directions' and bumping, twisted, raved up menace defines 'Old Bite' with its barrage of drums and synths. Somehow they manage to find yet another gear with the intense percussive loops and panel-beaten drums of 'TRSR' while 'Substance' gets more freaky with edgy synth motifs darting abut a dark and dense techno groove.

Review: The House Of Web is a new project that brings together music with a range of international origins across two EPs. They feature material originally by Takuya Sogimoto on this label in 2020 and 2022 as well as some unreleased cuts from 1994 and 1995. Dynamo Dreesen & Robotron go first as Dynatron ahead of a debut solo EP on SUED that is due soon. Then comes Dresvn aka Dynamo Dreesen & SVN, YPY aka Koshiro Hino from Osaka and a member of the Japanese band Goat, plus the next level beat maker A Made Up Sound. All four of these cuts offer superbly fresh takes on techno.

Review: Daniel Stefanik and Andre Galluzzi team up for four new, lost-highwayed night-drives in techno form. Debuting for Gregor Tresher's Frankfurt label Break New Soil, the likes of 'Passages' and 'Don't Panic' lay down both fertile techno grounds and noxious synthetic fogs, adding up to a compellingly bleak picture of the many motorways that encircle the German city. 'Out Of The Past' and its remix from Pan-Pot are its highlights; these are two uplifting tech-trance versions that satisfy the moods of both ill-advised partying and ring-road hurtling.

Review: Fierce electronic mavericks LNS & DJ Sotofett deliver a thrilling two-tracker that's built for serious warehouse action. The A-side is a teeth-clenching, bassline-driven beast that is raw, gritty and euphoric with static rhythms, stabbing synths and a halftime arpeggio breakdown that erupts into dreamy pads. On the flip, DJ Sotofett's 'Buzzy Breaker' starts minimal with just kicks, stabs and dubs, then morphs into a breakbeat monster with polyrhythmic tension and soaring pads underpinned with jungle-inflected drops. Both tracks harness deep, hypnotic repetition while sounding bold and system-ready so make for techno with real weight but also edge and purpose that results in high class DJ and dancer tackle.

Review: Chris Liberator's experimental techno label Maximum/Minimum forms part of the Stay Up Forever Collective umbrella, which has been going for a heck of a long time (since 1995-ish), charting untouched terrains of teratological UK hardcore techno. An offshoot imprint dedicated to the "creative corruptions" of the Stay Up Forever crew, Liberator and co. would originally release these ones without catalogue numbers, that is until the market beseeched them to behave more conventionally. Now, well past their 65th V/A release, comes their latest, a decapitatory pummeller fronted by Sonico's 'Did You Say Acid?' and Zyco Seon's 'Citric Frequencies'.

Review: 59 Bel is back with another transmission from its HQ in Paris and again it's an interesting take on techno. Ian Maur opens with a minimal cut that is urgent and hurried yet barely there. Deluka brings some sci-fi imagery to the loopy sounds of 'My Underground' and Louis The 4th takes off on dry, glitchy minimal beats on the serene 'Ongoing Motifs.' Model HZ's 'Render' is a more synth-laced bit of classically inclined techno and Askkin's 'Life Spectator'' comes full circle with another eerie, sparse sound for freaking out late-night dancers.

Ramon Tapia leads the motorcade with 'Friction', a stabbing aerator full of overtop claps and rims, while Louis Lp's 'Radioactivity' unsettles with its seething high ringing and affectively isolated chord-stab-melody. Review: Eindhoven underground acidcore distributor and label Flatlife generate yet another mind-melter for the nitty masses, supercolliding tracks by four of the foremost DJs come sound-summoners on the subterranean scene. Flatlife have dispatched rapid-response rave Apaches since 2009, and A-siders 'Septic' and 'Lord Of Darkness' bring a fittingly mid-noughts feel to things, during which time the roughage of hard dance fused with the encroaching gloss and finesse that came with digital sound tech that defined the decade. The mood is horrific, with 'Saure' climaxing to apocalyptic, territorial levels through waspish yamps and kick crushings, while the aggro is not lost on the ensuing 'Out Of Order', somehow the most relaxed of the four.

Review: Los Angeles mainstay and famed techno practitioner Truncate has joined forces with Chicago legend DJ Hyperactive for a first-ever collaborative EP. The results are fascinating from the first beat: 'Universal Function' is an anxiety-riddled deep techno pumper, 'Trust The Process' is laced with cosmic synths and an eerie sense of the unknown and 'Space Shuffle' is more jacked, with raw drums and punchy kicks topped by manic synth squiggles. Last of all is a heady soundscape in 'Matter Of Time' with its dusty hi-hats and frictionless drums.

Review: A quick piping of ultrafast space-techno comes as a six-track aural electro-techno drip, courtesy of Berlin's Mechatronica Music. The second in their 'Constellations' series of V/A EPs, this is an exodic exultation, charting top farings from the likes of Umwelt, Ben Pest and Viikatory. Umwelt's opening charge 'Stellar Oscillations' is a warpsped drive back to the retrofuture, with punctured stabs and fractal chord efferents propelling a lengthy trance crissing 'cross the milky way. Pest's 'Shodan' takes a detour, recharging at an interstellar traction substation specialising in sputtery, kilowatted electro. And 'Be Scared Of Clowns' is the titular highlight by Prz & Ori bringing a different spaceship to the same docking bay; it is the comparative Borg cube to the A3's Romulan craft, lessening any residual humanity for a shocking laserdesign B cut.

Review: Planet Rhythm's third transmission is another various artists' affair that takes no prisoners. This is straight-ahead techno that is proud of its perfect planed linear loops and ability to get you in a mediative head space. Erdem Yetim kicks off with the seriously weighty 'Perfect Silence' and its panel-beaten loops. Simone Tavazzi's 'Pyramid' is another hefty kicker with icy hi hat ringlets and fleshy drums while 'Das Ego' is as good as reductive dub techno gets. Dave Simon hits the nail on the head with his 'Dubby Stomper.'
