Movable Fields (Kara-Lis Coverdale remix) (5:00)
Nachholbedurfnis (Beatriz Ferreyra remix) (5:47)
Review: Tape Reworks Vol. 2 is the new 12" remix edition of the 2021 album Tape Works Vol. 1 (2021), by the UK's leading musique concrete ensemble Langham Research Centre. With the latter album following up the introductory Tape Works Vol. 1 (2017), which recollected the group's earliest experiments, the second album focused entirely on more recent, original splicings, cuttings and respoolings of the former modernist statement. Now, in turn, come two new remixes of the project by Kara Lis Coverdale and Beatriz Ferreyra, the former of 'Movable Fields' and the latter of 'Nachholbedurfnis'. Coverdale's version is an arresting, looming abstraction, capturing a sense of cosmic loneliness through exoplanetary whistles and deep subs gleaned from the original album's pickups of brutalist buildings; Ferreyra's is jerkier and stranger in palate, utilising glassy transitional sound effects and rapid, sped-up-slowed-down warbles.

Profecia (6:02)
Nocturna (6:06)
Fetiche (6:19)
Vamp Love (6:07)
Review: Lanzieri's latest release, Profecia, embarks on a journey through the realms of early 90s-influenced techno, showcasing a diverse array of sounds and atmospheres. On Side-1 'Profecia' harkens back to the early days of rave with its nostalgic techno vibe, invoking the spirit of the culture with its pulsating beats and infectious energy. Following suit, 'Nocturna' transports listeners into space with its ethereal soundscape, weaving together spooky elements that beckon to the dancefloor. Flipping to Side 2, 'Fetiche' dives into the depths of heavy acid sounds, creating a trancey atmosphere that is both eerie and sci-fi inspired. The track has a relentless hypnotic rhythm and otherworldly ambiance, drawing listeners into its sonic abyss. Closing the EP, 'Vamp Love' offers a journey into the unknown with its out-of-this-world sounds, pushing the boundaries of techno with its innovative approach. Overall, another strong techno release for this French label.

Repetition (5:39)
Review: The cultured Attic Music crew is back with more sumptuous techno that comes in a trio of different moods. Fabrizio Lapiana's opener 'Deep' is just that - a warm and smeared and smudged world of serene pads and rolling drums. 'Ritmo Ossessivo' is more intense with distant sirens looping over linear drums which are all topped with chattery percussion. 'Repetition' might be the best of the lot - a deep, hubby, heady, stripped back bit of late night techno perfection.

Review: The MIC label has undoubtedly been one of the best things to happen this year. The London independent kicked off a few months ago with an excellent hidden gem by Mike Collins, a fringe drum machine enthusiast from the 80s, which was a record that we saw as totally unmissable (and one which flew of our shelves like hotcakes!). The imprint is back with LAPS, a cold wave duo who are making similarly stripped-back machine music, except that these two girls have only been around for a few years. This is a great signing from an indie, because it's the sort of crew that will likely be picked up by a bigger label in the future. The duo's sounds linger in mid-air beautifully, from the opening shots and burst of "Gush", to the more dancehall-flavoured chants of the leading "Who Me?", and the pensive twists and turns of "Ode To Daughter". "Edges" oozes a thick bass amid stepping drums, whereas "Lady Bug" offers the only real moment of r&b delight, all filtered through a raw and loose sort of framework. Top stuff. We love this label.

Review: It's pretty hard not to fall in love with Macadam Mambo at first contact. The French label represents the cream of Lyon's underground, a city that has for some time now been a quiet powerhouse of electronic and dance music, developing a reputation for strange, leftfield floor-filling sounds spanning slow burn chug, experimental tropicalism, Balearic and cosmic house.

Enter Axel Larson to prove our point with real precision. L'Ete Noir is an incredible EP, packing a generous six tracks on its wax, all of which are awesome. From the knife-edge atmosphere of poised and percussive rumbler 'Hygiene Du Squelette', to the downtempo joy of a track that feels like it's built largely on the sounds of dripping water and reversed rave keys ('Le Pyromane Du Chateau Rouge'), there are so many layers here you'll be busy for days.

Stato Liminare (4:53)
Review: This fresh four-track EP Reinos Elementales opens with 'El Descenso de Inanna' an electrifying piece featuring dark atmospheres and a powerful rhythm that is simultaneously energetic yet introspective. 'Uroboros' (named after the snake which eats its own tail and is a symbol of the cyclical nature of life) the EP's second track was the first that emerged from the duo's initial jam session and blends cyclical dub sounds with organic elements for a warm, vibrant feel. 'Malachite' delivers a fluid and urgent rhythm perfect for the dancefloor. Closing the EP, 'Stato Liminare' features deep but fractured rhythms and a hypnotic mantra in the composers' native language that creates a magical atmosphere somewhere between reality and the ethereal.

Blue Moon (Tobias remix) (6:49)
Review: Lawrence's Epiphany Remixes, a release from the German record label Giegling, presents four distinct interpretations of the title track. Each remixer brings a unique approach to the original piece, resulting in a diverse and captivating soundscape. Zoe Polanski's version transforms the track into a crystallized melody, creating a cold yet beautiful atmosphere. Lowtec's remix explores deep techno, delivering a smooth and dreamy ambiance with a touch of sadness. M Pittman Ladder's interpretation adds a gritty, chunky bassline, while Tobias' remix elevates the tempo, creating a pulsating and mechanical percussion elements. These remixes showcase the versatility of Lawrence's original composition, demonstrating how different artists can reinterpret and reshape it to create new and engaging experiences.

Review: Short Attention Records makes a welcome return here with a new drop of wax that fits the label head into its roots in deep techno sound worlds. This one takes the form of a various artists' EP crafted with an intake feel for cosy floors and who better to kick off in that vibe than the revered Lawrence whose 'Hawser' is a groovy and melodious track. Next, New Jersey don Joey Anderson sets a slow and deep tone with 'Human Kind' which has moody vocals and Japanese artist Takuya Matsumoto follows with 'Three Flowers', a more potent and driving cut with a fine acid bassline. Rounding off the EP is 'Desired Spring' by R/K, a loop-driven deep house gem designed for both listening and dancing.

On A Rise (6:29)
Free Flight (4:49)
Review: Fresh, cruddy electro dreamatics from mysterious production outfit Lazer Worshippers here, joining the Atmosphere label to stake their claim to their very own 'theme'. A name like Lazer Worshippers gives off vibes of a apparent machine cult with a penchant for building sonic monuments to our AI-mech overlords. The music is similarly vaunting and numinous, with its synthetic choirs and trilling arps dancing between the left and rights like heavenly visions of a mechanized future. B-siders 'On A Rise' and 'Free Flight' are just as teary-eyed, yet bleepy, recalling the entrancing, oldskool breaksy trance work of Spooky or Digital Justice.

Review: LDS takes no prisoners on this blistering new techno workout for Exos' Planet X & X/OZ labels. Opener 'Karplusfunk' is a 100-mile-an-hour assault with caustic hit hats over clipped, kinetic drums. Manic synth lines ride up and down and the energy levels are off the chart. 'Mvoper FM' is slightly paired back but is still warp-speed icy techno to take dance floors on a white knuckle ride through the cosmos. The Exos remix of 'LD5' has snares that sound like sheet metal blowing in the wind while solar clouds peel off the groove. The flip side offers two more cuts of head-melting techno experimentalism.

Review: LDS - or German producer Luca Daniel Schwarz - builds techno like a machine whisperer, programming intricate rhythmic structures that breathe with an uncanny human feel. Stadion Progg is a showcase of his algorithmic finesse, where probability-based sequencing drives hypnotic, shifting grooves that evolve in real-time. 'Pow' and 'Diff, Block Mix' weave dubby textures into pulsating frameworks, while 'Zipp Prompt' jolts forward with clipped vocal stabs and needle-sharp synths. The title track stretches into grand, propulsive territory, amplified further in Jean Redondo's remix, which adds extra layers of kinetic energy. The LDS process is equal parts engineering and intuitionimeticulously constructed yet alive with spontaneity. Stadion Progg is proof that machine-driven music doesn't have to feel mechanical; in the right hands, it moves with instinct.

Delivered by the ever-impressive Yuku collective, the whole EP flexes the spectrum in terms of tempos and influences. Review: Good friends Arnaud Le Texier and Antonio De Angelis have been collaborating for many, many years now. Both long time veterans of the scene, each time they get together, fans get a big treat hearing the results. Peer to peer producer influence drives them to the same high level of what being competitive DJs also does. The Split EP, aptly named, has each producer taking a side of vinyl to themselves to express their current direction. Arnaud Le Texier's 'Chocked' is a no-nonsense warehouse techno banger. Fans of artists like Surgeon or Sandwell District, this is right up your alley. The track 'Discover' has a great liquid groove to it reminding us of classic 90s material off Primate Recordings. For Antonio De Angelis's side, 'Sicario' adds a bit of house elements to this big techno sound while 'Destination' has a great melodic approach to it. For those that say techno is safe and boring, tell them about this record.

Loose Life (Roman Flugel remix) (5:35)

Review: Lea Porcelain, the new wave retroverts from Frankfurt am Main could very well be the next big thing that you've never heard of. The original version of "Loose Life" itself is quite difficult to locate on the interwebs but we're sure it's hard to compete with local legend Roman Flugel's slow burning remix on offer here. Darmstadt's finest Benedikt Frey is onboard too, giving "Similar Familiar" a makeover that's as unique as pretty much all his other work: part techno, part cosmic or even industrial. It's brooding, wall of sound guitars and vocals drowned in reverb battle it out against pounding 909 snare attacks and screeching synth leads. Awesome!

Review: Contemporary tastemakers Geilgling return with a set of remixes of material from Leafar Legov's recent album, Mirror. First up it is German minimal maestro Isolee who flips 'Fade' into some of his signature sounds - smeared synths and abstract designs all weave together over a minimal beat to make for something seductive and late night. Polish loop master Jan Jelinek then flips 'Fade' into a slow motion shuffle with bright, celestial shards of melodic light and downbeat, melancholic vocals over a chugging beat. Last of all is a mix of 'Jing' that is all broken loops, chopped vocal fragments and hallucinogenic synths.

Colourful, characterful and potent for DJs and dancers, this is another essential 12" from the indefatigable synth king, not least because of the great track titles.

For that reason, Clone Records have been digging in them and now offer up 'Slam Jack Deep Chicago Ghetto Technofunk' tracks from the archives and have remastered them for the occasion. Originally crafted in the early 2000s as a tribute to the Yamaha DX synth, these tracks now sound better than ever and will jack any set. This time out he lands on Hotmix with a two-track 10" that kicks off with 'DRUMCOMPUTER GLORY.' It's a warped track with acid tinges, mirky synths, weird vocal samples and jacked-up drums that are raw and proudly old school. On the flip side is 'CASIO CTK630 HOMEKEYBOARD', a snaking groove with hissing hi-hats and more smeared, smudgy synths that make for an unusual but alluring atmosphere.

The title cut 'Vael Method' opens up with squealing electronics and scruffy techno drums all wired up with some elastic synths. The brilliant 'Routine Procedure' is another heavy roller that is run through with paranoid pads and sci-fi bleeps while 'Self Hitting Anvil' is another spitting, menacing mix of rusty sound designs and malfunctioning electronics over linear beats. 'Atavism' and 'Luminous Angle' shut down with more kinetic energy and twitchy futurism.

This one comes from Len Leno and again offers up a high standard of techno invention. 'Echolocation' doesn't have any dolphin sounds in it but it does cruise as freely as the ocean-going mammals in their pomp. 'Corrugation' is one to keep you on edge with nervy synth motifs looping over percussive and linear beats and 'Radio Silence' then cuts more loose with lashing synth sounds, pulsing pads and a sub-aquatic tension that keeps you on your toes.

Now Lenny is back with a follow up drop which leans into a thumping, crucially funky kind of peak time sound that holds true to the best kind of techno. 'Expansion' in particular is a bouncy workout of the highest calibre, while 'Disruption' is a straighter plug into the cavernous techno abyss. 'Eruption' brings that swing back in a subtle fashion, coming on like some of that early Skudge heat, while 'Dispersion' has a leaner sound palette and its own cheeky strut which offsets the steely sonics perfectly.
