Phreek - "I'm A Big Freak (R*U*1*2)" (JN Super Phreek Out) (8:38)
Phreek - "Everybody Loves A Good Thing" (JN More Of A Good Thing mix) (12:59)
Review: The latest edition in Joey Negro's ongoing "Remixed With Love" series sees the veteran producer turning his hand to two tracks from the 1978 debut album by Phreek, an all-star studio band helmed by Patrick Adams and Leroy Burgess. Side A boasts a superb revision of "I'm A Big Freak (R*U*1*2)" in which the Z Records boss turns an already wild cut into a synth-laden freak-out of epic proportions (think crazy synth solos, heady party atmosphere and urgent vocals). On the flip you'll find an arguably even better version of "Everybody Loves A Good Thing" that places Leroy Burgess' killer lead vocal right at the heart of the action. Joey Negro's extended mix is very respectful of Adams' original version, but that's no bad thing.
The Sunburst Band - "Garden Of Love" (Dam Swindle remix) (8:19)
Doug Willis - "Forever Douglas" (Doug Be Good 2 U mix) (6:00)
Review: British disco veteran Dave Lee's Z Recordings presents Attack of the Dancefloor Vol.19, featuring some quality disco heat. First up on the A side is Prospect Park with a remake of the Cheryl Lynn classic "Shake It Up Tonight" on which the label chief himself serves up a Disco Reshake, followed by Wipe The Needle who get super lo-slung on the deep disco cut "On Time" (feat Sacha Willamson - WTN 4x4 mix). Over on the flipside, Amsterdam's dynamite duo Dam Swindle get deep down and dirty on a rework of Lee's own classic from way back "Garden Of Love".
Raven Maize - "Forever Together" (Closer To The Source mix)
Pacha - "One Kiss" (Dave's Heavenly Star mix)
Joey Montenegro - "Make A Move On Me" (original Disco mix)
Joey Montenegro - "Can't Get High Without U" (25th Anniversary mix)
Review: Dave Lee's Z Records looks back to go forward as it offers up a spiffing new 12" of contemporary reworks of 4 classics cuts of various vintages from the ZR back cat. Kicking things off in fantastic fashion is a slap bass and wah clav powered take on Raven Maize's 'Forever Together', originally released in1989, this was the first house cut to feature the now iconic keys riff. Dave's Heavenly Star mix of 'One Kiss' (first out in 1991) is pure hip-swinging soulful disco. Joey Montenegro (who could that be?) offers two classic cuts on the flip side. 'Make A Move On Me' (Original Disco mix) sees the crossover hit from 2005 get a Chic like makeover with its zippy leads and timeless diva vocals. Whilst the special 25th Anniversary Mix of 1998's 'Can't Get High Without U' closes things off with some peak time, tension filled, disco house action!

Dave Lee aka Joey Negro has pulled together a fine team of remixers here to serve up their own versions of tunes by him, Jakarta, The Sunburst Band and Prospect Park, all for his own Z Records. Freerange boss and deep house Don Jimspter goes first and brings real sunshine to his take on 'He Is.' Detroit badman Andres then does what he does best to 'I Recognise', that is layering in hip hop slanted beats and nice rolling baselines under lush chords. On the flip are two more positive house vibrations to make this a handy EP.
