Luv N Luv (limited hand-numbered 7")
Cat: DAC 017. Rel: 21 Jan 14
Luv N Liv (Dub Gabriel None Shall Escape The dub mix)
Luv N Liv (Ming vs Subatomic Sound System remix)
Review: Highly limited and sonically stunning, this special 7" taken from Gabriel's Raggabass Resistance album, neither of these versions have seen the light of day before. And, according to the label, they're not likely to see it after this limited press. Gabriel's own version is authentic dub to the very core: rich organic instrumentation, a huge spacious bass and full emphasis on the groove. Dim Mak's Ming and Lee Perry's own Subatomic Sound System provide the contemporary version; squidgy, squelchy and full of surprises, it's a neat reminder of dubstep's innate funkiness. We're luvin' it!

Militant Dub
Cat: ISS 036. Rel: 05 May 16
Militant Dub (3:05)
Dub The Bass (3:07)
Review: Uprising Sounds returns to Indica with a powerful original and even heavier version. "Militant Dub" leads heavily on the main synth line that's almost oriental in its allure and mysticism. As the title suggests, the rhythm is persistent and just on the right side of rigid to maintain the essential funk. "Dub The Bass" is a much deeper exploration of the low end as the warping bass is allowed to turn itself inside out as the track progresses. Standard Indica procedure: only 500 have been pressed.

First Offensive EP
Cat: CLDUB 001. Rel: 23 Aug 06
Track 1
Track 2
Track 3
Track 4
Review: From Leviathan half step to syncopated aggression, this four track EP presents unique perspectives on every angle of the new underground sound. Whether its grimey dubstep, dubby grime or just heavyweight bassline music is entirely up to the listener. This is the first time on wax for all of the artists featured but they have all made a name for themselves since the early inception of this sound through a long line in underground dubs and DJ appearances. With all four tracks already well represented on Rinse FM, Blaze Live and 1Xtra pirate sessions and receiving support from DJs Chef, Heny G, Underground Ice, Gutterbreaks and Scientist to name a few, this is set to be the first in a series of uncompromising instrumental eps, fresh from the UK underground, for the bass driven dancefloors of the world. This is the first fully independent release for Clandestine Cultivations, but the organisation has been running for almost 4 years now, providing production for releases by Banana Klan and Deadly Connections amongst others and recently running Brighton's main dubstep dance Dubpressure, just coming up to its first year. Clandestine was formed in London four years ago by Unlikely, Dom and Crooked Man who in 2004 found a new base of operations in Brighton where the team has since been joined by Clockwork, Kion and Letitia. As well as further releases and promotions within Dubstep/Grime and Hip-hop, look out for further ventures into the worlds of electronica, jazz, folk, punk, industrial and all manner of media from a label that aims to eventually represent any form of uncompromising music.

U Brown - "Rougher Than The Rest" (4:02)
Jah Warrior - "Rougher Dub" (3:49)
Review: Seafront International returns with some classic roots sounds from U Brown with a dub from Jah Warrior. Recorded at Conscious Sounds studio in London 2001, the sounds are stripped down to raw bass and drum dynamics by producer Jah Warrior who was clearly intent on allowing his work to be a personal platform for U Brown to offer up his own lyrical expressions and his musical messages. It's a track delivered with energy and serious focus and will sound best nice and loud.

Rez (Bassnectar remix)
Review: There are stone cold classics that really don't need touching. "Rez" has been in that category since it was first released in 1993... Many have attempted but none have succeeded. Until now thanks to US's finest bass export Bassnectar. Paying total respect to the original cascading ricochet riff he adds his trademark swagger-drums and lets the build-up do all the talking. Then along comes the drop and those synths take "Rez" kicking and screaming into the future. Congratulations Bassnectar, you've achieved the impossible.

The Theme (Autechre remix)
The Theme (Zilla remix)
Review: Fat! Records are proud to announce the re-release of Unique 3's classic bleep & bass anthem ,"The Theme". A pioneering record that can easily lay claim to influencing the likes of Warp Records, The Chemical Brothers, LFO, most of the first wave of drum & bass producers and many, many more. Put simply, it was a seminal moment in dance music history! This Fat! release features a remix from the legendary Autechre.

Review: Opting for some artfully woven anonymity for some of their releases, emergent Belfast electronica label Champion Sound offer up another no frills slab of wax with a potent selection of downtempo steppers. There are plenty of familiar reference points here from the pitch-shifted vocals to the mournful pads that exist in the Burial inspired tributary of dubstep, but there's plenty of range to be found on the record, not to mention accomplished production. At times the beat is little more than a heartbeat, at other times rasping and brittle, but always moving in an entirely different way to its counterparts. The mood may remain the same throughout the EP, but it's the drums that make this record worthy of attention.

Chords (4:42)
Review: Limited to 300 copies, Nomine's subtle touch on Massive Attack's "Teardrops" has been a serious moment in the deeper end of the bass scene for crowds who've been lucky to hear it. With the rebuilt drums adding momentum and weight, his less-is-more approach complements the original perfectly. "Chords" plays on the same drum structure but with Nomine's own arrangement and sound. If anything it's more of a tear-jerker than "Teardrop". Who needs a hug right now?

Blue Lights (5:33)
Jazze Belle (5:04)
Review: Hand-stamped white labels are pure bait for vinyl lovers and this one from Unkown Outlaw is no different. It is a devastating pair of deep dubstep cuts with soul to spare. 'Blue Lights' is a cavernous cut with dubby drums and wooden hits that takes oyu to the heart of a dance floor at 5am, when many people ahem left and the sweet smell of THC wafts over the remaining hardcore who are lost in the moment. On the flip, 'Jazze Belle' stutters and swaggers its way home after a big night out with melancholic chords and wispy jazz notes linger in the air above.

Anaconda
Anaconda (12")
Cat: SSSSS 001. Rel: 13 Dec 10
Untold - "Anaconda" (Tribal Guarachero mix)
Dubbel Dutch - "Pulso"
Review: Fresh, crispy new sounds on a new label that comes shrouded in mystery which sees Untold's 2009 standard "Anaconda" get an idiosyncratically unbalanced remix from an unknown/unnamed artist and rising Texan producer Dubbel Dutch. The Tribal Guarachero is allegedly the work of an established producer that aligns Untold with the nascent Mexican 3Ball sound driven by a drunken, off key rhythmic clack that's resolutely impossible to pin down. On the flip, Dubbel Dutch's "Pulso" is equally what the f*ck material, sounding like a twisted refix of grime classic "Pulse X" transposed over an incalculable stuttering time signature. The aforementioned combined with a lusciously packaged sleeve replete with design from Abi Heyneke would hint SSSSS is the work of an established label, but who no one really knows.
