Heart Drives The Machine

Celestial Flame (5:28)
Love Not Lost (6:13)
Motor City Man (6:27)
Aurora Lake (5:24)
Review: Elements Electric is a brand new label out of Dublin that kicks off with revered local talent Peter Sweeney who has also worked as Rustal on labels such as 393 Records and Diffuse Reality. His delightful electro, techno and house fusion sound brings plenty of key Detroit references with it and opener 'Celestial Flame' features pitch-bent acid streaks over kinetic drums. 'Love Not Lost' is another one laced with the sound of the 303 and has glistening celestial melodic details over deep drums. 'Motor City Man' is a classic Mid-Western cut with turbocharged drums and future synth soul while 'Aurora Lake' shows a more melodic side with nostalgic synths intertwining with each other over jacked up beats.

Trans Afro Express (remixes)

Trans Afro Express (Gerd Janson dance mix) (6:49)
Trans Afro Express (Gerd Janson dance instrumental mix) (6:49)
Trans Afro Express (Ricardo Villalobos 242 Free remix) (10:35)
Review: The entrancing tribal house groove of Jerome Sydenham, Fatima Njai's and percussionist Mario Punchard's Kraftwerk channeling 'Trans Afro Express' is one of this year's biggest tracks for Rekids, which now receives a series of impressive reworks by the biggest names on the scene. Running Back's Gerd Janson delivers a sunny and blissful rework in his signature neon-lit disco style on the A side of the disc. Over on the flip, it's over to the master of minimalism - none other than Ricardo Villalobos - who takes the track deep into the afterhours with his heady makeover delivered in his idiosyncratic style.

Erdem Yetim - "Perfect Silence" (7:00)
Simone Tavazzi - "Pyramid" (7:55)
Lenny San - "Das Ego" (5:25)
Dave Simon - "Dubby Stomper" (5:44)
Review: Planet Rhythm's third transmission is another various artists' affair that takes no prisoners. This is straight-ahead techno that is proud of its perfect planed linear loops and ability to get you in a mediative head space. Erdem Yetim kicks off with the seriously weighty 'Perfect Silence' and its panel-beaten loops. Simone Tavazzi's 'Pyramid' is another hefty kicker with icy hi hat ringlets and fleshy drums while 'Das Ego' is as good as reductive dub techno gets. Dave Simon hits the nail on the head with his 'Dubby Stomper.'

The Silent Servant
Review: A poignant and triumphant new chapter for the legendary Brum techno icons, hot on the heels of the reissue of their seminal 2010 album Feed Forward and a year of live shows and archival releases. Its creation is rooted in the tragic passing of Juan Mendez, aka Silent Servant, in early 2024. A founding member and visual artist for the group, Mendez's influence resonates throughout the record, with the title End Beginnings serving as a tribute to his enduring legacy. The eight-track album, crafted by Regis and Function alongside collaborators like Rrose, Rivet, Simon Shreeve and Sarah Wreath, embodies a balance of cinematic depth and dancefloor impact. Tracks like 'Dreaming' weave layered rhythms with atmospheric melodies and elastic vocals, while organic elements peek through Sandwell's signature grit. Rrose's contribution to 'Self-Initiate' amplifies this intensity, with low sirens and urgent percussion creating a bubbling, hypnotic effect. 'Hidden,' is a warehouse anthem, drenched in acid-drenched lines and crisp, menacing percussion. Its dark energy and meticulously fine-tuned production signal the collective's evolved direction while honoring the spirit of innovation and rebellion central to their ethos. End Beginnings is more than an album; it's a moving tribute to Mendez and a new start to Sandwell District's enduring commitment to techno as both an art form and a source of joy.

Through The Static
Review: Four years ago, Jon Linksey brought his Sectra project to Tectonic to the first time, serving up an impossible-to-pigeonhole set that combined his love of abstract noise, drone, industrial, techno and warped dancehall. The producer expands on these ideas on Through The Static, his first album to be released on anything other than cassette. In some ways it was designed with the CD format in mind, with the 13 'official tracks' - decidedly dystopian, angular and frequently intense affairs full of mutant rhythms and flashes of genuine musical emotion - being joined by a five-track bonus EP that can apparently be heard "through" the sound of static bolted onto the end of the EP. It's an interesting and unusual idea, but it's the adventurous and experimental qualities of the main album that makes it such a vital listen.

Review: Chicago's mighty Specter stands firm as a pivotal figure among the chosen artists on Theo Parrish's esteemed Sound Signature label. His latest new long player Brutus presents another unique fusion of house sounds. In this cassette tape format, Specter expertly merges synthetic and organic elements that call to mind Parrish's own distinctive style. The album also embodies a seamless blend of timeworn, rustic tones and dynamic, futuristic visions within his singular house realm and impart some devastating feelings through the melodies, while the drums consistently mesmerize and keep you entranced within his rhythms.

Review: Not to be confused with the academic of the same name (who, fittingly, was one of the first to offer intellectual analysis of dance music culture in the 90s), Steve Redhead is a Belgian techno mainstay whose output has always tended towards the muscular, stomping and sonically grandiose. That's exactly what's on offer here, as the long-serving underground techno artist flits between rave-igniting intensity ('Blokhut'), noise-soaked big room slammers ('Sea Choy', with is reverb-laden, eight-bit style melodic refrain and audible nods to Morse Code), Head High style warehouse techno bounciness (the loopy but surprisingly rushing 'Bruusk'), and EBM-influenced, industrial strength analogue heaviness (the excellent title track, 'Eastbrook Isle').
