Review: The influential 90s IDM and techno act Future Sound of London continues to delve into their early career with the reissue of The Pulse EP Vol 2, originally released in 1991. This EP exemplifies the early techno sound, blending rave elements with the more intelligent and linear side of electronic dance music. Side-1 kicks off with 'Stolen Documents' (Jazz dub) by The Future Sound of London, a track that perfectly melds jazzy undertones with dub influences, creating a sophisticated and immersive experience. Following this is Smart Systems' 'Zip Code' (Stress Ball mix), a piece that balances high-energy beats with a stress-relieving ambiance. Side-2 begins with 'Innate' (W O W mix) by The Future Sound of London, a track that delves into deeper, more atmospheric realms, showcasing the group's innovative approach to soundscaping. Indo Tribe's 'I've Become What You Were' (Insider mix) closes the EP, with a pulsating techno rhythm that encapsulates the essence of the early '90s rave scene. Before their signature chill out sound was made, FSOL his some of their highest notes here with these early EPs.

Igaxx - "4.5 SL Trip" (5:29)
Igaxx - "Liquefy" (5:17)
Igaxx - "Ray In Space" (4:13)
Review: Will Hofbauer and Igaxx collaboratively expand the all-too-easily received palettes of electro, techno, garage all in between, and even more yonder, proving to us that the boundary edges of each genre may be blurred without worry. Sharing three groove-bays each on this latest 12", Hofbauer indulges an across-the-pond sojourn, guesting on Japan's Ladybug label, which is managed by the also eminent Igaxx, who occupies the B with equal grip. Hofbauer's 'Cricket', 'Clod' and 'Cocodrilo' bring three endocrine C's to a singly sanguine side, echoing a Hessle Audio-esque experimental dance sensibility while secreting all manner of vital sonic fluids from his ears unto ours; the last track is especially alarming; cursedly toothy, its growly lead zombifying the elsewise rapid mix by way of an enthralled grunt. Igaxx's contributions are relatively supportive and yet mad, moving from the squelches and pipey ascensions of '4 5 SL Trip' to the parabreaks flows of 'Liquefy' and the sloshing cosmo-funk astro-vista that is 'Ray In Space'.

Hit The Floor (5:31)
Orange Mood (5:42)
Adrift (3:42)
Dazzling (7:27)
Sunset Recall (6:54)
Review: Ltd B's good recent run of form continues with another dive into lush deep house realms courtesy of ICTV. First off the mark is 'Hit The Floor' with its US garage-inspired drums and some old school hip-house vocals. 'Orange Mood' is a steamy one with romantic melodies soothing the soul and some smart vocals adding a tough of firey soul. 'Adrift' then picks up the pace with some high-speed jungle breakbeats and 'Dazzling' sinks back into loved-up late-night sounds with expressive vocal yelps. Last of all, 'Sunset Recall' takes things down into blissed out realms with dusty drums and wispy pads.

Cantan Los Pajaros Modulares (11:15)
Telepatic (14:44)
Review: Santiago-based Drumma label is back in full swing with its first release in a couple of years. Before the pandemic they had releases from scene heavy hitters such as Luciano, (iO) Mulen, Barac and Livio & Roby. For this one they've chosen Miami-based up-and-comer Idana who presents the immersive and multi-layered minimal techno experience of 'Cantan Los Pajaros Modulares' featuring an array of atonal blips and bleeps underpinned by clipped and hypnotic polyrhythms. Over on the flip, the mesmerising energy continues on the wonky breakbeat-driven roller 'Telepatic'.

Review: Dutch artist Identified Patient has started a new label called Nerve Collect. It is a collaboration with his friend and sometime musical partner Gamma intellect who will be behind the seance EP. This debut is a brilliantly bonkers collision of bass, techno, electro, acid and breaks. The sound design is off the charts and the music is certainly some of the best the artist has made to date. From the lurching bass mania of 'Walk With Me' to the post-jungle drums of 'The Fun Never Stops' via the industrial trip-hop of 'Second-Hand Nostalgia' this is an EP you need in your life.

The Jazz Avengers

Igaxx - "Through The Night" (5:34)
DJ Dreamboy - "New Life" (5:50)
Jarren - "Summertime In The 323" (4:52)
Hanna - "Prayin'" (6:37)
Zopelar - "Caminhos Abertos" (5:50)
Review: We're surprised that the superhero league The Jazz Avengers aren't more spoken about: the idea seems so familiar yet uncannily unknown, we wonder if the notion of a superhero troupe composed of entirely of Black jazz musicians would've been too disturbing for the US Empire not to suppress. Taking after the idea, Bryan Hervieu's 'Jazz Avengers' EP is an elegant quadruplet of boat-rocking house beats, holding more sway in the domain of vibe than they do in the way of big generic ideas. Igaxx and DJ Dreamboy's 'Through The Night' and 'New Life' move at similar tempi yet vibe at different freqs, the former waxing cowbell and dusky padwork, and the latter serving a relatively purist, calculative 808 jam energy. Jarren's 'Summertime In The 323' segues quite seamlessly out from this session mood, though it does add some surreal, pitch-convected plucks; Hanna's 'Prayin'' is the only soul curveball, its syncopated, pre-one DX7 E-Piano chord preset mixed to an impeccable, gut-churning quality.

Grt Plschr (4:25)
Review: Ildec shows plenty of class on this diverse new EP for Belgium's Altered Circuits. It has its roots in an early 90s electronic sound with plenty of inspiration from the artist's own compelling DJ sets. The Ibiza-based producer opens up with the atmospheric synths of 'El Principio' then gets gritty on tough tech loops on 'Modificacion' and explores a more funky broken beat vibe on 'El Break Del Dia'. 'El Break De La Noche' is cyborg funk with freaky effects and alien life forms and two closers get nice and bumpy with twisted bass and off-kilter rhythms.

Review: The ability to spread audio-confusion.isn't a gift possessible by just anybody, but French pushers Time To Panic are certainly among the more natural prodigies in the discipline. Sowing the seeds of chaos, distortion and gyration wherever they go, they here welcome newcomer ILDEC to the fold for a new EP, 'Whatever You Want', which blends tropes from oldkskool acid trance and rave with a dungeon-esque palette and what sounds like made up videogame samples, the highlights being the farty electroclash number 'Shawarma Up' and the wally cruncher 'Watching The Loop'.

Review: Just before it hits the double digits milestone, Dusk Notes revisit earlier suns with a new imagery remix EP. 'Asymmetric Information' (Homemade Weapons remix) opens up with a jungle techno assault that comes on in waves of irresistible physicality, and 'Don't Crush The Acid' (Viels remix) then gets deeper and darker and more paired back. 'Don't Crush The Acid' (Fred P remix) is one of the New York don's famously heady, spiritual and jazz inflected works and 'Inner Sunset' (Soramimi & Rondec remix) then slows it down to a dubby mutant crawl.

Review: Maimi troupe Imbue continue their free-spirited sonic spree, this time on Re:Face. As always, it's a very fluid affair; washing our souls with their delicate fusion of live instrumentation, analogue wizardry and hypnotic groovemanship. Over four tracks we explore their full palette. Electro feels inform the opening track 'Boy With Apple' while the title track 'Overlook' bumps with more of an essence of funky house. Meanwhile on the B it's all-out funk affair. 'Model 29' is a party waiting to happen while 'Dawn' shrouds us in a big old cosmic cloak. Bottoms up.

Review: Infinity's 'Judgment' originally came out in 1994. It was one of a few 'side aliases' of one Enzo Annecchini, a little known house / bleep producer who released very limited-run 12"s on his own label Miracle Records. It came as break from his only other known project, playing synths in the Bradford thrash metal band Slammer a couple of years earlier. That's not to say Annecchini wasn't in the know, though; he had a close affiliation with Unique 3. It's not known how Kalahari Oyster Cult found this one, but its relative obscurity hardly detracts from its inimitable tranciness, electric pianized cheek, and grooving swing. Don't miss this textural reissue of a masterclass in '90s trance-bleep.

Review: History tends to look back kindly on musicians unafraid to proudly wear their music on their sleeves. On the cover of their debut album The Ingram Kingdom, the members of Ingram stand united in front of a banner that reads, "the funk is in our music," and the transfixing image of the cover flows deep in the body of the album's audio landscape. For this special 7" single, P-VINE has paired two sensational sampling covers with organ-frenzy jam "The Champ" originally by Mohawks with "Apache" by Incredible Bongo Band.

Review: Following releases by John Shima, Derek Carr, Cignol and Sound Synthesis amongst others, Distant Worlds continue their deep dive into UK techno culture with this record from Inkipak. Inkipak is the pseudonym for Jon Mace, who has released a solid run of albums and EPs since 2020, most notably on the recently revived Mighty Force Records from Devon (home to Aphex Twin's first ever release). Sonically, Mace balances crafty drum editing sensibilities with cinematic composition, creating a melancholic and immensely satisfying strain of headphone fodder. It's an approach which slots right in the B12 style of electronica you commonly find on Distant Worlds, and it marks yet another top drawer drop in the burgeoning Inkipak catalogue.

Sitting somewhere between techno, footwork and jungle, once again it's a high energy session that refuses to compromise in any direction. 'Wet Brain' comes with a tribal, Detroit-like feeling and heaven sent pads on the breakdown. 'We Want' is a ploughman funk-up with beats so chunky they could choke a hamlet of gammons, 'Oh No' is a playful acid romp while 'Fonda U' closes the EP on an upbeat, uplifiting affair. Oh yes.

'Revved Orb' is a more dubbed-out and trippy post-jungle rhythm with 'Redawn' bringing soulful Detroit techno style to the floor. With his trio of tunes, Inkipak offers stripped-back breaks and celestial chords, heavenly moods on 'Schedule' and a cosmic comedown soundtrack with 'Wetlands.'

Review: Holding Hands is all about turbo charged tech house for sweating dance floors. The latest in its on going run of top class tunes is a various artist collection. It kicks off with Leeds lad and new dad Ste Roberts, who helms his own label for this sort of stuff and so is a master of it. '1998 In London' is just as you would expect from the title - sweaty rave sounds, flashes of acid and strobe lit synths over a booming bassline. Elsewhere Bolam's 'Flabbergaster' is a gritty and grimy cut with neck-snapping hits and dirty bass. On the flip, Yosh goes for a dark setting garage vibe and Inner Zone's 'Higher Dimension' is a nice throwback house pumper.

Review: Irish producer Iglooghost continues to redefine electronic music with a conceptually rich and sonically dense third album. Drawing from the desolate landscapes of a coastal UK town overrun by primordial detritus, the record fuses UK garage, coldwave, drill and more into a visceral, cinematic experience. Created while squatting in a Kent coast garage near a sewage plant, Iglooghost's surroundings heavily influenced the album's dark, aquatic tone. Blending relentless percussion with eerie melodies, the album unfolds like a near-future sci-fi soundtrack. Tracks like 'Germ Chrism' deliver pummeling trap-meets-IDM chaos, while slower cuts like 'Spawn01' evoke the hushed intimacy of early Portishead. Iglooghost's vocals take center stage, ranging from snarling hooks to delicate whispers, imbuing the music with a surreal humanity. Thematically cohesive yet wildly experimental, the album's soundscapes mimic waterlogged radio transmissions, stuffed with textures, rhythms and cinematic interludes. Despite its grim undertones, a cartoonish, surreal charm runs throughout, melding genres and abstract storytelling into relentless, goosebump-inducing club music. This record reaffirms Iglooghost's mastery of world-building and his ability to craft a vivid, otherworldly atmosphere from the interplay of sound and narrative.

Review: The title for West London producer Ikonika's second album Aerotropolis supposedly refers to a city centred around an airport, and was apparently chosen because the album is "about height, getting high and become distant". It supposedly underwent more significant polish than her previous productions and it shows; lead single "Beach Mode" sounds like a classic '80s house track, while "Mr Cake" glimmers with all the sheen of classic US boogie and the shimmering arp of "Eternal Mode" shows hints of disco in its DNA. But Ikonika's connection to the darker strains of UK dance music still shine through; the thick bass and syncopated rhythms of "Manchego" are pure grime while the monolithic "Mega Church" sounds like futuristic, high concept dubstep. Incredible stuff.

Review: Following his debut album Discretizacion in 2018, Mexican fusionist Imaabs delivers his sophomore LP Descifrar. An exploration of postmodern, hyper-digital emotions and fragmented encounters in the modern human experience, the album sees him darting off in multiple directions simultaneously. One moment we're rolling our sleeves up to pounding techno ('Distension'), the next we're swooning dulcet pop bliss ('No Time'), the next we're pushed head first into a bath full of cosmic bubbles and breaks ('Gare Du Nord')... These are just three of the extremities mapped out by Imaabs parameters. A perfect soundtrack for time that concentration spans forgot.

What A Mess
Deep Cut (live edit)
Review: Not content with releasing one album on Planet Mu this year, the excellent Hive Mind, Ital returns to the label with another. While Hive Mind was a patient listen, filled with deep, leftfield grooves and cosmic undertones, Dream On feels like a more urgent, fragmented affair, like listening to a half-remembered night in a club; opener "Despot" combines chopped up vocals and rattling percussion and feels like several different club tracks playing at once, while "Boi" employs hyperkinetic footwork rhythms with searing dub techno textures, and "Enrique" provides an immersive trip into distant industrial rhythms. "What A Mess" perhaps encapsulates the album best; a cluttered mass of indistinct voices, textures and loose rhythms that somehow come together to make a fantastically listenable whole. Highly recommended.

Review: World Series is a new LP length endeavour from Trax Couture which pits four artists closely associated with the label operated by London party types House of Trax - expect a mangled array of house, ballroom, grime and techno. It's undoubtedly their most ambitious release to date and the eight cuts here suggest it will be a most potent series going forwards. HOT main man Rushmore leads the onslaught with two banging productions that highlight his versatility as a producer - "Its Me" is electro flecked ghetto house whilst "Highroad Works" is finger snapping ballroom supremacy. From here, Imaabs, Sylvere, and Dreams all excel too with the high pressure "Sanctuary VIP" a real stand out.
