Review: If you're down with HiNRG sounds then this one is an absolute must for your record bag. Both sides of this reissued 12" are massive to say the least with power couple Pascal and Denise Languirand aka Lady D really making their mark. Here on 'Imagination' there are strong electro influences as well as some firing percussive action that pays homage to freestyle and Latin sounds that were big n the LA scene when it was first penned. The big one though is 'I'm Yours Tonight' which brings fresh energy to house and is a real grail these days.

Gambling Man (instrumental) (4:04)
Review: A reissue of the Dreamy French synth-pop project from 1984 by vocalist Judy Larsen and keyboardist and synthesizer player Frederick Rousseau, close friend and long-time collaborator from Vangelis, featuring a bonus beat by Audrey Danza that really brings a camp energy to match Judy's equally sensual and campy tone. All tracks have been freshly re-mastered from their original master tapes and are currently unavailable on streaming services - a great loss considering the bubbly vocals from Larsen, paired with the zany production from Rousseau, makes for an entertaining time capsule of pop, with that slight misty vocal quality that makes authentic synth pop so great for easy listening.

If You Want (4:26)
Summer Time (4:40)
Review: Even by Italo disco standards, where the fans get frothy over everything from the 80s peak period, Laura Angel's one-off single If You Want is a rare and cherished slice of lo-fi pop. Originally released in 1985 as a 7" on Disco In, it fetches some heavyweight prices second hand if you can find a copy, but now Disco Segreta have done the right thing and dug it out, spruced it up and given it a proper 12" pressing. 'If You Want' is the best kind of Italo, which knows how to embrace the bombast and romanticism without losing a cool, sinister edge. The synths bleep and bump, and Angel's vocal comes on like the late, great Julee Cruise. 'Summer Time' is a more anthemic strain of Italo, perhaps less beguiling than the A side but no slouch for any devotee of the sound.

Kyiv (4:23)
Review: While in 2024 we're supposed to understand, acknowledge, hear and appropriately respond to the trials and tribulations playing out in minds across the world, in many ways driven by global events and the status quo system we have rather foolishly settled on, for the time being, Lebanon Hangover's hiatus-ending two-tracker - their first studio work since 2020 - opens with a clear message. "Life is full of wonder, it's better than going under." Perhaps not the most sensitive way of telling us to appreciate our lot, the track itself, which nods to Head On The Door-era Cure, is all melancholic chords and a feeling of dizzying, perhaps even manic despair alongside the comfort that comes with recognising the universal human condition. It's a joyful but slightly sinister lead. Flip it to find 'KYIV', an acoustic-ambient-Cocteau Twins-esque tribute to the sorrow and pain of Ukraine, and, by association, other war torn regions of the world.

Review: An appropriate name for things to say the least, nine tracks of ambient drone business are offered on this collection, and they all somehow manage to straddle both eeriness and ethereality. There has scarcely been more proof of how fine the line is between unsettling and settling noises. B1's arrangement is certainly not going to make anyone feel calmer, albeit there's nothing there that should cause anxiety. Strange, otherworldly vocal loops and whirring mechanics aren't exactly made for relaxation, though. C1, on the other hand, feels more like we're exploring the sonic landscape of another planet, while A1 is a creeping and slightly creepy arrangement that feels almost ghostly. Definitely one that more explorative and adventurous ears will be quick to find an affinity to, by the time D4 closes out with its suggestions of beat and rhythm coming from a minimal reverberation it feels like you've been somewhere. Working out where is another question.

Angel Eyes (Tiga remix) (6:59)
Angel Eyes (7:47)
Angel Eyes (dub mix) (7:55)
Review: Definitely one for the collectors, Lime was Canadian duo (then husband and wife) Denis and Denyse LePage, and 'Angel Eyes' was originally the second single from their third studio album, 1983's Lime III. Almost 40 years later, the track has returned as a short form release, offering the original synth pop anthem, and a clubbier dub mix.

For many, though, not least Unidisc Canada, the label carrying this re-release, the major selling point is a remix - and something of a remodelling - courtesy of Turbo Recordings boss and dance music icon Tiga. Forsaking the rather smiley and bouncy original work, in favour of something grittier and altogether more dystopian, it's a masterclass of rough, gnarly broken electro, reworking and chopping vocals into disorientating loops, before finally introducing a kind of warehouse synth pop sound.

Review: Switzerland's Bongo Joe imprint is all too often overlooked and underrated. Unlike other labels who are all about the branding and PR, these guys are in the game simply for the sounds and, more than anything, to bring you something that you may not have heard before. Much like that excellent comp covering the sounds of The Bahamas, back in the 50s, this new collection of tunes uncovers a scene that perhaps few have heard in this country, the post-punk wave that engulfed Spain at the beginning of the 1980s. To be precise, La Contra Ola covers the years 1980-1986, and the most striking thing about this LP is the diversity of sounds that these artists were using. Unlike the stale synth wave that swept across the UK in that Neo-romantic sway, the likes of Esplendor Geometrico, Derribos Arias, Linea Vienesa, or Tres, to whom this comp is dedicated to, used their own native influences to express their vision of electronic punk music, and the results can be heard all over this magnificent anthology. It's a piece of history that we finally have more knowledge of, and we thank the ever-reliable Bongo Joe for it!

Review: A to-the-T emulation of a classic coldwave/post-punk sound is heard on this debut album by La Nuit Je Mens, a duo split between the Parisian suburbs and southern Italy. Now based in Rome, the pair have come up with a proper synthoid slammer, commandeering a fleet of analogue machines, each member in their own independent wheelhouse. Both artists take up vocals, exploring such tragicomic themes as the slow decline of the clubbing scene and clandestine goings-on in the nostal-chic European underground scene, marking out a sordid subconscious below ostensibly blank progressions. Huge degrees of texture, harmonic range and dynamism are packed into these otherwise rawly armed recordings, with 'Posterite Du Soleil' in particular fitting an immensity of new wave gothic romance into a narrow four-instrument limitation.

Review: Back in 1981, London-based Anthony Waites decided to create some "poetic, subversive pop music" with borrowed synthesizers in friends' bedroom studios. The result was a sole, self-released seven-inch single under the Scenes De La Boheme alias, a record that has long been a cult item amongst collectors. "Standing In The Rain", his first ever album, includes those two tracks - the bubbly brilliance of "Zara" and the lo-fi, beat-free, guitar-driven shuffle of "The Tale Of The Butterfly" - alongside four others recorded in the same period. It's an impressively off-kilter and atmospheric set, with the early Human League style hum of "Leap Into The Void" and the icy shuffle of "A City Such As This" standing out.

The Reason Why
Review: Reissued over two decades since its original release, the second full-length from Liverpool's Ladytron still thrums with the same sharp-edged futurism that made it such a cult touchpoint. Tracks like 'Seventeen' and 'Evil' captured a tension between robotic detachment and raw emotional charge, anchored in the band's icy synth palette and minimal, deadpan vocals. While 'Blue Jeans' flirts with glammy melancholy, 'Turn It On' and 'Fire' dial up the menace, tapping into something more volatile. There's something surgical about the sequencing tooi'Cracked LCD', 'NuHorizons' and 'Cease2exist' stretch into more abstract terrain, before folding back into hook-laced electro-pop with the closing title track and 'The Reason'. With Daniel Hunt and Mickey Petralia co-producing, the album took shape in Los Angeles but never lost the European chill that defined their sound. It's a record that helped redraw the map for synth-pop in the early 2000sineither retro-futurist pastiche nor pure nostalgia, but something sleek, cinematic and entirely their own.

Review: Ladytron return with their highly anticipated seventh studio album Time's Arrow, a panoramic view of many different electronic music styles, umbrella-ed by the arch of indie rock. Building on the Liverpool-based band's rise to prominence in the early 2000s off the back of the electroclash wave, Time's Arrow makes for a whirlwind of difference to back then - shoegaze, indietronica and cloudy industrial music all crop up now, making this a stylistic departure of note.

The Reason Why
Review: A limited edition coloured vinyl reissue of Liverpool crew Ladytron's second studio album, which was written and co-produced in Los Angeles and featured the underground hits 'Seventeen', 'Blue Jeans' and 'Evil'. A shining but rare example of British cybertronic pop made in America, crossing into ethereal wave, electropop and indietronica, this one would predict the development of the LA scene, while also marking the new Millennium with a twinging, slick, cosmopolitan sound.

Review: In 2015, long-serving Slovenian experimentalists Laibach became the first Western band to perform in North Korea, including a number of songs from "The Sound of Music" - a favourite in the DPRK since the 1960s - alongside their own material. Three years on, and with the assistance of Silence's Boris Benko and vocalist Marina Martensson, they've finally delivered their interpretation of the musical film's familiar soundtrack. Swaying between rock balladry, experimental synth-pop, darker tones and industrial style fuzziness, the band's covers are both revolutionary and revelatory, as staples such as "The Lonely Goatherd", "My Favorite Things" and "Do-Re-Mi" are given radical makeovers. As they did at the concert that inspired the set, they also give their interpretation of some traditional North Korean folk songs.

Review: Laibach has announced the release of Opus Dei Revisited, a newly reworked version of their seminal 1987 album. This project features two distinct versions of the original work. The first disc showcases a complete reimagining of the tracks, developed during the band's ongoing Opus Dei Revisited tour. The second disc includes fresh remixes by Rico Conning, who produced the original album, allowing him to reinterpret the source material while preserving key elements. Opus Dei was Laibach's first release with Mute Records, propelling them into international recognition and spotlighting their unique sound. The album includes Leben heiBt Leben, a German-language adaptation of Opus' Live is Life, which will again be featured on this release. Formed in 1980 in the industrial town of Trbovlje, Slovenia, Laibach's provocative performances and imagery have earned them a reputation as one of Eastern Europe's most influential collectives. Opus Dei Revisited promises to challenge perceptions and expectations, echoing the band's relentless pursuit of artistic innovation.

Review: The genius of Music From Memory has always been the label's ability to shine a light of sublime music that most will have missed. Certainly, very few will be familiar with the work of Geoffrey Landers, a Denver, Colarado-based multi-instrumentalist who recorded three albums and one single between 1982 and 1987. This superb retrospective contains material from all of these releases, deftly showcasing Landers' intriguing musical palette - a trippy mixture of vintage electronics, experimental new wave influences, strange spoken word snippets, occasional dub influences, effects-laden guitar passages, post-punk attitude, minimalist synth-funk and what would now be considered discordant art-rock. It's a stylistic melting pot that makes for wonderful listening.

Review: Minimal Wave dig into the archives of Gallic synth savant Philippe Laurent, presenting a selection of tracks recorded between the late seventies and late eighties. This is the first time all but the most ardent fans of synth wave music will have heard some of the nine tracks here, as they range between previously unreleased or culled from obscure tape only compilations. There's an approach to rhythm, depth and structure here that is startling, given the technology used, with a bounce throughout that's familiar to the early Detroit electro artists. Pressed up on heavyweight 180gram translucent red vinyl that is housed in a deluxe sleeve, this release will prove to be every bit as essential as previous Minimal Wave output for fans of the synth sound.

Review: Leathers' debut album, Ultraviolet, helmed by Canadian musician and visual artist Shannon Hemmett, plunges listeners into a neon-lit world of synth-driven dream pop, darkwave, and shoegaze. Hemmett, who also plays keyboards for Actors, fully engages herself in every facet of this project, from crafting the music to designing the visual aesthetics. Ultraviolet offers a mix of new tracks and familiar hits, with 'Divine' standing out as a stellar example of what the album delivers. Hemmett's sharp lyrics, like "I demand your best behaviour / no, I won't ask you twice," are paired with infectious melodies, impressing longtime fans. Produced by Actors frontman Jason Corbett, Ultraviolet channels the brooding pop of Depeche Mode's classic albums like Black Celebration and Violator. While the album is rooted in synths and melodic immediacy, it carries a darker, moody undercurrent. Leathers' Ultraviolet is an impressive debut that showcases Hemmett's artistic vision, blending haunting soundscapes with striking visuals to create a cohesive and engaging album.

Review: Larissa Iceglass and William Maybelline grace our charts, once again, with their painfully cool brand of synth experiments under the Lebanon Hanover alias - one of the few duos to provide us with a truly refreshing blend of cold waves, currently. They return on their favourite Fabrika Records, out of Greece, with Let Them Be Alien, a provocative and multi-skinned album that travels many corners of the electronic sphere. The sounds are proportionately dark and lonesome, but each track is built in its own entity, from the very loose and cerebral to the more percussive and rhythm-laden. The best thing about it the duo's blend of Germanic and British industrialism, making for some veritably post-post-modernist sounds. Wicked.

A truly international concept, for those who don't know Lebanon Hanover's members are neither from Hanover nor Lebanon, and in fact are Larissa Georgiou, aka Larissa Iceglass of Switzerland, and William Maybelline of the UK. The where is less important than the what, though, and in this instance the what is some pretty heavy duty dark wave sounds, like you've stepped into a gothic opera.

Immediately captivating, it's angst for adults, packing insane levels of musicality and some far-reaching ideas, but always grounded in a level of musicality that makes the whole thing feel much less off-the-wall than many of its moments are. Packed with atmosphere, the kind of noises that seem to channel directly to the centre of your brain, and so much dark energy you quickly start to picture how good this would be live.

Wilfully dull and drossy, the duo's sound is a zombified lumberer for the 21st Century, best represented by their inimitable viral hit 'Gallowdance', which far more than successfully introduced the world to the work of Larissa Iceglass and William Maybelline. The German-British duo soon followed with their debut album here, 'Tomb For Two', which nows sees a reissue. Its tracks are no less arresting than 'Gallowdance', nailing a raw ethereality that requires nothing more, nor nothing less to command the attention of its listener.

Review: Who said that quality coldwave and minimal synth has to belong to the 80s? Led Er Est, the NYC outfit that includes part-time techno luminary Shawn O'Sullivan, certainly like to prove otherwise and, in fact, this is some of the illest material available across those genres. Dust On Common is one of their which surfaced in 2009 and that has been the stuff of legends ever since - a true collector's piece from the post-90s bubble. Of course, it's Berlin's unstoppable Mannequin which has taken the effort to re-release this beauty for RSD 2017, and we gotta say that it's probably the best release from this year's showcase. Travelling between post-punk, stoner rock, industrial and techno, the album is as diverse as it is singular; most of all, it gives us the belief that we shouldn't always look to the far past to find inspiration and excitement. While we love this work, it has left us with a taste for more. Being on more Led Er Est material!

Stoff, Paul Raal and Boogaloo Steve are said to have been close collaborators over the last decade and a half, with Chromium Dioxide merging each respective member's love of the '80s - Hi-NRG, Italo, electro-pop and synth movie scores in particular - across a dozen tracks across two discs. From the neon-lit nite drive of opening cut 'Telemark', to moments of late night euphoria captured on VHS as heard on 'Europa Supersaw' featuring Jon Jon Foster of Bronski Beat. The sunset Balearica of 'Girotti' featuring Christina Mirabilis is for people watching at cafes on a boulevard in Rimini circa '88, while the slo-mo romantic pop of 'White Tail' featuring Jimmy Baker shows yet more diversity in their repertoire. Highly recommended.

Review: Leroy Se Meurt make a bold statement here with their new long player on the Mannequin label. It finds the Parisian pair keeping the foundational sounds of EBM, post-punk and electro at the core but also explores around the edges in fantastic fashion. The mood here is heavy and abrasive rock textures permeate the tracks next to electric synths and over worked samplers. The tracks feature lyrics sung in Turkish and French and are hard hitting affairs with floor facing, repetitive loop madness next to double-tempo cuts with chaotic guitars amongst much more.

Review: Mannequin really can do no wrong if you're looking for cold wave, synth oddities, EBM and the like. As this LFT outing goes to show. Born in a twisted, semi-industrial place that's packed with percussion, reverberated noises, growling basslines, and a kind of sinister sexual energy (or maybe that's just us?), it's timeless stuff providing your concept of time begins and ends in the modern era. A retro futurist palette with punk smeared across its face.

Nevertheless, variety abounds once you have started to pick things apart. There's the slow, hypnosis of 'Blood Vessel', a track that sounds like acid meeting a rather monotone political speech. Meanwhile, 'Narcissist', featuring the vocal prowess of Rosaceae, could be the product of Blondie spending a night at KitKat Club in the late-1980s. We could go on, but simply put it's a visceral adventure into dark synth pop, and a highly enjoyable experience from start to finish.

Liaisons Dangereuses
Review: Liaisons Dangereuses self-titled debut album was not an immediate success on its' release in 1981, but its' influence would spread far and wide. Almost entirely made up of synthesized rhythms, chords and melodies - with the addition of stylish vocals from all three band members - it would help define the "electronic body music sound". It quickly became a big record in both Detroit and Chicago, inadvertently helping to inspire the nascent techno and house scenes. Listening again to this reissue, it's amazing how well the music as aged. While heavy on stylish posturing, it still sounds thrillingly futuristic and alien. It should be an essential purchase for anyone with even the smallest interest in the history and development of electronic music.

Review: Wearing 1980s synth pop influences on their sleeve, and sounding exactly like they belong on the mighty DFA, Brooklyn's Light Asylum were rightly praised at the time they put out their debut - and, to this date - only studio album, circa 2012. Critics noted that, at a time when dance-punk crossover was everywhere, driven by LCD Soundsystem and many of the acts frontman James Murphy signed to DFA, the New Yorkers manage to differentiate themselves from the pack in several ways.

Taking a hint of Depeche Mode (well, maybe a bit more), a pinch of Nine Inch Nails, and parts of Throbbing Gristle, Gary Numan, and other pioneers, Light Asylum managed to introduce some much-needed light and spatiality into the often claustrophobically dark and oppressive industrial synth world. In doing so, they offer a sound that's somehow both universally accessible and niche, which is never an easy line to tread.

Review: It's a really positive thing that the history of electronic music, and in particular synthesis, has been reappraised in recent years with a specific goal of paying tribute to the women who pushed boundaries while pushing buttons on experimental equipment, many having been all-but-written out of the modular, sampler and drum machine pantheons. Still, some remain criminally overlooked, for example Venezuelan pioneer Oksana Linde.

Amazingly, four decades after much of this work was written, Linde is now seeing her first ever full album released. Aquatic & Other Worlds collates her sounds, noises, and electronic overtures conceived between 1982 and 1989, and presents them as a dense sonic realm crying out to be explored. It's no exaggeration to say that fans of Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze will be in their element here. Nor is it misleading to say the lady in question can stand up to both of those world-famous names.

Within the duo, Alison writes and performs all vocal elements, while Ryan is responsible for the writing and performing of the electronics, as well as recording and mixing of the final recordings. For their debut album they utilized small, simple analog synthesizer set up: Roland SH-09, Roland Juno 6, Vermona DRM MKiii, Korg Poly 800 and Analogue Solutions Semblance. Linea Aspera's sound includes clear influences from early electronic body music, classic synth-pop and, in some instances, industrial and noise. Lyrically the band incorporates the sciences of osteology, neuroscience, and anthropology weaving a new medical language around themes of desire, despair and renewal. Linea Aspera serve up an icebox of dark doom riding on Alison's powerful vocals with a soft but sharp touch.

Review: On The Screen: an LP from the Belgian band Linear Movement originally slated for release in 1983. Linear Movement is mastermind Peter Bonne (A Split-Second, Twilight Ritual, Autumn) joined by Peter Koutstaal, and Lieve Van Steerteghem on vocals for several tracks. Some tracks appear on the exquisite Pulse Music cassette while the rest are previously unreleased. Linear Movement was featured on V/A The Lost Tapes compilation LP with their highly acclaimed The Game, described as an "unstoppable pop song". Linear Movement have been called "a more primitive, cold wave Visage", and have been compared to the Human League. Peter differentiated LM from his other projects TR and Aut by the distinct sound of the compositions: they were poppier.

Review: Minimal Wave returns to their Belgian fancy, Linear Movement, for an all new trawl through their archive called The Linear Way. Two of the six tracks featured, "The Linear Way" and "Don't Try To Trick Me", have been lifted from the band's rare 1983 Pulse Music tape whilst the remainder are Linear Movement songs that have seen official release before. Of the latter, the quirky quasi techno of "Inside Outside" - potentially the best tune on here - and the mechanical, slow-burning lo-fi electro of "I Might As Well Be There" stand out in particular. But The Linear Way sounds great as a whole. Highly recommended.

Review: .The last time we fell in love with Kedr Livansky it was October 2021 and the world was looking up. Lockdowns were over, and Liminal Soul brought us a celebratory embrace rooted in dance music and post-club night warmth. "Trance-tipped, heart-on-sleeve dance music that's never shy and still always chilled out enough to sit back and contemplate," we said at the time. Myrtus Myth is a very different thing altogether, but thankfully feels no less optimistic. Definitely sitting closer to pop, a kind of soft-yacht-rock, electronic-jazz-chill, and beach bar downtempo compared with the dance floors we were so keen to revisit three years ago, a few things have survived - all of them wonderful deep. Another stunner, to put all that another way.

Review: This playfully titled release features David Javelosa (on synth and vocals) along with Meg Brazill (on bass and vocals) plus drummer Todd "Rosa" Rosencrans. Side One features five studio tracks, none of which were included on the band's 1981 Posh Boy LP, Life After Breakfast. Three of these tracks were recorded in '82; there's no information regarding the provenance of the other two songs. The records' second side collects five live recordings, capturing Los Microwaves onstage in New York City (The Peppermint Lounge) and Boston as well as at San Francisco's own I-Beam, a venue that often played host to the band. Those tracks date form roughly the same ear, 1980-83. Sonically the songs variously recall Blondie, Flying Lizards, Gang of Four and a far less dour Human League. Importantly, the band rocks, even when it's employing a spare drum kit, solid but elemental bass, and monophonic analog synthesizers. The stripped down aesthetics of the group - necessitated by its minimalist instrumental approach - are nonetheless thrilling. Even if you weren't there in 1980, this'll take you back.

Review: Much like their contemporaries, labels like Mannequin or Dark Entries, Barcelona's Domestica Records have become experts in sussing out rare and inaccessible gear from the 80s and 90s. We are, of course, talking about all things post-punk and dark wave, which makes the search for the perfect repress even harder, perhaps. This time, we've been graced with the presence of Lost Desert and Spleen Ideal, two acts from the late 80s and early 90s who both crafted the cold wave sound into the pearl of lust and romanticism that it has become known as. Between both outfits on here, there is so much glorious music to get stuck into - moving, melancholic and liberating all at the same time.

Review: Josh Cheon's retrovert powerhouse Dark Entries reissues Lunapark's 1982 debut album Gefangene Vogel ('Prisoner Birds') originally on Stuttgart imprint Intakt Records. Lunapark were German trio of Burkhard Ballein, Klaus "Schlips" Gebauer and Reinhard "Zoppen" Benisch. Underrated heroes of the Neue Deutsche Welle scene, they allegedly recorded the tracks "using a simple set up of guitar, bass, drums, drum-computer, and Korg MS-10 & MS-20 synthesizers". The monotone German vocals epitomize the Zeitgeist of the Cold War. We particularly enjoyed the cosmic punk funk on the title track, the ode to popular Bayern menswear "Lederhosen" (featuring vocals that sound like Nena and some Giorgio Moroder style arpeggios) and any track dedicated to a legend such as "John Lennon" can't all be bad even in its stylish deadpan delivery.

Review: In honour of the 25th birthday of painter-turned-DIY musician Tor Lundvall's hard-to-find debut album, 'Passing Through Alone', Dais has joined forces with the New York-based creative polymath to produce a career-spanning, five-disc box set. Naturally, it begins with that 1997 debut - on which he laid down his now familiar "signature palette of synth, sequencers, guitar, drum machines, and hushed spectral voice" (as the label puts it) - before delivering an expanded edition of his 2010 odds-and-ends collection 'Ghost Years'. What follows is inaugural CD editions of three of Lundvall's most recent albums: 'A Strangeness In Motion' (a collection of lo-fi pop tracks recorded across the 90s), 'A Dark Place' and 'Beautiful Illusions'. A fitting celebration of a genuinely unique artist.

Ionia was their first ever studio album and to mark its 30th anniversary it gets a full reissue here, and it sounds as good as it ever did. It was an album that kick started a scene but despite that was out of print until 2011 when a CD version was put out. The tracks are dense, with layers of gauzy guitar textures, fuzzy feedback and sleazy noise obscuring the tortured vocals. Some tracks explore a more ethereal vibe like 'Fate' while moments of pure intensity like 'This Moment' are real highlights.

This much deserved reissue on Milan-based Avantgarde Records features all 10 original tracks which bear the Arizona outfit's well-known sound signatures: Mike VanPortfleet's bleak vocal delivery with wailing wall of noise guitars and haunting synth textures, underpinned by skeletal, reverberated rhythms of a minimalist nature. Tracks such as 'Pygmalion', 'The Body Electric', 'The Remnants & The Ruins' and 'Sorrow Is Her Name' are a zeitgeist of the early '90s ethereal darkwave subgenre.

Review: Danish artists Niels Lyngso and Morten Sondergaard initially bonded over their mutual love of DIY electronic music experiments, before realising that they were both poets. On the same day in 1992, they both released their debut poetry books and this collaborative album - a now sought-after obscurity that has been remastered and reissued by brand-new imprint Sunny Crypt. It's a fascinating and surprisingly on-point collection that effortlessly flits between keyboard solo-sporting instrumental street soul (the deliciously loved-up 'Dromte Mig En Drom'), tactile, organ-sporting slo-mo synth-pop ('Variete'), beat-free synth-tango ('Tango Del Amor'), poodle perm-sporting Scandinavian metal ('Vagvisa'), music concrete ('Edektronika', 'Babylon Gebbesogt') and hard-to-pigeonhole electronic soundscapes ('No. 8').
