Review: While Frank Zappa and his Mothers of Invention band made deliciously wild, weird and eccentric records, their freewheeling brand of psychedelic, progressive and garage-rock fusion was taken to a whole level in their live performances. It's for this reason that Filimore East, a 1971 live set containing highlights from two shows recorded in the same venue over consecutive nights, is such a fan favourite. To celebrate the 50th (well, now 51st) birthday of the album, we've been treated to a deluxe edition that showcases both shows in full - John Lennon and Yoko Ono-sporting encore included - over six CDs. Rounding off a superb package for fans are recordings of two more shows (CDs 7 and 8), which were recorded in London and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, later the same year. Ace.
