Enter The Dragon
Misirlou
Review: Dutch club jazz band New Cool Collective returns with a tasty 7" featuring two cinema classics. On the A-side, they serve up their own fresh and super funky cover of 'Enter the Dragon,' the iconic theme associated with Bruce Lee and his martial arts masterpiece of the same name. The B-side features their take on 'Misirlou' which is a legendary surf rock track by Dick Dale & The Del-Tones that was made world famous when it was used as the theme from Quentin Taranto's chef d'ouevre, Pulp Fiction. This double-sider is standout for its nostalgic movie associations but also on a purely musical level it oozes class.

Review: Tacoma garage rock legends The Sonics are revisited here across seven 7" singles, covering their key material from 1964 to 1966. The set includes foundational tracks from the Etiquette years - 'The Witch', 'Psycho', and 'Strychnine' - alongside Jerden-era cuts like 'Head On Backwards' and 'Like No Other Man', all remastered and sequenced with clarity. It's the first time material from both periods has been presented together on vinyl. 'Keep A Knockin' and 'Louie Louie' sit comfortably beside the band's originals, which are leaner, noisier, and often more aggressive. 'Boss Hoss', 'Cinderella', and 'Shot Down' showcase the group's punchy rhythm section and blown-out recording style, while 'Have Love Will Travel' and 'High Time' ride the line between r&b cover and full distortion assault. 'Maintaining My Cool', long circulating in other formats, makes its vinyl debut here in its rare Audio Recording version. The pressing includes a booklet with photography by Jini Dellaccio, but the real appeal is in the sequencing - no filler, no novelty, just the most direct catalogue survey of a band that never needed polishing.

Review: Rain Parade's 1985 release marks a defining moment in the band's journey, offering a blend of jangly guitars and psychedelia-laced textures that epitomise the era's alt-rock tendencies. Hailing from Los Angeles, the band delivers a turbulent mix of influences, ranging from the baroque to the brittle, with a certain disjointedness that reflects their internal struggles. The production, led by Steve Gronback, offers a spacious sound that gives space to the atmospheric instrumentation, but the lack of cohesion leaves some tracks feeling as though they're searching for a purpose. Highlights like 'Depending on You' showcase the band's potential, but the overall effect is one of a group caught in transition, unsure of where they're headed. Tracks such as 'Mystic Green' and 'Gone West' encapsulate this feeling of aimless wandering, while 'Invisible People' stands out as an example of the band's unique blend of folk and psychedelia. Though compelling in parts, this album never fully realises its promise.

Review: Beside a wider label reissues operation comes Elektra's main moneymaker, The Doors, with a reissue of Golden Doors 2, a posthumous compilation of rarities and outtakes from the Jim Morrison mortifier band's heyday, roughly the late 1960s. If any doors had previously been barricaded then fans will be happy to have had them torn down early on: the compilation, first out in 1970, heard raw, rough versions of tracks alongside experimental jams and studio snippets from the LA rockers, coming just before their Morrison Hotel left turn and shedding light on the band's early creative process through demo takes of 'You Make Me Real', 'Love Ho!' and 'Wild Child'. Rusty, xerotic blues rock to a T.

Phantom Island
Phantom Island (limited 180 gram eco vinyl LP (indie exclusive))
Cat: PDOO 1728991.
Review: Few bands get to say that their LPs incite such routine fanfare that most records see prompt reissues less than a year after first blush, but King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard are a special case. 'Phantom Island' first surfaced in single form in October 2024, heralding the whopping 27th studio album of the same name, despite the band's relatively recent formation in 2010 - and further bolstering the wide conceptual berth of what fans have dubbed the "Gizzverse". The track nods to the curious history of phantom islands, mythical landmasses charted on old maps but never real, like Pepys Island or Antillia. Originally meant as the opener for Flight b741, Stu Mackenzie shifted it aside after it took on a more laid back feel, diverging from that album's rowdier tone. We in turn follow Flight b741's pilot on an alternate-ended, dreamlike journey to a mysterious island where passengers lose their grip on reality.

Jittoku 76 (2xCD)
Cat: DRFT 19CD. Rel: 19 Sep 25
Review: Kyoto punks Les Rallizes Denudes denude us of our pretensions with this live recording, taped on July 30 during a brief stopover on route to the Sunset Carnival in Ishikawa. The psych-noise band's lineup at the time included founding members Takashi Mizutani and Takashi Nakamura, joined by Hiroshi Nar (ex-Zunou Keisatsu) on bass and Sami (aka Toshiro Mimaki) on drums. Captured on a Marantz cassette deck with internal mics, this is a raw recording of a power-psych show of force, and despite deleting album cut 'The Last One', it's been as sensitively restored as possible by Makoto Kubota. Jittoku 76 offers a notably different set from '77 Live, containing early versions of 'Dream Again Today' and 'Carnival', not to mention a bruising rework of 'Hibiscus Flower', dragging the track into heavier in-the-moment territory.

Review: Another gloriously chaotic chapter in Perth's Psychedelic Porn Crumpets' relentless journey through the mind of frontman and band lynchpin Jack McEwan. As the five-piece continues to thrive on a steady stream of eccentric, genre-blending rock, bearing hallmarks of prog, psych and metal but never slavishly adhering to any of them, their seventh album promises to add more fire to their reputation. The first fruit to be shared from it, 'Weird World Awoke', is a fast-paced, ferocious blast of frenetic guitar, one that spins and stutters in equal measure. The rest bears the usual witty lyrical offering, McEwan describing the creative process as "a mongrel of sorts", with subjects ranigng from Greek philosophy to dog bites, the singer being rather an expert after a recent high profile London date was cancelled due to a particularly nasty canine attack. Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are here to keep us all guessing and unpredictability goes, their brand is thrilling.

The Elektra Singles (Elektra 75 Edition)
Cat: EA 2781151. Rel: 25 Jul 25
Review: Smudging garage rock, rock, psychedelia and soul into a strange narrative brew, LA bandleader luminaire Arthur Lee would find Love before he knew it. Initially known for their explosive live shows at the Whisky a Go Go, the band quickly became one of Elektra Records' first rock signings, predating even The Doors. Their Elektra singles period (roughly 1966-1969) charts their evolution from sharp, snarling garage pop into baroque psychedelia and burnout mysticism, all under Lee's mercurial leadership. Though they never broke nationally in the way their Elektra padres did, their early singles - the likes of 'My Little Red Book', 'Orange Skies' and 'Laughing Stock' - defined the tense, sun-blasted atmosphere of mid-60s LA, more paranoid than flower-powered.

Trash Classic
Review: Frankie And The Witch Fingers lurch into new territory with Trash Classic, a warped evolution soaked in synth-punk squalor and disintegrating glamour. Unconcerned with polish, the LP thrives in corrosion, offering rickety rictuses and distortion-drenched gospel from bottom barrels. This is their most jagged, volatile work yet: buzzing with attitudinal attrition, spat-out hooks, and rhythms writhing like exposed wires neath acid rain. Made between the scorched industrial outskirts of Vernon, LA and finally shaped at Tiny Telephone Studio in Oakland with producer Maryam Qudus (La Luz, Spacemoth), this one owes its gnarled edges to both geographic grit and a willingness to unravel convention; late-night sugar binges, chaotic cartoon marathons, and freeform studio experiments fed its spastic jaunt. It's also a digital detour for the band, since their many discog-jamming catalogue adds released through Greenway Records, which otherwise trod in an increasing doom-psych direction.

El Entierro De Un Hombre Rico Que Murio De Hambre
Hello, I Love You
Review: One of the rarest singles from 1960s Venezuela sees its first official reissue, a garage nugget by The Pets-an obscure Caracas outfit active during the boom of the local nueva ola. Formed in the wake of The Beatles' worldwide success, the group left behind just one LP and this impossible-to-find 7", issued in 1967 and long coveted by collectors. The A-side, 'El entierro de un hombre rico que murio de hambre', is a raw, fuzz-laden standout-equal parts social commentary and proto-punk bite, its warped organs and sneering vocals earning it cult status across Latin garage circles. On the flip, a Spanish-language version of The Doors' 'Hello, I Love You' finds the band leaning fully into the era's beat influence with jagged charm. Sourced from original master tapes and newly remastered, this is a vital piece of Latin American garage history-delirious, political, and burning with youthful revolt.
